Bears 2006 Season Recap
In 2006, the Chicago Bears made some astounding progress, all the way to the big game. They were led by the same sound defense, and again an unpredictable ofense as the ground their way throught the NFC. Season highlights included the astonishing rokkie phenom, Devin Hester, going to the pro bowl in his first pro season after returning an nfl record 6 kicks for touchdowns.
Bears 2007 - 2008 Season Preview
Although it'll be very hard for the Bears to establish the same sort of dominance they showed in 2006, it is possible. If the offense finally emerges and plays to it's potential, the defence will hold it's own and Chicago may once again rule the NFC. The coach, softly spoken genius Lovie Smith expects exellence from his players and this year he think he will get it. He said " This team is capable of great things. The defense is as good as any i have seen, and may rival the legends from 1985, and i know the offense can make big plays, all my faith is in Rex (QB Rex Grossman) to lead this team.

Key Players for 2007 - 2008
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa265/rensmacneill/football_CedricBenson7.gif
RB #32 Cedric Benson
Benson will be a key cog in Chicago's offense this year and will have to shoulder the load himself after the departure of Thomas Jones to the Jets.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa265/rensmacneill/football_brianUrlacher.gif
MLB #54 Brian Urlacher
Urlacher is the undisputed leader of this dominant Bears defense. The fans only expect more al pro play from their star linebacker this year.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa265/rensmacneill/football_tommieHarris.gif
DT #91 Tommie Harris
The words used to describe Harris' season last year were "Greatness interrupted" as the pro bowler went down with a hamstring injury and the defense showed the signs of wear and tear. This season, look for another pro bowl season from the young star.
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa265/rensmacneill/football_lanceBriggs.gif
OLB #55 Lance Briggs
Anyone near the level of Brian Urlacher deserves major credit and Briggs makes the bears linebacking corps one of the best, if not the best in the league. A great tackler with impressive wheels, Briggs looks comfortable this year with the Bears.

I say Jon Kitna burns the Chicago D which Hands Chicago a loss, Kitna bounces back after we tortured him and the Lions last week. My prediction 30-15 if Griese has a big game i might have faith in the rest of the bears season.

Big test for Bears straight off the bat.
The Chicago Bears will face one of the superpowers of the AFC in their game and will look to assert themselves with a win and build the foundations for a good season. The key for Chicago will likely be to shutdown the run and make the young quarterback Philip Rivers throw some passes early. The first few quarters will feature eight in the box most of the time from Chicago to try and stop mercurial San Diego running back Ladainian Tomlinson. If the Bears have any chance of a victory this week, they must establish themselves on offense and the defense must be up to it's usual best. Brian Urlacher will need to quarterback the Chicago D to perfection and will get the utmost support from his team. At the very least, this game will produce quality football, and almost definitely some fireworks.

Jamal Williams celebrates after sacking Rex Grossman and forcing a fumble
The Bears came into California looking to assert themselves early and get off to a good start. The game was played in fine conditions, with temperatures at 80 degrees at kickoff. The game started at 4:15pm in Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego.
The game started slowly in classic grind it out style football, and both running games struggled to get going early. Each teams first two drives ended in punts, with the Chargers playing it safe and kicking away from electric return man Devin Hester and not letting him work his magic.
The first scoring of the game happened early in the second quarter, when the Bears defense bit hard, too hard, on a playfake to San Diego running back Ladainian Tomlinson. Quarterback Philip Rivers found tight end Antonio Gates over the middle and he broke three tackles on his way to scoring from 42 yards out. Score 7-0 Chargers. The following kickoff was returned by Hester 45 yards, and the Bears looked to be making progress. After three good, hard runs from halfback Cedric Benson of 10, 14, and 17 yards respectively, Chicago was in good position to even the game. On the next play from scrimmage, massive Chargers nose tackle, Jamal Williams, broke through his double team to smother Rex Grossman into a sack and a fumble, which was recovered by Luis Castillo.
Placed with having to defend a short field by it's offense, Chicago's defense stepped up big, with Tommie Harris sacking Philip Rivers twice in consecutive plays, and forcing a three and out. The Chargers settled to punt it away. Devin Hester fielded the kick at his own 21, made two men miss, then cut left, got some blocks and cut left to the sideline. The footrace was over and Hester had struck again, a 79 yard punt return TD. Score 7-7.
On the very next drive, San Diego started strongly, but still consistent running lanes for both teams were not being opened up. Rivers hit his receivers to move the chains and his team down the field. But once again, in the shadow of their own goalposts, the Bears defense refused to relent, with LT being stopped for losses on consecutive plays by defensive tackle, Tommie Harris. Brian Urlacher also allowed no one to pass him by, as he and fellow linebacker, Lance Briggs allowed very little space to anybody all game long. the Chargers settled for a field goal, which Nate Kaeding promptly put through. Score 10-7 Chargers.
in the third quarter, the Bears proceeded to march steadily down the field, with clutch plays to move the chains and keep the drive alive. The drive was capped by a 9 yard run from Cedric Benson. Benson continued to struggle in spite of the touchdown, as he was faced with having to break a tackle in the backfield to get anywhere. Score 14-10 Bears.
The Bears had their first lead of the game, but they would not hold on to it for long, as Philip Rivers delivered a perfect screen pass to LT, which he took 50 yards to the 21, as he was run down from behind by Nathan Vasher. Rivers then found Vincent Jackson down the right sideline. Jackson reached over Charles Tillman to make a spectacular falling catch into the endzone for a 21 yard score. Score 17-14 Chargers
In the fourth, the opportunities came and came for the Bears but the offense could not capitalize. Rex Grossman struggled to find open receivers and Cedric Benson had nowhere to run. The Bears defense kept the team in the game until late, when Grossman was sacked twice on consecutive by Shawne Merriman. The victory was sealed for San Diego when Grossman was intercepted by Antonio Cromartie with 1:20 left in the fourth. The clock was run down and the win completed.
Final Score

Bears look to rebound quickly
The Chicago Bears will come home for the first time this season as they host Larry Johnson and the Kansas City Chiefs, another team from the AFC. Much of the game's focus will be on running and stopping the run, as Johnson hopes to improve on his week one numbers of 85 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns. Meanwhile, Cedric Benson will be working to up his average after a horrendous week one. Against the Houston Texans, the Chiefs lost 20-17 but showed some success stopping the run, as they limited Amhan Green to 70 yards rushing and one touchdown. This may be due to the fact that the Texans had so much success throwing the ball as Andre Johnson broke out, catching 9 balls for 210 yards and a score. The style of football will be very old school, a "Pound the rock" type game that will be fought from whistle to whistle.

Larry Johnson had no space to run all game
The Chicago Bears came into the windy city looking to prove themselves in front of home fans and they did not disappoint. In true Chicago style, the game was bitterly cold, with temperatures barely reaching 59 degrees at kickoff. The game kicked off at 4:15 pm in Soldier Field in Chicago.
Kansas City won the toss and elected to receive. Things did not start well for them. On the third play of the game, Larry Johnson took the handoff, cut left as he went throught the line and started to spin. Meanwhile, Tommie Harris had disengaged from his block and chased Johnson down, forcing the ball free and it was recovered by Brian Urlacher. This set the tone of the game for the Chiefs in what would turn out to be a long day at the office. With the short field, the Bears had no trouble putting points on the board, as they were force to fourth down, but kicker Robbie Gould slotted it through from 45 yards out. Score 3-0 Bears.
After the rest of the first quarter yielded no more scoring, the Bears broke out in the second. It all started when quarterback Rex Grossman launched a bullet to a wide open Bernard Berrian over the middle. No one could catch him, and he scored a 57 yard touchdown. Score 10-0 Bears. The Chiefs showed some signs of life late in the second when Damon Huard rolled right out of the pocket and caught rookie wide receiver Dwayne Bowe on a crossing pattern for a gain of 29. The good spirits were short lived though as Huard tried to force the subject by throwing into double coverage to tight end Tony Gonzalez, and the pass was picked off by Nathan Vasher.
The Chiefs finally got on the board after a solid drive, culminating in a 42 yard screen pass touchdown. Huard faked the handoff to Larry Johnson, then rolled right, letting the screen set up. He the found Johnson with the pass on the left and Larry did the rest, trucking 4 defenders on the play. He plowed into the endzone to give the Chiefs some hope. Score 10-7 Bears.
In the third, after two solid quarters of solid football, Cedric Benson showed why he was taken 4th overall by the Bears. He took a hanoff, showed a nice spin move, ran over the safety, Bernard Pollard and ran away from the rest of the Kansas City defense as part of a 64 yard touchdown. Score 17-7 Bears. On the next Bears possesion, Brad Maynard sent a punt out of bounds at the two. The next play was a dive right up the middle by Johnson for no gain. On the very next play, Damon Huard was sacked by Mark Anderson for a loss of 5 and a safety. Score 19-7 Bears.
The fourth quarter was more of the same, the only two hiccups were when Rex Grossman was sacked by Tamba Hali. The first down was gained on a 17 yard run by Cedric Benson, but Rex threw the ball away again, being picked off be Patrick Surtain at the Kansas City 43 yard line. Te Chiefs tried unsuccessfully to get Larry Johnson into space and the closest they came was a 28 yard catch on the right sideline by Sammy Parker. The win was sweet for the Bears as they improve to 1-1 on the season while the Chiefs fall to 0-2. The improvement in offensive production was pleasing to Lovie Smith and he wants to keep the level up at the top.

Bears hope to holdout at home
The Chicago Bears will go head to head with the Dallas Cowboys, which is a game tat could seriously be the NFC title game later this year. The Cowboys started well this season by thumping the Giants 42-14, courtesy of rushing touchdowns from Julius Jones and Marion Barber(2). Tony Romo also found Terrell Owens through the air for another two scores. The Bears will certainly have their hands full if they wish to win this game, as controlling both Cowboys running backs is easier said than done. If Chicago can bottle up the Dallas ground game, defending wideouts, Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn will become that much easier for the Bears defensive backs. This is a game where a team puts seven points on the board and that is enough for a W.

