Are you kidding me 2k? I pay 3 times as much for the PS3 version of your game rather than the PS2 version and then find I cannot play in your tournament. This is after the PS3 version already doesn't have voice chat or online league websites like the other versions do. Your company has a lot of nerve! NHL 2k8 will be the last 2ksports product I ever buy unless your company starts doing some explaining!!!!! Why did you even make a PS3 version when the PS2 has so many more features, oh I forgot you want your extra $40 for less features.

This is pretty lame 2K. Why are you ignoring the PS3? You just had a APF2K8 tourney that was exclusive to the 360, and now you are having a hockey tourney that is for the 360 and the last gen PS2 version.
Is there any reason you are disregarding those that purchased the PS3 version? Is it so hard to atleast give us league support?
I don't understand this...

The scheduling this year will be very similar to last year. Weekend games will be played during the afternoon and weeknight games will be played at 8-9 pm EST.
There is no schedule that we can release that would be good for everybody.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of proper registrant verification software needed to insure only one tournament entry per PS3 online gamer, we are unable to include PS3 in the NHL 2K8 Dodge Tournament. We had originally intended to have this issue resolved for NHL 2K8 but unfortunately, the necessary software was and still is unavailable from Sony Computer Entertainment of America.

Thank you very much for answering the questions asked by myself and others, it is nice to have an official response. But alas I have a couple of followup questions.
1. PS3 is the exclusive platform for the FIFA Interactive World Cup (http://www.fifa.com/interactiveworldcup/index.html), a tournament similar to yours where anyone can enter for the chance to win big prizes. Presumably they have the same competitive issues as you but have found a way to make it work on the PS3.
2. Why are there no league websites or voice chat for PS3 like there are for PS2 and Xbox360? That is something that is presumably under your control.
Thanks for answering before and I look forward to the response to these questions.

I changed your registration to the PS2 (U.S.).
We have several tools at our disposal to see if your opponent cheated. We are unable to monitor the games so we do not have strict gameplay rules.
You are no longer required to activate your email account. However, if you did not receive an email about the tourney, I strongly suggest you send me a new email address so you receive future messages. In my experiences, a yahoo account seems to work best.

Would the same be true for things like

-Shot Aim (Manual or Auto)
Things like this ?
I would assume there would be some standard to keep all players on even terms.

Here is what I was told from somebody familiar with the process:
"When they first go online, on the PS2, they have to enter an account and password. If they don't have one there is an option to create one. That's all they need to do to get online and participate in leagues / tournaments. On the 2K web site, they will be asked to enter the same username and password they used on the PS2."

I don't see how any of this stuff matters if we're gonna have to replay games we already played half way through. I had the 28th place guy beat and my game froze (the same freezing problem on original XBOX at the end of the game at the same time on the crowd) and i got no record for it.
If the tourney is gonna be like this its gonna be people losing one game and then having a network error during a tourney game, and then having to redo the game from the 1st period.
Here's an example:
Say you're up 2-1 at the end of a game like i was. The game freezes, why? Ask 2k, its a problem on all systems. Nobody gets record of a win, i play that same guy later and i have a bad game and i'm out of the tourney even tho really i already knocked that person out with no time left in the game so really that person isn't the winner as this isn't a best of 3 or a best of 7 they are 1 offs.
Or this scenario is a lot more frequent to this year
Example: You're up 6-1 in the 2nd period say (because the game is set on easy difficulties another ridiculous thing about online NHL, it should be on HoF to minimize cheap goals, set the defense down low for everyone if you don't want the CPU ai D to be as strong as offline but the goalies need to be stronger desperately and no amount of defense is gonna stop a bad save which goalies continually make on lower difficulties) and all of a sudden Network Error, you get nothing. And sure its okay every once in awhile but i can barely play a game online without having to start a game 3 or 4 times against one person and as a computer EXPERT, TRAINED in IT i can tell you its not any of us, but poor programming or beta testing, and for hte money we payed we demand it be fixed, or this tournament will not be legit and people will be choked including me, and i guarantee i'm gonna go EA next year even if it does blow, and a lot of people have already done that due to a lack of effort on 2k's part to fix the problems, or even acknowledge them. Tell everyone its their xbox or their router and its not. Do you guys really want to lose out so bad to EA next year that nobody buys your game, because i can tell you its not very hard for me to switch even after all these years EA does finally have a game worthy to be called competition and i had a difficult time choosing, but i thought maybe just maybe 2k would fix these three year old glitches.
And whats gonna happen after this message and after you guys read it, you'll shrug it off and ignore me, and if you do that i swear you will not see NHL 2K10, you might get 2k9 out to very very poor sales, if you ignore these issues.

