as a big part of this game. The sport of boxing is 90% out of the ring. The training in the gym, roadwork, and diet are a huge part of this sport and there is no reason it cannot be made fun and put into this game.
A problem with FN was that the 3 training routines were boring, repetitive, and too quick. This forced the player into jumping into fights immediately. 2k needs to make the time in between fights a huge focus. This will not only absorb the player in to the life of a boxer and make their character seem more real but it will also make the actually fight more rewarding.
Personally I would like to see a fully interactive gym that you can physically walk your boxer through. Walk up to the heavy bags and bang on those for a while. Walk around and speak with other boxers training and challenge them to spar. Speak with a nutirionist to set your diet. Work on the speed bag, double ended bag, uppercut bag, pads, etc.
When you start out you should be just another gym rat. Part of your becoming a star would be to first beat out the best guy in your gym in a sparring round. As you progress and earn more money from fights you could build your own gym and stock it with the best equipment around, hire the best trainers, and recruit the best sparring partners. All of this would obviously have an effect on your stats.

Personally, I'd rather see a game where they get rid of all the GIMMICK training garbage and just focus on the actual boxing, because last time I checked, the actual fighting in the ring is 100% of what boxing is about. I don't think I've ever paid for a PPV event to watch somebody do road work.

Sure that is what is about to YOU. For someone that boxes though or wants to feel what it is like then the fight in the ring is only a very small portion.
I don't see why the in ring gameplay would have to suffer if you added training. that is just an excuse.
We already know there will be many outside of the ring factors...I guess the question is to what extent.

As a peson who boxes, i would love to see a deep training mode just as long as it doesn't wreck the gameplay in any way. Why not have the best of both worlds if 2K can pull it off? But if i had to choose one, i'd rather have great gameplay because in the end that's what's going to keep you playing the game for a long time.

Yeah, I'd like to have the option of a more in-depth training, but there should also be an "auto-train" feature like in the FN series. Because I know sometimes I'll just want to get in the ring and handle business. I think doing extensive roadwork or situps or jumping rope will get very repetitive and annoying. Who wants to run 5 miles on a video game 20 times before they get to fight?

I agree you would obviously have to tone the training down a little. You would also need to make it fun. Possibly link it to XBOX Live so the competition factor would be there.
As far as jumping right in to the fight that is what exhibition and sparring is for.

I agree that training should be important and the Xbox Live competitive training is a GREAT idea. But I still the the auto-train is an important feature. But like the FN series, if you use it, your results should be limited. I know some days I'll have all the time in the world and want to do all the training and nutrition and all that and other days I may just have an hour to play and will want to advance my career with a fight or two w/o all the extra stuff - even if my fighter suffers from it (just think of it as a fighter skipping a day or two at the gym).

i agree . . with both of you
it will be nice to have both of these aspects in the game.
2k i hope will balance the out for us. The sims crushed the gaming world becuse of it indepth virtual life aspect of human behaviour and living.
it would be sweet if there was a boxing game that did this. An old mike tyson boxing game tried to do this but the gameplay sucked. the training was wasnt indepth and interactive either. now we can have that i believe.
i think your opinions are great and need to both be in the game but there needs to be a balance. to train in eaxact real time will really ware the players out because if it really take me an hour to train my fighter per training session for months before a fight my interest in playing the game will fade. i train him an hour a day in real time on each different training execrcise or a week and then go into the fight and in lasts on 2 rounds and then it is back to another week of real time training for another fight will fade my interest in getting to the belt because it will take me many months to get to the championship fight will kill gaming interest.
but if i can train him for an hour real time and fight after that trianing would be much better for the gamer i think. that way i can train different things within that hour and get go fight.
HERE IS AN IDEA
give the training mode five minute intervals of five different exercises and then let do road work for five more minutes. have me pick a diet to correspond with the training i need for a particular next fighter. all my oppenants should not be the same for me to train for. meaning that i have to train different skill and qualities for a specific type of oppenant. the diet should correspond with tthe type of skill and qualties i need to work on. the traing is like a SIMS style training. i should be able to train my fighter as long as i want between fights. BOXER DO TRAIN WITH HAVING SIGNED A FIGHT CONTACT YOU KNOW. that way i can stay in shap and conditioning for a fight.
Then The Fight!! PRESS CONFERENCE!! WEIGH IN!! great night of fight presentation and cut sceens. then the actual walk to the ring , judge and ref intro, fighter intro, and then the fight. true human motion and the ability to choose the hardness of the punches.
LETS GO PEOPLE!! LETS GO PEOPLE!!
