Hey folks,
I'm new to the forum, and the search didn't bring anything up so I figured I'd create a thread.
As a big 2k5 fan, I was crushed to hear about the EA licensing fiasco. But when I think about the scenario, it reminds me a lot of the winning eleven/fifa rivalry.
For a long time FIFA had the upper hand in licensing, but winning eleven had the superior gameplay and offered people tons of customization to make an accurate representation of the current season's rosters and teams.
I feel like 2k wouldn't be infringing upon the exclusive rights if they just opened up the hood of their game...sort of like a semi-open source offering beyond just the normal customization modes. Give people an actual game editor they could save on their hard drive and transport for work on a pc through the xport or something. I'm sure there are enough hard-core 2k5 fans with programming experience who would love to recreate every current player and team. And...though I doubt EA would let microsoft share the files over their live service, I, for one, would instantly drop $50 for an xport so I can transfer the new teams onto my 360.
Anyone smell a petition?

It's already been reported that the NFL doesn't plan on seeking an exclusive deal again in 2K10, so we just have one more year left before Football is truly resurrected.

Fanthom, I heard something like that a while back. I heard Roger Goodell was going to strongly advise against a liscense for NFL video games.
Sorry, I am too lazy to look for a link that may not even be there.

I don't have a link for it no. I saw it either on the HotSpot (www.gamespot.com) or the video review over at www.gametrailers.com. I'm sorry, I don't recall which (think it was GameSpot though). I am 100% sure I heard it though. I bet if you search the forums here/there you can find something on it. Or heck, google it.

There are roster updates you can download online and transfer to your 360 using the xport. I haven't done this yet, but I'd assume they are pretty accurate and the only thing off on them I would imagine is any player not in 2k5 (ie rookies, 2nd & 3rd year players) would have no pic.
BTW until the 2K series launched on Dreamcast NFL Quarterback Club for the SNES was the best football game ever. The QB challenge owned!!

What are you talking about ? The NFL extended their deal with EA for another 3 years. It won't be until about 2k13; that is . . . if they don't renew it again.
This was another piece of information that annoyed me along with Tubo's confirmation of 2k9. People think coz one spokesman said that the NFL didn't want an exclusive deal, that it wasn't going to happen. The NFL knows nothing, nor do they care, about how bad of a football game EA makes. They just know it sells well and has a loyal fanbase.

lol... someone dug this thread up from months ago. This already came up in another thread where someone bashed me for the post about the NFL and the license. All I can say is I did read it, and that I can't find the story. I'm fairly certain GameSpot ran it as a news item, but the search feature on their website doesn't seem to cover news items properly and good luck finding it via another search engine now that they resigned the NFL license (that's pretty much all that comes up now).

What I have in bold is just like what you can do in Maximum football. When the Max Football editor was released, you saw jersey's for just about every team known popping up across trhe internet. I was keeping a close eye on it. People really do enjoy making jerseys. I even like doing it in 2K8.
As I've pointed out in other threads, an OS story detailed that 2K did not want to give us these kinds of customization options because they believed that it would upset the NFL and ruin their chances of getting another deal. But now there is no chance at a deal, so there is no longer any excuse. If there is a 2K9 I fully expect it to be the total customization we expected it to be, and quite frankly I don't think the game will stand a chance this time around without it.

my educated guess would be that Take 2 will sell to EA eventually..however you will see a deal that will allow 2ksports to branch out and become there own again and will create or spawn a truly great sports video gaming franchise again. I see a deal being born between 2ksports and the guys behind backbreaker. Well its a good dream anyway....
