View Full Version : I will not buy this game if it doesn't use total punch control!!

If I have to press a button to punch I will refuse to buy this game. One thing the Fight night series got right was the use of total punch control. This requires true skill to master (even throwing haymakers). Also make it so you can fight a guy that you know is using all analog...as I hate fighting others who button mash...I find it unfair and silly.
I dont even have to say the long parry's, judge jab, sinister cross crap has to go...thats a given.
This ought to be interesting....I'm skeptical on how this game is going to turn out. DON"T ***K IT UP!

I want the option though to only fight people that use 100% analog. Buttons can be in the game cuz some like it...and that all cool but I wanna see what configuration others are using.
I dont want to use all analog and lose to someone mashing the hook buttons with their eyes closed.
If the developers are reading this PLEASE GIVE US THE OPTION TO FILTER OUT BUTTON MASHERS! Thats all I ask.

Uhm, no it does not take skill to use total punch control. Once you get used to it, it works just like the buttons, it's just a gimmick control scheme very much like the Wii's. "Requires true skill to master." That is just pathetic. And for the last time, BUTTON MASHING HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CONTROL SCHEME. YOU CAN STILL BUTTON MASH WITH THE TPC. BUTTON MASHING HAS TO DO WITH THE GAME MECHANICS THAT ALLOW THE PLAYER TO THROW PUNCHES IN AN UNREALISTICALLY FAST MANNER THAT DEFIES PHYSICS AND HAS ABSOLUTELY NO AFFECT ON STAMINA. Even with the TPC, you can still button mash, albeit with the analog sticks. THE SOLUTION TO BUTTON MASHING IS NOT A GIMMICK TPC, BUT A REALISTIC STAMINA SYSTEM. Why don't real boxers "button mash" in real life? Because 1) They'll spend all their energy if they do it often enough. 2) They'll leave themselves wide open for a sucker punch.

Thats your opinion. Button combos come off much faster than TPC. This game can use buttons as long as their is the option to use TPC and to fight other fighters that use the same config! I want my fights to be as evenly matched up as possible. If you like buttons then I'm sure this game will satisfy your needs.
I agree with you 100% that this game needs a realistic stamina system. I have been wanting that for a looong time. The Fight night stamina system sukks.

I really don't understand why Fight Night was so popular. To me it was one big commercial with all the advertising that was in it. And I seriously want to strangle the guy who thought that getting parried should result in your boxer standing there for five seconds looking stupid.

Yeah...that 5 second parry garbage was one of the WORST ideas ever put in a video game period! I and so many other people HATED that. Since when do you see boxing matches where a boxer's jab get's parried and eats to hooks or uppercuts everytime?
Fight night is all about parrying punches, landing uppercuts/ hooks of your own to win the fight. Stamina is a non issue cuz EA made that haymaker invincible stamina boost so many people abuse.
It makes me want to vomit when I think of how bad EA dropped the ball. Fight night 3 had sooo much potential and some great ideas but failed miserabley as a boxing sim.
Total punch control for me is one of the best things ever. I get into my fights more and couldnt imagain if I had to push buttons again. It's all about the "feel". I hope 2K incorporates punching using the sticks. Or at least give us the option too.

True skill baby....true skill. Just remember, a monkey could press a button to punch and throw combos...but a true master and skilled fighter uses the analog to put together combo's that few others could pull off.

I'm all about some type of TPC. I NEVER use the buttons anymore. TPC is one of the things FN got right. And I agree that it takes skill to be able to mix up your punches with TPC. Most people just go left hook, right hook all day with it. It takes skill to throw double and triple jabs or throwing three left hooks in a row followed by a right cross. TPC is amazing and the reason I forgave FN for all it's other mistakes. I'd be really disappointed if Prizefighter didn't have some type of analog punching system.

