View Full Version : I run up the score on chumps

I know running up the score is taboo. I don't do it on my friends online, and my friends (like Boffa, whom ya'll seem to dislike, you jerks) don't do it on me. But when I'm playing some jerk who goes for it on every 4th, right out of the gate, or someone who tries an onside kickoff every time...I will score touchdown after touchdown. There is a method to my madness. I am praying, and hoping, and praying some more that they just quit and spare me an hour of lost existence. We're only on this planet a short time. I'm 38 man, I don't have time to sit and beat some dude for hours because he doesn't have a clue. Yesterday, I played this guy, the final score was 70-0. That is a fact. He never quit. I have 42 by halftime. 42-0 man. He kept playing. Wife is like just kneel it, and I said no, the heck with him, he must be punished for wasting my time. And waste my time he did. Every time he had the ball, every 4th down, go for it, I score. Repeat. I get other dudes, they do other meaningless crap, has nothing to do with football...and my only goal is to make them quit. Sometimes they don't. When they do I give them positive feedback and tell them thank you. I don't have time to play weenies or little kids. I just don't. Fact.

That was a touching post! lol

Ya, I don't believe in crying because of running up the score. I have an idea on how to stop it!
Just play some defense!

Honestly, I've quit on dudes who are just bad. When I'm winning even, I can tell they're just bad, and I quit, there's no point. It's a waste of my life on this earth.

LOL........I have a very good solid group on my friends list. So Hopefully I will survive.

I think it is mostly the kids on here that don't like me..........what am I going to do.

The funny thing is that when I make a statement of what I feel is a glitch, alot of people get all whacked out about it.

For example, I see people on here complaining about stupid stuff like:

1. WTF....why did you give me a neutral....you are cheese

2. Earl is cheese.

3. Rice is cheese.

4. That guy ran the same play all game and I was too stupid too figure out how to stop it, so he is cheese.

I have never complained about anything unless it is truly a glitch in the game.

The main thing I have called out as cheese and complained about is out of position Substitutions on offense because, this game does not recognize them. So, the defense gets confused as to what players will truly be on the field.

And I have only given a couple out of probably 100 people that do this a bad review.

Well, I'll tell you what. I'm about harmless when played fair. It is nearly impossible to get a "good" game anymore. I've intentionally not been playing this week to see if I can contain my anger somewhat. Speaks volumes....rated miserably, barely ever manage to win a game, and constantly playing garbage online doesn't exactly make me feel good. :(

Online isn't that bad, especially if you play lobby games. I think you just get frustrated too easily, and then fall into behavior that only exasperates the situation. I've been rather pleased with the way the majority of the guys play online, especially after I started playing lobby games and making sure the guys approval rating is 80% or greater.

It is getting harder to get a good game these days, plus there seems to be a bigger gulf between good players and those who are very poor.

On the thread topic, hell yeah, its your right to run the score up if you want. I don't personally, but what's the difference losing by 7 points or 37 points? If you get beat, just try and learn and get better.

Alot of the time, if I am playing a much superior player and losing heavily I'll hang in there, analyse what my opponent is doing and see if it'll work for me.

Turn a negative into a positive.

No hes accurate, I stopped playing online period. I have lost many games because I play sim against cheesers and again and again. People go for 4th down and cheese the game because they know that if they play by the rules they lose. I lost many games because their are cheaters and cheesers that deem it fair to do so. And run the score up too which is a **** move. I dont know what online section you go on but the one I use to go on does it alot. it gets sick now i play call of duty4 and halo 3 thats it...

I might rent Call of Duty. What is it like?
The movies are nice, but every game seems to place more time in movies rather than actual game play?

The game looks interesting because I'm a Ghost Recon player, but Call of Duty looks like it extends what you as a player can do: Parachute in, control vehicles, etc...

Am I on mark or a little over?

I have played Numbski, and I can tell you that he's a Sim player, but he's his own worst enemy when it comes to losing a game. He gets frustrated and gives up WAY too easily. He finishes his games, but he doesn't play them all the way through. I think if he'd play the game all the way through and not give up, he'd win a more often and enjoy the game more.

Well I don't believe in quitting. The only time I was blown out by that many points was 2k5 with a person who used every glitch in the book. But... I kept playing to learn the glitch and used the knowledge to beat future games played with that style.

As for the actual true game players... I've been down early and people would flick the QUIT menu up in my face in the 1 st quarter. They did this because they didn't know some of their scoring that looked easy from lack of knowledge happened from pressing the wrong button or pressing a button at the wrong time. This still happens. You would see a Safety or LB fall because as I'm assigning something the ball is hiked. And I don't go down the line changing every individual player like many people do.
Anyway, I came back and beat the guy. And guess what...
He was trying a no huddle to drive down the field and I INT'd his pass to seal the game.
Suddenly... ** Connection Lost **

My first game with 2k8 a guy kept wanting to quit and get the credit while he was ahead.
When I went ahead he didn't want to quit.
He eventually, regained the lead and it was a good game, but he had too much going on with people seemly coming to his house. Way too many pauses. But I told him if he is busy we can mutually quit and meet up again. Eventually, he did just that.