Marion Barber hits paydirt in the second quarter
The standard of football was always going to be good as the 2-0 Cowboys came to Soldier Field. It was freezing temperatures again in the windy city as the mercury at kickoff barely reached 45. Game kickoff was scheduled for 8:15pm. Bears, Cowboys brought to you by NBC.
The offenses on both teams had nights to forget, but at least the Dallas offense scored some points. The game started like a defensive groundout does, with each team’s first three drives being three-and-outs. Late in the first quarter when the Bears had driven to midfield and looking threatening, DeMarcus Ware beat Jon Tait off the edge to sack Rex Grossman and force the Bears to punt.
After a Robbie Gould touchback to start the second quarter, the Cowboys looked sharp. Quarterback Tony Romo found wide receiver Terrell Owens down the left sideline and h toe tapped his way to a 25 yard catch. With the ball on the Dallas 45 yard line, Romo looked for and got TO again, this time, Owens out jumped cornerback Chares Tillman and was hammered and flipped in the air by safety Mike Brown, but Owens held onto the ball, for a 33 yard reception on the play. The next play, the Bears defense put double coverage on Owens and the decision backfired, as Romo fired a bullet to Terry Glenn for 12 yards and moved the chains. Running back enforcer Marion Barber came in and did all that was needed, scoring from ten yards out on a powerful inside handoff. Score 7-0 Cowboys.
With Cedric Benson and the rest of the Bears offense having no success against a solid Dallas defense, in came rookie running back Garrett Wolfe, hoping to make some plays. His first play was a HB lead dive, and Wolfe made the first few Cowboys miss. As he broke into the secondary, he was pummeled by safety headhunter Roy Williams. Williams crushing hit reverberated around the field and caused Wolfe to suffer from a broken rib. He will be out for 4-6 weeks with the injury.
With the Chicago running game all but gone, Rex Grossman started to force throws, and was picked off by Ken Hamlin, the free agent safety pickup the Cowboys made to allow Roy Williams to play closer to the line. The Bears defense once again had a short field to work with. And once again they stepped up big. Tommie Harris beat right guard Kyle Kosier off the snap and pounded Tony Romo for the sack, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Brain Urlacher. Urlacher was at the Cowboy 20 when he slipped the tackle of Julius Jones and pranced into the endzone for the Bears’ first defensive touchdown of the year. Score 7-7.
After a big punt return by Terrence Newman in the third quarter, the Cowboys struck again. Julius Jones set the table with a 26 yard run, and again Marion Barber finished it off by carrying a 14 yard screen pass for the touchdown. Then new Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips made a controversial attempt of a two point conversion to put the game out of reach for the Bears if they scored only a touchdown. Marion Barber was pulled down behind the line by Lance Briggs. Score 13-7 Cowboys.
The Bears offense continued to loose its way deep into the game, but the defense continued to shut down Dallas as Mark Anderson garnered 2 sacks. In the period from the third quarter to halfway through the fourth, Rex Grossman threw two more interceptions, one to veteran corner Anthony Henry and the other to defensive end Marcus Spears. Again the Bears shutdown the Cowboys O, and forced a punt with 0:40 left in the game.
Devin Hester took the punt at his own 15 yard line, made two men miss on a spin, cut right, then left across the 50 and got all the blocks he needed on his way to an 85 yard punt return touchdown. Score 13-13. All the Bears needed to do was to kick the extra point to win. Robbie Gould did just that, slotting it through the uprights and sending Soldier Field into a frenzy.

Bears travel for NFC North Battle
Coming into Detroit, at Ford Field, will be the visiting Chicago Bears. The Bears are 2-1 squeezing past the Dallas Cowboys last week. The Lions meanwhile, surprised the eagles last week in Philadelphia, 37-27. The Bars will need to avoid another devastating loss and get back on the way to the super bowl. The resurgent Lions will be looking to knock Chicago off the top of the NFC North. The Bears offense will need to be much better if Chicago has any chance of staying with Detroit’s explosive offense. The Lions have a very strong vertical passing game featuring Pro Bowler Roy Williams, Mike Furrey, who emerged to catch 98 passes in 2006, and the rookie sensation, Calvin Johnson. Quarterback Jon Kitna can throw the deep ball as well as any in the league, but needs to make better reads to avoid throwing into coverage. The Chicago Defense will play on Kitna’s weakness as they hope to deal with the difficult loss of solid corner Charles Tillman, who could have helped a lot against the Lions Receivers. With Kevin Jones still out, Tatum Bell will start for the Lions at running back, with struggling Cedric Benson his counterpart on the Bears team. A strong pass rush may take some of the sting out of Kitna’s passing, eve forcing some bad throws. That, and containing the Lions passing game, will be what the Chicago Bears will focus on. The game should be a true battle between the Lions’ high scoring passing game and the Bears’ shutdown defense.

Devin Hester takes the opening kickoff back 103 yards to put the Bears up
A Bitter NFC North matchup was on the cards today, with the Chicago Bears looking to improve to 3-1 on the season. They face a Lions team that is well upgraded from last year’s team. The Lions will have the comfort of playing in front of home fans in Ford Field tonight. The temperature inside the dome at Ford Field was around 77 at kickoff. The game is brought to you by Fox Sports.
The game started quickly as Chicago won the toss and elected to receive. Mark Bradley and Devin Hester were back to field the return. The ball was kicked right to Hester at the 2 yard line by Jason Hanson. Hester moved to the center of the field, waiting for blocks to develop. Hester crossed the 30, spotted his hole and cut left, then turned on the jets down the left sideline. He made Hanson miss with a juke and just like that, the Bears had the lead. Score 7-0 Bears.
The first lions drive was only a preview of what the game would hold. After trying to run on first and second down, being stuffed by Tommie Harris and Brian Urlacher for a net loss of seven yards the Lions came out with 5 wide. Even though the Bears were in a quarter defense, quarterback Jon Kitna found Calvin Johnson for a leaping, one handed spectacular catch, for a gain of 36, a first down and then some. With corner Nathan Vasher covering star wide receiver Roy Williams, Jon Kitna was playing with the rest of the Bears defensive backs, finding Mike Furrey for consecutive catches. When Vasher moved over to tae on Furrey for a play, Roy Williams and Kitna showed up corner, Ricky Manning Jr. by connecting for a 51 yard touchdown strike. Score 7-7.
The pace of the game as still set freakishly high, as on the next Bears possession, after a few solid runs by Cedric Benson, Rex Grossman hooked up with Bernard Berrian, who burnt Stanley Wilson for a 4 yard gain. Robbie Gould came into the game and booted a 51 yard field goal through the uprights. Score 10-7 Bears. The next drive, Adewale Ogunleye got solid pressure on Jon Kitna and Kitna threw the ball out for Roy Williams. Nathan Vasher went up and picked the pass off. The Bears offense struggled again, and was forced to punt. Brad Maynard got a lucky bounce on his punt, as it went out at the 1 yard line. With the Lions backed up against their own goal line, the Bears came with the house on a blitz, as Lance Briggs shot a gap and pummeled Kitna. The ball popped out and Tommie Harris recovered it in the endzone for a touchdown. Score 17-7 Bears.
Although Tatum Bell kept being handed the ball, the Bears allowed him no space to run. So the Lions turned to the air, and Kitna showed no signs of slowing up as he led 2 scoring drives, one to end the second quarter, and another to lead off the third, which was capped by Kitna finding Mike Furrey open from 5 yards out. Score 21-17 Lions.
Rex Grossman was walking around the field, seemingly lost as he could not captain the Bears offense to any touchdown drives in the first half. After another 3-and-out, bears coach Lovie Smith decided to pull Grossman, in favor of Brian Griese. Griese did not fare much better, as on the first drive, he fired left for tight end Desmond Clark, and was intercepted by Ernie Sims.
IN the fourth, Jon Kitna led another touchdown drive, this time it culminated in another Roy Williams catch, as he was crossing the back of the endzone. Calvin Johnson set up the score with a 43 yard reception a few plays earlier. Score 28-17 Lions. A small consolation prize as Brian Urlacher intercepted Kitna. Late in the fourth, Rex Grossman came back into the game, and found rookie tight end Greg Olsen on three straight passes, to set up a Robbie Gould 43 yard field goal. Score 28-20 Lions.

Bears travel to Lambeau
The 2-2 Chicago Bears will travel to the always hostile Lambeau Field for another NFC North rivalry game, this time against the Green Bay Packers. Bears coach Lovie Smith has decided to keep Rex Grossman as the starting quarterback for this weeks’ game. The Bears will look to add insult to injury on Green Bay’s 1-3 season, with a good offensive showing. That hasn’t happened yet this year. It will be hard to get the offense rolling against a solid Green Bay defense, led by fifth year linebacker Nick Barnett. The Packers cornerbacks may be arguably be one of the best tandems in the NFL, with Al Harris manning the left side and Charles Woodson the right. The defensive situation for Green Bay only got better, with the additions of defensive tackle Justin Harrell in this year’s draft, outside linebacker AJ Hawk the year before, and safety Nick Collins the year previous. The Bears will likely easily shut down the Packers running game, with Green Bay having no proven starter. Chicago will have to concentrate on containing pro bowl receiver Donald Driver and the rest of his receiving corps, to keep future hall of famer quarterback Brett Favre from running wild with the Bears secondary.

