The Best LB's Dont Get Alot of Tackles You Know

It seems sports fans are easily fooled by the media and highlight films and raw stats..................People always go nuts over tackles numbers but they dont realisize that those numbers are acually bad.

Example-Offense has 4 downs to advance the ball 10 yards. The defense stops them 3 times in a row forcing a punt. The defense is extremely happy. But............on that drive their were only 3 tackle opportunities. Lets says Ray Lewis was on that D and he stuffed the RB on 1st and 2nd. Thats 2 tackles for him. On 3rd they had an incomplete pass.

Example 2-Offense marches down the field 60 yards and scores in the redzone. The defense is not happy. But..............lets say Brian Urlacher was on that D and he tackled the RB 6 times on that drive. His stats look better than Ray Lewis but are infact worse. Teams with bad Defenses have more tackle opportunities.

If you stop a team like in example 1 then you get 3 tackle opportunities. In example 2 the D had about 20 tackle opportunies which inflates their stats.

Bottom line-The best teams dont get alot of tackles..........................

the offense has a 3 play drive. 2 runs and a 60 yd pass pass. 3 tackles, allowing 1 TD.
bad defense also have minimum tackles.


Offense has a 11 play drive ending in a punt. 8 runs for 3 yards a carry. 3rd and 1 offense converts couple times. Ends up on midfield and forced to punt. defense gets 8-9 tackles, and stopped the defense.

Wow this makes no sense. An LB's job is to bring the ball carrier down. Thats his teammates fault if a WR burns him for 50. Its not all on an LB to take over the entire game. Its a TEAM SPORT. Each position does its job.

One thing else i noticed is the best teams don't get alot of tackles? What kinda retrd are you? When the other team runs the ball, what do you do? I suppose you say "Oh we wanna be good, so lets not tackle em!" Just a dumb post.

I see where your comin from, but still, its dumb saying that they are better when they get less tackles. Lets see the Bears of last year. 13-3 good team, Brain U. and Lance B. Both got in the range of 125-150 tackles. Thats MORE tackles. The best don't always tackle LESS.

Not saying they do, just trying to get his point across to you, while his post may not have been completely true, he did have a point.

But LB's on better run stopping D's will have more tackles, because if the run is for more than 5 yards it wont be a LB getting the tackle anyways...
