October 31, 2003 - In a surprise move, ESPN Videogames will be announcing later today that ESPN College Hoops will feature a slam dunk contest called Slam Session in their game for both the PS2 and Xbox.
The dunk contest will be online enabled, and there will be four unique styles of gameplay including Beat the Clock (best dunks in a given time), Style (most points), Horse, Dunk 'O War, and Championship (all around).
The dunks are performed by pressing a series of buttons in a given amount of time, almost like pulling off a combo in Tekken. For example: You press the trigger to run toward the basket. On the floor you'll see a takeoff point for your dunk. You have from the point you start to the takeoff point to press the correct button sequence and fly through the air for the jam. Hit the wrong buttons and you'll never leave the ground. Do everything in time, though, and you might pull off a tomahawk, take the ball between your legs ala J.R. Rider, or go up for a 360. The more complex the move, the longer and more complex the button sequence.
To add to the gameplay, you can work in adrenaline to increase the size of your takeoff point, or even backup a bit before starting your run. Back up too much, though, and the judges might not give you the props you deserve for the dunk.
