View Full Version : Why all the hatred

I have been checking out a lot of forums talking about both EA's and 2K hockey and what I am seeing is that a good majority are torn or those who are loyal to a certain brand are taking pot shots at the other brand.
I think in the end, we all want someone to step up and make a game we all can agree with. We all seem to want realism, little to no glitches and overall enjoyment.
It's great to see such a love for hockey, especially with a sport that really may never be what it used to be, but here we are pushing for a true hockey game.
It is obvious that both EA and 2K have made strides this year but we all continue to wait till September 11th to rip open our games and try them out. Regardles of the strides someone is not going to be happy and will threaten to change to other side next year or give up all together...but like Madden fans, we all come back because we all love hockey.
So let's give constructive criticism to 2K or EA if that's your choice and tell them what we don't like and do like so they can get better.
I just want hockey!

That would be nice but fanboys like to get on sites and talk smack just to stir things up.They like the drama and it apparently makes them feel good about thier purchase.I personally love both games this year, but 2K8 will be my first choice for it's depth and overall smoother gameplay.

There are no glitches in 2k7. Only lack of defense, where people take their defensemen out of the plays and stop protecting the post that they're in the game of hockey to protect, which provides a perfect skating lane, which provides a perfect mathmatical angle to the net, which is usually taken at point blank range since the defender isn't there anymore.
If you give 47 1-on-1 situations a game - you're going to see 8+ goals.
Well ok, there actually is 3 real glitches: I've only seen it twice, and I've played almost 700 games, but twice I've seen a goalie get stuck behind the net when he goes to get a puck. The second is, there's a wrap-around glitch that happens once in a blue moon where when they go to do the wrap-around, they become uncheckable. I'll even wait for them behind the net with CHARA from the Bruins, the hardest hitter in the game, and I'll hit check, and the skater literally skates through him. Like the game never reads that there's even a body there or a check happening. The third is that sometimes when people take manual line changes, the game will have weird face-off ******** where the ref drops the puck when no one's at the line yet. But again, that happens only once in a blue moon.
What people keep calling "glitches", and "glitch goals", etc, is actually a complete lack of defense.
If you're playing All-Pro Football 2k8 for example, and you take the guy that's supposed to be covering Jerry Rice, and you run away from the play onto the opposite side of the field when the ball snaps - what do you think is going to happen? If you do that 23 times a game, Rice is going to catch bombs for touchdowns about 20 of them.
It's the same with NHL 2k7. If you take the defender that's supposed to guard the post, and you skate him out of position 47 times a game, the other guy is going to score on you in that same corner at least 8.
It's that simple.

no glitchs your right lol.... players really do play a whole game after they break a leg.. Goalies skate to the other end of the ice for no reason... you can score the same goal against goalies evert time.... You are allowed to cross chek people that dont have the puck miles away from the play.... So I really hope they dont change that stuff cause that really does happen and if you dont think it does your wrong cause 2k would not have the same glitches year after year that would be crazy they have game testers that make sure the things that really happen happen so dont worry this game wont change a bit.

AJ try playing in Sim Lobby then. the goalies play alot better an penalties are actually called more frequently. All the cheesers play in Advanced Lobby because it plays like an arcade game an is easy to do cheese goals as it plays fast there. Only prob is the cheesers won't play in Sim Lobby because they can't use there cheese an actually have to play hockey instead of who can beat who done the ice in advance lobby.

well first off injuries dont happen online so it doesnt matter what lobby I am in. Secondly So what your saying in Sim lobby the goalies dont skate to the other end of the ice for no reason this is just a feature of offline play and advanced lobby.. Come on man admit the game is full of glitches if you cat then I mean Im glad that you can look past some pretty crazy glitches and I guess 2k banks on players like you Im just tired of the same problems year in and year out

Wtf? Again, I've played almost 700 games, and not 1 single time have I ever seen the goalie skate to the other side of the ice.
I've seen the goalie leave the net during a PENALTY before.. I've seen someone accidently click the stick down and hit something to manually pull their goalie -- but I have never once seen the goalie skate onto the other side of the ice.
Secondly, how does advanced lobby play like an arcade game? Explain.
And again, I just explained to you how there are no "cheese goals".
If you allow 47 1-on-1's with the goalie on the right side, right corner, *POINT BLANK*, someone WILL score on you at least 8 times - even in real life. 1-on-1's are avoided like the plague in real hockey because they're virtually free goals. 47 1-on-1's, 8 goals. Still a high saving ratio.
If you'd like me to go even further in detail (and I can, alot more) about how none of those shots are cheese, and are actually a lack of fundamental defense, I will thoroughly explain it to you. I'd actually like to, so that when people ***** about it online I can point them to the post on here.
Let me know.
It's easier for people to cry, "Glitcher!", "Cheeser!", "Cheater!", then it is for them to say, "Well, I could probably play better defense." or, "I should've guarded that post better.", or, "I should've called collapse or clear the front of the net play there." or, "I shouldn't have skated backwords out of the play like that.", or, "I chose the wrong time to dive.", or "I shouldn't have stopped to lay my stick down there.", or, "I shouldn't have went for the poke check there and let him skate around me, I shoulda tried to check him", etc.
Calling something in this game a "cheese goal" is a copout. It's something people allow themselves to do because everyone else is doing it, to justify their loss (as in, "Oh, if he beat me badly, it must've been CHEATING! Not me having a lack of defensive skill!). It's easier and softer on people's egos to cry cheat then it is for them to admit they could've done something different defensively.
Anyway, again, if you'd like a deep, thorough explanation of how specific shots aren't cheese goals, and are actually caused by lack of defense, I will show you. Infact, if these boards let you post pictures, I will even give you picture layouts from Paint that help explain the situations as I type them.

I guess 2k banks on players like you Im just tired of the same problems year in and year out
They also bank on players who complain about not-all-that-big-of-a-deal glitches, yet still love the game enough to buy it year after year anyway. Are my $50 worth alot more than your $50 or something? Obviously you must like the games enough overall, or you wouldn't be buying them.
There's always scorefest, coin-operated arcade game EA though right?
Looks like they bank on players like you too. Infact, they bank on players like you more than "players like me". You don't even like the game - and you're STILL buying it! That's some kicka** marketing right there! LoL
/personal attack rebuttle off
ok, we're good. back to the discussion.
