View Full Version : Nothing but generic OL on your team?

I've noticed that many people don't even bother with getting a tier player on their line. I always use a Silver Offensive Guard and at least a Bronze Tackle for my O-line...am I just wasting picks with that?

Yes, I have a generic line with Emmit Smith and do fine.

I have a balanced generic offensive line and Marino at QB. I'm good at the pre-snap read so I know where I'm throwing the ball and I get rid of it quickly. As far as running, Natrone Means handless his between the tackles.

I dont use any O-line man with Okoye and I get 100 yards a game usually

Well...I guess I should try that, I usually get 2 star OLinemen, now I think I'll get more players I really want.

Well i use a QB than scrambles Dave Krieg, and i don't hold the ball long so the balance O-line with no Legends is fine to me.
I will create a team someday that has O-line players and see is there a difference.

You're only wasting picks if you don't run and offense that makes use of them.

That's basically the jist of it. With Marino even more so. He gets the ball out wicked fast so it's not that important. If you are in a quick read offense (wco) you don't need good lineman. A center at the most.

If you are a drop back passer throwing bombs, you want tackles, and need protection.
Generics won't cut it against a real defense.

When I see someone that only has Generics, I bring a lot of heat on them.
When I see they have legends, I have to be more selective and use complex coverages.

The lineman DO make a difference

I use Guy Mcintyre as a bronze lineman, but anymore than that is too much..

But you really have to keep trying combonations to figure out what team is best for you...

Ive seen people that play well with 2 gold offensive players, 2 gold defenive players, 1 offense 1 defense, and all the combos in silver and bronze.

I make it a point to run behind my Silver O Guard and Tackle a lot...I call plays that have the O Guard roll out on sweeps and pitches, but sometimes it doesn't matter since my WR or other players miss key blocks...

With Generics, then also sometimes your guard and tackle will miss blocks too. ;)

geners str8 up can suck on the OL.... but so can stars.... best thing to do is move that QB around with hopes you can get an OL guy to catch up and block that dude they cut loose. Or look for that quick option and get the ball out.

the reason people do so good is because they set their blockers to runblockers.. which is probably around an 80 or so average at run blocking.. (just a guess) so if you have a gold rb you could have a good running game

the con.. pass blocking. their pass blocking is most likely very weak.. ;)

one thing ive learned about this game.. there's always a hole some where.. the question is can (we) you find it.

I played a season with generic balanced OL and noticed a huge difference from a passing standpoint. My running was sporadic depending on how good the CPU team D was but mostly i was successful. However, the passing is extremely tough, i have literally no time to throw, especially vs gold tier linemen. Even vs mediocre defenses i still average 4-8 sacks and my ints and comp % have plummeted.
I guess it's a compromise, i wanted to stop the run so i gave up OL for DL and i am now stuffing the run better. I probably need to run shorter routes for Marino though because if he doesn't have time then the longer routes are pointless.
