Keep in mind the physics of this game. All situations depend balance. The instructions say to "feather" the stick when you're in the pocket as a QB. This allows you to go through your progressions and make a strong throw.
Now when you're on the defensive side, and you want to cause a fumble, you should not be pressing the LS and the RS when you want to hit a ball carrier squarely. The ideal way to make a supreme big hit is to click the RS only. Don't use the LS. It will take your defender off balance. Line up the ball carrier, let go of the LS, and click th RS. This is very risky but highly rewarding.
The same can also be applied to a ball carrier. For instance, when you are a RB that is getting tackled. Usually you will get an opportunity to tap the A button to breach the tackle. If you're pressing the LS in any direction and tapping A you will not breach the tackle. If you let go off the LS then tap A (basically you're only pressing A for 2 seconds) you will most likely breach the tackle.