Tommie Harris bursts through the line for one of his three sacks tonight
In a bitter rivalry game in the NFC North, the Chicago Bears went on the road against a sliding Packers team. Chicago showed everyone which team was the class act tonight as they shut out the Packers in a game for the second straight year. Temperature was chilly but not too cold at kickoff, around 67 degrees. The weather was fine with no clouds in the sky, with kickoff at 8:15. This game was brought to you by NBC.
With Rex Grossman getting the start today, the offense began clicking. Rex looked much improved from the Rex Grossman that started the season, as he was connecting early. After pounding the ball between the tackles to reach midfield, Grossman fired to halfback Cedric Benson on a swing pass. Benson made some moves and the pass went for a gain of 26. As they neared the goal line, with no receivers open, Grossman took a sack that moved the down to third and long. Grossman’s pass on the very next play, deep right to Bernard Berrian was swatted down by Al Harris. Robbie Gould added the 3 points from 26 yard out. Score 3-0 Bears. The Bears front four was on song, as on Green Bay’s first drive, Brett Favre was sacked 3 times in a row, by Mark Anderson, Tommie Harris and Adewale Ogunleye respectively. Jon Ryan came in to punt but punted the ball out of bounds rather than kick it to Devin Hester.
On the next drive, the Bears offense, showed where it needs to be if the Bears are to return to the Superbowl. Grossman found Berrian on a crossing route for a gain of 31. Then Cedric Benson broke out a run over left guard, and then bounced off three tacklers. He trucked the safety and would not be caught on his way to a 54 yard touchdown run. Score 10-0 Bears. With the Packers having rushed for minus yards in the first quarter, te middle of the second was a rare bright spot, as Favre found Donald Driver for a 21 yard catch. The very next play, he was picked off by Charles Tillman, and the corner returned it to the Green Bay 31. As the Bears offense could not get anything started, Robbie Gould hit through a 51 yard field goal. Score 13-0 Bears.
On the next two Green Bay drives, they garnered lost yardage. On those two defensive stands, Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs recorded tackles for loss, and Mark Anderson, Darwin Walker and Tommie Harris all recorded sacks, with Harris getting two. Devin Hester was generating good field position for the offense on his returns, averaging 21 yards per return. As Jon Ryan punted for the eighth time, this time late in the third quarter, Hester struck again. After beating the three gunners on the play, he sped left, then cut back to the middle of the field, then to the endzone. Score 20-0 Bears.
In the middle of the fourth, the game for Green Bay reached an all time low, as Brett Favre forced the ball into coverage, and it was bobbled, then intercepted by a leaping Nathan Vasher. Vasher got some blocks and was across midfield, spun of a tackler and juked two more, and was still on his feet while trying to be dragged down from behind by Favre, who was trying to recover from his mistake, but Vasher high stepped his way to the endzone, showing who was top dog to all the fans in Lambeau. Score 27-0 Bears. With 24 seconds to play in the game, Robbie Gould booted another field goal, this one from 42 yards to seal the win and a dominant shutout for Chicago. Score 30-0 Bears.

Bears hope to end Vikings’ unbeaten streak
The Chicago Bears will look to make their winning streak 2, as they return home to Soldier Field. They play the 4-0 Minnesota Vikings, a hated companion in the NFC North. The quarterbacks of both teams are off to a shaky start this year, although Rex Grossman did show improvement last week vs. the Packers. Tarvaris Jackson has thrown 10 interceptions already this season, but continues t start because the Vikings want him to develop and the fact that they have no reliable backup are both contributors. He also does not have the most explosive or reliable receiving corps to work with. The game will feature maybe the two best run defenses in the NFL, with Kevin and Pat Williams clogging the middle for the Vikings and Tommie Harris and Darwin Walker doing the same for the Bears. With both passing attacks struggling to get their teams on the board, the focus in the game will be a defensive grind out, running and stopping the run. Vikings rookie running back Adrian Peterson will look to impress even further, as he has 412 yards rushing on the season. If any team can successfully run the ball early, it will take some pressure off the quarterback, so they might be able to make some throws.

Devin Hester dives into the endzone for the only touchdown of the game
The Chicago Bears were always going to face a tough test at Soldier Field, as they faced the undefeated Minnesota Vikings in yet another FC North divisional battle. The Bears prevailed in this one, in a game where one touchdown was scored, and that was in special teams. Temperature was cold at 60 degrees, but the weather was only a little cloudy, with kickoff at 1:00pm. The game comes to you from FOX Sports.
There was an extraordinary start to the game as both starting quarterbacks cut short their team’s respective first drives by throwing interceptions. Tarvaris Jackson gifted a pick to Hunter Hillenmeyer, while Rex Grossman threw his interception corner Antoine Winfield. Minnesota then began a slow charge downfield, as they tried to run the bal with Chester Taylor He was not allowed anywhere to go and often was bottled up in the backfield. There were numerous crossing routes and screens on the drive, allowing Tarvaris Jackson to dump the ball off and the receiver do the rest. The Vikings were moving the ball well with Adrian Peterson until they brought Chester Taylor back into the game, and reminiscent of many Bears drives, it stalled and they settled for a Ryan Longwell 45 yard field goal. Score 3-0 Vikings.
With the inside running lanes well and truly by mammoth defensive tackles Pat and Kevin Williams, Cedric Benson and the Bears ground game turned to a lot of stretches and counters, to try and turn the corner and get to the outside. They had success for a short time, but Rex Grossman inability to be a weapon with his throws meant that a lot of times, Benson was facing eight or even nine man fronts. The Bears did have enough success to come into field goal range, and Robbie Gould hit through a 50 yarder to tie the game up. Score 3-3. As the Vikings were at their own 45 yard line, a run went left and all the offensive linemen were blocking the O line, Chester Taylor was all on his own. He took on Lance Briggs, and Briggs pummeled him with a crushing, headhunting hit, which stripped the ball. Briggs jumped on it and the Bears offense had, once again, a short field to work with. And, once again, the Bears offense was smothered and had to settle for less than 6 points. Robbie Gould smashed the ball from 42 out, it hit the left upright, then the crossbar, but it went over. Score 6-3 Bears.
In the middle of the second quarter, as the Vikings moved upfield, Minnesota rookie running back Adrian Peterson showed why he was the seventh overall pick this offseason, as he broke loose for the longest run against the Bears defense all season, 50 yards down to the 17 yard line. The next three plays were a key stand for the Bears. On first and 10, from the 17, Jackson dropped back, scrambled around in the pocket and was chased down and sacked form behind by Mark Anderson. On second and 14 from the 21, the handoff went to Chester Taylor, to the left side again, and once again he was stopped for a loss by Lance Briggs. On third and 16 from the 23 the Vikings came out with 5 wide. Jackson fired to Troy Williamson but Charles Tillman stepped in front of the pass. He batted the ball but could not hold onto the interception that would have kept the Chicago lead intact. Instead, Ryan Longwell stepped in and made a 36 yard field goal to tie the game. Score 6-6.
Halftime came as a welcome break for both defenses, which had been seeing considerable playing time because both offenses were struggling mightily. At the half Lance Briggs had already amassed 10 tackles, with three for loss and a forced fumble. Another alarming stat was that both teams had less then 150 yards of total offense at the half, with the Vikings sporting 62 rush yards and the Bears 49. At the start of the third, the scoring stopped and the punting started, with Chris Kluwe and Brad Maynard seeing action in each of their team’s first two drives of the new half. Fans of offensive shootouts would have left very early in this game, as the offenses of both teams very rarely if at all got out of their own halves after the second quarter.
With return men Mewelde Moore for Minnesota and Devin Hester for Chicago, were getting worked out and recorded good amounts of yardage for their respective teams. But their was one difference. After another three and out for the Bears, Maynard sent a long, high drive back to the Vikings 32. Moore fielded it and as he made for the left sideline, he was knocked hard by Rashied Davis. Moore had suffered a concussion and would not return to the game. As the Chicago offense took over, they marched down the field, with a drive punctuated by some tough inside running by Benson to help him eclipse the 100 yard mark on the ground, a season high against a sturdy Vikings D. At the start of the fourth quarter, Chris Kluwe punted the ball to Devin Hester. Two words describe Kluwe’s actions – Big Mistake. Hester continued his scintillating start to the season, with another great play, this time a 62 yard punt return for a touchdown where he made numerous Vikings defenders look silly and ended the play by diving over the left pylon into the endzone. His touchdown came once again in the clutch, as this time the points from Hester’s return were the eventual go ahead points of the game. Score 13-6 Bears.
Late in the fourth quarter, Lance Briggs continued his hot game when he got his 17th tackle and hid first sack, which helped stall a key Vikings charge. Defensive tackle Tommie Harris continued his great start to the season, recording another sack to go with 5 tackles and 2 for loss. As Ryan Longwell added the Vikings’ last points of the game on a 39 yard field goal, the Bears could rejoice. Score 13-9 Bears. The Chicago offense ran out the clock by kneeling the ball and the win was complete, and the Bears have won 2 in a row.

