Too many of you are chronic complainers and sore losers; the reason I'm an offline player. It's an opponent's freedom to go for it every fourth-down attempt, run the ball straight up the gut every down, or pass the ball every down. These are play styles--not exploitations or cheating! Is your opponent throwing the ball to their go-to receiver every down? Then double team him! Football is a game of strategy. It's not pretty. But, it's their decision to make, not yours!
In the NFL, there's no plug to pull or Start button to pause the game. There are rules to be obeyed; you must accept defeat--even the best lose. It's a part of the game; a 60-minute battle. When that clock winds down to 0:00 in the fourth quarter, you show sportsmanship.
Being Dreamcasts' #1 NFL 2K player in the world, with an illustrious, legit record of 64-0-0 (And I would've kept the streak alive too, had my Dreamcast not burned out.), too many times when I was slaughtering an opponent, they just pulled the plug, or paused the game for hours until one of us powered off the console. My nickname is Da Blanket, because I suffocate opposing offenses. The leaderboards are always doctored by con artists. People's time is valuable; either play the game right, or don't play the game.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! You're our 100th self proclaimed #1 rated NFL 2k player. BTW playing strictly offline doesn't subject you to the 30 play Earl users who couldn't throw a pass for the life of them. Maybe you'd change your tune if you ran into some of the lame *** play styles you find out there. I'm sure you'd stop Earl on 4th and 1-2 on his 12 yard line every time. Owning a Dreamcast seems to be your only saving grace.

I typically agree with Gamefather but in this case I must disagree. I don't play online anymore for several reasons. One being that I like to play sim, as in at least somewhat balanced offensive attacks and such. With this new Legend/star player mechanic it often times doesn't matter if you double team a reciever or prepare in other ways because the star players on offense perform like cyborg arcade players.....especially the Gold running backs. It's obvious after perusing not only this forum but the OS and Sports Gamer forums as well that there are a ton of players playing extremely unrealistic styles by exploiting the Legend mechanic. Yes, i'm sure there are also a ton of straight up sore losers who pull the "cheese" card to justify their losses also.

You aren't takin' anyone down if you're only an offline player. You're speaking of something you have no knowledge of whatsoever if your most recent experience online is Dreamcast...

Can I ask a question? And keep in mind you have a right to post whatever you like as long as it meets 2ksports forum guidelines.
You start out with a great post. Honestly.
You make good points about a players choice of play and style.
Then you really screw it up with the SELF PROCLAIMED KING OF 2K FOOTBALL!!!
I'm being serious and not bashing you.
Once you step into that statement you toss yourself right in with the crowd you are complaining about.
Everyone on this board is NFL 2ksports #1.
When you tag stuff like that you really lose support for your post because it now appears you are just looking to brag about yourself.
Two different subjects that should not appear in the same post.

I don't pull the cheese card when i lose, or when I winI have rarely given bad feed back unless they truly glitched. If you want to run HB iso all day and swing passes fine i will stop it. If you want to run flea's 3 times a drive i will stop it or lose trying. IF he is verbally abusive i turn off my headset. See there truly is a counter for everything. I play to have fun sim games. If i get hosed into playing a glitcher i'll be mad but i will play. If i get someone who plays "cheese" fine you play your game and i'll play mine. I may not win but at least i will try.

Now this is post of the day for me so far.
I agree 100%
I think people are still klinging on to the 2k5 era.
This is a new game with fixed AI and functions in place.
If I can't stop a play or style in 2k8 I will blame myself first until I know otherwise.

You are right in saying that people can use whatever style they want.
I still stick to the belief that as long as it doesn't disrupt the integrity of the game, it is legit. That means that you can go for it on 4th if you wish, you can run 90 times a game if you wish, you can sub players into strange positions (that is what the matchup screen is for), etc etc. As long as there is a counter, I don't really mind. It might not make for the most enjoyable game, but to each his own. I'm sure some NFL games are not very enjoyable for one team because of what the other is doing.
As for proclaiming to be the #1 player on a game that was made 9 years ago ... congrats. Every day I read another person claiming to be the top dog some number of years ago. Quit living in the past. It is no longer 1999 and not everyone can be #1.

But things haven't changed since then.
Sure they have.
Back then the whining and crying was for valid reasons and most agreed.
With the fixes in place the whining and crying is not as valid and most people are not jumping onboard with it.
I dropped the 2k5 cheese stuff from my vocabulary.
This is 2k8 and most of the stuff has been addressed.
I can live with those that drop. I never cared about rankings, because 2k football is not my life.
Will some people still whine and cry? Sure they will.
But it is beginning to be understood that they do not have the same basis making the same complaints in 2k8 that they had with 2k5 because the game is much better.
Example...
How can someone complain about running with the QB when the game provides a functioning qb spy feature? The whining worked for 2k5, but it will not hold water in 2k8.
The same with other past issues.

That is just another reason why APF is crap. On madden they have the fair play setting which makes the game play as if it were a real game meaning you cant go for it on 4th down unless its inside 2min of the half or game or if the yds needed for a first is 1yd or less. That way the game plays more like pro games do. There are also hardcore servers where that feature is off.
Madden knows how to accomodate everyone so every player can enjoy the online experience. Drop that crap pretend football game and play a real game.

My god this man is a mind reader. Thank you for posting something other than "if you dont like it, go play madden" for a change of pace on this board. I agree completely in what you have said.
2k5 was a true football sim, this game is arcade football with 2k presentation and controls.

I remember way back when, I challenged the so-called #1 NFL 2K player; he declined all of my challenges. Know why? Because he didn't have game! And word was I'm the real deal. So finally, after some trash talkin', he committed. The game wasn't going his way; I had 2 interceptions in the first half; the second half was more of the same. And then it happens with 2 seconds remaining and me in command 74-3--he pulls the plug; I don't get my win. I have much better things to do than play scrubs.

The answer is so simple. Quit playing these guys. There's so much information at hand that will help you from playing them. If you're looking for fun games without a real care for rank, you will have a blast. Playing people with low feedback, lots of drops and/or quits with an orange or red face will lead to these problems. They give you a lot of information to keep you from running into these people. Use them, or play the cheesers, but don't cry about it. I've played nearily 50 games online and have yet to run into a bad player or sore loser.
