If you are worried more about gameplay, animations, co-op, and online I would get All pro football.
If you are more into features, franchise, graphics, and you must have an NFL team, get madden.

Yep Madden 08 sure lacks in the gameplay department.....
"While some people care more about stuff like the Franchise and Owner modes, this editor is all about heading onto the field for some action between the lines. It’s here where Madden NFL 08 truly shines, as it offers the best action we’ve ever seen in a football game"

Man, most of the people that are reviewing these football games have never played a down of football in their lives. Actually, most of the people playing football games have never played organized football in their lives. They don't know how real football should feel. I hope Madden08 is a lot better than 06 or 07, because those sucked. And if you look at the APF reviews all say that the gameplay is great. Take if from someone who's played, coached, and have been playing console football games for over 25years. APF gameplay is sweet!!!

^^ I play QuarterBack, Tight End, and LineBacker... so I know what football is like from all angles.
I do think APF does capture real football better, but Madden does a solid job too
APF+ in gameplay
Madden+Plus in features
APF+Online
Equal in Graphics
Madden+realism when it comes to catching wide open passes (you miss quite a few in APF)
APF+ realism when it comes to the amount of turnovers

See you are like me. I played fullback, guard, linebacker, and d-tackle my 4yrs of highschool ball. I tried out for LB at the college level, but quit when I got a pretty good paying job. I coached little league football, so I've been around football most of my life. I've been a fan of the game for about 30 years. APF is the most realistic playing football game ever made. I'm not saying it is perfect, but with all of its flaws it still depicts football better than any game before it.

Yeah, its not perfect, but I dont think people should bash Madden because it will be a pretty good game too
Lets just put it this way, Even if APF 2k8 had NFL players, Madden still may get more sales because 70%-75% of "gamers" dont have xbox live and because of the terrible offline season and Madden is probably gonna be great offline
If APF had deep offline modes and NFL players, it would dominate Madden, and APF is doing pretty well, even with the disadvantages they have to overcome.

Oh, I never said Madden wasn't a good game. I've had every Madden game thats been made (granted on whatever console I had at the time), but for people to call APF trash just gets under my skin a little. I like the direction 2K is heading with their game.
Of course Madden would sell more. It's the more established game. It's more mainstream than APF.

I hope Madden is really good this year, because I'm tired of wasting my money. I know a couple of things that they really needed to fix about the game that wasn't fixed. The superman DB and LB's for one. And I would like to be able to throw a pass when the defenders back is turned and not have them make a play on the ball. It's like they have eyes in the back of their heads or some type of psychic power.

Wow, how old are you? You really just come over here just to show a better rating game by a review, wow. I guess i should stop playing APF because that review............Nah, i'm having to much fun playing APF.
Here's the thing, Madden is a good game, and with all it's features overall it is better than APF right now. But everyone knows APF gameplay is better, not perfect but better. Madden gameplay doesn't suck either, it's good, it's fun. But i prefer APF, not because i'm a fanboy because i will play Madden anytime my cousin or anybody offer to play them, but i just like the way APF capture football on-field better than Madden. APF has let down in other departments and that gives Madden the overall edge. So both games is good.
Now you can keep doing the childish thing posting review after review trying to trash, or you can actually talk football/video game football.

August 12th, 2007, 07:25 PM
I would by both, but if I had to choose one I would pick Madden.
2K has more realistic gameplay, but Madden's gameplay is funner because of the user control and balance of sim with over the top action. 2K portrays real football better than EA does , but uts not just as fun as EA's game. You understand me. Madden is just a better deal this year because you get fantasy draft, gamecast, the weapons system, dynamic gameplay, gambling rings, building rings, create a stadium, and new superstar mode all in one year's of work. That would probably explain the high reviews, because I believe reviewers take in account what yearly titles has improven in year's time.
Weapons
I like 2K's system because it differentiates players but at the same time its not that much variety. Since there is no numeric rating most recievers can run at the same speed if they do not have a speed ability. Now Ea's weapon thing is more cosmetic than anything, but it does has some gameplay value. It adds realism when observing your mismatches on the field. The smart weapons are brilliant. This is a way to prevent cheese from online. If someone keeps running the same blitz your QB will catch on and you will be able audible into a different play. I also like what it does to superstar and franchise mode. It actuallt gives your players something to strive for. So say for instance you have Alex Smith, and you decide you want to make him a franchise QB. You then can dedicate your time to train him into being a Smart QB, Cannon Arm QB, or even both. This adds longevity. Now you can actuallty begin scouting your players with the idea in mind of getting a specific weapon. Say you have a strong Qb like Jamarcus Russel, you can now say I want to draft a speed reciever to compliment Russel's Cannon Arm.
Gameplay
It really just depends on what you are looking for here. If you want the most realistic gameplay go with All-Pro. If you want the funnest go with Madden. Beleive it or not the most realistic doesn't always equal the funnest. I find it funner to play defense on Madden than it is to play on All-Pro. I also think its funner to run on Madden. However, All-Pro has an advantage fun wise when it somes to the passing game. The gang tackles in Madden are a bug addition, but All-Pro has been having gang tackles for a while. All-Pro is straight up sime while Madden mixes elements of sim with element of over-the top.
Online
All-Pro excels in this area becuase of its online leagues and lagless games. Ea is still a blast to play online though. You have to option to use the gamecast system which gives you scores of ofther's people games. There is also the new addition of gambling for trophies, which I can already see being a big hit. Just imagine in August you and you friends play a game for a trophy, and you begin doing this weekl, just battling for the trophy. You get more people involved and form just a big online tournament , and whoever wins get pride along with visual proof.
Modes
Madden has better modes because All-Pro only has one offline mode. This year's franchise is similar to last year's with an exception of a few vital elements. Like mentioned earlier you can train you player's into weapons. They have moved the scouting to the beginning of the season. There is now fantasy draft. You can relocate teams. Hire scouting agencies. And put created teams in dynasty. Superstar mode is way better than last year's version because of the improved camera angles and option to import your legend from NCAA.
Heres a list of things that are intruiging about both titles.
All-Pro
online leagues
online tournaments
robust create- a-team
ability system
realistic gameplay
"little things"
great commentary
passing pocket
difference in online games
legends that play like counterpart
Madden
create-a-team

