EA is stepping up...!?

I recently read a post on EA's website from one of the developer's in which he laid out the game and it's improvements. I will say that if his comments are true...then EA may be the game to beat this year.

As I said in an earlier post, I have supported 2K games for sometime and want the most accurate and genuine hockey game instead of some arcade version, but I am concerned that 2k is not really putting a lot of information out their about their game. EA is throwing out video after video and 2k is not, nor are they giving us a lot of information.

Both companies have made strides that I truly believe will be better then any versions they have had in the past, but for the first time, I am on the fence on who will get my money in less the 10 days.

I guess my question to 2k is, how did EA get AHL teams and you didn't? How come we are seeing little information out there about your game and if EA is being touted as possibly another bust, how come 08 was the runner-up at E3 for best sports game.

I know I will probably stay with 2k hockey, but if it still shows the same glitches and issues that we all continue to complain about, then NHL 09 may have a new supporter.

Please 2k, don't let us down!

Don't let EA fool you. They also said some really great things about Madden too and lied about that. They said that you could do things in Franchise mode that you actually cannot do.

Wait until it comes out, rent both games, at the same time even, and compare them yourself. Then decide which one is better.

They can say all they want about what they want in the game, but wait for it to get there and for it to be programmed correctly so that it actually works right.

I think EA is telling the truth, they are actually going to put the Skill Stick on the PC and Ps2 versions. They also said they are putting all features from the Next Gen on the Current Gen. I haven't heard anything from 2ksports saying the Pro Stick will be in the Current Gen version

Hawks there is actually alot of info on 2K out there it's just at http://www.2khockey.net because they have been getting exclusive info directly from 2K Sports/Kush Games so won't see it at say IGN, Gamespot, Gamespy an the like.

I don't know if 2k is in trouble either. I read the information on 2khockey.net and it sounds great, but I just wonder if the strides where enough. With EA you tend to get arcade style sports games, namely Madden which I am not at all happy with and having 2k football, it was more of a sound then Madden. Both have made strides, but my fear is that the glitches that normally affect 2k hockey are not fixed. Reading EA posts, I haven't read a lot of concerns from those posting on their website. 2K looks great and I want it to succeed...we will all know in less then two weeks

i just watched the video of the blackhawks and columbus again and tell me if I am seeing things wrong. It still looks like the CPU on offense has no problem just coming down and shooting the puck almost every time. No offense set-up, just skate past the hawk's defender and shoots and the same goes for the CPU defense. They fall behind when trying to get back on defense and never set-up. There is one point in the video where the hawk player is at the blue line and a columbus defender is just standing right next to him not going after the puck or doing anything for a good couple of seconds and even has has his back to the hawk's player before the play is ruled offside. Help me understand if the defense and AI are fixed, how this should happen. Hockey is not about skating down and shooting.

Hawks,that video between the Hawks and Jackets was not even a good video to start judging the game by.Honestly man I would be patient,rent the game when it comes out,adjust some sliders to a more sim setting and then judge the game.

I have been a 2K guy for years (started out an EA guy) and I'm worried dat the engine to 2K's sports are showing their age. NHL 2K7 was great with its flaws n all and they continued to keep it 60 frames per second (on and offline). Unfortunately, NBA 2K7, College Hoops 2K7 and even All Pro Football 2K8 took a bite on the online frame rate dropping to what I assume 30 frames per second and maybe under. IMHO frame rate is what seperated 2K from EA as well as good gameplay. I played NCAA 08, Madden 08 and the NHL 08 demo and I must say (aside from NCAA) EA is stepping dere game up and even took a page outta 2K's book with making their sports titles 60 frames. I hate to say it but it feels as if 2K is going backwards instead of moving forward, but they did at least give great gameplay with college hoops 2K7, great signature style wit NBA 2K7 and I guess they tried with All Pro Football 2K8 (but missed out on defense) at the same time sacrificing framerate. I hope 2K got a trick up der sleeve, cause the way it's starting to look is dat EA IS LOADED AND COCKED AND READY FOR WHATEVER!

Oh I almost forgot, EA has online multiplayer on NHL 08 and FIFA 08. MEANING FOR HOCKEY 6 PEOPLE ON 6 DIFFERENT XBOXES CAN PLAY WITH AND AGAINST EACH OTHER AND FIFA 08 HAS 10 PEOPLE ON 10 DIFFERENT XBOXES BOTH WITH ONLINE LEAGUES.

What's wrong with defense in All Pro? Anyways, EA's games ran at 60FPS on the last gen, but it took them three years to get things optimized now. For some reason, they're "syepping it up" and always get a free pass. Yeah, the basketball games didn't hold great with the online frame drops, but it doesn't hurt All Pro (which I assume is running off of the NBA2K7 engine). Madden, in my opinion, is hardly a real effort. Oh look, it's 60fps, EA must be stepping it up. EA finally puts a little effort and everyone forgets the amount of crap they put out the last two years. When playing the NHL07 demo, it felt and looked a lot like NHL2K7 to me. Which is funny, because Live 08 looks a heck of a lot like NBA2K7. It's good that they are stepping up, lets praise them for it (sarcasm).

When I started this thread, I wasn't saying that EA has stepped up, but have they. I have played the demo and it is not for me. It is good...for a demo. Regardless of which hockey game you buy...someone will complain that it didn't live up to your expectations. Madden is flawed and actually has been traded in for my 2k hockey game. EA has made strides toward realism, but 2K has made an attempt to make the arcade and sim players as happy as possible. Next year, these threads will pop up again and again we will have complaints and kudos. In the end, you will buy what you want and should not listen to others opinions.

2K8 looks like a completely redone game as well. Why do people assume that EA has all of these new engines? NHL 08 is actually dubbed down to get it at 60FPS, and doesn't look sigificantly better than 2K7. I played the demo, and it's okay, but it doesn't blow anything away. The defense is still suspect, the poke check is laughable, and collision detection needs serious help. Not to mention that wristers are a bit unrealistic. It looks and plays better than 07, but in no way do I feel that it carries beyond anything the 2K team may have accomplished. What incredible realism did you see in NHL08, because I really didn't see much? Dilarious I suppose?

I played the demo, and played it some more and the more I play the less I like it, the more I find bad things about it. In fact I think that the biggest difference between NHL 07 and NHL 08 seems to be the in the title.

The players animation is very bad to say the least, the hitting, the pokechecks, the background bluriness when you see a cut scene, having no real speedburst, the same way to easily score just like in 07, the bad control on defense ...

Yeah, the more I play this demo, the more I can't wait to see and try NHL 2K8, because it don't have much to do to be better than that.

Maybe EA is stepping up, but from what I've seen, they were waaaayyyy down, so they'll have to step up some more to please me.

I don't doubt the improvements in NHL08, but the game acts very similar to NHL2K7. Also, the Live 08 vids look scaringly similar to NBA2K7. Hmmm...

Yeah EA is making strides,but I would hardly say they are that close to taking out the 2K series.That is unless they resort to their Madden tactics and buy all the licenses.I don't see that happening though because the NHL isn't as stupid as the NFL.Besides 2K would probably just make college game or another legends game but Hockey and better.

Well with the loss of Drury and Briere it's not going to be such an entertaining season but we have alot of young skilled players on our team that have a chance to step up this year.

I should start a tv show where i find people fighting over the boards and set them up to meet face to face to see what happens. could be funny to watch who knows.
