1) diving headfirst by defenders is too efective- tone it down a notch! everybody just dives in from of their goal- and it works 99% of the time!
2) please fix- defenders in offensive zone- make sure they cross the line when offense has puck- nothing worse than passing back to defender and he is not in the zone- it never happends in real hockey!
please fix- and the game will continue to dominate the xbox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:) I agree, diving from behind and knocking the puck off an opponents stick, is way too easy. In the NHL, that usually results in a penalty, because you end up knocking the player down instead.

Since this is essentially a less thorough breakdown of AI, I'm opted to cut and paste my post from the Idea's/Suggestions board that I believe need to be at least looked at for 2k5.
1. If I see any of my teammates skating next to the puck, not even attempting to get it in 2005 my heart will honestly explode from their pure stupidity and utter lack of care for the object that they should wholly be caring for.
2. I can't even list the number of times my AI teammates have just skated over the puck to allow the other team a nice odd man rush, or allow them to keep it in the zone. It also happens constantly from Icings for both sides and for controlled players, though players can make sure they don't by slowing down and making sure their stick is right in front of them. It still happens way too often, and makes me crazy.
3. When a left handed player is on the right boards and the puck comes around, if you try to one time the puck you'll completely whiff on the puck and thanks to your defensemen that never hold the zone(we'll get to that next) the puck is nearly ice'd but usually registers as you've touched it even though you completely missed it and didn't change velocity or direction of it in any way.
4. Defensemen that almost never hold the zone. In fact, it've really seen that they're almost not programmed at all to be offensive, save for the very rare walk in that they do if you bring a forward out to point with the puck.
5. Offensemen being almost completely offensive. Yes, I know they're called offensemen but I expect wingers to try and get the puck if it's in the middle of the zone on the boards. Same with centers, though they seem to be a bit better at being defensive than wingers.
6. Defensemen that don't just let players skate into the zone unphased. This usually applies more with teammate defensemen than it does with the opposing AI. I just wish I didn't have to do almost all the work for defensemen.
7. My teammates changing lines but completely ignoring the puck if they're a foot away. They also change at the worst possible times, sure I could fix that with manual line changes but I'd really rather not have more to worry about, as well as only being able to estimate how tired my lines are(maybe we could have a tiny bar near the scoreboard telling how tired they are?).
8. AI sticky sticks. This one doesn't need much explaining, most people understand what happens when you just skate next to the AI, they'll take away the puck and pass it before you can even react to what's happened. It's not fun because you can pretty much skate over AI sticks while they have the puck and the they'll pretty much never lose it. Usually takes a check to any player unless they're a 3rd or 4th liner, then once and a while you'll be able to take it without a check(Pokechecking usually puts you way out of position).
9. This is my last one, and it's about the neutral zone insanely fast consecutive passes the AI does while they try to get 'an open spot to attack' so they can carry in the puck. Now I understand a few passes, but when they AI throws around about 10 passes while they're in the neutral zone it's a little much. Very, very rarely they'll dump it but it's always a cross ice dump to the winger on the other side but happens only a few times per game.

i have to agree thats one thing that drives us crazy is the defenders sit OUTSIDE the blue line in the offensive zone...no hockey I ever have seen on tv or in person where the Dmen sit outside the blue line...you cant stop the puck from going out of the zone this way!!!

:) Thank you for your keen eyesight. I didn't realize it was the result of bad collision detection.

:) Not at all. You spotted something that nobody else did. I'd say, hire the man as a beta tester.

The developers have stated that stick collision detection is very difficult. Hopefully they have found ways to fix this issue. Time will tell.

Yeah, I see where you are coming from. It's such a small object, the shaft at least, so it would be hard to make crash points all over it ...
I have 0 knowledge on anything involving making games, so I don't know if crash points is the right word choice, but it sounded good. ;)
And I wouldn't mind testing out a great NHL game... ;)

:) ESPN videogames were looking for beta tester before. A beta tester has to have a keen eye and be able to write down problems in short form. You also need to be a decent gamer, since you need to test the game out from beginning to end. Washington, California and Texas are some of the main states that do beta testing. You seem to have the first requirement down pat, so why not give it a shot? Could be the start of a video gaming career!

:) I believe Massachusetts is the other state. That would be the closest location from your home state. Unfortunately, it would take a move.
