ESPN NBA Basketball is so easy to me. Everyone on this board brags about always winning by 30. When I start a franchise mode, I win every game by 50-75 points, on the hardest level............WITH THE BULLS!!! If you need tips just ask.

I usually am humble but when it comes to this, put me in a countrywide ESPN NBA Basketball tournament and I can go deep. Too bad I only have dial up so I cannot play online.

Can you give me devensive tips that KBomber havent mentioned yet? That way, I'll be convinced that you are indeed a great player.

I didn't read all of KBomber's defensive tips but I read some. My tips are...

-Challenge every shot you can. If you challenge every shot right, the CPU player almost always misses. ESPN NBA Basketball is a game where unless you shoot the wide open shot or a layup, you will almost never make the shot. This is the same with the CPU. The only players that have any success when they're being contested that I remember are Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki who seem to hit fadaways constantly. Players like this are players that you want to use help defenders to run at or help defenders to make block attempts from the side when they're trying to shoot those fadaways.

-When a player is driving to the basketball and attempting a layup, it's important that if you're going to attempt to block the shot that you attempt early to jump because if you wait then you'll likely get a foul called on you or just simply get "Posterized." If you attempt the block earlier, your chances of success greatly increase. You'll block more shots and if you do happen to get a foul called on you, it won't be a 3pt play opportunity.

-KBomber probably mentioned this already but if you have a good defensive team, use man to man defense.

-If you give up a lot of dunks, layups, and easy drives, use the 2-3 defensive set. This will put your PF, C, and SF down low with your SG and PG at the top of the key. If a slasher or someone quick drives around your guards, your big men will be waiting for them in the key. The problems with the 2-3 defensive set is that your C may sometimes camp out in the key too long and draw a defensive 3 second call or two. If you still give up lots of layups and drives, there's a solution that will help that and the defensive 3 second problem. When the CPU sets up their offense and you set up your defense, manually control your C. If your teammates give up a drive, use your C to come and help. Just make sure you don't camp out in the key too long. Also, 2-3 defense is good for bad rebounding teams because there are three players close to the basket.

-If you give up a lot of jump shots to good perimeter shooters, use the 3-2 set. This puts your PF and C down low and puts the SG, PG, and SF out on the perimeter. These three players will help each other out guards the two or three perimeter players. The 3-2 defensive set is also good for teams that like to run fast breaks after they get a defensive stop and a rebound.

Did I leave anything out? Want any tips? Just tell me.

Wow I can't remember the last time I've been on these boards or the last time I've even played ESPN NBA Basketball, but you woke me from the dead lol. Not a moment too soon, one week before ESPN NBA 2K5 is out.

Anyway, if you want more offensive rebounds, then click to the nearest player to the ball after you shoot, it should click to one of your players near the basket. If you have the PS2 version, try to box out by pressing L1. If you want more defensive rebounds, then choose the 2-3 playset while on defenise. This puts your two guards at the top of the key and puts your center, along with your forwards down low. This gives you more rebounders and as a bonus, teams have tough times driving the ball to the basket against this playset.

If you have the PS2 version, you press square + x to throw an ally oop. Make sure you press those too at the same time and make sure the player you want to pass to is a good dunker and is preparing for an ally oop or lead pass.

To steal a pass, you have to anticipate the pass. On the PS2 version, press square to lunge toward the ball when a player near you passes. You have to do this quickly though.

You got any tips for penetrating through defense and getting easy layup/dunks. usually all of my shots r contested and i cant get any off

2-3 D is not good for rebounding -- man-to-man defense is.

Anytime you're playing a zone, your man is guarding an area -- not a player. So a player can easily get under the rim and pull down a board, because he is not being boxed out. In man-to-man defense, your team is guarding a player, and he knows who to box out.

I'm not saying they will not box out in a 2-3, but that it's harder to box out because of the fact they are not covering a player, only an area.

If you know everything about this game.

Why does the 24/7 mode freeze after a while once you start playing it?

I know it is a bug from hell, but is there anyway to fix this.

I am very sick of this game already because this game was rushed big time.

I am very disappointed with this game.

Question for you:

What is the best way to attack the 1-3-1 defense. My friend is killing me with that. The Pacers are unbelievably quick to the ball in that defense.

Question about Full Authority...

How come I cant' use KILLER J in midrange, or RAISE THE ROOF in close range? Alot of the options are greyed out and I can't access them. Every now and then I'll be able to do raise the roof with Lebron....but other options aren't accesible for me, like PAINT OWNERSHIP, HEAT CHECK....

At one point I had my Chemistry up to 97....I thought that would do the trick...but no....

What am I missing????

If you can answer this one ur a smart guy. Ok on the pro level I can move my offensive player around when I get some space. On Superstar it feels as if I cant move him at all. So I want him to have the freedom of pro but the challege of superstar and how do u make it to where they throw more alley oops.

OK I got one.

when playing Superstar I have a hard time beating people off the dribble. If I press hop step, I always get charge.

