College Hoops 2K8The guys at 2K invited us to their PR studio yesterday in New York’s Union Square to preview College Hoops 2K8. We were all about College Hoops 2K7 in the Dime office, so were fired up to see this year’s version of the game.

Slated to drop in November for Xbox 360, Playstation 2 and PS3, the version we saw yesterday was only 70 percent finished, but you could still get a solid handle on how the final version will look and play.

The controls from last year basically stayed the same, but the guys at 2K have added in a feature called “Maximum Passing.” Basically by holding down a trigger button (it will vary depending on which system you have) and pressing another button you can control which type of pass your player throws. So if you’re playing as UCLA, you can throw those legendary overhead outlet passes with Kevin Love.

In addition to Maximum Passing, a feature called “The 6th Man Advantage” will be introduced. This feature allows the crowd to directly help your team’s performance. The better you play, the more your fans back you up. You can just imagine what Cameron does for the Dukies in this game…

The game has given all of the major arenas graphic facelifts. Now, the Carrier Dome’s complete with the blue drapes that cover the rest of the football field and the huge “S” that the Orange now have on their floor.

Gamers can now create their own plays and keep their shooting percentage up with the help of the “Active Hot Zones.” Imagine cell phone bars under each player - the closer you are to their range the more bars you’ll have. Tennessee’s Chris Lofton will have full service from beyond the three-point line with UConn’s Hasheem Thabeet’s range will be limited to the paint.

And then, after all of that, there is a special mode on the game where you can match your skills in basketball’s most famous drills against NCAA legends. Always thought J.J. Redick was overrated? Try and take him out in a college three-point shootout.

It going to be hard to balance work and leisure at the Dime Headquarters once this game hits the streets. My prediction: yours truly will reign supreme in the office on the sticks as I did in ’07.
