View Full Version : I run the JFL: My defense SUCKS. Ever try running a league you SUCK in? HELP

Ok so here's the story. I'm 33 and have a 6 month old now. I don't have the game time I use to. In 2k5 I was the JFL Champion the first two seasons. Almost a third time later down the road. Now we are in our 7th season with 2k8...
AND I SUCK!!!!
I lose shoot outs. I can score in bunches but I can't stop a fart from blowing a football into a WR's hands for the game winning score. LOL
So I need some help. Tips... anything.
If I could stop my opponent three to four times a game I would go undefeated. Unfortunately I'm 1-3 right now!
So someone please throw me a bone here. I would kill for a handful of good solid defensive plays I could rely on.
So here's my offer: Like I said I run the JFL. Check us out in the 360 online leagues. We are currently rated the highest of all 2k leagues. (Saturday 7/29) If someone can teach me the ends and outs... the tricks of the trade some might say of defense with 2k8... I'll promise you the next open spot in the JFL. Better yet... If no one drops or gets kicked during this season I'll expand the league by two teams to make sure you get a spot.
(Only sim/straight players should apply. All is void if I find out you are not sim or have bad sportsmanship. We are a very select group of good guys. Most have been with me for years. We also set a very minimum of rules in the league. You are expected to play sim style ball. Once someone gets in the league they don't leave.)
So I think that is a fair offer.
Show me how to play better D with 2k8 and I invite you to join a great league full of great guys. You'll never need to play a blind lobby game again. These guys are all you need. LOL I feel like I'm ****ing out my friends.
So what am I looking for...
1. A simplified but dependable defensive scheme?
2. A way to breakdown a game on defense that will allow me to stop opponents better?
3. A handful of good solid defensive plays I can depend on to work?
I honestly don't know but I think I'll know it when I see it. I just need help. I'm not looking to destroy opponents. I just want to compete.
IF you have some solid defense schemes you DO NOT want to post in this thread then private message me. I'll give you my email address to send me the ideas you have.

This is a sample of our league the "JFL". Tonight I created an update for our frontpage but have been unable to post it because the league sites are down for some reason. So to give you a sample of what we are about here is our weekly MVP Awards. The following is the Awards for Weeks 4-5. Each week I pick the most outstanding players from the following week and give them an award. Nothing mind boggling but When you really look into it there is a lot there. I have each team post in a thread their starting lineup along with their jersey codes. If you win an award I create your team and the one you played against so I can create an accurate screen shot of your guy in action from his big game. I think it works well. It's nice to see your guy on the frontpage with his stats for all to see. It boosts moral and keeps people entertained. We also have man league members who post weekly articles. One of my favorites is the Picks of the Week. One of my guys goes over the games coming up and picks his winners. Good chat material.
Each week we Award:
Offensive MVP of the Week: Self explanitory
Defensive MVP of the Week: Again... Self Explanitory
Scrub of the Week: This award goes to the generic player who contributed the most to help his team win.
Enjoy...
================================
Week 6 is here! That means it's the Weekly MVP Awards time. This time around I'm covering Weeks 4-5. Sorry guys but I've been a little stressed and all that stress led to be getting sick this past week so I was unable to post the Week 4 MVPs when I wanted to. No worries though. It gave you more time to get your games in and therefore get your peeps into the running.
Week 4 provided a pretty solid spread of MVPs.
The Defensive MVP goes to the Tucson Sharks Ed "Too Tall" Jones! Jones had 4 tackles and 3 Sacks in the Sharks win against the Steamers 28-23. Unfortunately the Sharks have not posted their team info like they are suppose to with their jersey code so the image may or may not correctly represent them. GET THOSE FREAKIN CODES IN!!!!
One team got double awards this week. The Dover Black Death recieved the Offensive MVP Award as well as the Scrub of the Week Award! First the Offensive Award: It goes to Joe Montana who went 14/19 for 322 yards and 4 Tds with not Ints! The Scrub of the Week goes to the Black Death's Dawan Tuiasosopo. #28 had 2 tackles and 3 interceptions to help the Black Death beat a might Bulldog team 38-28. The lose was the Bulldog's first lose of the year!!!
Now onto the Week 5 Awards...
Week 5 had TWO stand out offensive players I thought should share the Award.
First the undefeated Yonkers Knights Randall Cunningham gets his share of the Award by going an AMAZING 12/14 for 295 yards and 3 Tds with no Ints. Earning himself a QB rating of 158.3... ALMOST perfect. The Yonkers Knights, the early favorite to win it all, beat the hot Black Death 38-7!!!
The other offensive star I chose to share the award with Cunningham is the Greensboro Bolts' very own Earl Campbell. He rushed 21 times for 256 yards and 3 Tds to help his team beat the Legends 27-17. The win levelled out their record to 2-2. This is the second time the Bolts' Earl Campbell has won an MVP Award.
The Defensive MVP Award goes to Nolan Cromwell of the Cleveand Steamers. Cromwell had 6 tackles 3 assists and 1 interception he returned for a TD! Not just any TD mind you. He intercepted the ball with just :23 seconds left in the first half to get his team rolling. The win was a BIG one for the Steamers who had not won a game all year and to finally do so against the Ryders who are a solid JFL team is saying something. The Steamers won 32-30 with a last second field goal.
Finally we come to the final award of this weeks awards. The Week 5 Scrub of the Week goes to Lennox Feagles of the Orlando Bulldogs. Feagles had 2 sacks to help his Bulldogs rebound from a tough week 4 lose to the Black Death. The Bulldogs beat the Savages 28-24.
So there you have it. Until next week. Good Luck to everyone in Week 6. I hope to have some new fresh faces to post for you in next weeks MVP Awards!!!

