How to KEEP Your Teams
You can save separate roster files on hard drive and memory card in order to have a total of 16 accessible teams. Though you would have to restart the game (or venture into the rather well hidden LOAD menu screen) to switch between the two stored banks of eight teams. There are another couple of ways around the limitation however.
If you join an online League or Tournament with a team configured in a particular manner, your entire roster, playbook and uniform design are uploaded to the 2K Sports server. Even if you lose your original Roster file on the system, or delete it yourself, or change that team completely offline, when you play your online games within the League or Tournament, the teams will be exactly as you set them up originally.
Similarly, if you create an offline Season using your team, everything about them is saved within the SEASON file, which you can name whatever you like, on your system. Remember, each time you start a new Season, the schedule is randomly generated. So you won't be stuck playing the same teams in the same order over and over and over again, unless you want to... These save files are again completely independent of the Roster file.
The sticking point is that though you get to complete your online Leagues or Tournaments or offline Seasons, if the team you want is not currently in your Roster file, you will NOT be able to play unscheduled pickup games with that particular team either locally or online.
I suggest the following. Create a team of your own, maybe the Wings. Once you have it set up just the way you like, start Season mode and choose that team. As soon as you enter Season mode you will be shown your schedule. Bring up the menu and SAVE your season with a name like "WINGS 000" or whatever.
Quit out of Season mode and create a new one. You will see a new schedule, different from the one you had before. Save this one as "WINGS 100". Repeat the process to create "WINGS 200" and "WINGS 300" if you like.
OK. Now LOAD the first Season file, WINGS 000, play the first game. Once it is done, save it again, only this time as "WINGS 001" instead. This way you can always go back and start your season over again from the beginning if you want, but you also have a save file that includes your progress thus far.
Once you have completed the first Season, move on to the next one, WINGS 100. Play its first game, save the result as "WINGS 101". From this point on you will use that file to track your progress. You can do the same with all the rest.
This way you can put in some good practice offline with the teams you have created. You don't have to worry about losing a team that you enjoyed playing with. You get more time to learn the ins and outs of the personnel. In the end you may even learn how to use guys that got on your nerves early on.
Dealing with adversity seems to be a continuing thread of purpose within this game. No doubt. Take care, happy gaming, enjoy life!