:thumbsdow This is ridiculous, 2k you need to allow PS3 into the tournament. How could you not allow PS3 in. The game is amazing yet for some reason I can't even enter this thing, but if I go buy a lower quality PS2 version I can. You also need to work on the server errors that were consistant on 2K7 and now an issue in 2K8. I almost bought EA08 to avoid this problem but figured it would be corrected in 2K8. Boy was I disappointed when I got the game home and online.

Are the arcade modes going to be played in this tournament? Sim mode on all-star or above is the only way to make some of the cheese go away, so is this going to be an exploit fest or what? TA i know you don't have the setting yet and it looking like your going to go with rank settings but there different rank games like sim and arcade. it would be smart to go with sim rank setting since this is a hockey tournament, it will also help make the game more balance. if you go with arcade alot of people will do the same move the whole game which is not hockey. at least with sim rank games there still a chance the goalie will not fall for that same move over and over. it won't be perfect but it will cut down alot of the cheese.plz think about that when you decide what the setting will be.thx

WTF man i have phone and phone and phone about this for over a month now and nothing has been done about it. i'm missing out on games cause your online system, none of my other games do this. you really need to talk to IT about this cause it sucks that the guy on top might not be the best but is the one with the lease amount of netwrok error.

This tournament will be played on SIM.

What is wrong with the 2k servers? Today I played a total of 7 games. I won 5, but have only been given 2 wins, lost 2 and have only been given one loss. All games were ranked so that's not the problem. This surely needs to be fixed because at this rate i'll never get 10 games played

TA this is becoming a pain, i been trying to play for 6 hours now and only got 5 games in out of close to 50 now.Can we get a reason for this problem? cause we all know its not the router can you talk to someone about it, or let me give me a number to someone in IT that can patch this problem. or get me a manager that i can talk to cause enough is enough we want answer. how can you hold a tournament when 90% of the games are network error.
this is what it said so you know what to ask IT or someone about it.
"A network problem has been encountered that prevents gameplay from countinuing. If this is a ranked match it will not be counted."
Fix this plz.

Well other guy either pulls out cord out of system in and out until theres a page that says send game to arbitration and game won't count towards nobody, or you can just hit the standby button in your modem if you don't wanna pull out and in behind the ps2.
I'm surprised 2k still let's get people get away, i mean wtf since 2k4 people have done this and no no no change, this has got to change this is ********.

So you mean some really corrupt people could easily win this on the PS2 version? I didn't know the Dropglitches were still goin on, they were bad last year on xbox 360. So like someone who'se game would be pivotol on them losing one game could save themselves and have a way better game the next game. Not good 2k. How's the finalist gonna win the tournament, by turning off the xbox, or ps2 LMAO.

so far no one seem to be able to pull that off on the 360, i had a guy pull the cord on me and i got the win for it, the big problem where having is network error, i play for 8 hours today and got 7 games in out of 50+ trys and i beat one guy in the top 5 but at the end of the game it froze i didnt get the win he didnt get the lost. then on my last game of the night i won 4-1 but what happens? you guess it froze again. i got no win he got no lost.
i hope you guys patch this before november cause if i get a network error in a playoff game where i was winning and end up losing cause i had to replay it i'm going to be ****.

I will be glad to forward along any messages to the online NHL team. Perhaps, with your help, we can find the root of the problem and then they could figure out a solution.
Here is the response I received:
"Anytime users encounter these errors they should reboot their consoles. Also they should undo or delete any custom online settings (lines, etc) as that could be part of the cause.
For actual tournament play, both users must enter the bracket after a fresh boot."

I don't know if 2K knows this, but you actually don't even need to go for the full boot. Just leave the xbox live menu in 2K8, go back to the regular 2K8 menu, then go back into the xbox live menu in 2k8 and try again (None of this involves signing in and out of your account in the guide menu). In fact i recommend it not only after games that drop, but every game, or drop even before the loading screen or during, or anytime you connect with someone, even if it gives you the online faq, do this workaround i learned off of 2khockey. That way you save yourself having to turn on and off a triple core machine which is a lot of workload.

Hey TA since your sending messages can you send the 2k team this one. I just wanted to ask them to think about putting in online franchise for leagues. just take everything they use for the offline and put it online for leagues. this would be huge for the game. but for some reason they don't do it maybe they could just add create a players for leagues so admins can just make players or add a FA area where people can place or pick up free agents.
if all that fails hire me haha. I'm from Canada and would making your game the best hockey of all time.

