Stop focusing your energy on creating games for a system such as the Xbox360.

Instead focus your energy on developing your games on a system that actually works.

M$ Has admitted that the 360 hardware has problems.

Do you want to sell more of your games in the long run? Create and focus your development on the PS3.

Right now the 360 is the worst piece of hardware engineered console ever created in the history of gaming with 33% Failure rate.

Why do you have to create games on a system like this?

Actually, the 65-nm CPU chips, which produce less heat (code named "Falcon") and improved heat sink are just beginning to be sold at stores.

MS may eventually shrink the GPU to 65-nm (code named "Jasper") as well to cut production costs and further reduce heat. These are the systems that won't be out 'til next year around August.

I am a 360 owner who has never had problems. However I must agree. Regular DVD cannot hold enough information. We must move into HD DVD gaming or Blu Ray. Sony is already in place...I hope Microsoft steps up to the plate. That's why we can't get high graphics and great game play...and presentation all in one. If you noticed on NBA2k8 to give us more fan movement more animations interactive sidelines etc. They had to take away sweat tone down the graphics some.

2K is just loyal to XBOX.
Remember when 2K was innovating using the hard drive Years before Sony.

Halftime shows and anypoint replays and MUSIC EDITOR were all only available on Xbox, since Sony lagged behind with PS2.

At that time it was fact not opinion that XBOX was WAY more powerful.

Some people like myself didn't think PS2 was a hell of a lot more powerfull than DC.

So now that PS3 is only slightly more powerful than 360...(thats taken from a Sony press release BTW)

The first XBox was a nice piece of hardware. I owned it and a PS2, eventually ended up buying more games for the XBox than the PS2 even though I bought the XBox much later (like 2 years after it's release).

I own a Wii and an XBox 360 right now, but I know I will eventually purchase a PS3. I'm justing waiting for the game that I can't get on the XBox and that makes me want to lay down $400 bucks for it.

I have friends who've modded their 360's, so they could play free games. They chose free games over free warranty. Bump in the road for those guys, as far as the red lights go. But really, unless you have 2, it's a real pain. I've missed the UPS guy twice on my return so far.

Every company monitors their forums boards to some extent. Even if it's the developers doing it. What they don't do is reply to the threads. There's typically a company policy that prohibits the company members from posting on their forums in order to ensure they don't release information that could affect the sales of the games either by fostering unfounded expectations or by misrepresenting the company.

When you do see a company member posting, it's typically a smaller gaming company, a high level official, or a designated community spokesperson.

I do believe they monitor the forums. 100%.

I doubt this thread will affect what they do regarding the development of their games on various platforms. Again 100%. :)

Hello My fellow gamers and friends. I must say that I do own a Xbox360 and have it now for about 2 years. It has never went hot or gave me the red rings I have heard about. I did have a PS3 and a PS2. I sold my PS2 for the original Xbox. and I still say that Xbox 360 is the better system . I still own a PS3 but I must admit the online play with Xbox live blows PS3 away. The Graphics, the feel of the controller, the menus and settings is just so well done. I hate to hear that some people machines is not working. But I guess I am a lucky one because my experience with Xbox 360 has been wonderful.

im sorry to tell you but the PS3 was and is a flop. Thats why 3rd party companies are focusing on xbox 360 and thats why the ps3 has allready dropped 100 and will drop another 50-100 before xmas. The system just didnt pan out well. It cost more to develop games for the ps3 and game companies aren't making that money back because they cant sale the amount of copies of the game to make money.

You will continue to see the big games like madden GTA and other known franchises made for ps3 but don't expect the small to mid size companies to make new titles for the ps3 its just not worth it to them.

Out of maybe the 30 friends i know who play video games maybe 2 of them have a ps3 and those 2 also have a 360 its just not a smart buy right now and i dont see that changing from their lineup over the next year. They dont have 1 game that just makes me go WOW.

