i just played a guy use 5 wrs every single play. drop back like 10 yards with no blitzing on my end. he had rice, maynard, and 2 bronze wrs, elway as QB. i was able to contain his offense in the 1st half. but not until he decided to use Elway drop back with 15 - 20 yards every play. i have woodson and hayes as my CB and tried every play i can think of. still didn't work. how do you stop this???

if your undermanned like that you gotta play zone every play. your guys arent skilled enough to keep up in 1 on 1 man coverage so everyone needs to work together to keep the field covered. what i do most of the time is pick cover 4 and take the safeties and either make them guard the star wr's in man coverage or i move them manually and setup zones to plug the holes. sometimes if they throw alot of short/med passes over the middle i use cover 3

The best defense is a good offense.

i played zone the whole game already. but when Elway dropped back for 20 yards, Rice or Maynard will find a way to catch it

i put up 42 points already. the only drive i didn't score was a miss FG, every other drive was a TD. lost the game by a 2 point converstion. my point is not finding how to play good D, i just want to know how to stop this kind of play

clock management.
His defense was easy... you scored on every play you said. So you should have made sure you had the last possession.
No defense can stop 5 wide if you don't have all legend DBs, even then tough task.

If he is dopping back 20 yards every play then just run a max zone with a 2 man rush. Thge windows will be small for him and the ball will take too long to get to his recievers allowing your defenders to easily make the play. It should shut him down.

You guys are underestimating the power of the WR's in this game. Yeah the windows can be small, but I know exactly what he means by Rice and Maynard find a way to catch it. Even in the small windows the WR's warp to the football and the defenders just stand around.
To the original poster, what defensive set and coverages were you running? Secondly was he primarily hitting short or deep, middle or perimeter passes?

IMO don't play Hayes in zones, he was a man-to-man corner, instead, get Barney or Renfro who both play zone really well. Renfro plays like he has ball hawk and is smoother than Barney, so I reccomend him.
P.S. Ball Hawk really helps in zone coverage, cause they play the ball really well, which is exactly what you need in zones.

I'de say jump some routes or bait him into throwing into a spot and go in for the INT. If you can get an int or two and he cant stop you, you win the game.

I've noticed that Barney bites hard on playaction passes. My thinking is that his awareness rating is low compared to the other silver cbs. That is why he has 3 defensive special abilities.

i was running Dime with zone coverage. didn't work well, then even changed to prevent man and zone. didn't work either. he ran post in with rice and maynard. please note that i didn't have problem stop him until Elway ran back about 20 yards. and everytime he catch the ball there were 2 defenders around him.

it's not about win or lose the game to me. i just want to find out is there a way to stop this elway drops back 20 yrds with rice and maynard. i coudn't make sure to grap the last possession when he was doing onside kicks.
no, there is defense to stop 5 wide. i was up 14-0 in the 1st quarter. note that he used 5 wrs on his very 1st play non stop.

There really isnt anyway to completely stop it but you have to get inside your opponents head by jumping routes. This will make him second guess what he is doing and can cause sacks and int's. You can't just sit back and let him pick you apart. Be OFFENSIVE on the D side.

What i like to do is run zone blitzes, either called from the playbook or hot blitzing. I dont care who the qb is, you will get some sacks when blitzing alot, you will get burned to, but if he's scoring everytime then o'well. Another thing i like to do is call a specific zone, and then man up your corner thats guarding players he doesnt throw to. Most people key on 1 or 2 recievers, so if he has a generic out there, take your player thats lined up by him and assign him to Rice or Maynard. You cant do this in man coverage though because that would be to obvious. The key to defense is disguise, and calling your base defense isn't enough, you have to make adjustments. Hope this helps.
