It's about time we hear some news! I am so excited that 2k sports have now step up and is bringing us a boxing game. The hell with EA sports and their fake arcady boxing game.
And by that I will say goodbye on the fight night foums for IGN. From here on out I will be posting on this site when it comes to boxing.

I hear ya Bro! I just hope that this game doesn't disappoint! I'm kinda concerned about it being developed by the makers of Rocky and Rocky Legends. I hope they get it right because i really couldn't take another Fight Night series!!!
YEAH BABY! C'MON 2K, DON'T LET US DOWN!!!!!!!!! MAKE THIS GAME REAL AND HAVE REAL FIGHTERS IN IT (MAYWEATHER. COTTO, PACQUIAO, MARQUEZ, PAVLIK, KLITSCHKO, ETC)! HAVE REAL REFS LIKE JOE CORTEZ! HAVE REAL BIG FIGHT VENUES LIKE MADISON SQUARE GARDEN, THE BOARDWALK IN ATLANTIC CITY, AND THE MGM GRAND! HAVE A REAL BIG FIGHT ATMOSPHERE WITH RABID FANS IN THE STANDS THAT MAKE SO MUCH NOISE THAT YOU CAN BARELY STAND IT! HAVE REAL BOXING ANNOUNCING LIKE THE SHOWTIME TEAM OR THE HBO TEAM (NO BIG TIGGER, PLEASE!) HAVE REALISTIC KNOCKDOWNS THAT DON'T LOOK LIKE A POPEYE CARTOON! HAVE THE FIGHTERS FIGHT IN THEIR SIGNATURE, REAL LIFE STYLES! HAVE REALISTIC RING ENTRANCES (ENTOURAGES, FIGHTERS ROBED OR SHIRTLESS, ETC) NOT LIKE THAT CRAP FIGHT NIGHT HAD (WHEN HAVE YOU EVER SEEN BIRDS FLY DURING A FIGHTER'S RING ENTRANCE? LORD HAVE MERCY!)! HAVE A REAL RING ANNOUNCER LIKE MICHAEL BUFFER OR JIMMY LENNON JR! HAVE A REAL STAREDOWN IN THE RING BETWEEN THE FIGHTERS! HAVE EVERY DIVISION FROM STRAWWEIGHT TO HEAVYWEIGHT (INCLUDING THE "SUPER" AND "JR" DIVISIONS)! HAVE THE CORNERMEN GET EXCITED AND SHOW REAL EMOTION IN THE HEAT OF BATTLE! HAVE PRESS CONFERENCES AND PROMOTIONAL TOURS! HELL, EVEN HAVE A 24/7 TYPE SHOW TO PROMOTE THE BIG FIGHTS! OK, I NEED A BREAK NOW, BUT I'LL BE BACK WITH MORE IDEAS! PEACE!

Yep, can't wait for Rocky Legends 2K8! Not as exciting when put that way is it? Not to be a buzzkill, but I don't think having a 2K Sports logo will change this game. Rocky wasn't a horrible game, but it was just as arcady as the FN series was. It's still developed by the same folks so...unless Venom Games comes out with some sort of gold, don't expect a revolution here.

look at 2ks line up.........
ALL PRO FOOTBALL
COLLEGE HOOPS
NBA 2k
MLB 2k
NHL 2k
all these games werent perfect, but they were sim & looked great. The animations looked great for the sport. YES, this boxing team was made by the same people who did rocky, but that doesent mean the inside development team is still the same. I wouldent be surprised to see some of the former team from EA chicago here. 2k knows that WE WANT THE TRUE SPORT OF BOXING & wont settle for less. THEY seem very hyped about this game so far & i know they did their HOMEWORK.
2k did their HOMEWORK all year & now it's time to past the test...........no more rumors

The Madden games for the Xbox and Playstation 2 were good, but it's seems like EA missed the mark on the Next-Gen systems in my opinion. All Pro's gameplay blew Madden away! Sure, Madden looks better and had way more modes, but what good is all that if the gameplay isn't that good?
I mean, graphically, NBA Live 08 looks better that NBA 2K8, but really, which one would you rather have?

The Madden name has been going on for that long. Visual concepts has been making football games longer than Madden's current developer "Tiburon". In fact, Visual Concepts (current developer of 2K's football games) used to be a developer of the SNES Madden games, as well as many of EA's other sports games like the NHL and MLB series' in '95. The Madden name may continue to chug, but 2K's football team has been doing longer than anyone else. Amazing how things turn around with a little information.