Bears on road again, this time to Philly
The Chicago Bears will be on the road this week, when they travel to Lincoln Financial Field, home of the 2-3 Philadelphia Eagles. With the Bears at 4-2 and hoping to extend their winning streak to 3 games, they will face a team that had its bye week in week 5, and then lost to the New York Jets the week after. This is an important game for both teams, for the Eagles because they need to get their season back on the right track, and for the Bears as they look to move atop the NFC North with a win. With a very strong Eagles secondary and a healthy pass rush, Cedric Benson will figure to get a lot of work, as the Bears pound the rock to make space for the passing game. The Eagles run defense is dismal so far this season, with the team allowing 135 yards on the ground every game. This collapse may have been aided by the release of team leader and inspirational middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter. With Donavan McNabb at quarterback for the Eagles, the Bears defense will call a lot of contain coverages, with defensive ends Mark Anderson and Adewale Ogunleye focusing on keeping the fleet footed McNabb in the pocket. A lot of focus will need to be paid to electrifying and versatile Philadelphia tailback, Brian Westbrook, who makes a big impact in the passing game as well as the run. Lastly, one threat not to be overlooked by the Bears is McNabb’s safety valve, tight end LJ Smith, who will need to be contained if the Bears will have any chance of winning this game

Brian Dawkins celebrates his interception return for a touchdown
The Philadelphia Eagles are back to .500 now, as they showed tremendous determination to prevail against an NFC rival, the Chicago Bears. The Eagles just did not give up and it showed, as they beat the Bears. The mercury was showing 68 degrees at kickoff, around 4:15 pm, with the game being brought to you by FOX Sports.
The Philadelphia Eagles won the coin toss and elected to receive. Former Olympic skier Jeremy Bloom carried the ball to the 41, he nearly broke it all the way. The start of the drive was successful for Philadelphia, when Brian Westbrook took a swing pass 17 yards for the first down after facing third and long. Donavan McNabb was hot early, he connected on four straight passes at one point. The Eagles were now in the redzone, threatening to score. One second and 12, Mark Anderson caught McNabb trying to escape the pocket, and sacked him for a loss of 4 yards. McNabb’s pass to Reggie Brown fell incomplete in the endzone, after nearly being intercepted. David Akers did the honors and the Eagles were up early. Score 3-0 Eagles.
The Bears came out running, with Cedric Benson ripping off huge gains of 21, 34 and 19 to move the Bears into scoring range before the Eagles’ defense had settled in. He then ran it in from 6 yards out for a rare offensive Bears touchdown. Score 7-3 Bears. Eagles back Brian Westbrook threatened but never really got going against the good Bears run defense, he had cases of happy feet, trying to do too much by himself with his moves and was not getting it done. Hs involvement in the passing game was another matter, and the Eagles were using mismatches against linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer to exploit huge holes in the defense. The Eagles drive was eventually stalled by good Bears defense but Philadelphia did not go easily. They were threatening again and the only thing stopping their success was a good Bears pass rush, with tackles Tommie Harris and Darwin Walker pushing the pocket consistently, forcing McNabb to get the ball off early, often before his receivers were properly open, which resulted in shorter gains. Rex Grossman and his pass catchers were using long and crossing routes, to stop the eagles from stacking the line, which in turn gave Cedric Benson tremendous running room to work with. With Benson eating up yardage, the Bears thundered into field goal range. The key play by the Eagles that prevented 6 was on third and 2, when the Bears called a toss. For the first time in the game, Benson was brought down for a loss, and it was by Takeo Spikes. Robbie Gould has become a familiar sight for Bears fans, recuing the offense with 3 points. He did not disappoint this time, kicking through a 39 yard field goal. Score 10-3 Bears.
On the ensuing Chicago kickoff, Eagles return man Bethel Johnson muffed the ball in his own endzone, and was tackled at the 4 as he ran the ball out, narrowly avoiding a safety. After failed runs on first and second downs, the Eagles came out with 4 wide, shotgun formation, on third and 13 to go. Dropping back into his own endzone, McNabb fired short left, the ball was caught by Brian Westbrook. He got good blocks on the screen and cut to the middle of the field. He made Adam Archuleta look like a statue with a stunning juke, then turned on the jets and was gone, demonstrating his extreme versatility. A 99 yard screen pass was an exciting way for the Eagles to score their first touchdown of the game and evened up the score. Score 10-10.
Nearing the end of the first half, as Rex Grossman handed the ball off once again, Benson made it into the secondary and was smashed by safety Brian Dawkins. This proved to be a key play, as it knocked Benson from the action for a quarter with a bruised sternum. With Rex Grossman in the backfield with no proven runner, the Eagles stacked up against the pass. On first down, Grossman was sacked by Jevon Kearse, just a sign of things to come. With less than a minute left in the half on third and long, Rex threw the ball up, it was picked off by Brian Dawkins and the score remained tied through halftime.
As the Bears received the ball to start the second half, Hester gave Chicago good field position to work with when he retuned the ball to the Bear 42 yard line. Chicago moved the ball across midfield with to strong runs from backup halfback Adrian Peterson. That is when the problems started. Rex Grossman dropped back in the pocket and as he focused on Bernard Berrian downfield, he was dropped for the second time in the game by “The Freak”, a now healthy Jevon Kearse. On third and long at midfield Grossman was picked off by safety Brian Dawkins and he returned the ball to the Chicago 31 yard line. The Bears defense showed good strength at the point of attack and limited the Eagles to a David Akers score 13-10 Eagles. Akers sent the kickoff back to the Bears and out of bounds, Rex Grossman and the offense setting up shop at the 20 after the touchback. When the Bears number 8 dropped to pass, a strong sense of Déjà Vu was achieved as Grossman fired a laser over the middle, that was tipped by Takeo Spikes and intercepted by Brian Dawkins again, he returned the ball to the house, a 46 yard interception return for a touchdown to give the Eagles a growing lead. Score 20-10 Eagles.
The fourth quarter, about 1:12 after the break, welcomed the return of red hot Cedric Benson to the field of play. He showed no lingering signs of injury carrying on where he left off. Benson broke a tackle in the backfield on an inside run for a 17 yard gain. Again and again the Bears ran the ball, with the Eagles seemingly helpless against Benson’s punishing running style. With Chicago moving into scoring range, a very questionable decision was made by the coach. Lovie Smith thought that going to the air would provide a chance to score more quickly. Grossman lined up in the shotgun with Benson to his right. As Grossman snapped the ball, Benson went out on his route and middle linebacker Omar Gaither shot an inside gap to get Grossman for the sack. A fumble occurred as Grossman fell and was recovered by Fred Miller for a loss of 10 yards. The Bears had to elect to kick again, Robbie Gould netting the points form 36 yards out to pull the Bears back within a touchdown. Score 20-13 Eagles.
The game was set for a fairy tale finish when a successful onside kick was converted, the Bears had the ball with 2:05 left to play. But Bears fans were left heartbroken again when Grossman lofted a Hail Mary on fourth and 15 at midfield, which fell into the hands of corner, Lito Sheppard. Philadelphia tried to run out the clock with 1:30 left by running the ball, but had to turn to short passes because of the lack of running room. A small consolation prize was secured when David Akers’ field goal attempt was blocked by Alex Brown, but the Bears were unable to capitalize, losing a nail biter.

Bears gather for grudge match
Coming off of a loss away to the Eagles, the Chicago Bears will be keen to return to the friendly confines of soldier field, to regroup and attack a tough Lions team. The Lions are coming off of a rout loss to Tampa Bay, and Cedric Benson will hope to see the same holes that Cadillac Williams saw when he rushed for 162 yards against the Lions defense only a week ago. Detroit defensive tackles Cory Redding and Shaun Rogers will need to up their game and make plays, forcing streaky Rex Grossman to turn to the air. The Bears will have the confidence of this time having corner Charles Tillman available and starting the game, to try and avoid the domination through the air that Jon Kitna handed the Bears earlier in the season. Grossman and the Bears offense will need to generate more than just field goals in what figures to be a high scoring game.

Brian Urlacher celebrates with Lance Briggs after forcing a fumble in the game
Coming into today’s game, revenge was thick in the air when the Chicago Bears took on the Detroit Lions looking to avenge the early in the season defeat. The Bears moved on to bigger and better things and a 5-3 record, while the motor city cats lost for the second straight week in disappointing fashion, now 3-4. Temperature was around 65 at kickoff, at 1:00 pm brought to you by FOX Sports.
The start of the game was something of a rude shock for the Bears. They got a taste of their own medicine. Lions return man Eddie Drummond took the ball a yard deep in his endzone and preceded to break away from the coverage team en route to a kickoff return for a touchdown. Score 7-0 Lions. No more scoring came until midway through the second quarter, when Brian Urlacher showed his playmaking ability. It was a Lions drive, 2nd and 2 to go at the Chicago 41 yard line. Play action was called and when Jon Kitna turned to throw, all he could see was Urlacher bearing down on him for the sack. Kitna could not hold onto the ball and Tommie Harris was the first to pounce on it. As Harris rumbled down the field, the convoy surrounding him got bigger, nothing was going to stop the big man. He took it all the way for the score and the Bears were on the board. Score 7-7.
Cedric Benson was running the ball well but he could not handle all the plays, and Rex Grossman did do some passing in the game. With the game clock showing 3:51 left in the first half, Grossman looked for and found a streaking Bernard Berrian for a 69 yard bomb. Score 14-7 Bears. The Chicago dominance continued before the break, when Kitna forced the ball into double coverage on star receiver Roy Williams, the ball was picked off by Hunter Hillenmeyer. The strong side ‘backer found the endzone for the first time this year, adding to the Bears lead. Score 21-7 Bears.
The start of the second half came and there was no slowing down the Bears. Devin Hester returned the ballot the Chicago 45, then Benson took over on a HB Counter Weak, spinning off of a tackler and bursting loose for a 36 yard gain. But the Lions stepped up big in the redzone, Shaun Rogers clogging the middle for two key plays, getting Benson for runs of nothing and -2. With Grossman coming to throw on third and 12, his pass to Greg Olsen fell incomplete. Robbie Gould had to kick another field goal and the Bears had an even wider lead. Score 24-7 Bears. On the next Lions possession, Tommie Harris returned the favor to his teammates, by showing good sideline to sideline pursuit on a halfback toss and popping the ball out of Kevin Jones’ grasp. Nathan Vasher picked it up, broke two tackles and ran it back to the barn, a 72 yard defensive touchdown. Score 31-7 Bears.
As the third quarter drew to a close, Detroit came out looking to get back into the game. Forcing the Bears into nickel and dime packages on first downs because four wide receivers were being used. Rookie sensation Calvin Johnson caught two balls on consecutive plays to move the chains twice for the Lions and keep their drive moving. Jon Kitna then turned to pro bowl receiver Roy Williams for a catch that moved the ball down to the Chicago 30 yard line. But once again in the game, miscues and mistakes did nothing to help the Lions to get back into the game. First, right tackle George Foster was slapped with a false start penalty. Then, forced into a long yardage situation, Kitna turned to his most dependable target, Roy Williams, and fired him the ball. But the defenders jumped his route. Williams was thumped by nickel back Ricky Williams as he went up for the ball, which was picked off by Nathan Vasher. To go along with his two turnovers in the game, Vasher also ran back his interception 51 yards to the Detroit 19.
With the Ball at the 19 and the endzone well within reach, Rex Grossman and the offense came onto the field with 2:11 remaining in the fourth. Cedric Benson ran the ball for a first down inside the ten, at about the seven yard line. After two incompletions, Grossman found Greg Olsen on the fade route, scoring to give the Bears an insurmountable lead with less than two minutes left in the game. Score 38-7 Bears. The Lions had one last chance to salvage some pride with a last minute drive, but were stifled by a stingy Bears defense once again, and the score remained the same until the final whistle.

