I have spent the last 4 months designing a hockey video game. I was going to do lacrosse du to uniqueness but I love hockey to much and don't know much about lacrosse. Now, my question, I sent my stuff to Microsoft studios as for my developer they accepted it and wanted to pay up front, I won't do that, I want to get royalties. So I sent it to Ubi-soft, they have never done a sports game, and didn't want to start off with Hockey, but realize that Basketball already has three vid games and can't do NFL because of EA, so acceptance yet again. I told Microsoft studios that Ubi-soft wanted it and would pay me royalties and give me a contract. Microsoft then changed their mind. Which developer should I go with?

You could try Konami, they did do Blades of Steel way way back when. Could also try Rockstar, they made that table tennis game which turned out to be pretty good actually.

you should just go indy or try sony there system from what i hear is easyer to get your game out there, if its as good as you think it is try getting some play on the gamming web sites like 1up and gamespot i think there easyer to get some play then ign. also i don't think sony making hockey games anymore so if you bring something new to the table that gets some buzz who knows sony itself might sweep you up. i myself want to make a new hockey game but not like ea or 2k i want to bring something new to sports games, but all i have are idea's and not the money or skill to make my idea come to light. maybe the lotto will help me out someday.

THis game probably won't come out till next year or 2010. But I have put in a superstar mode like in Madden. THe franchise mode will be outstanding. You can lift weights manually, exercises like, shoulder press, squats, bench press and bicep curls, or you can just schedule it and sim through it. Depending on what you want your team to be like is how much you lift with your players and how often and how many reps and sets. Also hang cleans are an exercise. If you want your team to be fast, you do light weight exercises. If you want them to have complete and total power then you do heavy lifting. Depending on the player you can do heavy lifting and still be very fast.
There are also very many skills and drills for making your stickwork, shooting, skating, and checking better. As in NBA 2k games, there is a street hockey mode that has kind of differant rules, and you are on an asphault you have rollerblades and a hockey ball as the puck. You go through differant citys like Toronto or Vancouver, Detroit and Philidelphia and more. But you get points and buy clothing differant hockey sticks. It didn't take much time to do this so its just one more game mode that isn't my major thing.
I will have more later.

Stay away from the gimmicks. They are ok but it all comes down to gameplay. You could have 2000 mini games for training but if the gameplay is crap then it's not worth it.

tour cities? what is this the hockey style 'and 1' crew? what was that game for the 16 bit systems where the roller hockey players had green spiked hair and would beat the other team mercilessly like pig skin football. no wonder M$ dropped your contract.
Not to bash you but that weight lifting thing is so lame. Just make the sim to travel to mexico to pickup illegal steroids, now thats fun:D
Stick to ice hockey and not afro-totting street ball

You are programming it yourself? I would take more than 10 years to do a 3d hockey game if you are in a team less than 10. In team you have software engineers, computer science students, physics engineers and more. Ubisoft would not accept to publish the game. What would they gain?

Trust me I am working on the gameplay more than anything I was just adding all the training stuff for fun like I said you can sim through the training. Lots of people like to train in the game as if they were there doing it themselves. I just need lots of things that are differant from EA and 2K that will sell money and make myself happy.

To all those who think I am making the graphics. No. You don't have to make a demo of a game for them to look at it. Now you do have to draw and write everything to the last wire and then do something to it on the computer but other than that they will look at your stuff anyway and if you have a patent pending then they might want to use your game idea.

A game designer does the analyssis and conception of the program (game). He creates the domain model and design model. His disgn model contains all the classes, variables in methods contained in the game (makes it easier for the programmers since they dont have to think about the algorithm). Then he gives them to the developers and they program it. If a developer thinks he has a better solution for a part of the program (algorithm), he talks to the designers (game designers not graphics designers). There are multiple iterations and the designers and programmers(developpers) are constantly in contact.
Ubisoft will have to hire you as a game designer with other designers and hire 40+ other people to work on the game. Plus they would have to pay for the liscense. To be a game designer , you have to have atleast 5 years of experience as a developper and most prefer a masters in sotware engineering. If ubisoft wanted to do a hockey game they would have done it a long time ago. Why would they release a hockey game? They wont compete with EA nor 2k!
So seriously dont write some bs here. Atleast type something that makes sense. "THis game probably won't come out till next year or 2010" . NO way it can take a year or two. This is their first game, they have never done a sports game, it will take 2-3 years to create an engine for hockey.
"I have spent the last 4 months designing a hockey video game". 4 months alone designing a hockey game? You think they will accept something from someone who has only been designing a game for 4 months?
Go read some Graig Larman software design books!

Okay sorry. Me and about six other people have been designing this game for four months and yes I do have a degree and have designed small games before at my college. And what the hell would you know about what they have told ME. I already said that they accepted me its a matter of my choice on who to go with. So don't say **** on crap that you don't know what your talking about. I was merely asking what developer to go with, you had to make it into an argument. Youre still cool cause your on the hockey forums but come on man don't give me **** unless youre the one who talked to them about me and my game.

No. You got it out of me, I'm just kidding to all don't dislike me because I did this I was just seeing of all the crap you have to go through just to send an idea. I wouldn't know the first thing about anything. Thinks gobash for bringing my mind back down to reality. I didn't know you had to go through and have a degree. Regardless my last post is still true in the point that you can't say crap about what they did to me unless you actually had a conversation about me.
