View Full Version : What Team Will you Pick and Why?

I did a full analysis (excel spreadsheet an all, lol) of the teams from a offensive power (Weapons - QB, WR, RB, TE) defensive power (Secondary, Linebackers, and Lineman) and the Passing teams easily come out as stronger across the board offensively, while the Running teams come out stronger across the board defensively (note that I use the term strong here loosely), and the poor balanced teams stink it up on both sides of the ball. Weak on both, strong on neither.

How To Pick Your Team
Players need to determine whether you are a ball control (running) team, or a big play team (passing), and go from there. Since there is no defense to speak of in the teams, the best offensive team is more than likely going to win (if play ability is equal). Even though it's not the best choice for an overall win, I am going to take a running team in hopes of using the superior defense to my advantage (hopes!), and use a RB with short passing since that's my forte anyways. In other words, I picking a team based on my strengths, instead of based on the overall strength of the team itself. I am not a run back and lob it deep type of player. Short 5 to 15 yard plays are where it's at for me.

I have about a 70% win record with 76 games under my belt. I am only ranked a little below 900, but my running game is in the 350's overall while my passing is around 1300 (online ranking). Yes, I have played against guys that can stop the run, the problem is I know how to pass as well, out of line ups that look like the standard run plays (Pro/Jack). If I see a continual blitz, or man coverage, I can effectively exploit it typically netting 5 to 15 yards as indicated previously. Short yardage yes, but fairly repeatable yardage.

I haven't made my final decision yet, but I have narrowed my team choice down to one of the Running teams with either Sanders, Sayers, or Simpson.

Has anyone else picked their team, or are close to making a decision? What team did you pick and why?

Everything you typed pretty much boils right down to this. I didn't even bother reading it all. In the end I knew this is what you would say. Why? Because it's the only logical choice.
ALL PRO TOURNAMENT=GOLD RUNNING BACK
Point blank. I never even use a gold back before, EVER. And now I'll have to because this is the only thing that gives a DISTINCT advantage over everything else.

I disagree. The passing teams can score at will given the lack of defense on all teams. It will simply come down to who has the ball last, or who commits the one fatal turn-over regardless of which teams are used (assuming no one picks a lame-*** balanced team).

Chuck Muncie runs like a Gold if you know how to use him. Basically anyone who is Silver or Gold with Branching Tackles is going to be a monster (Okoye at Bronze is, shall we say, a mini-monster) .

What's wrong with the balanced teams?

I picked the Gunslingers. 2 Bronze WRs, a Bronze TE, a Silver HB, and with a Gold OLB and CB, hopefully I can get maybe one stop in the game for a win.

Cavalry ... wooohooo

With Lane at corner, a DE and 2 LB's I'll hopefully be able to get one key stop somewhere.

With Moon, a silver TE and WR, and a bronze WR with Means and a G and T blocking, I should be able to put up tons of points against these defenses. Get a lead and then just run Means over people to kill the rest of the clock.

I gave in and went with Barry Sanders, picking the Sailors for my team. Simpson was probably the better choice, but I just can't play that guy. He's wearing gloves in the game, and they both fit! lol

I just now went through the top 100 to get a feel for what people were picking and it was pleasantly surprising with a lot of teams being picked that I didn't think anyone would pick. Overall the 'Red Dogs' easily were #1 with at least 2x the number picks of any other teams. The next two were the Fishermen and the Demons which were tied for 2nd place. I never considered the Fishermen, although Marino is a beast, but I did give the Demons a thorough workout.

It seems like it is mixed up a little. I only saw a couple people with the same team that I picked.

The Fishermen will be Ditka abusers for sure. That's why I ended up with a team with two LBs .... double and triple coverage if needed.

Well, I had pretty much picked the Rice/Young combo as the #1 team from an offensive strength point. I was surprised to see a lot of teams selected that I personally didn't think made the cut such as the Gunslingers, Law, Americans, and Indians. As noted, most of the selections are passing teams, except for the Gunslingers. People are looking to shred the weak secondary of most of the teams. I'm surprised the Gunslingers was used as the name for a balanced team. You'd think a team with the name 'slinger' in it would be a passing team. heh

I figured since the secondaries were weak everywhere, I'd pick a team with a couple LBs and 1 CB. If I'm lucky, I can tie up the run enough to maybe come up with an interception when they go to the air.

I gave in and played to my strength, which is running. I do better with Sanders, Sayers, and Simpson than I do with Earl. I can typically easily out run the competition if the go with Earl as well. I'll take speed and elusiveness over pure power any day. That gives me a silver CB to take one WR out of the game (pretty much), a LB to cover the TE, and two lineman to make a push for the QB. I'd love to trade that stupid kicker in for another ILB or OLB though. I would have been better off defensively with the Simpson or Sayers team, but I had more success in the passing game with Kosar than with Hebert or Landry. Kosar is faster than Ware too for scrambles, but slower than Landry. Since this is going to primarily be an offensive contest, I chose to place my bet with the best offense for my playing style, instead of the better defense. It might not be the best strategy... but it is 'a' strategy.

I went with the Fisherman but probably should have went with the team that had Moon and Night Train. I chose the Fishermen because I am too comfortable using Marino. It's really hard for me to play with other Qb's because I'm so used to the laser/rocket arm and the quick release. I would love for people to triple Ditka because I still have Irving Fryar and watch out for the deep ball to Alvin Harper(which is on most of my teams now).

I've been practicing with the cobras for the past week , but decided to go with the Cyclones.

Bulldozer TE, 2 good WRs, best silver qb IMO, and butkus and woods on D. : )

Wondering, where do you guys find the teams?