Bears to go out west after bye
Having had a good rest in week 9 with a bye, and sporting a 5-3 record, the Chicago Bears will have to face the 2 and 6 Oakland Raiders out west in the McAfee Coliseum. The Raiders had a poor showing in week 9 against the Texans, losing 24-3, while the Bears entered the bye week hot, after beating the Detroit Lions. This week heralds the addition of a dangerous weapon to the Bears offense, with the electric Devin Hester adding his skillset to the offense. He will make stretching the field a regular occurrence, as he lines up as the teams third receiver. His speed will hopefully open things up underneath and in the running game as the Bears take on a solid, if not spectacular Raiders defense, led by middle linebacker Kirk Morrison. Rookie first overall pick JaMarcus Russell will not get the start against the Bears, the man left to absorb the Chicago pressure will be a recuperated Duante Cullpepper. An interesting battle should occur when the Raiders ground game, good to say the least, matches up against the ferocious Bears defense. Running the ball and stopping the run will be key for both teams if they wish to prevail in this contest.

Bears roll over struggling Raiders

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa265/rensmacneill/KirkMorrison1.jpg
Kirk Morrison was a force to be reckoned with all game long
With the Oakland Raiders struggling of late, the Chicago Bears were hoping to ‘hop on the bandwagon’. They did so, with a convincing win, but it was not without some scares. The Bears moved on to 6-3 and the Raiders are now languishing at 2-7 despite their fifth ranked defense. Temperature reached around 8 degrees, with kickoff at 4:15 pm, brought to you once again by FOX Sports.
With the Raiders electing to receive, Robbie Gould sent the kick out of the endzone. The Raiders started the game with a run up the middle, but Tommie Harris stopped LaMont Jordan tow yards behind the line of scrimmage. Quarterback Duante Cullpepper then dropped back to pass, and found Ronald Curry for a five yard gain. Having been forced to punt, both defenses dominated the rest of the first quarter.
On a drive with 7:52 left in the second quarter, Cedric Benson continued his success this season, this time against a good rush defense, trucking Stuart Sweigart on a run up the middle and took it 28 yards, dragging Nnamdi Asomugha into the endzone for the first score of the game. Score 7-0 Bears. The Bears defense once again shut down the Raiders offense, the game momentum was quickly turning to Chicago. All that changed when Rex Grossman was intercepted by Michael Huff, who brought the ball back to the Chicago 31. After another strong defensive showing, Sebastian Janikowski got the Raiders on the board right before the half. Score 7-3 Bears. The score remained the same till the break.
Devin Hester set the Bears up with good field position but the drive did not last long. With the ball at the Bears 49, Chicago came on to the field looking to surprise the Raiders defense. They did just that as Hester, in the slot, caught a nice pass from Grossman for a gain of 32. On the next play, Grossman rolled right on a designed quarterback keeper, he got the first down, but as he did so, he was crushed by Michael Huff and lost the football. But funnily enough the Bears got it right back, when Cullpepper was picked off by a skying Nathan Vasher.
In the fourth quarter the Bears opened the game up. It began with a Cedric Benson 46 yard touchdown run, only the second rushing TD allowed by the raiders defense all year and the longest one this season. Score 14-3 Bears. On another drive deep in Raiders territory, made possible by the Bears defense forcing yet another three and out, Robbie Gould added three more to the lead with 2:54 to go in the ballgame. Score 17-3 Bears But as Gould kicked off, Raiders return man Johnny Lee Higgins returned the ball past midfield and was only just caught by a shoestring tackle. Oakland moved the ball well through the air, punctuated by Jerry Porter grabs despite being double teamed on to key third downs. When it mattered most though, the Raiders could not pull through and time expired as a Duante Cullpepper pass fell incomplete in the endzone, sealing the Chicago victory

Bears on road at Qwest
The 6 and 3 Chicago Bears will visit the 5-4 Seattle Seahawks at Qwest field, Washington. The Seahawks had a big win in overtime against the 49ers at home, winning out by a Josh Brown field goal, 31-28. With the bears looking great on defense and with the offense improving, they look as though they could get to the Superbowl once again. Seattle has bad memories of losing to the Bears 27-24 in last year’s playoffs at Qwest, and player are vowing to not let it happen again. Each team has a great linebacking unit, with middle ‘backers Brian Urlacher and Lofa Tatupu leading their respective defenses. Rex Grossman will need to keep his mistakes to a minimum, his turnovers have cost Chicago dearly this season. The Bears will also need to address their need to stop matt Hasselbeck and the Seahawks passing game, without letting running back Shaun Alexander run wild. The success of Hasselbeck and Grossman will go a long way to determining which team comes away from this contest with a W.

Robbie Gould sends through the game winning field goal
Seattle Seahawks fans may have been reminded of the playoffs last year as today the Seahawks again lost to the Chicago Bears in overtime, and again by a field goal. The game was kicking contest between Chicago’s Robbie Gould and Seattle’s Josh Brown, two of the best kickers in the game. The Bears are now 7-3 and looking good, but the Seahawks, with another loss, are 5-5. Kickoff was at 8:15, temperature reached 85 and the game was brought to you by FOX Sports.
After kicking off the game, Chicago had some early trouble defending Deion branch, Matt Hasselbeck found his star receiver 4 times on the opening drive for 71 yards. But the Seattle ground game was struggling and losses forced them into fourth and goal from the 18. Josh Brown sent through the kick and the scoring was underway. Score 3-0 Seahawks. The Chicago offense looked in sync, with Cedric Benson running well and Bernard Berrian looking like a go to receiver. The drive was nearly capped by a Devin Hester 31 yard TD catch, but he was ruled out of bounds at the back of the endzone, forcing Robbie Gould to tack on three. Score 3-3.
Both defenses were playing well early and it was not until late in the second quarter, with 1:59 to go in the half that things got exciting. After getting sacked by Patrick Kerney on second down, Grossman handed off to Cedric Benson on third and long, and Cedric went to work. He trucked 2 smaller defenders and got the first down and more on a 19 yard scamper. Chicago moved the ball steadily down the field, eating up game clock, until thy made it to the 26 yard line of Seattle, with 46 seconds left in the half. The clock was stopped when the Bears called a timeout and Gold once again stepped through the ball and added another field goal. Score 6-3 Bears. Gould then kicked off end Nate Burleson returned it to the Seattle 41. Matt Hasselbeck then heaved a pass deep into the endzone, but it was picked off by backup safety Brandon McGowan to end the half.
Devin Hester returned the second half kickoff to midfield and that set up the first touchdown of the game, a beautiful deep pass by Grossman as he found Bernard Berrian , and Berrian burnt Marcus Trufant for a 50 yard TD strike to put the Bears up by more. Score 13-3 Bears. Once again Deion Branch looked good on Seattle’s drive, but their endzone hopes were squashed again when, on consecutive plays, Hasselbeck was sacked, the first time by Mark Anderson and the second time by Tommie Harris. That sack placed Harris with 2 for the game, another great performance for him. The Seattle season went from bad to worse as Shaun Alexander was knocked form the game by Lance Briggs, Alexander suffered a broken kneecap and will be out for 4 weeks. Josh Brown did kick the field goal though. Score 13-6 Bears.
The fourth quarter started with a bang, when Hasselbeck found DJ Hackett wide open for a 26 yard gain. This time though the ‘Hawks found the endzone, with Deion branch beating Charles Tillman and hooking up with Hasselbeck for a 36 yard score to even the game in the clutch. Score 13-13. Robbie Gould added another field goal to give the Bears the edge with less than 2 minutes left in the game. Score 16-13 Bears. But the pass defense was not good enough against Hasselbeck and he moved the ball into FG range. Josh Brown gave his team they needed and he tied the game with 5 seconds to go. Score 16-16.
This forced the game to overtime and the Bears won the toss and received. The kick as fielded by Devin Hester and returned to the Chicago 46. Cedric Benson then pounded the ball to move the ball to the Seattle 31. Robbie Gould came in once again, this time winning the game for the Chicago Bears with a great kick. Broncos desperate for win at Soldier
With a record of 7-3, the Chicago Bears will need to hold strong against the push of a desperate team when the 3-7 Denver Broncos come to Soldier Field. Having lost to Tennessee 21-7 on Monday Night Football last week, the Broncos will try to rescue a bad season when they come to the windy city. Denver’s biggest problem is their inability to stop the run, even though they can crowd the line as they possess the best cornerback tandem in the league, led by the elite Champ Bailey and with two time pro bowler Dre Bly. If the Bears come away with a win, an 8-3 record and first place in the NFC North, the Broncos would be looking at being third in the AFC West, only ahead of the Raiders, with no hope of making the playoffs with a 3-8 record. Rex Grossman will have a tough time throwing the football, making Cedric Benson’s success against a porous run D all the more important. Rookie tight end Greg Olsen will need to seal lanes for Benson to run through against middle linebacker DJ Williams. The Bears will need to stop Javon Walker’s success and Jay Cutler throwing the ball well if they will come away with this one.