My point?
I won't quit the game unless it is mutual.
We are going to meet up with both superior players and players who offer us no competition. But I still say just finish the game.

We can't talk about SIM only to leave LOOPHOLES in our theory.
NFL teams don't just walk off the field because of blowouts and I don't think we should either.

Try running some plays you don't run often.
Try learning more about your generic players.
I mean the time doesn't have to be wasted if we use it as a real time practice to see how things work.

I haven't seen a generic player play at the same level as they do in practice so I would use this time to test them out.

Quitting is no fun. Bored or not.

As aggravated as that game made you. It stands to reason to ask the question, "Who really punished who?".

I was the one punished, without a doubt--winning like that isn't what I consider "fun". And I think most people are forgetting that I'm not talking about them. It's a rare thing...but the fact is, if you're down 14-0 in the first quarter it is NOT time to start going for it on 4th and 20 on your own 10 yard line. Most of these games (running up the score) are not games where I gained huge yardage--they are games where players failed to convert 4th downs on their own side of the field or tried unsuccessful onside kicks etc. They deserve to be scored on and I have every right to try and make them quit so I can play a more interesting game.

That being said, there is a huge difference, as some have already mentioned, between that and simply getting blown out because your opponent is better. I have played several players on these forums (you know who you are) where I've been getting beat down hard and knew I wasn't going to win. I finish those games also, as we all should...but I do not start going for it on every 4th down in the 1st or 2nd quarter just because I'm losing. That only makes the situation worse. Much worse.

My post was not meant to be some type of a-hole, despite how it may have sounded. But there is a certain frustration level in spending an hour playing someone who is going to go for it every 4th etc etc. In fact, the last blowout I had the guy not only went for it every 4th down, he tried some glitch where the QB would under throw it deep every time and get pass interference penalties. That just isn't fun, win or lose.

In the end I can see why it's frowned upon (running up the score) because if Boffa or Crazed Psycho or a few other players ran it up on me it would be hard for me to think of them the same way. The difference is I punt the ball and try and play defense and try to play as straight up as I know how. The fact is, I'm not that good, I shouldn't have to waste an hour of my life beating up some 6 year old who hasn't learned how to play and probably doesn't know the rules to begin with. I'd rather even quit than win 70-0.

other than halo 3? Call of duty 4 is one of the best first person shooters you will ever hold online is better as well and to knock on wood i have yet and i mean yet find a glitch like call of duty 3. Photo realistic im serious it's not even like the other call of duties. And dont get me started on assassin's creed. No vehicle controls though it's mainly war on ground and stuff which is new to tell the truth. I thought it was eh before I brought it but this thing seriously did not want to say it is simply giving halo 3 a run for it's money. Matter fact I have both games. They are tied.

If your going for 4th down and it's in the 3rd and your down ok. If your going for it and your in the 4th quarter and you need to score? yeah go for it. But if your winning by a big margin? then punt.

What I am talking about is the ones that it's 5:00 in the first quarter and they could punt the ball away because thats how the game is played and then go for it on 4th down. thats what i'm talking and since those were the only ones I ever got thats how I explain it. I question their ablities to win when you have to steep that low in a game to do those things.

I question their ablities to win when you have to steep that low in a game to do those things.Going for it on 4th down isn't stepping lower, no lower than going for it on 3rd. There's a risk if you don't get it, you give up 40 yards to your opponent. I always go for it when it's 2 yards or less if I'm across the 50 yard line. Occasionally, if I get flustered/frustrated (say a penalty causes me to lose a down after I just converted for a 1st down on a 3rd down play) then I might go for it as well.

I used to think along the same lines as you. Maybe not exactly, but along the same lines, but not any more now that I know how to stop many of the short play conversions that 80% of the players use. Now though, if my opponents go for it on 4th down, that's there call, and there's nothing wrong with it. It's their game, their risk to take, and my responsibility to stop them. That's football.

Think about this for a sec. If running the score on the unskilled becomes commonplace, what happens? Those people stop playing. Some folks can take having it rubbed in their face that they have no skill, but alot can not.

Ok, so I sure some will say good riddance. But the bottom line is for APF to continue, 2k needs to know there is a large enough market to keep the franchise profitable. Discouraging average and casual players works against that. Bottom line, it winds up in the discount bin at Walmart and 2k says, "sorry, market not big enough, regardless of how passionate the fanboys are."

Want to keep your favorite football game alive and well? Then treat online players with respect, unless of course they start the BS first then its kick azz time.

Shields up, flame away.

Interesting thread but it should have been closed after wreakone's comment. You wont be in that situation if you challenged someone top 250, with feedback between 75% and 85%...That I can assure you...and dont give be that "I dont play low feedback" BS...They are just a little bit more aggressive for your numbski's and Co.

Sense made a very good point...You never quit no matter what. If you are up by a lot just start using random plays or new plays and it will be just as fun...Those WRS reverses and TE screens are a beauty to execute and actually works at times...

Agreed, I thought this thread was dead back in November when I started it. I don't run up the score on cheesers anymore by the way, I just quit.

The satisfaction of crushing a cheeser didn't equal the hour I could regain by just quitting.

Ya'll do realize this thread was created 4 months ago, right?
