I used to be a big fan of the Eastside Hockey Manager Series for the PC. It focused on the management side of Hockey and there's great fun in that. The Eastside Hockey Manager series has gone out of business and will not produce any more Hockey Management Sims.

So that leaves us hardcore hockey fans with 2 choices that I know of: NHL 08 & NHL 2K8. From what I saw NHL 08 sees to be focused a lot on gameplay and hasn't mentioned much change in their Dynasty mode. Last year's one was buggy and unplayable. The 2k7 one however was great fun even though the management side was only half realistic.

So there's a market out there for hockey management simulation and if 2k8 can provide Management and Gameplay combined, it would be all that this hardcore hockey fan could crave for. I really like the realistic CBA thing. It's nice to play your club and all but it's even better if you have even more control off the ice. Developing players is a very fun task and I hope they get it right. Keeping your stars is real challenging under the salary cap. My team, the Montreal Canadiens couldn't hold on to Sheldon Souray because he would've wanted 7M to stay in Montreal. There's compelling strategy in hockey management and I hope this year someone can provide us with an up to standards hockey management sim. If 2k8 can provide that along with gameplay all the better!

I also hope that in the future we can also have this sort of roleplaing mode where you create a superstar and lead him from the minors to the NHL and then have the potential to become a star or hall of famer in the NHL. But that's fairly ambitious and I would rather they focus on building the right Gameplay along with the zRIght Management side. I also hope there are very little bothersome bugs and I'm willing to wait a little longer for the right (Bug-Free) game. I will probably be buying all hockey games I could find as I always do. Because I AM CANADIAN!!!!