Devin Hester breaks his long touchdown run
The lowly Denver Broncos came to tow looking for a much needed win in Chicago, but left with nothing at all. The Bears played a hardnosed brand of football, limiting the Broncos offense to 142 total yards. On to 8-3 go the Bears, now comfortable ahead of the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North by 3 ½ games, and the Broncos are now tied for last in the AFC West. Kickoff was at 1:00pm with temperature reaching 65 degrees in Soldier Field. The game is brought to you by CBS.
Chicago kicked the game off and promptly forced a three and out, with Denver punting from its own 24. Devin Hester was stopped on the return for his shortest gain of the year, 2 yards. Cedric Benson had a lot of holes to run through early and the Bears moved the ball at ease. This good work was all thrown away however, when Rex Grossman was picked off by Champ Bailey at the Denver 21 yard line. Late in the first quarter, the Bears drew first blood, when Robbie Gould kicked a season high, amazing, long field goal from 61 yards away. Score 3-0 Bears.
The score remained the same throughout the rest of the first quarter, until with 7 minutes left in the half, Devin Hester fielded another punt in his endzone. He brought it out to the 38, and the offense took over. But once again Grossman did his best to give it all away, throwing the ball right to Bailey for the second time in the ballgame, and this time, Bailey took it to the house, using his elite speed. Score 7-3 Broncos. When Chicago got the ball back, Benson started at left guard, and made an 8 yard gain out of nothing, after he got hit twice in the backfield and managed to escape. With time running out in the half, Grossman wanted Bernard Berrian deep, and number 80 for the Bears caught the ball, but for a gain of 21, and time ran out in the half.
With the Broncos holding onto their lead with desperate ferocity, Chicago began to experiment. On first down at the 20, Grossman and the Bears offense came out onto the field with 5 receivers split out, and when Grossman’s pass to Muhsin Muhammad fell incomplete, even stranger things began to happen. Devin Hester came out at tailback. On Hester’s first run, a 3 yard gainer, he was stopped up the middle by DJ Williams. But on the very next play, Hester did what he does best, making people look silly. Hester took a misdirection counter to the house for a 75 yard score and just like that the electric Hester had given the Bears the lead. Score 10-7 Bears.
On to the fourth and early on the Broncos equalized, with a 46 yard field goal from Jason Elam. The Broncos came out looking to run out the clock but Mark Anderson sought out Jay Cutler on a QB keeper and jarred the ball loose, then promptly took it back for a score for his first touchdown of the year. Score 17-10 Bears. The situation late in the game only got worse for the Broncos, when they could stop Cedric Benson, the halfback racked up 90 yards on the ground in the fourth quarter alone. When they did get the ball back, with 1:05 to go in the game, Cutler looked for Brandon Marshall deep, but he was picked off to seal the game by Nathan Vasher, and the Bears moved on with the win.

Bears want to keep rolling at home
The Chicago Bears are 8-3 at the moment and are going to be facing the 6-5 New York Giants who could use a win on the road. Cedric Benson has looked so far this year, carrying the Bears at times. He will be facing a surprisingly tight knit group in the Giants defense, who rank 9th overall in total defense. Rookie Aaron Ross already has 5 picks this year and has been a sparkplug. Rex Grossman and his o-line will need to be in sync. otherwise New York’s outstanding pass rush, led by Osi Umenyiora. Chicago will also need to keep its eyes open on defense, with shutting down Plaxico Burress, while the safeties, as well as Brian Urlacher, will need to keep tabs on Jeremy Shockey, Eli Manning’s pressure release valve. The Chicago defense will look to pressure Manning early and often, to stop him from getting into a rhythm. Chicago will need to be on its toes to avoid a potential upset, and take control of the NFC race.

Shockey after one of catches today.
The New York Giants came to Soldier Field determined not to let the game slip away early and they made sure they did not do that, holding the Bears offense to no points in the first quarter and scraping away with a win, as Chicago’s missed opportunities were a big factor in the loss. The Bears are now 8-4 and their division lead has been cut to a sole game. Kickoff was at 4:15pm, with skies clear and temperature at 79 on Chicago. The game is brought to you by FOX Sports once again.
The visiting Giants won the toss and made an impact early, with rookie sensation Aaron Ross returning the ball past midfield. Brandon Jacobs just could not find any room at all and on third and 17, Eli Manning’s pass deep left was broken up. Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes came in and missed a 43 yarder. The Bears offense took over but their drive was a short one, having been sacked on second down and having his third down pass fall incomplete after Bernard Berrian was smoked by Aaron Ross, the Bears punted the ball away to end the first quarter of play.
After forcing a three and out by the Giants, the Bears got set to return it. Devin Hester took the punt at his own 15, and beat the special teams gunner for the Giants with a fancy spin and hop move. He used his lights out speed down the sideline, and once again Hester had given the Bears the lift they needed. Score 7-0 Bears. The Giants were pressing and eager to respond to the Bears score, Jeremy Shockey was open all over the place, helping the Giants down the field. The defense eventually forced the Giants to punt, but surprise, surprise, they kicked it away from the dangerous Hester. That signaled the end of the half.
Early in the third quarter, Mark Anderson sacked Eli Manning twice in a row, but on third and a mile, Manning found Plaxico Burress to move the chains. Then later on that drive, Anderson and Adewale Ogunleye combined for three sacks on three downs, forcing the Giants to kick. The 42 yard field goal was this time good from Tynes and the Giants came back to life. Score 7-3 Bears. The Chicago offense struggled highly and would only score a field goal late in the third quarter. Score 10-3 Bears. But the Bears defense dominated until the fourth quarter, with the Giants punting 4 times, all of them away from Devin Hester.
In the last quarter of the game, things started to go south for the Bears, but not quickly. The first turning point was when a Brad Maynard punt was snuffed out and blocked by the Giants, they got the ball deep in Bears territory. Tommie Harris then made another great play on the season, forcing the ball loose from Eli Manning’s hands on a sack, then the ball was recovered by Mark Anderson. Chicago drove the length of the field, but on first and goal, Cedric Benson coughed up the ball it was recovered by Antonio Pierce. . The Giants gave the ball to the Bears but when the Bears punted, with 0:51 left in the game, all they needed was an easy defensive stop. Not so fast, Manning found Plaxico Burress again, and he stepped through a Mike Brown tackle and would not be caught, despite Nathan Vasher’s best efforts. Score 10-9 Bears. All the Bears needed to do now was stop the two point conversion and the win would be theirs. But Eli Manning got Jeremy Shockey for the conversion and a thrilling Giants win. Score 11-10 Giants.

Bears hope to get back on track
The Chicago Bears will need to put last week’s disappointing loss to the New York Giants behind them and get back on track Thursday, when they travel to the nation’s capital to take on the Washington Redskins. Rex Grossman will look to pick apart a young but talented Redskins secondary, to make up for Cedric Benson’s predicted struggles against a surprisingly good Redskins run defense. Washington needs this win to get back to .500 and Chicago, if they win, will be 9-4 and be in a good position to make the playoffs. Jason Campbell will also have to step up his game against an ordinary Bears secondary, he will need to make use of deep threat Santana Moss and elite tight end Chris Cooley. Someone who will not have a small impact on the Redskins success will be running back Clinton Portis and backfield mate Ladell Betts. Chicago will use it’s league best run defense to bottle up that dynamic duo. The Bears will also need to solve their offensive woes and help out the defense by scoring more than 10 points in order to win this game.

Portis on the way to his TD.
Off went the Chicago Bears to the nation’s capital, and they made a big impact, blowing out the Washington Redskins 36-14. Rex Grossman had one of his finer performances of the year, leading the Bears to a commanding win. Robbie Gould also played a big part, booting five field goals in the triumph. Kickoff was at 8:15, temperatures at 69 degrees and the game is brought to you by The NFL Network.
The Chicago offense got going early, with Cedric Benson driving the offensive unit down the field and Robbie Gould capped off the drive with a 31 yard field goal. Score 3-0 Bears. The Redskins did not start well, when Tommie Harris sacked Jason Campbell for a seven yard loss on the very first play of the Washington drive. Subsequently, the Redskins punted, and the only other score in the first quarter was courtesy of Robbie Gould for the second time in the game, this time a field goal from 49 yards out. Score 6-0 Bears.
The second quarter started with little change in the game, both teams were playing superb defense, which was until Clinton Portis broke a 32 yard touchdown run to give the Redskins the lead. Score 7-6 Redskins. With the Bears unable to respond immediately, the ‘Skins took over and marched down the field , with Santana Moss and Chris Cooley each having key catches on third downs. When Shaun Suisham lined up to put through a field goal from the 39 yards out, the Bears special teams had not bowed out, and Brendon Ayanbedajo blocked the kick, and recovered it, rounding off a great play.
Devin Hester returned the second half kickoff back to the Chicago 32 from his own endzone, and the offense took over. Rex Grossman then got Greg Olsen wide open off of a delay route for a nice gain of 29. Rex then bombed the ball deep on the very next play to Bernard Berrian. Berrian broke Carlos Roger’s tackle for the score. Score 13-7 Bears. Washington responded instantly, as they drove the length of the field, with Jason Campbell showing good poise in the pocket to find tight end Chris Cooley for a beautiful touchdown strike. Score 14-13 Redskins. The scoring did not stop there, with Robbie Gould adding two more field goals before the last quarter of play. Score 19-14 Bears.
Grossman came out firing after the Chicago defense recovered a fumble forced by Mike Brown. He found his receivers with precision all drive long, hefting it to Greg Olsen for the TD. Score 26-14 Bears. Jason Campbell was intercepted on consecutive drives by Nathan Vasher, one of which set up another Robbie Gould field goal. Score 29-24 Bears. The Redskins showed signs of life but ultimately Campbell’s mistakes cost them, he was intercepted twice more before the game ended, one by Brian Urlacher and another by Charles Tillman. Rex Grossman then closed out the game by hitting Greg Olsen once again for the rookie’s second scoring catch of the game. Score 36-14 Bears. The Chicago defense shut down the Redskins once more to end the game.

