haha wow you are stupid...compairing oj to kobe. this guy isnt even good enough to be kobe's waterboy. yes i live in texas but i write for espn in fact my department is high school sports i been following oj since he was a 6 foot 3 8th grader the kid is good but to call him the best player in the nba in 7 years is giving him way too much credit for one lbj will still be in the nba in seven years and he will have about 3-4 nba championships by then. bottom line compairing a kid who has only proven him self good amoung high school players to kobe is IGNORANT.

This guy is right... O.J. really isn't as special as he is hyped to be. Don't get me wrong, he is clearly a great high school player, but he is really not even on the same level as some of the other guards in his very own class. He is a little bit of a tweener. Is he a pg or a sg? Let's say he is a point. Is he as good as Derrick Rose? Not a chance. Rose has much greater court vision than O.J. who has pretty solid court vision himself but not at the level of Rose. He doesn't have the speed, quickness or first step of Rose. Derrick Rose is a more athletic version of Jason Kidd. That is a scary thought. Now on O.J.'s side, he does have a better shot, but that can only do you so much if you are asking him to lead a TEAM as a point guard. Ok, so he can shoot better. Maybe he is a shooting guard. He is not the shooter that Eric Gordon is. I would argue he can't even penetrate as well as Gordon. Godron has a much stronger built and a very quick first step. Now O.J. has more point guard skills, but as far as being a shooting guard, I have to give it to Eric Gordon.

Kevin Love is not overrated. He was easily the most dominant big man in high school basketball last year. I do not think he will be a great pro because he is a little slow and small for the center position. But I definitely seeing him as a strong role player in the league for many years.

First off all the favorites have to be the celtics moron then the heat because dwyane wade can lead his team. LBJ23 in 7years wont be the best player in the league hes just to incomplete of a player when he learns how to shoot the 16ft jumper and developes a post game then come talk to me

At my work my bracket has always been in the top 3 the past 4 years ive won the darn thing 2 out of those 4 years and my espn bracket is always way on the bottom. Trust me I know more about basketball and talent than u do. Ive probably in person seen about 20 oj mayo games and 10 lbj games in high school and oj mayo so far has a better high school career then LBJ23 if u dont believe me go to high school records of ohio and dont say no because thats being ignorant. OJ if he would have played his senior year in high school would have been #1 in ohio is most points in career and would have surprise greats like LBJ23 and John Havolic greats like those Ohio has always had a history of bringin in the NBA Best and i won't talk anymore the season is going to being in what 2-3 months ill let mayo games do the talking ill remember u

It should be at least 84-88
Oden's was 88, and O.J. has superior ball skills. Durants should have been at least 82, but no one knew he would be as good as he was his freshman year. O.J. was ranked higher than Durant overall during the 05 and 06 seasons.
Derrick Rose
82-86
Eric Gordon
84-87
Kevin Love
82
Kyle Singler

As for Mayo i don't know much but i will say in low 80's since that what most good players are rated in their first year.

Beasely is not a 90, 84-87. Mayo On the Ball skills are higher than Beasley's, and has more clutch ability. Beasley is bigger and a superior athlete with potential, but O.J.'s game is more NBA ready than Beasly's right now.
O.J. hit Beasley's team for 43 in the 06 season. O.J. deserveds all the hype that he has. He is not Lebron, but he is exceptional.

He is good, but I wonder if he will have the grades to play. He isn't one of the smartest kids and I would put money on him getting help in classes or even having people do his homework cause he had to sit out the first couple of games his senior year in the playoffs cause he wasn't eligible to play. Makes u wonder why he picked USC.
Man-o-Vertigo
September 24th, 2007, 07:06 AM
he picked usc because of the city. i wouldn't rate him in the 90's, they didn't rate Durant or Oden in the 90s, so i would guess mid 80's. i believe him, Eric Gordon, and derrick rose (my two favs) will be rated in the mid to low 80's(eric and oj) and high 70's(rose, i think he's better than that. but he relies on his athleticism too much as of now). rose will have the higher potential of the 3.
dont know much about the other freshmens, I've watched rose play for a couple of years, and gordon also.

i think they only put freshman over 80's overall if they strongly think they will go pro (i.e. Durant and Oden). Only reason why Mayo will be rated in the 80's is if everyone thinks he will go pro. Other than that i really don't see why they would give me a mid 80 if he wasn't going to go pro

they were rated low they had never played a college, and overall ratings are meaningless...durant could dunk over any1 on the game, and oden defense awarness and shot block were crazy, i had a sg on drexel with 58 overall rating but had 80 mid and 85 3, and i dropped 20plus every game with him.

im not gonna comment on low rated people being effective because i agree with you for the most part. i had a 68 overall guy with almost 90 in 3 point shots, so i feel ya there. but i still do not agree with the no freshman should be rated over 79. thats like saying that no one that comes outa highschool to the pros should be rated over 79(before the new rule that is). now it isnt everyday that we see a durant, carmelo anthony, or greg oden. someone who dominates in their freshman year, but it does happen. so in order to represent this, give them the ratings they deserve. and i feel that oden was rated lower than he should have been. like i said in my earlier post, just make it a rare occurrence.

I don't think so, because now you don't have high schoolers going straight to the NBA anymore, so you're going to get some players that are MADE to play in the NBA, and can pretty much crush the college talent ala Kevin Durant. So I would assume that some players will be rated in the 80's and early 90's from now on.

It may have already been said, I haven't read the entire thread, but in 2K7 Greg Oden was an 87, which I felt was high for a freshman. I've always felt freshman need to prove themselves before earning a rating like that. With that said, Kevin Durant was a 79. I thought that was fair.

I'm with you guys, of course. Freshmen shouldn't be in the 80s, let alone the 90s. If I ever saw a true freshman in the 90s, I'd quit. If that were the case, there's no room for growth.
I know as a young coach in LM, with a team that mustered maybe 13 wins, and that's a good season, a recruit in the mid-70s is awesome. Making freshmen so talented would make the game worse, I think. Of course, that's my opinion.

I think 73-74. I do not know why people make a big deal about him. He's alright, but he is not all that. You people are putting him as good as Kobe, best player in NBA, etc. and he hasn't played one game of college.

have you seen the kid play? or seen him is stats? id have to say hes that good. up until last year (and still now in a few rankings) he was ranked as the top player in his class, and one of the top five in ANY class since 6th grade. now i dont like him, i think hes selfish and a punk and i dont think hes gonna work well in the college game at all cause you actually need TEAMwork. that being said the media loves him and hes gonna be an amazing NBA player. so he'll be ranked really high.

I'm just not ready to hop on mayo, gordon or rose bandwagon. every year ppl blow up ppl to make them seem like the next just jordan and it never turns out that way. For every kobe, lebron, melo and durant there are another 100 superstar prospect that ppl forget never make it. I still remember djuan wagner dropping 100pts in highschool and ppl annoiting him the new basketball "jesus"

i think this **** is hilarious how in the hell can you take his HIGH SCHOOL stats and think that they matter? ITS HIGH SCHOOL think about it I hope all of us went to HIGH SCHOOL your talking about this guy playing average ballers yes i know not all the time but tis not like hes playing people his caliber night after night. When he gets to college hes gonna be playing seasoned players that have been playing college ball for 3-4 years that are BETTER than him.
Hes gonna have guys guarding him that are at his skill level a hell of alot more than in HIGH SCHOOL.So go look at USC schedule and see who they play and then you see whos gonna be guarding him and we will see how he does. OOOOO and hes playing college zones your not gonna find tougher defenses to beat than in college.
ne ways hes not all that gth over it stoping acting like hes the next great thing untill he is.
