I don't know much about the WCO except it sets up the run and consist of timing. I want to build a WCO team, but also have enough stars left to have a good defense, would this be possible? Thanks for the help in advance.

i would go with 2 quick and speedy silver recievers and a silver qb, and pick up 1 maybe 2 bronze recievers and everything else on defense

You still want a decent HB in the WCO. Setting up the run doesn't do you any good if you can't run it.
As Tbon said ... get a couple solid recievers, a decent QB (doesn't need to have a cannon arm because passes will be short), maybe a TE and a decent HB. That is 5 guys. Put the other 6 on defense and have at it.

The West Coat offense relies on quick, short passes with multiple receivers to establish the pass, and then running the ball.
Quarterback:
Get an accurate passer, preferably with a quick release.
Suggested Abilities: Laser Arm, Quick Release, Pocket Presence
Running Backs
Get a more speed-finesse Halfback with the ability to catch passes and run routes.
Suggested Abilities: Finesse, Speed Burner, Soft Hands, Possession Receiver
Receivers
Get a set of three or four possession Wide Receivers to spread across the field. Speed is good. A Tight End is optional; decide if you are going to use packages that involve a Tight End.
Suggested Abilities: Possession Receiver, Soft Hands, Speed Burner, Quick Feet
Offensive Linemen
Don't bother with linemen. You will be getting rid of the ball quickly in a West Coast offense. Set your Line to run block.

what was your time of posesion in that game? since i know you did short passes which is almost like running you could have drained so much clock. i hate when that happens though clock draining, its smart just anoying for me

If you're running a WCO, you really don't need many (or any) legends at all. They're short quick passes that depend on the plays, flooding zones, running crosses, etc. I have an all generic offense and frankly it works great with the WCO. Now granted 20-yard passes are rare but those nice 5-yard gains I can get on any given down.
Man, now that I think about it I haven't played this (or any video game) in nearly a month. Gotta find some time and get started again.

WOW! Someone already created this exact same post two days ago. Here is what I wrote:
Yes. Here is a dream West Coast personnel group.
Gold: QB Joe Montana
Silver: HB Roger Craig
Silver: WR Dante Lavelli
Silver: WR Don Maynard
Bronze: TE Pete Metzelaars
Bronze: WR Dwight Clark
Bronze: FB Tom Rathman
QB: Joe Montana is the MAN! The WC Offense was created around him so why not use him.
HB: The "Catfish" Roger Craig is the key to this offense because he can run with the best of them but is also a possession WR. One of the most versatile backs in the game. Thurman Thomas would fill this role too if you wanted to use a gold pick on a HB, but this kind of goes against the whole WC theme.
FB: Tom Rathman can pass block which is great, but he can also catch, and he was on the 49ers Superbowl team, so why not.
WR: Both Lavelli and Maynard have Route God which means they can run the kind of precise routes you need to keep moving the chains. Dwight Clark is a perfect WC guy, and besides, he's Dwight Freaking Clark! It's almost sacrilegious to have a WC offense without him.
TE: It doesn't sound like you throw to your TE a lot, but you should start. The cool thing about a TE is that he creates big time matchup problems since he usually ends up paired against a LB or S. Metz can make huge plays now and then but is overall the reliable TE you need to move the chains.
I understand that I have 7 guys here. You should probably swap out ether Metz or Dwight Clark and either run Split/Near/Far Pro sets with the TE or Spread sets with an extra WR instead. You can drop Rathman if you don't think you will use him. The whole concept of the West Coast offense is moving the chains. It features running the ball, but a lot of short passes, crossing routes, etc. If you need 4 yards, you call a play that gets you 5 (as opposed to a vertical pass). When Walsh created the offense, the NFL was all about run, run, run, and if you got to third down you threw it down the field. He decided that if he needed 4 yards he would throw a 3 yard hitch and let his WR fall forward for a 1st down. The offense is actually more complex than it sounded, though.
Here is what Dwight Clark said about it:
"All I knew was that [at Clemson] a 10 yard hitch was a 10 yard hitch. But in the West Coast offense, a 10 yard hitch was a 10 yard hitch against a soft zone, a slant against man-to-man coverage, a quick out against deep 3 coverage, an out and around against man under, [etc]. That is what made this offense so difficult; there were no dumb jocks on our team."
Ronnie Lott said:
"What made the West Coast offense so tough to stop was the ability of the WRs to read the coverage and change both their routes and their route depths on the fly based on what the defense was giving them. Sometimes we would look at the plays and look at our defensive coordinator and smile and say, 'Yeah, that's going to be hard to stop'."

No, not the exact same. I'm asked for a good west coast team, but have enough slots to have a good defense. Using your dream team, I'd only have for slots left for that.

You need guys who can CATCH the ball reliably. They would have a good mix of abilities like Soft Hands, Clutch, Tough over the Middle, Mr Third Down and Route God abilities among the following players:
Wide Receivers - 2
TE - 1
FB - 1
HB - 1
Pretty much any QB will do, among the Legends. That leaves only five spots for your Defensive Legends, so choose them wisely. Run plays where all five of those Elligible Receivers, or at least three or four, are on the field at all times. Generally speaking you would just choose formations that have the Fullback in place and that should cover you fine. Have fun!

I played SteveRogers84 when he had Ronnie Lott and Night Trane Lane as his Golds, Lem Barney and Greg Lloyd, and Jessie Tuggle as his Silvers, Charlie Waters at Bronze then a Bronze QB, HB, TE, WR1, WR2, FB or WR3. That seemed like a very good concept for a team to me. His defense was stacked with everyone in the secondary being a gold or silver except Waters, who is no slouch himself, and 2 silver LBs. I had a tough time scoring, but there are plenty of spots left for offense.

Again, if you're running the WCO, don't waste too many picks on offense. Generics do just great on short passes/routes, which is all you're aiming for. Then create a monsterous D where all you need is a TD to win it.