This is a thread that looks into the future of gaming.

For any business owners or developers you have to look ahead to "stay ahead"

Right now, spending time developing on the xbox360 is a step back. Why?

Because a majority of people are already losing trust on Microsoft, they are switching to PS3.

Not only that everyone who purchase xbox360 from launch and who still have a good system are already guaranteed that these things will break in 1 to 2 years.

Some of these people will switch to PS3.

If they do not switch they will still buy a PS3.

So in about maybe 2-3 years.

PS3 will outsold the Xbox360.

And if the developers had focus their energy on creating PS3 games now, then they will be a step ahead in upcoming years, which means it is good business.

And hes telling the truth. Thats why there has been literally no good games that are exclusives for it.

Those half life developers are used to developing on PC, of course they will say that its crap, since all they develop for is PC.

Actually no... The Xbox 360 is not like the original Xbox, a closed architecture Intel-based system. Microsoft has worked very hard to make sure the development environment for Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE are familiar to PC programmers though. So the tools, libraries and coding techniques don't require that they reinvent the wheel from its base molecules either.

This is what makes it so expensive to develop for PS3. A task that takes a couple of hours for Xbox 360, takes a couple of days to replicate on PS3 from scratch. Even if you take the "shortcut" of developing a game module or program component for Xbox first, then port it to PS3, it still takes three times as long to get it to work at all - let alone properly.

Sony made the same mistake with the PS3 that Sega made with the Saturn. They presumed that programmers and developers would welcome the "challenge" of working with multiple processors. They thought that since their company had "won" the previous hardware generation, it would take little or no effort to convince third parties to ignore other platforms and become PS3-centric. They believed their own BS. Uhm... No.

First off. the 65 chips dont prevent RROD. What was causing the RRoD was the heatsink sucked ***. They have corrected that problem with the 90 chips. All the 65 really does is run with less power and a tad bit cooler.

The PS3 is nothing more than an expensive paperweight when it comes to games. If it were not for the Blu Ray player, it would already be dead. An aquaintance of mine has a PS3. He is one of those if you've got something, he's got something bigger and better. You know the type. This is one reason I lothe the PS3. He always quotes stats and specs, yet, every game that is released across both platforms runs smoother (60 frames/sec anyone) and looks better on my weak little 360. He has no real response for that. Multiple developers have expressed displeasure in developing for the PS3. The only ones that can are Sony, and there response is"We can, so why can't they? " Now, there is a company that cares about its fanbase. Maybe the PS3 is more powerful, but if nobody can tap it, what does it matter? The Xbox ran circles around the PS2, yet finished a distant 2nd last gen. Also, when the PS3 was released, it didn't recognize 720p HDTVs. It reverted to 540i, unless it was 1080p. I figure they've fixed it by now. I looked at heavenly sword at Target, it was just as jaggedy as a PS2 game. Oh well, the only thing that matters is the games. At least the PS3 has exclusives like Devil May Cry and Ace Combat. Oh wait, no they don't. Those are now cross platform. Well, there's Metal Gear, no wait, I believe that's gone cross also. You do have Metalstorm, a racing game that you can only race against other humans online, no in house racing for you. Then there's Warhawk, a game so shallow that it's online only. So Sony fanboys, go watch your Blu Ray movies(good luck in the format war), walk around in your virtual world, boast about your superior hardware, and wait for Sony to grace you with a playable game. Leave all the great games to us lowly 360 folks.

So, 2K, just keep doing what you are doing. Keep buttery smooth xbox 360 games coming, and then make them playable on the PixelStation 3.

First off. the 65 chips dont prevent RROD. What was causing the RRoD was the heatsink sucked ***. They have corrected that problem with the 90 chips. All the 65 really does is run with less power and a tad bit cooler.

Not everyone wants to pay that insane amount of money either. I know i have 0 interest in the ps3 unless its about 300 bucks. There is nothing for that system i feel i want atm. Do you know which systems have heatsinks? Nope. Most stores are still carrying old xboxs, refurbs. It will take like 1-2 years to get these old xbox with problems to phase out.