Well as for freezes, there's still a lot of bugs when it comes to faceoffs online. The game will just stop. I don't know why, and at the end of the game when it starts paning across the fans it'll totally freeze where the system needs to be rebooted, and the player will get a quit added to their record if its there system that froze, i actually won a game it froze at the end and i got a quit added to my record.

Well a thing that happened in a lg game once was that the wrong rosters loaded for that game somehow which was weird and unable to ccntinue thing popped up so all i can say it has to be something between both games that don't match or there's something wrong i don't know but pseaking of this in some games when you go to strategy or hit firends list in middle of a game game sometime is unable to continue, when you hit fruends list it acts with latency dont know if that causes you to d/c from game cutting bandwith but u dont know i know nothing lol.

Well I guess I am really on here wondering what the rules for the actual tournament are going to be, I have been an elite player at this game since 2K4 and have always been near the top if not at the top of the leaderboard ever since. The top guys from the game used to get together on friday and saturday nights in the XBOX lobby 12-15 guys and we would randomly select brackest and set up tournaments of our own. Therefore I think my input would be considered valuable in order to help determine the top dog for the tourney. These guys complaining about the way the game is played in the rugular lobby are obviously not top contenders or they would be able to stop the guy going down the center of the ice with the puck, there is no system to SIM hockey it is way more random and definatly not a best man wins game. All of the top players in the game play in the regular lobby once in a while you get the odd guy saying that he could beat any of us in a sim game and i go to that lobby and hand him a loss, therefore if you are looking for the best player why change the game on them? As SIM is a different game....
Secondly though, as this is a tourny there should be more than one game played per bracket because as we all know everyone is capable of having a bad game. In our tournaments we had in 2K4 we always had a best of 3 and it was definatly the way to go as you should have to win 2 games to move on and if you lose 2 out of 3 you deserve to sit the next rounds out, but a one win bracket is a bit of a coin flip.
Another point that i have seen brought up but not really cleared up is the dropping caused by either the console or the connection, i get one of these every 10-15 games it seems, the last 2 have happenend during the exit process just before the game is reporting the results both games i won and both games i got drops for. Are you going to be able to dtermine final score at the time of drop? Because losing based on software or hardware conflicts would be really lame.
Most of all though i would like to mention your leaderboard, what a discrace. You have Plushsafe at the top of the US and King Felix at the top of the Canadian closely followed by GAMESPOT MARTIN, lol, these guy are not top players in any way shape of form they have all been beaten so badly by the top players that they refuse challenges from any of us. I read through the rules before the tournament started and was extactic when i heard you were changing the format of the leaderboard for the qualifying rounds, little did i know it was a setup for disapointment. In the "rules" it clearly stated if you play people of a lesser rank your ranking will go down. I have beaten everyone at the top of the Canadian and American leaderboard and i am still sitting in the 10th or 11th spot? This is really agravating as I actually have a job and dont live in moms basement so i cant sit around all day and play newbies for free wins. I really hope that you are not using the team selection based on rank as it would be a shame to hand out the top teams to the top seeds on this so called "Leaderboard". It has nothing to do with how many top players you have taken out it is only determined on points, anyone can sit around all day and play people with horrible records and to lose out on your chance at having a decent team for the tournament because you choose to work aswell as play this game is just not right.....
Just as an example Gamespot Martin and i have played 1 game, it was a while back but I beat him 6-0 half way through the 1st period he had 3 shots to my 6 goals and quit the game. Now your telling me that he is the second best in CANADA, LOL. I don't mean to be a jerk but this guy has tried to bash me since this happened in the lobbies so i thought i should bring it to your attention he shouldn't even be in the tournament as he is a resident of Quebec, and i saw in the "Rules" that Quebec residents were excluded from the tournament, just wondering if that is infact true....
I am blown away at how the leaderboard has gotten worse over the years and not better. It was way, way more realistic in 2K4 and 2K5, if you were in the top spot you were forced to play top players or even if you did win you would go down in ranking, and if you were a high seed and won against a top player your rank would go up a considerable amount, this is the biggest problem with your game right now and other than the wraparound last year it was the biggest concern for players aswell, its a shame you cant incorporate your old leaderboard to your new games as it was way better......
Well I hope that atleast some of my input was helpful as some of it was obvious venting over frustrations during the last couple of years, but please pass that along to the guys incharge of the leaderboard as it is PATHETIC at the moment.....