If I press Isomotion, they alwys steel or I get charged.

If I do beat the first guy, the next guy is there to block. So I try to beat him off the dribble and ... see above.

What do you do about that.

how do u increase speed in 24/7 mode? and whats the easiest way to get steals in 24/7 training? You can't. Your players speed in 24/7 is determined by his size and position. Easiest way to get steals? Well, the "Steal Dribble" one seems to be insanely hard, so I usually do the "Steal Pass" One and only get 1 or 2 steals per attempt, but it's better than nothing ;). As you get up higher, try doing "Steal Dribble." Stealing isn't really that neccesary, though, as 24/7 revolves around Offense/Defense.

how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? as much would as a wouldchuck could chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.

WASSUPWITDAT?! Well, I guess it really depends on your setting. I played a season with the Spurs for fun to learn some of their plays and was able to complete it. My suggestion? Compeletely sim a season with your options FIRST to see if you can play it when it comes time. Make sure you hit "Play Game" when you sim it there. If you can do it through sim, you can do it through play :P.

If you know everything about this game.

Why does the 24/7 mode freeze after a while once you start playing it?

I know it is a bug from [***] , but is there anyway to fix this.

I am very sick of this game already because this game was rushed big time.

I am very disappointed with this game. Not really, just save often. By often, I mean every time that you go up a Milestone, or every other. It's really up to you. I had problems with it as well, but I find that sometimes it works out to my advantage (Different Items, better Items :P). Sorry it disappointed you.

Question for you:

What is the best way to attack the 1-3-1 defense. My friend is killing me with that. The Pacers are unbelievably quick to the ball in that defense. Penetration. Give it to your best ball handler and force it to the inside, or quick post up, etc. Warning about quick post, though, it'll EASILY be stolen. If you have a premiere ball handler, such as Kobe, Wade, Etc., try to Isomotion it inside, also, don't forget to be aware of the defense, if you see them taking their pick early, step back, shoot the jump shot. Works 90% of the time. If you DO penetrate though, the greatness of this, penetrations opens up the offensive rebound lanes. If you DO miss, your team will have a better chance of rebounding. Not to mention, there is only ONE man guarding the Rim. Either Slam it in, or for extra measure, Hopstep/SpinStep around the center and go up with it. He'll either foul you, or you'll make it. Just watch the charge on the hopstep. This should make him switch to another D. If he does man, good. Do whatever you want. If he does 2-3, work the mid range jumps :P.

Killer J and the others aren't neccesarily just based on your chemistry and the executer's ability to do so, but much more how many shots you give them. I'm not sure how many it is for each thing, but experiment a little. You can always back out. Pretty much, the more shots on one person, the more they can do.

If you can answer this one ur a smart guy. Ok on the pro level I can move my offensive player around when I get some space. On Superstar it feels as if I cant move him at all. So I want him to have the freedom of pro but the challege of superstar and how do u make it to where they throw more alley oops. This is because of the HUGE difference in the computer AI. They actually attempt to guard you on Superstar. In my opinion, the shooting is more realistic, but the computer is like God when guarding, so if you want a more realistic game, I'd suggest playing on Pro with sliders.

Also, about the Oops, having teams that do them more often in real life helps out alot. You just have to get used to the postitioning and timing and get it down. I'm just now starting to get good with them :P.

I need defensive help, when someone is playing with Kobe or T-mac I double them all the time and they still hit 3's in my face.First of all, don't double. All that's doing is giving them an option to pass it away. If you are playing on Pro, that's a good reasoning enough for it. Players, despite their ratings, are able to hit things like Mad on Pro. Just try to contest it, and if they are three-balling it, 1-3-1 works pretty nice. (You'd have to change the play in the Coaching Menu) However, if they try to go inside, collapse to 2-3. If they kick it back out, switch to 1-3-1 again and so on. Pretty soon, they'll be begging you to play man :P.

Is there anyway to change non-created player's number? Nope, sorry. I've had problems with this, as well, in leagues and offline. Seems if you have Tim Duncan on your team and you get Kevin Garnett on the team with him, you have two Number 21s. Can't change it, though.

OK I got one.

when playing Superstar I have a hard time beating people off the dribble. If I press hop step, I always get charge.

If I press Isomotion, they alwys steel or I get charged.

If I do beat the first guy, the next guy is there to block. So I try to beat him off the dribble and ... see above.

What do you do about that.Don't play superstar against the computer or you WILL be owned :P. In fouls and the such, anyways. Always try to mix up your shots, don't always do the hotstep, and don't always try to penetrate. Pass the ball around more and have awareness when you try to do a stepback if they take the pick. Also, if they are on 2-3, don't charge unless you know that you can either 1) Draw the foul or 2) Make the shot or 3) they have a bad defensive team :P.

There you go, hope I've helped. Seems the Xray guy that started it isn't on that often, so I figured i'd answer some questions :P. Good luck.