While a majority still have the old systems which are waiting to break very soon.

And the full fix is basically august of 2008 with the new designs and cooler chips.

So If i am Bill Gates, no i am not goin to lower price. I am losing Billions of bucks not only that i will need to pay new manufacturers for developing the new chips.

Its a platform game similar to Mario/Sonic/Crash.

But you can build the environments, add any type of stuff you want in the game.

And then once you finish building your environments, you can upload it. And then play it online with other gamers at teh same time. It is a multiplayer dynamic platformer.

And i would like to add that i must be a lucky one to still have the same 360 i bought when it first came out. I just seem to be lucky period i guess. Because everytime people say something bad about MS, XBox, Xbox 360, or games, i never have those problems. I just must be a lucky mutha*****.
And i would like to add i know 1 person whose had the 3RROD. And he said his brother got it. But both of them just turned it in for a new one. A cooler chip = no need for a heatsink, keeps the motherboard cool and basically the whole system cooler preventing all the problems of the motherboard warping when it overheats.

The 3RROD problem is caused when the system overheats and it warps the motherboard, causing it to bend, the bending then causes the connections on the motherboard and chips to disconnect.

When you have cooler chips the bending and warping will not happen, so the motherboard stays in its original state.

So then you do not get the 3RROD.

I will show you proof that people WILL buy PS3 just for littlebigplanet. Littlebigplanet is a Platformer game. What is a Platformer game? Super Mario? Yup. Sonic? Yup.

Guest what? those games are flagship titles for Nintendo and Sega back then. Nintendo sells TONS of Wii because of Mario and now they have added Sonic. Its a franchise that sells big bucks and it sells systems.

LittleBigPlanet WILL become a franchise for PS3. Believe it, its a killer title for PS3, that will
make all the mario/sonic fans buy the system.

da you're really making yourself look foolish here. Microsoft got the jump on the PS3 it's that simple. Yes they rushed the product but in the long run it may have just payed off for them. I PRAY this doesn't become a trend because we may see half-assed system after half-assed hitting the market. Sony's PS4 may come out and be a bigger hardware nightmare than the 360 ever could be just so Sony can get out first. I think, however, that the xbox's next incarnation wont have to go that route for the simple fact they really have the jump already.

No way Sony can come out with a system the same time Microsoft does unless it's like 10 years from now. Sony has quite a few years to go before they can recoup that dough. M$ has probably already got theirs. Infact, I believe GOW was supposed to have put them in the black, if it didn't Halo3 certainly did.

I thank microsoft for making the price of harddrives and memory cheap because of their bloated code which needs all this horsepower to even run decently while real operating systems can fly on the same hardware. I'm an Apple/Amiga/Sun Microsoft man. NEVER in my life cared for windows and the crappy PC hardware that floods the market (except the memory and drives). But even I must admit the xbox is just too much for the ps3 right now.

Also xbox live is 50 bucks for the year and to have someone be responsible for their actions by having to live with their name is WELLLLLLL worth it. That "1 billion" they are "losing" will be maneuvered , written off and cajoled to a point where it becomes transparent yet a badge of honor proving their commitment to the community and customers.

They jumped the gun really quick which caused them to build a crappy system using crappy hardware and manufacturing.

The result is that they may have sold a lot early on, but now the problems of releasing an untested product is coming up.

And now they are losing 1 BILLION dollars because of releasing the system early without proper testing.

This was a good move by M$ to try and get ahead of the PS3 by releasing it early, but it also backfired.

The only thing that is keeping M$ right now are the games.

But PS3 is Free.

I have been a subscriber to Xbox live since 2003. I love what it has to offer. I have downloaded TV shows/movies. Occasional free movie. I have about 16 xboxlive arcade games.

