Big new today up in Easter Kentucky Unuversity. Coach Mahaney was fired after a dissapointing season going 7-18. The new coach Marty Whelchel is looking to turn this team around. There will be a press conference later tonight hopefully.

Tonight's press conference:
Reporter: Um, coach do you have any Idea on who your assistant coaches will be this year?
Coach: Yeah, We've hired Brad Weaver a very good recruiter, and Danny Yeager.
Reporter: What season are you trying to put together here?
Coach: Well we'd like to win at least 50% of our games, but I feel we can make a run at the NCAA tourney this year.
Reporter: Last question coach, when will you be releasing the season schedule and roster for this year?
Coach: In the next few days hopefully we'll have the schedule out, but I'll have to take some more time with the starting line-ups.

EKU takes care of SW Missouri State
Today EKU really showed what a new coach can do for a team, today's game featured EKU and SWMST (South West Missouri State) in the first round of the Coache's Classic. THis game was supposed to be close but EKU really to SWMST to school, lead by junior SG Alvin Anderson with 20 points EKU was able to put away SWMST wit ha final score of 61 to 48.
POTG- Alvin Anderson, 20 points.
EKU record: 1-0 (0-0)

EKU beats St. Louis in dramatic fashion!
The game was close all the way through both teams trading baskets, it was an offensive showdown. But when it reached the final 5 minutes things really heated up with three minutes to go the score was tied 6-62 when a St. Louis player hit a two pointer jump shot to give them their first leasd but when benchman Brook Merret landed a deep three pointer to give them back the lead it got exciting. But with 12 seconds left EKU was down one 69-70, that's when Alvin Anderson (who finished with 22 points and 4-9 three pointers) made a three pointer from the corner to give them a 72-70 lead and when St. Louis player Adam Blankenship missed the three pointer, and the put back was no good the crowd went wild, and their were many cheers for new coach Marty Whelchel.

Tuesday's Press Conference:
Reporter: Coach after starting your season off 2-0 and beating St. Louis, do you think your season will continue like this?
Coach: Yes I do, I've looked ato ur schedule and I feel even w can beat any of those teams.
Reporter: Even Kentucky and Florida?
Coach: Yes, I believe we can. My guys have worked hard this season and they have the most talent I've seen on any team I've coached!
Reporter: The big question if you get any offers for new teams at the end of the season, do you think you'd take them.
Coach: It all depends on the team, but if you were to bet on it I say you should bet your money on me stayin' because I just love it here.
Reporter: How far do you think you and your guys can go this season?
Coach: Well I think we can win this conference and go as far as the second round of the NCAA tournament!

Nice legacy. Glad to see somebody representing Kentucky in a non-UK/UL fashion. I was disappointed to see that WKU didn't make the schedule (I'm a Hilltopper ... sorry!). But a very cool legacy anyway.
BTW, I run a MM dynasty with Marquette, and EKU's finish was ungodly, something like 25-5.