Bears to face division rival
The Chicago Bears will take part in a pivotal matchup this week on Monday Night Football against the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings currently are 7-6 and need a very strong push in the last three weeks to even have a chance at the NFC Wild card and a playoff berth. The Bears meanwhile, would like to keep going strong, they are currently the no. 2 seed in the NFC behind the Dallas Cowboys and need to keep sharp in order to go into the playoffs on a roll. Rookie running back Adrian Peterson will be out this week and for three more after week 15, with a broken rib. He will be missed hen the visiting Chicago Bears come to town. Chester Taylor will have to carry the load against the Chicago no.2 Bears rush defense in the league. The Minnesota rush defense is also fearsome so Rex Grossman will need to bring his A game to help the Bears stay in the game through the air. Chicago looks to have an easy job stopping the Minnesota O, but only time will tell if the bears will capitalize on their opportunities.

Hester making a cut on his path to the endzone.
The Chicago Bears capped Week 15 in the NFL in good fashion, beating the Minnesota Vikings 38-7 to clinch a spot in the playoffs. Devin Hester set the world on fire once again with 4 total TDs on the day, 1 receiving, 1 on a kickoff return, and 2 on punt returns. Kickoff was at 8:30, with temperatures at 70 degrees in the dome, the game is brought to you by ESPN.
The Bears kicked off the game with a touchback by Robbie Gould and the Vikings showed some promise early. Sidney Rice, the rookie wideout, caught two consecutive passes to move Minnesota past midfield. Chester Taylor also looked good, fighting forward for 3 first downs on the drive. The virtually unknown rookie receiver Aundre Allison caught a nice ball from Brooks Bollinger and showed some elusiveness to get to paydirt. Score 7-0 Vikings. This is where the phenomenal Devin Hester took over. Fielding a ball 3 yards deep in his own endzone, Hester cut it left and found some blocks, put on some moves and was gone down the left sideline for a score. Score 7-7.
Halfway through the second period, Hester went to work again after a fine Chicago defensive showing, taking a punt at his own 15, and going up the middle all the way after using some fancy footwork. Score 14-7 Bears. The Bears continued to dominate, Rex Grossman came out slinging and found Muhsin Muhammad and Bernard Berrian for big gains to over the halfway line until Rex threw yet another deep ball, this time to Hester, who caught it and went in from 5 yards out. Score 21-7 Bears. Getting towards the end of the first half, Robbie Gould added a field goal from 49 yards out to add to the Chicago lead. Score 24-7 Bears.
The second half started awfully for the Bears when Cedric Benson fumbled the ball on a run up the middle after getting hit by Pat Williams. The ball was recovered by Roberto Garza but the down was 3rd and 19. The bears had to punt it away for the third time in the game. Chicago looked good and Nathan Vasher made a key tackle on third down to force the Vikings to punt. Again Hester took it inside his own 10 yard line, but this time he went right, and made a few fantastic moves to beat almost 6 Vikings on his way to a ridiculous TD. Score 31-7 Bears.
With the fourth quarter providing the Vikings with a chance to at least salvage something from the game, it did not go well, with the elite Brian Urlacher forcing a Bobby Wade fumble that was recovered by Charles Tillman and returned all the way to the Minnesota 26 yard line. Grossman was sacked by Pat Williams on first down, but found Jason McKie, the little used fullback in the flat, and McKie flattened a defender on his way to a score. Score 38-7 Bears. The Bears forced another Vikings punt, and ran out the clock for another win and a place in the playoffs.

Bears to play for home field advantage
On the day before Christmas Eve, the Green Bay Packers will travel to windy and chilly Soldier Field in Chicago to face the Bears. The Bears are already in the playoffs but are not satisfied yet, they want to be playing at Soldier come January, where they have a big home field advantage. Rex Grossman has been showing good touch in recent weeks and will need to do so again against a talented Green Bay secondary, led by elite corer, Al Harris. Chicago tight end Greg Olsen is out injured with a bruised thigh for this week’s game, so Desmond Clark will need to step up to help Grossman. Clark’s matchup with young but talented safeties Aaron Rouse and Nick Collins will be worth watching. Both team’s defenses are playing well, and Brett Favre will need to be throwing well to make up for the lack of running room against this stingy beard defense. Undrafted rookie back Ryan Grant will need to play big for Green bay as he faces the toughest run defense of his young career. The Bears will be playing hard for the win at home in this one.

Nick Collins returning his pick for a score.
With their playoff spot already guaranteed, the Chicago Bears were playing for home field advantage in the playoffs when they faced the division rival Packers on the day before Christmas Eve. The Bears gave fans an early Christmas present with the win and the fact they’ll be playing in Chicago come January. The bears prevailed 13-10. Kickoff was at 1:00pm in 55 degree Soldier field, the game brought to you by FOX Sports.
Robbie Gould kicked the ball away to start the game, and the coverage team did a good job of tackling, and the Packers started at the 15 yard line. Brett Favre was sacked on the first play of the game by second year defensive end Mark Anderson, and could not convert for the first, and the Packers punted it away. Chicago did not do much better with each team only gaining one first down each in the first quarter. The defenses were solid and they set the tone for the rest of the game.
The second quarter did not start well for Chicago, with Rex Grossman throwing a pick right to rookie safety Aaron Rouse. The Bears defense shut down Favre again, but the big booted rookie kicker Mason Crosby nailed it through from 53 yards away. Score 3-0 Packers. Things only got worse for Chicago from then on, with Grossman getting sacked on consecutive plays by Aaron Kampman and Cullen Jenkins. Then, on third and 17 to go, Grossman wanted Desmond Clark on a delay route over the middle, but telegraphed the throw. The route was jumped by Nick Collins who picked the ball off at the Chicago 48. Collins would not be caught as he went down the right sideline for the score. Score 10-0 Packers. The Bears offense came out again and could not begin to move the ball with 0:52 left in the half. Grossman heaved a Hail Mary on third down, he was lucky it was not picked off as it was bobbled and dropped by Al Harris. The bears punted the ball away to end the half.
The start of the second half and still both defenses continued to dominate, but Chicago kept plugging away and were rewarded as backup running back Adrian Peterson took a 22 yard run to move Chicago within field goal range. The drive went no further so Robbie Gould got the Bears on the board wit a 50 yard kick. Score 10-3 Packers. The defensive intensity of the Bears also paid off late in the third quarter when safety Adam Archuleta came on a delay blitz and hammered the unsuspecting Favre, who’s attempted throw popped harmlessly into the air, where Brian Urlacher caught it and ran it in for a defensive touchdown. The Bears were rolling now. Score 10-10.
The fourth quarter did not start well again for Chicago, when Grossman was hit as he threw by AJ Hawk and was picked of by Packers middle ‘backer Nick Barnett. Grossman left the game with a pinched nerve but he will be fine for next week’s game. The Bears defense was as good as they had been all day, putting the clamps on a potentially game winning drive by the Packers, forcing them to punt. The punt went out of bounds with 2:35 left in the game. Brian Griese found something extra to lead the Bears offense, showing good poise to find his receiver on the drive. Cedric Benson also played a big part rushing well against a tired Packers defense. The ball was finally moved into scoring range with 0:25 left to go and the bears took their final timeout. Robbie Gold promptly sent it through from 46 yards away to give the Bears the lead with 2 seconds left in the game. Score 13-10 Bears. The Chicago defense dominated the last Packers drive, sacking Favre once and batting down his last pass to win the game.

Bears face toughest game of season
On the last week of the season, the Chicago bears will face the New Orleans Saints at Soldier, a rematch of last season’s NFC Championship game. The Saints will look to go one better against the Bears this season, and the two might quite possibly meet in the playoffs, with the Saints at #3 in the NFC, behind # 2 Chicago and #1 Dallas. New Orleans has the #1 offense in the NFL, and the Bears defense will face its sternest test all season. Possibly the most daunting task for the Bears defense all season will be shutting the Saints rushing attack of dynamic do Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush. Quarterback Drew Brees also leads the league in passing yards and touchdowns, with 48. Keeping tabs on the Saints wideouts will be no easy task, with the big Marques Colston and the speedy Devery Henderson having to be accounted for on every snap. Rex Grossman and fast Bernard Berrian will hope to hook up early and often against New Orleans’ vulnerable secondary. This won’t be possible if Rex has no time for throw against New Orleans relentless pass rush. Ends Charles Grant and Will Smith are almost impossible to contain all day, so Chicago will have to do its best. The bears running game will be key and if Cedric Benson can get it going, Chicago will be able to control the clock and the pace of the game, hopefully limiting the Saints’ potent offense.