Fight Night was fun but once you got passed an exhibition fight you realized how half assed to death the game was...They put all their effort into the gameplay and it paid off somewhat because they had some really good innovation...The styles system and TPC was amazing...My only real beef with the gameplay was the 5 second stun karate chop aka parry (that is not a boxing parry) and the gimmick haymaker...
Everything outside of the gameplay was complete and utter garbage...The presentation was a big slap in the face to all boxing fans and a complete disgrace to the sport...The career mode got shorter and weaker with every new version and was a complete joke...They also severely downgraded the create a player options...
I doubt prizefighter will eclipse Fight Night in terms of gameplay...Its going to be hard to top that and personally i don't think the Rocky guys can do it on their first try...That said as far as complete boxing experience goes i expect prizefighter to be 10 times better than Fight Night...2K sports is infamous for delivering an in depth career mode with a quality presentation and all around stellar simulation experience...

You really think Fight Night's gameplay was all that good? I thought it was mediocre at best. I thought the boxers were way too stiff and slow, not loose and fluid like real boxers are, and the animations were a joke. Look at the cartoonish knockdowns! The footwork and the punching angles were horrible, and the haymakers were nothing short of comical. Fight Night's gameplay was way to arcade-like to be taken seriously in my opinion, and i have a strong feeling that we'll all see just how ridiculous it was when we see Prizefighter. Of course some people thought Fight Night was so good because there was nothing else to compare it to. We might think that NBA Live 08 is great if it weren't for NBA 2K8 to tell us otherwise. If 2K does this boxing game right, and their history on making games with great gameplay kinda tells us that they will, people won't even remember Fight Night anymore.

The core gameplay in Fight Night wasn't perfect but it was good imo...The only animations i didn't like were the KD and that celebration crap...Im not sure what game you played but the fighters moved very fluid, Ali and SRR in particular were a blast to play with...I agree the punching angles were a bit off but the footwork was pretty on point...Again it wasn't perfect by a long shot, there was no in fighting, no physical advantages like reach and the stamina system was done wrong...I already addressed the Haymaker and "parry" which were really stupid gimmicks...

wow, i seem to have several opinions. i thin i will anger all and all will agree with me to some point.
1) fight night has been the best boxer ever. it COULD have been better, but the use of the analogs was fantastic. when you play games like rocky then fight night, you definitely see a difference. hopefully 2k will take the developments and just go above and beyond using fight night as a stepping stone. i am sure i will get flamed bc there will be a lot of ea haters with this being a 2k site, but it's how i feel.
2. 2k football vs madden. madden was THE football game until like 1999. from there on out, except gm, what DID madden put out that WASNT gimmicky hey look at me features???? madden was soft, old, and tired. 2k was GREAT and QUICKLY overtaking madden. now, i willl only play ncaa 0whatever. 2k NFL football wont come back but it WOULD be great,,,,

I couldn't agree more. People have revisionist memories. When Fight Night R3 came out, everybody was p*ssing their pants on how great it was and how fun the TPC was. I know that it (or R2) was by far the best boxing game I've ever played. Now I haven't played the VB series, but if they don't have analog punching, I'm sure I would prefer FN.
That said, FN definitely had its issues. They haymaker and the parry were good ideas in theory, but they were too easy to exploit by cheesers. You actually DO need a fighter to be able to throw a "one-hitter quitter" if it's a boxing sim b/c fighters go for a one-punch KO all the time. There just needs to be a better balance of how tiring it is, how much is throws a fighter off balance, making them susceptible to a counter, and things like that.
April is actually not that far away, so if Prizefighter comes on sched, I'm a little skeptical on how "revolutionary" the game will be in its first edition. But either way, I can't wait for it to come out and I'll be biting the bullet and buying another 360 just before the release of this game.

Fight Night is a good game with 16 bit mechanics. There's a good balance in the game, but it's a game that relies on its own mechanics than wanting to simulate an actual boxing engine. The Haymaker mechanic puts you in KO moment, but when parried, a Haymaker can come back as a reversal. The entire parry system works great as a videogame, but fails to represent actual boxing. FN is no boxing Sim, as it doesn't offer any boxing strategy. Stamina is there as a round to round gimmik, but basically restores after each round. You don't really have to worry about it.

I can tell that you're an ignorant of the sport of boxing, with all due respect. The footwork in FNR3 was NOT "on point." You can slide back and forth unrealistically as fast as you can flick the sticks, with no inertia or weight. This leads to many unrealistic "stick and move" exploits. You can't punch and move simultaneously in real life, you have to plant your foot even for a split second. In FNR3 it is possible to jab and move back at the exact same moment. In real life the way you throw a jab is by stepping IN with your lead foot, not stepping back with your back foot. And the haymaker and parry weren't merely gimmicks, they were the CORE GAMEPLAY MECHANICS of FNR3. I bet my house that if I ever fought you online, you're gonna be parrying like there's no tomorrow. Don't tell me that the parry is only a gimmick in FNR3 when you live and die by it.
And stop assuming that just because the same developers who developed the Rocky games is working on Prizefighter, Prizefighter will be the same as the Rocky games. The Rocky games are based on the Rocky movies, not on realism. The Rocky games were designed to appeal to arcade fans, but at least there were no pretenses about it. Fight Night Round 3 was designed 100% for arcade fans, but it was disguised as a sim, and morons like you insist that it is a sim. 2K Sports has a strong history of making games that are more realistic than EA Sports' titles. It is quite obvious that you are a diehard EA fan, possibly even an employee, by your fear and concern that 2K Sports is going to overthrow EA Sports with the best boxing game ever made. Your job is to try to convince everybody that 2K Sports' Prizefighter will suck.