Yeah I would buy a PS3 also in a heartbeat. Every time I go into my local Gamestop I ask them to "convince" me to buy one and these guys can't even come up with reasons with a straight face. There's just nothing out there for it man. If there was one sports game that was a "must have" for ME (operative word being ME) then I'd have a PS3 sitting next to one of my 360s right now but there just isn't a reason for me to get one. I don't buy stuff for the sake of buying it (nobody mention Star Trek, ok I bought that for the sake of just buying something) you have to have something worth while. And the no rumble controller REALLY turned me off. I hear they are coming out with a rumble controller though so thats good. LittlebigPlanet will be like Mario to Nintendo. It is a game that will capture a lot of people and revolutionize platform gaming.

I have to say the Droid isn't trying to convice peeps to buy a PS3... but, the tide is turning toward the PS3 in many ways....

1) the world wide sales figures look bad for the 360... the unit can't break through in major continental markets: europe; japan; asia; australia and even saudi arabia.... 360 world wide sale are nonexistent even after being on the market for 2+ yrs.... I say by fall 2009 PS3 will be out selling the 360.... but that won't matter b/c by then MS will be starting the next campaign for the next (next )gen console: xbox 720.....:D (maybe they'll get the quality control right this time) and be equal to the PS3 tech.....

2) as far as programming for the PS3... the only folks that make that statement the most are EA developers... and we all know how smart/lazy they are.... LOL...:rolleyes: furthermore, what does it say 'bout the current ability of program/software engineers when they are face with advanced tech... but, don't have the wherewithal to take advantage of it....?!?!? that's why we keep complaining about next gen prices with the next gen game play....!!!! I want my game to push the limits of the programmers/dev imagination you can't do that with the 360... a la Assassin's Creed which can't fit all the content on the 360.....:thumbsdow which will only get worse as game get even larger.... Xbox360 in japan can't even reach the 1 million mark. And in the UK it is currently even with the PS3.

But the 360 is strong in the US.

Other than that, 360 is not really dominating worldwide...

Now if you include the 3RROD problems it has at home and then worldwide, you will see that this is a HUGE problem that can impact saleswise and the sales could easily plummet.

No my friend madden was built from the ground up using both systems, they couldn't get it to run smoothly or work with the 60fps on the PoS3 so they called in the sony guys and guess what....they couldn't get it to work as good either....again PoS....but if you re-call...PS2 was touted as the most powerful system last gen and what system always turned out better graphics? no need to name that but!....powerful system means nothing...its if they make the system developer friendly which sony hasn't done since ps1..remember ps2 no one really knew how to use at first....and thats why xbox has gradually been taking exclusives from sony because they are extremely developer friendly and they have so many 360's in households already....

All they have to do for xbox360 is compress all the audio files as well as textures. But then the quality would degrade, it won't sound or look as good.

Meanwhile for PS3, it will still sound and look good, but they will probably fix the memory problems by more caching and loading...

So whenever you move to a different large area, it would load the scenes etc..

So which one would people prefer?

Mario? People bought Wii because of Mario lol. Also look it Super Smash Brawl on Wii...almost all the characters are from Platformers, they even brought in Sonic. This game is a multiplayer game.

If you take a look at LittleBigPlanet, it is a multiplayer game AND you can customize your own characters... its like creating your own Mario or Sonic, you have all the control.

But how did it redefine the genre?

The two trigger system is nice but do they offer strategical advantage?

In UT3 they have primary and secondary weapons which you can use strategically.

For example:

The ray gun in UT3...its primary shot is a poinpoint fast shooting laser. The secondary shot is a slow moving large orb. You can fire the large orb in a group of enemies then follow it up and shoot it with the laser primary weapon and you can blow up this orb and turn it into some kinda bomb explosion attack killing everyone in the area.

Now this is weapon strategy. Does Halo have that? This is the main reason why i like UT is because the weapons involve strategy.

