View Full Version : How to: Move D Line & Linebackers independently

Hey, I accidentally discovered this in practice a few months ago and I have been using it successfully online ever since. I never see anyone else do this so I thought I would post how to do it.

Determine where you want to shift the linebackers and line. In the first example I will shift both my DLine and Linebackers to the right, in the second example I will shift only the DLine left. Basically, you use the left stick & LB to first call the shift that moves the DLine into the position you want and then QUICKLY use LB & left stick to shift the linebackers again while the line is still moving.

Example 1: Shifting both line & linebackers to the right

Hold down LB, press Left, then Right on the left stick as fast as you can. When I was first doing this it was easier to double tap the first direction until I got a hang of the timing (Ex, hold down LB, press Left, then Left again, then Right). You've got to do this pretty fast -- try it out in practice mode.

Example 2: Shift Dline left, leave linebackers alone

Hold down LB, press Right, then Up on the left stick as fast as you can.

This has really helped me shut down the run in the past couple of months and like I said I never see anyone try this on me so I thought I would share.

Use the directional pad, not the right stick, to make front adjusments. Also, LB + right, then up on directional pad does nothing to your front adjustment.

The whole key to making this work is the closer your opponent is to snapping the ball the more effective the shift is. If you come out and shift your players immediately then an opponent that knows what they're doing will make the proper adjustments. This can be said for secondary shifts as well.

Here are the 2 ways you can adjust your defensive line:

1)Hold LB, then press left, then right on directional pad....This will shift Dline left & LB's will move right.

2) Hold LB, then press right, then left on directional pad.....This will shift both Dline & LB's to the left.

Not sure how you have your controls set up, but it's LB & Right stick by default to shift the fronts.

And yeah, I realize it's strong side & weak side as opposed to left & right but that's semantics. The point is you can independently shift just the line or the linebackers.

Sorry BigMac but you're wrong. Nice try though. In the end it is the thought that counts.

For anyone that is reading this thread disregaurd anything that has been posted and read this only:

Now there are other variations that can be made. But these are are the only ones that effect your Dline. These are only 2.

Yeah, I should have said Left stick. I was thinking right stick because that's what you use to shift the DBs

How do you pick defense in practice mode?

This is actually something new, as far as I'm concerned. I use shifting for LB's and corners, safeties sometimes, but didn't realize you could shift the d-line in online play. Thanks for the tip.

When you're on the select teams screen move your controller over to the left.

Nope. You're still wrong. You should have said DIRECTIONAL PAD, not the left stick.

Stick works too. Give it a try.

I dunno, I tried both in practice and neither worked at all for me.
