View Full Version : Help me figure this out. User ILB

Ok so on D I always play as the ILB. I've always used Mike Singletary. Love him, he's a beast. But it got in my head the other day that I might be wasting a gold player if I'm always controling him. Would it be better in your opinions if I used a genric or bronze ILB and use my Gold on another, computer controlled, postion? What do you all think?

I have never understood why someone would waste a pick on a gold and then control him all game LOL. The reason for having a Gold defender is so that you hopefully don't have to worry about him making mistakes so you can help user control other weaknesses on your defense. If you want Singletary because of signal stealer you can get that with Scott Studwell a bronze ILB.

I played a guy a week or so ago that was manually controlling Singletary and he was everywhere. Stuffing the run, batting passes down, etc. You gain speed when you control a legend and you really can shut the run down without worrying about a gold HB shedding your tackles for the most part.
Do you feel that you do a better job at controlling him than the computer does?

I control Dave Wilcox and hit helps me immensely in the passing game. I can shut down the middle of the field.
Against the run it is good and bad.

The CPU controlling any of your players automatically is a drop off IMO. The A.I sucks. Unfortunately it has to control some of them.

I ALWAYS pick a Gold ILB but I always play on the D-line...the ILB usually plays well enough on his own...also, solid D-line play only enhances what a ILB does naturally anyway...remember how much less effective Ray Lewis became without Tony Siragusa?

For me it depends on the situation of the play I'm in.

I never control anyone. It's pure play calling.

i can vouch for fran wilcox is everywhere on that damn field.
What a gold player offers a defensive person who controls them is more control, momentum speed and reaction time, if you control a generic or bronze or silver you lose a lot of that or a combination of.
I use Derrick thomas all day and i can stop the run or pass with him pretty well, but sometimes my minds just assumes too much and i get out of the play but when you want a sure tackle atleast you are using a gold.

User controlling a player allows you to put a surge in to him by charging. That is what makes user controlling a defender beneficial compared to CPU defenders. By charging you're defender you power his move. You don't even have to use the LS to move him. Let the CPU do it for you. By simply charging your defender and then pressing the proper button i.e. LB to swat pass, RB to swim D- lineman. Even defenders that don't have a 2nd level special ability, are still influenced by the charge.
I keep my strategy on D simple. Take control of Reggie White, hold A when ball is snapped, then press LT for his second level club move. If I know where my opponent is going to throw the ball then I'll take control of a safety and go for the pick. Timing my LB/ RB move based on whether or not he throws a bullet or lob pass. If it is a bullet pass I'll press LB/ RB quickly. If it is a lob I'll press LB/RB a second later.
If you're controlling a LB you will always be able to bump the TE by strafing and pressing the LS in the proper direction.

Yeah I feel like I can shut down the middle of the field on passes and on runs I do ok. About 50/50 sucess rate of being in the right postion. Sometimes I completely over run the play. I just tried a bronze ILB and it felt about the same. I used the gold star on rod woodson and he got me 2 intros. Seemed like a great trade off.
The only reason I like controling the ILB is to shut down the star TE that I always used to get burned by online. *Sigh* still I really like mike singletary. And yeah I like play stealing. Although I've noticed that sometimes that messes me up more if I know the play, as stupid as that sounds. (Steal the play and its a run to the left and I completley over play the left and the RB cuts back where I'd normally be.)

I control Brian Bosworth, who is amazing, because its so smooth when you control him with his "Quick Feet". Or I also control a generic MLB, and usually take on the lead blocker so that my gold and silver OLBs can make the tackle.

Smooth you say? That sounds really good. I'll have to try Brian Bosworth. I tried using a genric ILB and that just plain sucked. He was soooooo slow to do anything.

Yep, so much less effective that he won a defensive player of the year award without him. People have it wrong about Lewis not being able to deal with blocks and not being blocked in 2000. For a peak check out these two playoff games during the 2000 season. You will see Lewis deal with blocks and at times get blocked, but you will also see crazy closing speed.

I will testify to this dude, probably the best person online I've seen with Wilcox, I could not pass for anytihng in the middle of the feild nor run my toss plays.
But...... You know I adjusted, started running it up the middle and using alot of bunch formations for confusing.
All and all frant. is a good player, we had a good game I came out on top and we definately need to run it again

Yep, those really screw with me, but I'll get better against the run sooner or later. I wasn't always that good against the pass, but I got used to it. Hopefully in time I'll learn how not to over run the RB.
Add me to your friends list I forgot if gamertag has a space or something. We need to run our games back.

its so hard to not over run the rb, and then i get nervous just trying to run into them or diving too late or early lol, this a problem with videogames not that much control and feel to get everything calculated right.

Yep. I think against running teams I should just control teh generic MLB and let Wilcox roam free.
BTW too bad our game got disconnected !!

The thing with going back to generics is that they are too slow and unresponsive, i got spoiled with Derrick Thomas.
yeah seriously, i wanted to make a damn comeback, i just needed a TD and a FG, i had enough time. Not saying your D sucks just saying the possibility.

He's done. But Boller is not the answer either unfortunately. Rolle is probably done as well : ( In Rolle's case I hope the guy gets better and not for football, but for life in general. Ogden is done too :( Lots of cap space freed up though.

That is impossible, unless you have a stacked D. Because, the defense is not very good in this game.

My boy Troy Smith is just waiting for his turn, and soon, it will be. I have a good feeling this is McNairs last years starting, if not playing all together, and after Boller blows it out of the water again, Troy will be there to remind everyone why he won the Heisman. He is a great player. Only reason he went so late was because of his height. Drew Brees is a short QB, yet look at how good he is..... Everyone will see, Troy is gunna take over and bring the Ravens back to glory.

He might do it but not while Brian Billick is there. No QB has succeeded in his system since he has been in Baltimore. QB's come to Baltimore to die and that's what has happened ever since the Dilfer debacle.
