Program History
The South Florida Bulls are a Division I FBS college football program that plays its home games in Tampa, Florida. The team began playing in 1997, holding its first team meeting under a shade tree as the school had no proper football facilities on campus.[1] Jim Leavitt is the only head coach in the program's history. After competing their first four years as a Division I-AA (now Division I FCS) independent, the Bulls moved to Division I-A, now Division I FBS, in 2001 but remained independent. They joined Conference USA in 2003 until becoming a member of the Big East in 2005.

The Bulls' starting quarterback for the 2007 South Florida Bulls football team is sophomore Matt Grothe, who was awarded the Big East Rookie of the Year award in 2006 after being the most productive freshman in total offense with 258.5 yards per game.[2]

South Florida has earned a lot of press coverage for their upsets of Top 25 ranked teams such as West Virginia (in 2006)and Louisville (in 2005).

USF won its second ever bowl game with a victory over the ECU Pirates on December 23, 2006 in the Papajohns.com Bowl. The previous year, USF lost to the NC State Wolfpack in the Bulls first-ever bowl game, the 2005 Meineke Car Care Bowl.

South Florida just too dominant for Bearcats, Bulls win 41-21

To start the game the South Florida and Cincinnati had their work cut out for them as it started in the middle of a storm leaving the players in a down pour and the field soaked. The rain proved to be a factor early as South Florida picked off a miss fired pass, but then gave it right back on a Matt Grothe fumble at the 2 yard line. Again the rain would be a problem as South Florida's Mike Jenkins picked off the very next pass and took it to the house to make the score 7-0. The Bulls of South Florida would force a 3 and out and then drive down to the Bearcats red zone before Marcus Edwards would fumble the ball, which corner back Mike Mickens would take all the way back for the score to tie the game at 7. South Florida would take that personal as they would answer back with 20 unanswered points. Cincinnati would try and come back late in the game with an interception return but the Bulls would answer back point for point.

Started slow but South Florida continued to roll winning 28-12

For the first time this season the South Florida Bulls were shutout in the opening quarter. The Defense for both squads played an exceptional quarter, keeping each other out of the endzone. South Florida ended that drought quickly as they scored a quick 14 points, both touchdowns off of turnovers. Syracuse got a couple scores off of 2 turnovers as well, but unfortunatly for the Orangemen it wa only 2 field goals. The Bulls defense, even with their backs against the wall, played a great game and kept Syracuse out of the end zone except for one pass in which there were a couple of missed arm tackles. In the end the Bulls were showing the poll voters why they belong in the same sentence as Michigan and Oklahoma. Even though South Florida has beaten 4 previous ranked teams, they have a big test next week facing #3 Louisville.

haha i only beat them by 4, sounds like they were somwhat evenly matched.

This is crazy, everyone remember the ceder fires of 04 in san diego, evacuated half of san diego and burning scripps ranch, well we have them going again with wind gusts from 50-70MPH, we are 0% contained, its been going since yesterday and they cant do anything to it since the wind is so high. so if i go AWOL its because i am getting a reverse 911 call to evacuate. but until then ill be updating, haha

Bulls make this a statement game and blow out Louisville 41-11

The Bulls came out on fire today as they tried to show the media and coaches that they are a top team. The South Florida offense came out in their oppening possesion and scored a quick touchdown to pump up the home crowd. The Bulls' defense came out and shut down the potent Cardinal offense and forced the 3 and out, but Grothe would turn the ball right back to the Cardinals with an interception. With the ball in the red zone already the Cardinal offense thought scoring was a definate possability until Mike Jenkins picked off a pass a returned it to the opposing 32 yard line. The South Florida offense would take that momentum and run as they would put up 24 unanswered points in the 1st half. The Cardinals would open the 2nd half by returning the kickoff but that seemed to be the only spark and the Bulls would prevail.

USF dominates Pitt in hopes of jumping up to BCS game, 76-14

USF came out today on a mission. Mind you while you look at the score and stats that it was 17 degrees and snowing. The USF Bulls came out tonight and did not turn the ball over and scored and every single possession, keeping their punter on the bench. Matt Grothe was on fire and flat out unstoppable all night, for the first time he did not throw an interception all game. Matt also set a school record with 4 rushing touchdowns, when asked about the record Matt had this to say "I just got lucky, two of the runs we just happened to be so close that a QB sneak was the best call". Shawn Cannon also jept his hot streak alive as he continues to play well for the injured back, Plancher. The Bulls defense only had two hiccups of long touchdown runs, other than that the Pitt offense never got passed the 50.

id love to up the difficulty, but considering im on heisman, you know there isnt quite another level to go up to. i agree with hussla, i was lucky to come away with the win against WVU and Auburn, USF is just good in this game. Grothe can run and pass and their receiver core is great. besides the fact that my defense usually scores 14-21 points in those blowouts. sorry about the blown up scores on some games but i play 6 minute quarters so that i can get realistic rush and pass attempts, as well as defensive tackles all being realistic. and Pitt SUCKED!!!!!