Gameplay is 8.8 versus 8.4, so they're both pretty good, but presentation is 9.2 compared to 5.0 for apf.
Get madden 08, it'll be 10x better than last year, and gametrailers already reviewed it and confirms it.

I played Madden 08 and it still has the same flaws from 06 & 07.
The graphics are great but the players still move funny. It only has one camera view and it still has that stupid pullback screen like the ball has been hiked (the screen pulls back to get you to jump offsides). The tackling still isn't good and the passing game is still the same (funny).
Other than that Madden is a great game the problem is everything I listed above is what I hate about the game.

Again most of the people that rate these games have never played football. I don't need gametrailers, ign, or gamespot to tell me how a football game should play. And I've seen the videos, and from what I've seen the game doesn't look 10 times better. It does however look better than the last couple of years. I hope when I pick up Madden Tuesday that its not the same game.

Well it depends on the person. For me gameplay must be everything because i don't see myself playing Madden now because i love APF gameplay so much. Not saying Madden has bad gameplay, the game has good/fun gameplay. But because the way APF is, i don't wanna play Madden, even with the tons of features. You were trying to imply that the guy who said Madden is a cultural phenomenon had a so called medical condition. I believe you said he was very very ill. I was defending what he said. Do you even read what you're typing.
cultural phenomenon . . . . . ok .

LOL you believe those BS ratings LOL madden will be better this year but just by looking at the vids it has not reached 2K's level gameplay wise. And to me thats the most important thing.
Projected Gamplay ratings
Madden 7
APF 9
APF wins
Buy the way to all you guys here treating his question as anything else but a knock on 2K look at his post again. He is just a Madden Fanboy sheep.

Here is the part from the review you need to see....
"So how does Madden 08 stack up next to All-Pro 2K8? While we believe All-Pro has the better overall gameplay experience and superior in game commentary, the roster handcuffs put on the game combined with its lack of depth in comparison to this years Madden, give EA Sports and Madden 08 a slightly higher score than 2K’s non licensed alternative which we scored an 8.5. Both versions scored lower on the PS3 due to frame rate issues.
If you need the NFL aspect, then the choice is simple, but maybe next year EA will be nice enough to release the exclusive NFL license and let us do this review thing over again in 09 — wouldn’t that be fun?"

Get both.
All Pro Football for the gameplay and Madden for the soundtrack.

madden for the arcade feel good, blow'em out, shoot'em out with one button, zero strategy involved... style game.
APF for the tru football video game experience
yeah... i would say it's a tough call but it really depends on what kind of gamer you are.

is it me or do we buy games to play... hence we need games with great gameplay....
how is this even a decision for a football fan? well... i guess it is if you want to see your fav team jersey's and names on the back of ballers. But.... does looking at that stuff improve a game or make a game better? gameplay is what makes games great not superficial hype.
for the gamer in you... this is not a tough decision at all.

80% of the human population doesn't have an above average IQ. Thats why Madden sells so much. 80% of human's are simply sheep. Take xTheJUICEx for example. If he went to http://www.iqtest.com we'd laugh at his results.
Hitler promoted being a Nazi, almost all of Germany listened. EA promoted Madden, almost all of the sheep listen.

