Not true, I built one around him, problem is he's really not that good. Shure he's great at returning kickoffs, but a poor blocker who can't catch at all, so.................

Joe Perry may be the best back I've ever used when carrying the ball. He's fast and its not easy to bring him down.

I couldn't do it. I tried but there wasn't enough FB running plays in the playbook. You would have to sub him in at RB and in my book that is border line cheese.

I've never used him even though FB & TE are the keys to my offense. I have mostly shied away from him because he doesn't have the Abilities I look for in a FB: catching & blocking. I'll give him a shot, but I did create Bronko Nugurski & Marion Motley as Gold FB's and have used them and they own.

Any gold RB + Perry + 2 silver TE's = insanely good running game...
I don't think perry can be used too effectively on his own, he is more of a support player that puts up key blocks when needed. My friend made a team with Perry and Sanders. That was a horrible game for me. I was using Singletary to stop Sanders...but I never got close to him because every time I turned that corner Perry would just lay into me with his shoulder...
It was sad...

I will try this out next time I play, but I have to imagine he can't top Big Earl. Earl could use some help though, I suppose.
I will probably pick a couple of the single back formations to sub in the FB instead of the HB and also sub in the FB at TE on two-TE sets.

This topic just gave me a new idea for a team. Perry + any other gold back + generic QB....

I've tried Perry but its a non-starter.

LOL... Yea, he wasnt slow, but he for sure wasnt a speed burner one bit, not even for the fullback position. Only reason I could see giving him the speed burner atribute is because fullbacks are just made really slow in this game for some reason, including the legend fullbacks. But yea, If I was to create Larry Id do this:
Strength Bonus, Work Horse, Battering Ram, Bulldozer
If I used a 5th ability it would be Arm of Steel, he had a mean stiff arm.

If you gave him power wouldn't he get both Arm of steel and battering ram?
Or maybe Power makes his Stiff arm an 85 and his shoulder charge an 85, while giving him Arm of Steel and Battering Ram separately gives him a 95 in both.
Thats why I don't know if I should give my CAPs "Finnesse and Power" or give them both separately.

I have noticed the singles are better. I had a Cap Jamal Lewis, one with power and one with battering, the one with battering ram had a MUCH better shoulder charge. The abilities need to be explained better next year.

^^^ Really??
I also noticed that strength makes the Power abilities much more effective, and quick feet makes the finesse abilities much better.
Tuboware67
December 4th, 2007, 02:29 PM
Yea Ive noticed that whenever you used the combined abilities, like "Power" or "Finesse" or "Finesse and Power" they tend to be good at both, but great a niether. When I give them out seperately players seem to do those particular abilities better.

I hear you man. Sometimes I wish they went back to the old ratings system which was more easily understood and transparent. Honestly though, I think this system is closer to reality. In reality, there is probably no truly accurate way to measure someone's stiff arming or spin move ability on a scale of 1-10. For that reason, I think 2k8's tiered ratings and skill-based system is in many ways a more accurate way to describe a player than trying to assign ratings numbers.

I really like this abilities system, but at the same time I want to know what my players are good at. But at the same time, if everyone knew the ratings, most players would be using the same players.

Exactly, they need to keep the system in place, but make everyone a bit more EQUAL, I mean, some of the players are never used, everyone needs to stand out some way, and honestly, they all do, its just some people dont give some of the players in the game the time of day.

I agree. When I had this game on 360, I would usually get the same players for almost every team I made. I never paid attention to the guys w/ little or no abilities. I realize how much that actually limit's an already pretty limited game. When I get this for the PS3, one of the 1st teams I make will be a team w/ players I never used before.

well i just made and tried a team with joe perry and i won :rotfl: . it was my 100th win.. well joe perry didnt win it for me, he did the dirty work.. he had 196 yards but no touchdowns. i got like 6 field goals though from vinitieri ... missed only 1 (a 62 yarder to end the half and break the tie... i spend a gold on him to hit those so hes gonna be cut lol)
the team build is this:
gold
joe perry
adam vinatieri
silver
deron cherry
greg lloyd
roger whirly
bronze
charlie waters
john offerdahl
tom brookshier
brad van pelt
rob moore
dwight clark
well i was experiemnting with the playbook and i cut out almost EVERY PLAY involving more then 1 wr... my plan was the stack the line and just pound it out with perry... so when i got online with my team i realized my playbook was ****ed.... had no use for 2wr's.. but joe perry got enough yards for me, then by the time he got tired he would get stopped every down, but by then i was close enough to kick field goals.. so perry was the x factor :) :)
i built the team around 2 goals... field goals and onside kicks.. perry would get me into field goal range and vinatieri would nail them... and if i was loosing and had no other choice.. major onside kick comebakc lol... my effort to reenact this
http://youtube.com/watch?v=Lnc_W5SmDVA
. deron cherry and roger wehrli with their loose ball magnets recovering the onside... and since vinatieri is clutch he'll give that ball a good bounce.. :) but it didnt come to that so i dont know how it will work.. also kicking the ball into the endzone + special teams demons = bad field position for them :) :). he was diving in the endzone with lem barney, but then he tried to return it once and only got to the 13. :) :)

I agree with this and that is why I had a nice suggestion for this:
Fixing/Balancing Legends: Okoye shold not have 4 abilities, Manley should not have 5 while Wilcots has 0 all while they are Bronze level Legends. The developers need to leave it so that some Bronze players are not as powerful as some Gold (ie: Saleaumula, Manley, etc). All Gold players should have 4 to 5 Abilities, Silver 3 to 4, & Bronze 2 to 3, and up-and-coming Generics* with 1 (*See Franchise mode) as a standard. This balances the game out further and also prevents players from selecting all the same Legends.

The trick with him is that you have to go to the oldschool formations where the halfback lead for the fullback and not hte other way around (the the name HALF-back vs FULL-back, how we go to the state things are calling the guy halfway back from the QB the fullback and the guy all the way back from the QB is the halfback is beyond me...), and some of the better formations in the book that line up a halfback, fullback, and TE in the backfield as lead blocker should just plain tear people up. That and near/far formations.

This is the funniest strategy I've heard of. For kickoffs, try moving the arrow up to get more hangtime. Try to land the kick around the goalline so instead of a touchback, they try to run it but because of the hangtime, ur guys are already downfield to stop them prior to the 20.

December 20th, 2007, 01:30 PM
ya i aim it up a little and it lands about 3/4 deep in the endzone with some nice hangtime... but good idea im going ot make it even farther up and bait them to take it out lol... ive also practiced some trick plays and noticed a few things that work almost every time but not automatic.. and just for kicks i gave vinitaeri special teams demon and stamina bonus, now with him and deron cherry + a deep kick i have almost 0 % chance of ever giving up a kickoff return :) :)
also today i missed ANOTHER 62 yard field goal by about 3 yards.. so now im going into practice mode to see if its even possible to hit one of those... if not i have to rethink my strategy when im at my own 45 yard line lol

I think gamers put too much emphasis on abilities in this game. Some of the players with one or two abilities are studs. Billy Joe Dupree for example only has Bulldozer but he is a bad*****. He seals the corner on the run, he runs routes well, he catches 90% of the passes I throw his way, he comes up big on third down, he catches over the middle.
I wish guys would try a player out before they judge him on his abilities or lack there of because abilities don't tell you everything. You have to try a player out in game to figure out how good he really is, kinda like real life.
God I love this game!