South Florida Shocks the World!!!

This might have been the best game ever played for a national championship. Tonight's game was neck and neck and hard faught all game long. Michigan came right out of the gates and scored in their first possession in only a minute and a half. Led by Matt Grothe, South Florida came out with a swagger, but that swagger was shut down after a 3 and out. The Wolverine defense came to play and they showed that they were going to make Grothe beat them and shut down the running game. South Florida would stop Michigan and score in the following possession on a 12 play drive. The game would enter half time with a tie score, but South Florida would get the ball and put a quick field goal on the board. Mike Jenkins would then prove why he is the Jim Thorpe Award winner as he would take Chad Henne's pass to the house the other way, putting the Bulls up by 10. With the game seeming to be in hand, the South Florida would cough the ball up twice giving Michigan great position and would give up 14 unanswered points. Down 4 with 2:30 left on the clock, Grothe would force the ball an throw his first interception of the game. The Bulls defense would come up big and hold the Wolverines to a field goal giving South Florida the ball with 1:17 left and 2 timeouts. Grothe put the INT behind him and would put together pass after pass before getting to the 30 and stalled. After a penalty and a couple incomplete passes, Grothe and the Bulls were faced with a 4th and 15 from the 35, Grothe would somehow avoid two blitzing linebackers and find Cedric Hill exactly on the 20. With only 7 seconds left and on the 20 yard line, down by 7 points Matt Grothe went up to Taurus Johnson who had the ball in the endzone but lost it on his way down, leaving :01 on the clock. On the last play in regulation Grothe spun out of a sack and fired a bullet to Antwon Hanks who had to stretch the ball over the pylon to score and tie the game. Going into OT Michigan won the toss and elected to be on offense first? That would prove to be a fatal mistake as Mike Hart would lose a yard on the first play and Chad Henne sacked on the next. The Wolverines did pick up enough on 3rd down to put their kicked back into field goal range, but he would push the kick and hit the right bar. On the first play from scrimmage the Bulls would pick up 20 yards on a Plancher screen play, and after a couple running plays, they would win the National Championship with a Teachey field goal.

2008 South Florida Season Preview

http://www.thefinestawards.com/images/custom-coaches-lg.jpg
2007 National Champions

The South Florida Bulls are still on living off of their unbelievable win against the #1 team in the nation the Michigan Wolverines. Looking forward to 2008, the Bulls had a pretty decent off season, landing the #23 recruiting class in the nation. They started their off season great as they persuaded every underclassman to return and only lost seniors to graduation. Looking forward to 2008, the Bulls did lose 3 senior contributing corner backs but added 3, 3* corner backs, 1 starting and 1 starting nickel back. The Bulls also added some depth to their wide receiving core since they will be losing atleast their top 3 receivers due to graduation. Returning for his Junior season is the great leader, Matt Grothe and also returning from his injury is Moise Plancher and Shawn Cannon will back him up for his senior season. All in all the Bulls vow to be back in the BCS, but the road will be tough as they face 4 preseason top 25 teams.

South Florida depends on defense and kicker to pull out win

This was a tough game from the start against the Colorado Buffaloes. The Bulls came out big today as they held Colorado to a 3 and out in their opening drive. Grothe would lead the Bulls down the field but would slow down around the 30 and had to settle for a field. On the following possession freshaman Jarod Richard picked off #7 pass and took it 62 yards to the house to put the away team up by 10 late in the 1st quarter. The Buffaloes would answer back with a touchdown and after a South Florida fumble deep in their own territory, Colorado would add another touchdown and take the lead. Grothe would quickly answer back as he lead the Bulls down the field and got Plancher in the endzone this time. Cody Hawkins would throw yet another interception, this time to another freshman Kevin Young and Delbert Alvarado would add another field goal to make it 20-14. The defense for the Bulls would come up big in the second half as they held Colorado out of the endone, and the leg of Alavardo would add 3 more field goals to win the game 29-17.