I totally agree with FighterforJC. You can't compare the Rocky Games to the Fight Night series because the Rocky movies weren't even real boxing. It was fictional boxing about a fictional character no matter what Stallone wanted us to believe, and the games were based off the movie characters which really told you that it was going to be arcade-like. Fight Night was supposed to be a real boxing sim that has REAL boxers in it, and it was far from a boxing sim. I mean, maybe it's just me, but when i see a sports game that's supposed to be a "simulation," i expect to see the realism in it as if i was watching it on tv. I was wondering did the people at EA even watch a REAL boxing match before they made this game? Just look at NBA 2K8, it's as close to watching a game on tv as possible. I'm not saying it mimmicks b-ball perfectly, but it's damn close, and that's my definition of a simulated game. Fight Night was nothing more than a glorified arcade boxing game at best in my opinion.

not lookin for an argument but on the topic of punching while in motion... I boxed for 9 years and while I was a offense first fighter, I learned to punch defensively as well. If you watch many of RJJ's fights, he was a master of punching while going back and side to side. If you are familiar with step drag in boxing then yes you step in with your lead foot and then fire off a jab, but you can also jab as your foot leaves the ground and if you pop and time it right when you land your foot... it actually has more power on it. It's called a step-jab. While you are moving backwards, your rear foot steps back and you Jab as your right foot is dragging and it adds power (its not as strong as the step-jab because your inertia is going in reverse.) Punching in motion is very possible and good fighters do it very effectively. Ali used to double and triple jab in motion, and throw straight rights while moving foward to the point he was lunging... and Left hook artists that hardly ever plant thier feet yet lung forward and knock everyone out.

I believe that you boxed for 9 years, I also believe that you got hit in the head too many times. You cannot move backwards at the exact same time you are stepping in with your punches. You have no idea what you're talking about. Punching or not punching, the footwork in FNR3 is severely flawed, I'll put up a video shortly for idiots like yourself. The triple jab Ali does or anybody for that matter, consists of planting the lead foot each time you pop the jab. "LEFT HOOK ARTISTS THAT HARDLY EVER PLANT THEIR FEET YET LUNGE FORWARD????? HOW THE HECK DO YOU THINK THEY LUNGED FORWARD IF THEIR FEET WEREN"T PLANTED. Go home and tell your mother she's no fun.

lol if you say so. I don't know I guess it just takes talent. I know exactly what I am talkng about. Take into account that peoples hands move faster than thier feet. and when throwing multiple punches ... well you get the idea. post a video if you want. I just know what I have done, and watched what others have done. Is it possible that when throwing a power jab and stepping forward that your hand extends at the time your foot touches down? you are afterall pushing off with your rear foot and stepping down on your lead foot. You're forgeting the laws of motion... Stand up... lift your left foot and push off on your rear right foot as your leaning forward and snap your jab out as your left foot touches the ground, and drag your rear foot up back into position. rinse and repeat. The power is generated from the forward motion and snap at the end. There isn't any movement when your feet are planted. I'm not going to call you any names or talk about your mom. I gave up the tit for tat when I came off the playground, relive 6th grade if you want to, it still doesn't make you right... maybe a boxing class would do you some good.

I never said you could step in with a punch while your going backwards... Its either your going forward throwing a jab, or your stepping backwards and throwing a jab, both can be done while in motion without first touching the ground with the wither the lead or rear foot. You need to stop trying to insult people and learn to read before you Type.

Switchupsouthpaw, I apologize. I had no reason to be rude, so please accept my apology. I'm just TOO passionate when it comes to my boxing games because we haven't seen any great ones. Whatever it was that you were trying to explain, it was NOT what EA Sports had in FNR3. The footwork in FNR3 is cosmetic, there is no weight and inertia, you are literally sliding across the ring, and it IS highly exploitable. The ONLY thing going for FNR3 is the graphics. The TPC is pretty much pointless in FNR3. It wasn't like the TPC in FN 2004, where you can effectively feint with your punches, since the punch animations in FN 2004 were far more realistic than FNR3's. But at any rate, I simply don't want 2K to compromise any aspect of actual boxing.