I think the forge feature is really good in Halo, so people can create their own MODS. Tho this has been in PC for a long time already. But it is a step ahead in FPS for consoles.

because its all around fun. You go around killing people in an arena type deal. You play with your friends. It doesnt have to redefine anything. It has to be fun. I only believe the hype of it sells well and no one plays it. I can log into Halo 3 right now and see well over 400k people playing. Its not hype, over rated? possibly, but its still fun.

People dont need to reinvent anything, they just need to make a fun game. I bought halo3, i am not a big fan of FPS's, but when i play on the weekends with my friends Co-op, i have a freaking blast.

like for example PS3 gets the 30 fps meanwhile Xbox360 gets 60fps. Is it really that bad to program in PS3 to get a 60 fps? i don't really know but with a powerful system they should be able to accomplish these things.


Hey PS3 guys. Welcome to our world last gen. The original Xbox was much more powerful than the PS2, but developers would make games for the PS2 and port it to the Xbox. Even though the games had better graphics on the Xbox, there was so much more they could have done with all that horsepower.

I just figured out how you argue....you read someones text and pick out something and try and use it to your favor....so you ask again how halo is good and how did it redefine? i'll repost and hopefully you'll re-read it and read it fully...all the stuff i'm explaining in here....most shooters copy or mimick from halo....

halo: redefined the FPS genre..totally...most of the shooters now-a-days either copy or mimick the control scheme, the regenerating health, the only able to hold so many weapons and grenades, the use of the two trigger system, the party set ups and almost all of the online capabilities that halo has helped or has created including matchmaking abilities....no FPS game has come close to the multiplayer capabilities that halo has created....online and off..... the ever expansive and intriguing storyline including being made into books(which are very good reads actually) and trying to be made into a movie....yes madden is the definition of a football sim or used to be....but as it has regressed...halo only progresses......including forge...which i explained earlier is similar to your fabled littlebigplanet like..as you play you earn "points" so you can change and build/rebuild the environment....another progression in the FPS genre.....also you asked do aliens really sound like the ones in halo...who knows guy? haha...so yeah...i guess we're just brainwashed.......

LittleBigplanet is a platform game similar to Super Mario games.

The difference is you get to build your own environment, save the environment upload it online so people can download nad play it.

THe game offers online multiplaer capabilities.

You can also create and customize your characters.

Unreal Tournament 3 is the father of all first person shooters. And it is goin to be on PS3.

Guess who made Gears of War? The same people who originally made UT... and Gears of War is using the UT engine.

Its going to the 360 too there just isnt much hype becasue the 360 already has plenty big time shooters. The 360 flat out has better esclusive games. Bioshock, Halo 3, and Orange Box were three AAA titles in a row then you are going to get Mass Effect, and Too Human right after that. Next year its Ninja Gaiden 2, and maybe Fable 2 might see 08. The PS 3's best exclusive IMO was VF 4 and it just came to the 360 with online play. Its kinda one sided when it comes to the games. The 360 is a must buy right now if you want elite games to choose from. The future is here the 360 is already two years old. I have already played three NBA games on it.

Digital this is the october sales. PS3 has been out almost a year and the PS2 is still selling better then it. If you dont see something seriously wrong then your just a blind man hoping for that nut.

I'd much rather the 2K8 group work just on my PS3 and that be it, so it can give the best game possible on my system. However, I know there are plenty of 360 users that wish the same for their console. So I beleive an equal amount of work should be done on the game for both consoles, instead of favoring one towards the other.

It should, but it wont. That would take longer, it would cost the gaming companies more money. Just design for 1 system and port it over. WHy would they devote all that time and money into it when they can just port it over?

PS3 is in serious trouble so gaming companies right now do not want to focus much on the ps3. Its understandable. I will not blame them 1 bit. I blame Sony for it. They aimed to damn high.