I'm not sure I'll be playing 2K8 anymore. I bumped my head real hard and the doctor said my IQ dropped a bunch, its now below 100. Below 100 IQ is pretty low. Doc said it was even lower than most Madden fans.
He recommended I stop playing a game for smart people like 2K, and stick to Madden because the dumber you are, the more you enjoy Madden. I may have to go buy Madden.

This post isn't getting stupid...it's really funny though. I still love the fun of playing madden (even though ea has broken my heart the last two years), and I have grown to love and appreciate the realness of 2k football. The nfl liscense just keeps calling me (scratching my arms like a fiend) it just keeps calling me. And if only one company has it, I am sad to say that I am at their mercy : (

Actually I found the players on 2K8 pretty stupid....going for it on 4th and 10 on their own 30 yardline? Going for 2 point conversions in the first quarter? Trying the flea flicker every other play?
Yep 2K players are so much more intellegent then Madden players
PS - This "Madden Fanboy" was 4-2 (should have been 4-1 if I wasnt disconnected) online against the elite 2K Fanboys.

No wonder you beat them, they suck if they do that. No one I play does that.. 4th and 6 is easy to stop let alone 4th and long. Why else would people on these forums cry about un-sim players doing that stuff? Real 2K fans dont.
But Madden doesn't even let players attempt 4th downs. That's just sad. I want a game where I have control instead of letting the cpu do it. Why do you think EA doesn't let online games go for it on 4th? Maybe because Madden fans are so stupid they would do it all the time?

They do that to make the online experience more fun. I like it...I hate people going for it on 4th and long,,,,stupid.
Oh and they do let you go for it on 4th down...when the situation is REALISTIC! (LATE IN THE GAME, 4TH AND SHORT ON THE OPPONENTS SIDE OF THE FIELD...ECT)

What about 4th and inches on opponents 35 yardline? You should be able to go for that anytime during the game. Bill Parcells would never punt that, neither would most coaches.
Plus, thats FORCED realism. 2K is real too. If you go for it on your own side of the field, you WILL LOSE. Hence, thats why "the juice" won those games. How is that not realistic? At least give us the choice if we want to go for it.
2K lets us find out the hard way why NFL coaches do what they do, and don't go for it in those situations. Madden forces their thinking upon you.

One think I like about madden is the fair play feature...I am not one to complain or lose sleep about 4th downers but I hate to have to plan my defense on 4 downs instead of 3...Point is, it becomes sort of a challenge to call just the right defense on maybe a 3rd and 3 when you know your opponent will more than likely go for it whether he gets the 3 yards or not...With the fairplay feature I can throw everything i got on that 3rd down play knowing he gets only one chance, makes sense?

I am getting it for wii. 22 mini-games, superstar mode, Philadelphia Eagles, and Motion sensor controls.
If I would get it for a true next gen it be ps3 because I think my 360 is about to kick it again. And since it has framerate issues I wont go there. Plus if it plays like NCAA 08(360,PS3 versions) I don't even wanna touch it.

I know it does but my 360 has been freezing again. 2nd system got it new. So i don't want to get it for that plus All the cheaters/cheesers I have met playing the previous maddens I don't Want To experience again. SO I am getting it for Wii. Because I won't be angry At spending 60 bucks for a crappy rehash of NCAA 08 with NFL teams.

Okay okay.. you guys won me over..
I agree EA's football is better. Simply because, instead of letting their game compete against other NFL games to show how much better they are, they wanted to run them all out of business so they just compete with themselves.
Plus.. Any company like EA, which doesn't let reviews come out prior to the release date unless they're a 9 or above, you can trust them.

Madden Sucks Yes. But I love superstar Mode because its friggin addicting. Unlike the PS3 and 360 version, on the wii version you have TO earn your spot on the Depth Chart. I hated how I was always a starter on the next gen when 2 guys have a better rating over you. but the wii I would be 3rd on the depth chart and my play made me move up.

I'm getting my madden tomorrow ;) Only then will I be able to tell you if it's good or not.
So far anyone's who played it says it's great.
APF 2k8 isn't worth $60, so it's not even going to be close to competing with madden at the same price. They should lower the price to at most $40, maybe less.
There's only 2 game modes in apf basically, and for me personally it doesn't appeal to me playing with old superstars on a team, I like the real NFL (EA has the license now though), but when they're both $60, madden is a much, much, much better value, it's a very deep game and you'll definitely get a lot more out of it with all the game modes, gameplay isn't a concern because we all know that's improved now, madden is a better game because it's deeper, if apf dropped the price it would be a nice game to own, but $60 for apf and madden it's a no brainer.

Yeah I am looking forward to superstar mode...it is most likely the BEST/ONLY thing they have done right in the last 6 years.
Is it worth 60 bucks? Hell no...but my girlfriend is buying it for me....so its all good.
