The only hope for a hockey game on the Wii is one with no franchise, no season, no create player, no create team, no online and teams consisting of true hockey legends as Mario, Luigi, Bowser and Peace.

2k has stated that sports game dont sell well enough of N game systems so no. They did release the bigs because it is more arcade style that would atract a younger player.

Example:

When I worked a Gamestop in 05 we got 70copies of Madden for PS2 and xbox each and 11 copies of madden for the cube. We sold all of the ps2 and xbox games in that first day, but it took us 2 weeks to sell the 11 cube maddens and thats no joke. I only say this because madden is the biggest selling sports franchise so it gives you an Idea of how little any other sports game would sell on the wii. We have gone through boxes of madden for 360 at best buy and atleast a box for the ps3 but our original stack of wii maddens on our display table has only gone down about half way. EA with tons of money can afford the loss, 2k cant.

Thats kind of illogical isn't it tho? The Wii has so many users that never bought a gamecube, i'm willing to bet at least 50% have not owned a gamecube in their lives. So to not bring the best hockey game to the Wii is highly illogical. I bet you they'd sell more than the other systems, but they'd have to dum down the graphics and use some kind of stick motion on the wii mote, maybe like full 360 stick control while you're standing up or whatever you can pretend you're a defenceman and stuff. Just seems illogical how they'd think they'd sell the same as they would on the gamecube when in fact they'd probably make a killing if they used the wiimote to their advantage it'll sell like hotcakes. I believe EA isn't even making an NHL game for it either. I think its a missed oppurtunity.
