View Full Version : An unorthodox strategy , sim or cheese? (onside kick)

I am going to do this regardless of your opinions, I just want to gauge how much bad reputation I am going to get for it online. I think it's sim because I've seen it done before.

I am going to create an offensive team, all offense + 1 Silver Kicker and Steve Tasker (good blocker and special teams demon WR)
Probably making this a historic first in team creation :rotfl:
My defense will be entirely generic, completely pass oriented.
Which I think we know, will lead to very high scoring contests.

I've made the determination that with a generic defense, Field position is irrelevant.
If they are at the 20-35-50 , it's not going to matter.
With my Kicker I can contain them to touchbacks all day if I wanted.
But it doesn't matter.

So instead of just giving the ball back , why not go for onside kicks?
I have a special teams demon to chase them down, I have a Silver Kicker to increase my chances of successful onside kicks. If I fail, I have a short field behind me which actually protects my crappy safeties from the deep bomb. I also get the ball back faster.

To cite an analogy.
If it's 4th and 1, and a 55 yard field goal with a generic kicker. You go for it.
Same thinking, I can't stop anyone with a generic defense, but I might be able to play keep away with onside kicks.

Sadly, that logic works. :P

I'm almost inclined to tell you to pick up a DT though. The reason is that he can work on your onside kick squad, and he has a chance of slowing down the scoring on the other side.

(WHY AM I HELPING YOU???)

The only thing that is definite cheese is doing onside kicks the entire game.

If it's 4th and 1, and a 55 yard field goal with a generic kicker. You go for it.

If it's 4th and 1 from the 38 and you have a generic kicker... you punt.

55 yard FG with Generic kicker you can make it..

I've hit a 53 yarder with a generic, so why not give a 55 yarder a shot?

Anyhow, I actually played a guy online with a completely generic D and everyone on offense just the other day. His D was actually surprisingly stout and while I scored pretty much every time (except for the interception), I didn't score quickly.

His offense, on the other hand, could have been a nightmare if he knew what he was doing. Fortunately, he was very predictable and fairly easily contained.

There should be something in the game that penalizes you even more for missing constant onside attempts like for example, your defense gets a drop in skills for being discouraged by the failed attempt. A sort of MOMENTUM METER if you will.

Nina Sky, those are some good looking gals.

It's funny because just recently my cousin hung out with one of them a couple weeks ago at Cameo's (SoBe). According to him, they look just as good in person.

sounds annoying as the previous person said, but hey its a strategy and if it works all the more power to you, but alas probably more unfavourable rankings from players will prob come your way. It could be a good strategy, but if i was playing you, (why am i telling you this) , i would clock control you by running the ball constantly against your vanilla D. If my run was consistent, it would be even harder for you if your down by 7 to onside kick and not get it. Cause then that team would just pick up 5-10 yards at a time on the run and keep your offense on the sideline . . .

I don't think it's cheesy, but I don't think it's a good strategy.

I'd run for 4 yards every carry on your and run down the clock. Stop you once, and end with a low scoring game.

That's exactly my point. If you stop me once I lose.
But if I get an onside kick or 2, I win or it's down to the last possession (and I got 4th quarter comeback ;) )

Dont think its a good strategy, unless you master the onside kick. If I ever played you, Id run the ball every down, run the clock out. Your O would only get 3-4 possessions. No matter how many O players you get, they can always be stopped. Generic d on the other hand, no way I won't score every time on them. But, if you master the onside kick, you'll be great. Very annoying, but I wouldn't give you bad feedback. 2k players in general are whiners who can't play D, so you'll get a TON of bad feedback if you do this. Ban lists, I hate (player name here) tshirts, everything you can imagine will occur if you do this.

Please, You know your gonna get tons of negative feedback and get called a cheeser for attempting that stragety. With all the "Im the #1 sim player in the world" people, actual cheesers, and just plan sore losers out there, it's gonna happen.

Definitely not what I call "cheese," but you are straying away from real football and making this more of a purely strategy game. Most people don't like that. They like it to be like real football. You will probably get a lot of negatives.

The onside kicking is crap, but it is your strategy so go for it. I have an all defensive team + Okoye. My only offensive play is run up the middle. Sometimes I throw deep on 3rd Down with the hopes that it gets intercepted...cause my punter sucks lol

You wont get good feedback because of it, but I think its an excellent idea and strategy.
