Player ranked in the top 150. Campbell 20 rushes for 76 yds. This is getting old.
Faced a team with Rice, Berry, Reed & Christensen in the game before that. Held them to 14 total points.
Victories in both games.
The only reason I'm posting this is for all you whiners who complain about how hard it is to stop these players. I'm really not that good either.

What players you have on Defense and I assume you gotta be playing Zone right?

Yeah, once you get a grasp on defense it is fun to play.

here is the 100% sure fire way to stop earl.
ready?
DONT PLAY ANGAINST HIM!
if you know you cant contain him and you will whine then just ask for them to use another team or just leave during the team selection screen.

Thanks for the inside scoop reppin 626, that was as incisive as it was funny.
Do you pass or whine?

to stop earl: 4-3 key zone, manually assign OLB's to Earl. OLB's need to be legends, and solid tacklers, a solid secondary always helps.

Thanks Manning. Any help against the dreaded one is appreciated!

Exactly. I have Greg Loyd on the left and and Brad Van Pelt on the right. Before the snap I assign both of them to the HB and I control the generic MLB. I usually use Cover 3 or key zone out of the 4-3 defense.

Is it a case of just containing him, or is it possible to completely take him out of the game. That would be nice to see, but am I hoping for too much?

On the topic of OLBs I find Lloyd works far better for me than D. Thomas. Thomas seems to be anonymous for me, solid but unspectacular. LLoyd does everything, covers, sacks and never misses a tackle.
BVP is okay for a bronze. Anybody else have an OLB they feel warrants high praise,

Brazille is a real good player. Fast, tackles well, and covers well.

Reppin 626 is a beast with Earl. Play him and then you can say you know how to stop Earl.
And he doesnt cheese with him either. 15-20 carries against me. I always though I could stop Earl, but he showed me otherwise.

Reppin 626, I'll have to look for him online.
Anyway, Earl is a beast. Hit him with your best defender and while other RBs will either go sideways or fall backwards, Earl usually falls forward for at least a couple of extra yards (if he doesn't run you over completely). My goal is to try and hold him under 100 yds. and 1 TD. Most times I usually do better than that although he is subject to break a long run at any point in the game.
Most people aren't willing to spend the majority of their gold/silver picks on defense. If you see someone that does then most times it seems you get more of a sim game than those with a loaded offense.
What I strive to do is create a team synergy (on defense especially). To do so though, you have to know the strengths and weaknesses of your legends and set your generics accordingly.
Gold>Silver>Bronze. Do you guys know the difference between Lloyd and Bednarik?
I'll finish this post later.

Bednarik seems to never get tired . ANd I think he might be faster than LLoyd too.

Reppin 626's gamertag is V TUD V by the way.
and my team is composed of 2 gold 1 silver and 4 bronze on defense.

So you do a cover 3, in 4 - 3 but what do you do when they have a legend TE with a Gold WR, and they come out in 4 wr or 3 wr set, this is just against those who do iformation type offenses.
Njake.
September 29th, 2007, 10:34 AM
I use my legend MLB (Brian Bosworth) and practically cover the TE man to man, unless I see another WR coming over the middle uncovered.

The difference between Lloyd and Bednarik is Lloyd plays the run and tackles better than Bednarik. Bednarik is slightly better in pass coverage and because of his stamina bonus he can chase guys down from behind. Probably not as fast as Lloyd over a distance of 10-20 yds., but if a play gets behind you he doesn't tire easily and can cover more ground than Lloyd and most guys with the speed burner attribute.
When it comes to gold FS, Lott, Harris & Wood, they are different in what they do well also. Wood is the best of the 3 against the pass (and fastest), Lott dominates against the run, and Harris is kind of a blend of the two. Harris is better at defending the run that Wood, but not as good against the pass. He seems to cover the pass slightly better than Lott, but isn't quite as good against the run as Lott is.
I just finished playing 2 games online and here are the results:
Game 1: (vs a top 200 player) 17-0
Key stats: OJ - 7car. for 64 yds. (broke 1 run for 55 yds.)
Harbaugh - QB rating of 1.5
Guy gave me a neutral rating. He kept b*tching and moaning the whole game about my "bum" d-linemen getting pressure on his QB. I can't play anymore straight up than that and still get a neutral rating because I hurt someones feelings by beating them. Oh well.
Game 2: (vs a guy ranked around 4000 but with 100% feedback) 6-0
Key Stats: Montana 2 for 20, QB rating of 39.6
Ditka 1 rec. for 14yds.
O. Anderson 11 car. for 30yds.
I left him positive feedback as I did against the previous opponent and this guy was kind enough to send me a message afterwards.
More later. Got to go for now.

Gale Sayers 7 car. 10 yds.
Barry Sanders 11 car. 20 yds.

thanks njake for that, i never use that team anymore. When i do use it i only give him like 20 carries. I balence the run with the pass on that team. on my main team i run like 10 times max with my bronze and pass the rest, that team has young, rice, coats, clark, means. the rest defence. i always have a balenced team 6 D 5 O

Gamertag = LeHoTheToad
I try to run a balanced attack also (6D,5O).
Like I said earlier, I'm not the best by any means but I always like to play against the top competition.

See all the other running backs i can stop easily, very easily compared to Campbell, Means (most of the time i can) and okoye (had some good games against me) but in the end its always campbell the mixture of his abilities make him a beast, especially the workhorse towards the end of the game, if i dont get the Offense in a situation to have to pass for the last quarter mostly im done for because of clock control.

Yeah, this bull again. Heh, how do you stop 3+ averaged broken tackles a game? Maybe the guys you played just sucked? Try stopping my team, you won't get very far and i have 7 people on defense.

How about this. We play a game where i get to use Jerry Rice and Earl Campbell. If you lose, you come back on this forum and say a simple "I was wrong", if I lose, i'll do the same. My GT is TakinItEz, i know we'll have a blast :).

Why would I come on here and post I was wrong if 1 person has a good game against me?
I never said I could stop the run every single time.
The point I'm trying to make is that it can be stopped on a consistent basis.
I'm willing to play you as long as your feedback rating is good.

Hey, Ghost, you seem to be good against the pass (judging by your opponet's stats). Any tips?
Njake.
September 30th, 2007, 06:54 AM
Dont play Bballfanatic (TakinItEZ). Well, I guess you can. He is a good player, but its annoying sometimes because he sends you messages thoughout the game. If you can tolerate that, then go ahead.