Defense comes up big for Bulls as they beat Georgia

The South Florida Bulls kept their streak alive as they have won their last 15 games including the national championship. South Florida came into this game by getting a quick 3 and out followed with a Matt Grothe interception. With great field position the Georgia Bulldogs were able to come away with 3 points to put them on the board first. Matt Grothe would put that interception behind him and drive down the field before throwing a touchdown pass to Rhett Hamrick, followed with a Delbert Alvarado field goal. The Bulls had a 10-6 lead going into half time where Coach Lovitz must have made one hell of a speech. Coming into the second half sparked with momentum the Bulls put up 17 quick 3rd quarter points and held the Bulldogs out of the endzone. During the stand Carlton Williams and Freshman Kevin Young both came up with big interceptions to give the Bulls the advantages in fiel position. The Bulldogs would add 14 more points on a couple defensive blunders, but the Bulls would add another touchdown and keep the game out of reach.

This has to be by the far the most unrealistic dynasty ever made on the 2k forums. You have got to be kidding me. A South Florida team that has 2 losses on the season all the sudden goes completely undefeated and wins the NC? Umm how about no fuccin way.

Huge fourth quarter blows out Badgers

This was actually alot closer than the scoreboard showed it today. In fact Wisconsin lead South Florida by 10 at halftime. That changed quickly in the second half when Matt Grothe quickly snapped out of his funk that he was stuck in earlier and lead the Bulls offense up the field only to be capped off by one of four touchdowns by Moise Plancher. Where most saw to be the turning point, Carlton Williams intercepted Allan Evridge's pass and took it all the way to the house for six. That seemed to be all the Bulls needed as they used that momentum shift and added another touchdown before the fourth quarter where they would put up another 21 points to make it look like a blow out.

Defense bails out slow offense, Bulls win big

The South Florida Bulls have been anchored by their defense for the past two seasons and tonight as no different. Freshman Jarod Richard came up big again as he intercepted a 3rd down pass and took it 62 yards the other way to put the bulls up by 6. South Florida came up again with another stop this time on a punt, and on their next play from scrimmage Matt Grothe found Marcus Edwards who broke a tackle and found the endzone 40 yards later. With the score putting the Bulls up 14-0 it looked as if they were going to score 50 points, but Grothe did not continue to play very well throwing two 2nd half interceptions. However the Bulls' defense would help out the offense as they would score one more touchdown when Tyler Richards would take an interception to the house. The defense would only give up 3 points and that wouldn't come close.

Defense scores moore than the offense for Bulls to pull out win

The Bulls defense came out today to prove that they haven't lost a step and after tonight you might hear that this defense is better than last year. South Florida came out strong as they stopped the potent Louisville offense in a 3 and out to start the game. Grothe was able to lead the Bulls for a couple first downs but then stalled and when punting they downed the ball on the 2. Twp plays later Chris Robinson blitzed through the line and came up with the sack for a saftey. With the score 2-0 the defense came through again as Carlton Williams jarred the ball loss on a big hit and George Selvie picked up the pigskin and took it to the house making the lead stretch to 9. Later, with the score now 9-3 Tyler Richards came up big again as he picked off the pass and brought it back again pushing the lead to 13. Louisville did fight back with a couple touchdowns but it wasn't enough to put away the Bulls.

Wildcats hang tough but Bulls just too much

On paper it looked as if South Florida would dominate this game and wind up blowing out Kentucky. In the first quarter it looked as if that might be true, South Florida forced a 3and out, scored a touchdown and knocked Curtis Pulley out for 4 weeks. In the second quarter the teams would exchange field goals and would enter the second half with the score 10-3. The Bulls would answer quickly with a long touchdown pass to Taurus Johnson. However Kentucky would answer back all second half with the running game, and Alfonso Smith would put one in the endzone, pulling within 7. That would be the end of the scoring and South Florida would pull out the win.

Box Score
Kentucky 0 | 3 | 7 | 0 | 10
South Florida 7 | 3 | 7 | 0 | 17

South Florida crushes Pitt

This game actually started off to look like it was going to be close. After the Bulls defense forced a 3 and out, Matt Grothe ran in a scorefrom 8 yards out and put the Bulls up by 7. Pitt answered back with a long pass to play to Oderick Turner who took it all the way to knot the game at 7. Delbert Alvarado came through for South Florida in the following possesion with a 54 yard field goal to put the the Bulls up by 3. After that the Bulls never looked back as Moise Plancher continued to run well and Grothe would only miss 1 pass, in which he threw the ball away avoiding the sack.