well lets see. . . .
a boxer is training for a fight. or he is in a fight and says to himself.. .
i want to throw my punches a more skillfull way other than just throwing them the way i want to. . .. hmmmmmm so i will throw them this other way because it is available for me to do it and the inventor of the new way to throw puches says that it is " total control"
but when you really look at it is it??
with buttons you cant really determine hord hard the boxer punches with a single type of punch.
with the analog stick you cant either - save the haymaker
so is it really total control?? can my punches and combinations be faster and more accurate then using bottons??
the answer is no. Ea never said that they can be harder or faster using the analog stick. it really is just another way you can throw punches. GET IT??
total punch control means you have the ability to hit either hard, or harder with that same punch. if i use the stick to jab will it make the punch strike faster?? no. if i use the stick to throw a hook will it hit harder then press the button?? no.
if u se the stick to throw a haymaker will my fighter throw a haymaker?? yes
so really it is total haymaker control. not total punch control.

I think TPC was a nice feature, but they blew it with also making button punching an option. If they REALLY wanted to revolutionize and focus on a game of TPC skill, then they would have make TPC the only way to throw punches.
I kept reverting back to buttons. I think TPC kept better pacing for a Boxing game rather than everybody getting off blazing fast combinations.
Then again, I wouldn't mind if PrizeFighter went back to buttons. You just have to do it right.

I disagree. You could be good at this game using TPC and not have any skill at all. How is button mashing any different from stick-mashing?
Besides, I hated TPC. I hated how it took a 3-point effort to fire off an uppercut. Anyone that's ever boxed or watches boxing knows that fighters can throw an uppercut or hook just as effortlessly as a jab or cross.
If we're talking about having skill in a boxing game it should translate from counter-punching, working off the jab, taking advantages of openings or getting your opponent off balance.
Unfortunately, Fight Night does almost none of this.
In FN, anyone can score a knockdown or flash KO regardless of who's throwing or taking the punch. It has almost no physics whatsoever.
KO's and knockdowns should take place when a fighter is hit with a hard shot he doesn't see or is caught in a bad position. And then it should depend on the fighters attributes. A guy like Chris Byrd is not going to knock anyone out with a straight left. For him to knock anyone down or out, it has to come from an abundance of shots and even then it's hard for him to do.
On the other hand, a guy like Wlad Klitscho can knock you out fairly easily if he catches you sleeping or with a clean counter.
I've played the Victorious Boxers series and I've played all the FN's. Despite the VB series using buttons, you need a lot more skill in that game than you do in FN.
Just because you're physically moving more using the sticks in FN doesn't mean you're actually more skilled. I've seen plenty of non-skilled, non-boxing fans KO guys by just wagging the stick around as fast as they could.
What Prize Fighter (and FN) need to do is incorporate a better physics engine and gameplay features so that true strategy is needed to defeat your opponent - not gimmicky punches.

Yea, that move reminds me of a martial art move. I've never seen those in real boxing, they don't block like that in real life and then have then stand there forever after a block is just stupid.

Yeah, this thread has gone waaayy off topic! From now on, lets keep it to the topic.....which is THIS GAME WILL BE 100% GARBAGE AND AN UTTER FAILURE IF TOTAL PUNCH CONTROL IS NOT IMPLIMENTED IN SOME FASHION!!!!
I dislike the MAJOR flaws that are in fight night series...but I will give EA props for having a revelutionary control scheme with the sticks. Blocking, bob n' weavin, leaning, haymakers and punching feel so natural with the sticks I could NEVER go back to pushing a suck azz button to punch all the time.
For me this entire game is riding on how the punching, blocking control scheme is set up and the ability to match against other players online with THE SAME configuration.
For all of you that think total punch control is a joke...then come see me on the 360 in FN-3and we'll both switch to all analog config.....I would tear dat azz up so fast you'll be cryin home to ya mommy!! Then you will relize the true power of all analog!

Total Punch Control is a must for me aswell. I mean if its not there, I'll give it a shot, and I suppose it could be possible that they do enough right without TPC, that it could still be a great game, but I'm definatly rooting for a TPC like system.
Would be nice if they expanded on the system and actually made the speed at which you move the stick actually determines how fast and powerful your punches are.