Marques Colston reaching for a grab.
The Chicago Bears welcomed the New Orleans Saints ,who now hold the #3 spot in the NFC behind the Bears and the Cowboys after a loss to the bears in Soldier Field. The game was filled with excitement and hotly contested by both sides for the whole game, with the Bears prevailing 3-24. Kickoff on the final week of the season in Chicago was at 1:00pm, temperatures at 65 degrees and the game is once again brought to you by FOX Sports.
The Saints received the opening kick and Aaron Stecker made it out to about the 32 yard line. Drew Brees was hot early, he hooked up with Marques Colston twice on the first possession. When a Saints third down failure was nullified by defensive pass interference on #20, Adam Archuleta, the Saints pounced and moved to first and goal on a Devery Henderson catch. Big back Deuce McAllister punched it in on the ground from 8 yards out. Score 7-0 Saints. On the first play of the next Chicago drive, Rex Grossman saw a mismatch in the defense and bombed it deep to Bernard Berrian to within the New Orleans 30. Cedric Benson then punished the Saints on three straight carries, falling into the endzone on his fourth rush, still carrying to Saints. Score 7-7. With the first quarter drawing to a close, Chicago played solid defense, including a Tommie Harris sack for a loss of eight yards, to force the Saints to punt.
Chicago began again, but the relentless Saints pass rush was resulting in hurried and ill advised Rex Grossman throws. To culminate the bad possession, Rex was sacked after taking too long looking for an open receiver. The Bears’ Brad Maynard punted it away, a great kick, but it was caught by Reggie Bush before it could go out. Bush is known as being dangerous in the open field and he showed why, making some ridiculous moves and outrunning the Bears coverage team for the score. Score 14-7. The Saints kicked off and the Bears started another drive. Chicago finally got the message, with the Saints rushing hard, Cedric Benson gained good yards on multiple draw plays. With the Saints now respecting the run, Benson continued his success with more conventional runs, and the Bears looked good to score right before the half. But one bad run was all it took to fail to convert a third down. Robbie Gould, or MR. Automatic, belted the ball through the uprights from 35 yards. Score 14-10 Saints.
The Bears showed the same running success to move the chains on their next drive, and once again, the Saints played well enough in the redzone to prevent a Chicago touchdown, and Gould put his second field goal through the uprights from 29 yards away. Score 14-13. The Saints held a slim lead and could not do anything to increase it, falling at the first hurdle and failing to convert a key third down thanks to good Bears defense, and they punted the ball and this time Hester found a seam on the return and, not to be outdone by Bush he cut left, then showed fantastic elusiveness and speed to break into the open field. It was all over, Hester scoring yet again this season. Score 20-14 Bears. The Saints looked to come right back, and thy started to do so at the end of the third period.
Drew Brees found Bush out of the backfield on a screen for a nice 27 yard gain, and the Saints were rolling. Chicago defensive coordinator Bob Babich rolled the dice on a Saints first down and came with the house on an all out blitz. But Brees stood tall in the pocket and delivered a perfect strike to Marques Colston for a touchdown. Score 21-20 Saints. Chicago fired right back with another Robbie Gould field goal to retake the lead. The action packed fourth quarter continued when the Saints offensive juggernaut thundered over halfway, only this time Olindo Mare kicked through the 41 FG. Score 24-23 Saints. Rex Grossman showed the makings of a great quarterback, finding that something extra to lead a Chicago fourth quarter comeback. Benson was also a big contributor on the ground with some key carries. Rex then zipped a nice ball in to Muhsin Muhammad who broke a tackle and went in for the score. Score 30-24 Bears. The game was sealed when Mark Anderson generated another sack, forcing the Saints onto a failed fourth down conversion and the win was Chicago’s

Unreliable and you talking about Rex come on dawg you from philly McNabb is unreliable Rex I can rely on him as a Bear fan he got us to the superbowl if he had a real offensive coordinator he would actuallly show he is a good QB all they want to do with him is throw deep you cant do that when your team has no run game which is why we (The Bears) have been ineffective as of late

Spoken like a Bears fan. The only thing that got that team to the S.B. last year was their #1 ranked defense. Grossman wouldn't be a #1 on pretty much any team except maybe for the Falcons , Dolphins , and Jets. Unfortunatley he was a college system QB. I would be very suprised if he was given a starting postion again unless it was due to injury.

Harris looked dominating once again.
The Chicago bears gave the fans at Soldier Field something to cheer about when they shutout the Green Bay Packers in the 2nd round of the NFL Playoffs. The Bears prevailed 17-0 in the end after yet another lights out defensive showing. Kickoff was at 8pm on January 12, with this NFL Playoff game being brought to you by CBS.
The Packers started smart by kicking away from Devin Hester on the opening kickoff, and the Bears took over at the 19 yard line. Rex Grossman was shaky early, missing open receivers on first and third downs. The Packers got the ball after a Brad Maynard punt went out of bounds at the Green Bay 40. Immediately Chicago set the tone with a Tommie Harris sack and some big hits to force the Pack to punt the ball. This time it was to Hester but he was wrapped up early at the Chicago 42. Cedric Benson looked good early on, finding running room with ease, moving the Bears offensive unit into field goal range. Benson was then stuffed by AJ Hawk and Nick Barnett to force third and 14, and Rex’s pass fell incomplete on the very next play. Robbie Gould kicked the ball in once again this year, and gave the Bears a lead to close out the 1st quarter. Score 3-0 Bears.
The Chicago Bears defense kept dominating, and when, with 4:15 left in the first half, Ryan Grant took a run right up the middle, was hit by Brian Urlacher and fumbled the football. It was scooped up by Tommie Harris and he rumbled in for a Bears touchdown. Score 10-0 Bears. The Packers got the ball back and went on the attack, Donald Lee caught a 41 yard pass to move the Packers to midfield when he was caught by Charles Tillman. The Bears continued to set the defensive tone against the Packers offense, bullying Favre’s receivers with big hits, forcing drops aplenty. Green Bay punted yet again but it went out of bounds at the Bears’ 38. Cedric Benson ran the ball to run out the clock in the half and the Bears were looking good.
After the Packers were forced to punt, Chicago took possession at its own 42, with Benson looking good. But Grossman was there to throw it away, chucking a pass right to Packers corner Charles Woodson, and a touchdown was saved by Bernard Berrian’s tackle. But as Green Bay were inside the redzone threatening to score, Chicago came away with a turnover of its own, Tommie Harris sacked Favre and forced the ball loose, with Hunter Hillenmeyer the man on the spot to recover. The Bears struggled offensively for the next two possessions, and the momentum swung with each team’s defensive stops. The third quarter ended with the Chicago shutout still intact.
The defensive battle continued long into the lest period of the game, and it was not until Muhsin Muhammad made a 28 yard catch to set a Chicago drive in motion. Rex Grossman was pummeled by Cullen Jenkins for a 7 yard loss on first down, but two consecutive 10 yard runs from Benson gave the Bears a fresh set of downs and fresh life. With the ball at the Chicago 49 and 3:04 left to play, Benson took an ordinary HB Dive play up the middle, made a superb cut into the secondary and crushed a potential tackler , then used his speed, showing all assets of his game to take a beautiful 51 yard run to the house and almost guarantee a Bears win. The next possession was make or break time for the Packers, and when Favre’s pass deep left to Donald Driver fell to the turf and incomplete, Chicago ran out the clock to seal the deal and advance to the NFC Championship Game. Score 17-0 Bears. The Bears will travel to Texas stadium for their next game against the Dallas Cowboys on January 20, at 6:30pm, which will be covered by FOX Sports.

Romo put on a fantastic performance tonight.
A promising season and postseason run has come to an end for the Chicago Bears, as they lost to the now NFC Champion Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Championship game. After a lot of buildup, Dallas knocked off the reigning NFC Champs 28-14, with Tony Romo throwing for all four scores. Kickoff was at 6:30pm, with temperatures at 75 degrees in Texas Stadium, and this year’s NFC Championship is brought to you by FOX Sports.
The opening kick went to the Bears after they won the toss and Devin Hester made his presence felt early, scampering to the 42 of Chicago before being tripped up. Chicago overcame setbacks in the form of sacks on first and second downs with a 24 yard pass to Bernard Berrian. Then Rex Grossman just tore up the Dallas secondary, finding open receivers from his first, second and even third reads. The Bears were moving the ball really well, and as they neared the goal line, Grossman just stuck it in the belly of Cedric Benson and the back pummeled his way to paydirt to give Chicago an early lead. Score 7-0 Bears. The ‘Boys pushed right back but the Bears shut them away, forcing a Matt McBriar punt. Chicago was pushing forward again late in the first quarter and would have most likely added another 3+ points to their lead until tight end Desmond Clark caught a pass and was smashed in the mouth by Roy Williams, which forced the ball free. It was recovered at the Dallas 26 by Cowboy corner Anthony Henry.
Dallas had the ball and because of all the attention the Bears were paying to superstar receiver Terrell Owens, Tony Romo turned early and often to his safety valve, tight end Jason Witten, on a 12 play, 74 yard drive that ate up about half of the second quarter game clock. It was capped by a touchdown pass from Romo to wideout Patrick Crayton. Score 7-7. With the half drawing to a close, Bears quarterback Rex Grossman did his best to run the 2 minute drill, and after his first few short passes fell incomplete, Rex heaved it long and deep, with Devin Hester making an over the shoulder grab near the Cowboy 35 but the clock ran out just as Robbie Gould lined up for a field goal.
In the third, Romo looked great, with plenty of accuracy and velocity on each of his throws. His one mistake was one he made twice, getting sacked by Tommie Harris, but Romo more than made up for it finding his receivers with ease, and the cowboys moved into scoring range. But Chicago end Mark Anderson did his best to spoil the show, stuffing Julius Jones on first down and sacking Romo to make it 3rd and 16. Romo promptly dumped the ball off to Marion Barber, who made a fantastic play to beat multiple Bears on his way to the endzone for a 51 yard catch and run. Score 14-7 Cowboys. The Bears got the ball back but their possession was short lived, as DeMarcus Ware sacked Grossman, forced the ball loose and recovered it, to give Dallas superb field position at the end of the third quarter.
Romo then took over again, he found Owens when #81 beat Charles Tillman on a deep out route in the endzone for the score. Score 21-7 Cowboys. In the fourth the Bears did get a small consolation prize, when Cedric Benson rushed for a nice 27 yard touchdown run, but from there on out it was all Dallas, and the final nail in the coffin was hammered down by Grossman when he connected with Witten for the tight end’s first score of the game and as the clock ran out, Texas Stadium went wild. The Dallas Cowboys will face the San Diego Chargers in Super Bowl 42 in Glendale Arizona, and the Chicago Bears organization wishes the ‘Boys the best of luck.
