What defensive plays do you run?

Honestly, I dont use very many types of defensive plays. (4-3 defense)

Cover 3
Cover 3 Strong
Cover 3 Weak
Cover 2 soft
2 man
4 sky
2 bump

a few others but those are the most popular.

what do some of you guys run, because I have lost like 7 straight games and have now dropped to 41-45. I want to know if there is anything I can do defensively do stop guys a little more often

I don't run many defense of plays either. I like to play zone a lot, and i'm big on defense. Playing defense means alot to me. I like to use the 3-4 more than anything:

3 Strong
Weak Crash 3
3 Robber
3 Dog T
Spear Weak 33 Under
3 Weak
Cover 3
Cover 3 Weak
Key Zone
4 Cloud

Those are the ones i run out of the 3-4, and they are very affective for my Zone defense. But you need the right players to make the 3-4 work or you will get beat hard.


If i do run the 4-3 because of the type of players i have i use:
3 Strong
3 Weak
Weak Crash 3
3 Robber
Cover 3
Cover 3 Weak
Strong Blast 3
Strong Blast 2
Weak Blast 2
Inside Blast 3
Strong Crash 3
Weak Blast 3

As you can see i use more plays in the 4-3... But i prefer 3-4 over 4-3.

Wow, I can't beleive you guys use so many plays. Nothing wrong with it. I wish I could be more creative with my play options. I tend to get stuck with 2-4 plays and that's it.

I geuss I suck at determining the right play for the situation other than choosing a basic play to stop a run or pass.

What are the key things you look at for each play to pick what's the most effective play?

I'm like you - I play 4-3, and go between 2 man, 2 bump, and zero coverage blitz. Works fine for me. I get burned sometimes, but that's football.

Well if you noticed the plays i pick they are all zone plays. And if you look at them they all have 3 players playing deep zone while the rest that's not on the line plays low zone. So they really aren't that different, besides the fact that some plays call for blitz which i use on 3rd downs. And i use different zone blitz to confuse the offense so they don't know where the blitz will come from. And when i don't blitz (1st and 2nd downs) the thing that changes are just the player positions pretty much. I mean setting up in a 3-4 like i do you have to safeties at top with 2 corners and 4 LB's. Well as i told you the zone i play i have 3 players playing deep zone. So pretty much it's just different combinations of players moving to different positions. When the ball is hiked you never know where my player will play zone at. Sometimes my safety comes down and play low zone while my CB steps back deep, or my LB steps back deep while the SS steps up. It just things like that....not that big of a difference. It does look like alot of plays but they are pretty much the same.

A blitz every play whether it be zone or man. Almost always have a safety back in coverage.

The defenes I pick are based on the down and yardage. And also my oppenent. One of the most flawed defenses in this game is 2-hard.. I can't believe how much gets caught on this defense that shouldnt be.

2 Corners (Good when yu gotta stop Jerry, Need a good CB tho)
3 Dog T (Good for stopping TE abusers)
2 Soft (good for stopping screens and outside runs)
4 Soft ( good for stopping middle/slant routes)
dats really all i use. I have a 113th ranked D and only allow 14.9 per