Well I'm not really looking for tricks. Just tips. I'm not looking for glitches... we are a sim league. Glitches are outlawed.
I just need general help on how to play better D with 2k8. I know football and was good with 2k5. Just for some reason 2k8 is tough for me.
The one thing I know now is I need different D lineups. I currently have a DT, DE, MLB, SS, CB

I'm pretty good at holding my opponents to around 14 points or less during a game. Been able to play some lobby games of late and shutout my opponents or hold them to a Td.
Just looking at your defensive stars I would make some immediate changes when designing your next team.....
What difficulty is your league? And where are you having the most problems, ie. defending the run or pass?
If you use AIM hit me up there aim=pgskn1 or fee free to ad me to your FL, I'm always looking for good sim players to play........

My league is a mix of settings. It's Legendary right now with injuries off and human kicking cranked up to 75%.

My league is a mix of settings. It's Legendary right now with injuries off and human kicking cranked up to 75%.
Well first off, I like playing defense with 6 legends, 2 at CB, 2 LB, 1 at FS or SS and then 1 on the dline....i prefer a DE or DT.
heres an example of one of my teams:
Gold W Brown CB
Gold D Thomas OLB
Silver K Stabler QB
Silver C Muncie RB
Silver D Maynard WR
Bronze D Manley DE
Bronze J Anderson or B Van Pelt OLB
Bronze R Sanders, D Clark WR
Bronze P Metzelaars TE
Bronze T McDaniel CB
Bronze C Waters, E Robinson SS or FS
When I use this team I can shutdown one side of the field on defense and force plays away from my gold players. This allows me to jump on a MLB or Safety and patrol the other side of the field.
Most good players you will face will have at leaset 2 WR's, 1 TE, 1 RB and of course their QB. Being able to match up with them is the first step in stopping them. Once you know what players they have you can get a good idea of what they like to do......if you see a gold RB then chances are they like to run the ball....if you see a gold wr and gold or silver TE then they will probably being throwing the ball on you. With the team i listed above you can shutdown any gold RB and have a solid secondary that wont give up alot of big plays......