I don't own a PS3, but it's a good console. The problem with it is that it now has the lower install base, and based on reports, it's harder to developer for. Companies now develop for the XBox 360 and then port the game to the PS3. The port typically isn't as good, and takes longer to get to market. Thus the PS3 ends up with worse looking games that arrive 2 to 6 months later than their 360 counter parts.

For all you guys so high on your 360's. Microsoft hasn't exactly done us a favor. The XBox 360 costs EXACTLY the same price as a PS3 if you plan on playing it online. They just hide it better. PS3 online is free. Microsofte charges about $50 a year. Over 3 years, that's an additionall $150. Add that to the cost of your console! Couple that with the fact that they were so greed to get it to market early, and consumers have one of the worst performing consumer electronic products in history.

Neither company did themselves any favors. The only thing that happened is that Sony got a bit arrogant, and Microsoft got a bit lucky.

After all that is said, in the end... the Wii is still the #1 current generation console! LOL!!!

I think Wii's just a whole different target audience though. Its not a next gen system. ITs not a knock on the system, its doing wonderful things and i am thinking of picking one up very soon.

Its not really fanboyism, It is annoying playing on a system like Xbox360 with a ton of great games, but the system is really crappy and has so much problems such as freezing crashing, red rings dvd problems.

Developers should try to put as much effect on the PS3 because the system does not break.

It has around a 35% failure rate. Microsoft is taking 1 Billion in losses due to the failed hardware. That number is from Microsoft, not some analyst. The problems are real. I have had my console since launch, but it freezes at least once a day. I think the only reason that it has survived so long is that I keep my house 68 to 70 degrees, thus it can't over heat easily.

The PS3 started out at ridiculous prices. I recall them being as much as $700 at one point. They are now $400.

XBox360 started at $400. And is now $270, if I am not mistaken.

The Wii is a less expensive console that is the closest thing to virtual reality you can get at home. And I guess people like to do that kind of stuff... I personally like to sit ddown and press some buttons, but as the sales info states, I am a minority.

The 360 is not a transitional system. The reason that the better games are on the 360 is because its easier to make games for.

Why should developers even try to make games for the PS3 when its so hard to make games for the PS3, and barely anyone has PS3s??? Everyone has a Xbox 360, so the devs should spend more time on consoles that have the most customers.

MS right now is in it to get a huge piece of the gaming market. They designed a flawed system, but its still beating the ps3 and kicking the living crap out of it. I would still buy a ps3, but not for gaming.

The motion detection capabilities of the Wii are what make it the only real next generation gaming system. The graphics capabilities are superior to both the XBox and the PS2. It might not be as powerful as the XBox 360 or the PS3, but it brings a lot more true innovation to gaming than either of those consoles. The XBox 360 and the PS3 are basically replicating what the PC has been doing for years. Boring.

There are games on the Wii that you will never be able to play on the other systems, because of the motion sensing and full 360 movement detection. Conversely, games from the other consoles could be dumbed down graphically or feature wise to play on the Wii (most are). The Wii is the 'easiest' and 'cheapest' system to develop for out of all 3 'current gen' consoles that are on the market (sorry, but next gen was 2 years ago).

I have about 30 games on my XBox 360, and only about 6 on the Wii. The difference is that the quality of the 6 games on the Wii is superb on EVERY game, where as at least half of my XBox 360 titles are questionable. The quality to junk ratio for video games seems to be higher on the Wii, even though the number of titles available (for now) is lower. Personally, I like that approach. Quality, over quantity.

I'll buy a PS3 soon too, but since they took out backwards compatibility on the latest versions, I won't be purchasing, until it's $299 with HDMI support. There is a $299 version now, but it's my understanding that it lacks HDMI support.

I just went to Gamestop, and this was the 1st time isnce the Wii came out that I went to one that it in stock. Some lady bought the last one just as I walked in.

I have a 40 yr old freind who is not a gamer. Told me bout playing the wii Demo w/ super Mario at a local store and he thought it was great.
