How many people like running 5 wide for the majority of their offensive game plan? I know that it can be risky but it can also yield great reward at the same time.

Thoughts........

I use 5 wide very seldom. 5 wide sets will take your legend HB off the field if you have one. Marino at QB is a must if you're going to run 5 wide majority of the game.

I am actually using Jim Harbaugh (insert laugh here) and having a lot of success. I have also been romped a couple of times. I like to run a ball control passing attack using bronze soft hands receivers. I find that it frustrates the hell out of opponents. I do have Don Maynad in case I need to go down field however...

I do with Elway. But I do it because I absolutely SUCK at running the football in this game. I don't know why, I just can't do anything with anybody when it comes to toting the rock. I'm good at reading coverage though, so I guess there's the trade off. It was largely the same for me in 2k5, even though I played with the Broncos :|

I do 5 wide alot with Cunningham, Rice, Berry, Maynard, Laveli, and Clark. It leaves a little to be desired on the defensive side of the field but the offensive power is usually enough to overcome that...

I will use 2 gold at CB and 2 silver at LB so I can account for run stopping and pass coverage. Running a 3-2 or 3-3 works best with this type of D setup.

But the problem with 5-wide is that you aren't really going to throw to all of the recievers, so some of them are a waste.

Also, you need really good pass protection. I had 5 stars on O-line once, and I still got sacked a lot, becuase even a good O-line can't protect you from when a nickle or dime back blitzes, cause they are already engaged with 4 down linemen.

Lastly, 5-wide can also be hard to score in the red-zone sometimes.

 :thumbsdow

How typical, this is the basic I don't know how to play So Rice is'nt enough I need Berry, oh yeah Maynard too, oh yeah yeah Laveli, and just to top it off I need Cunningham.

Your team is a joke and screams rookie, you know how to stop players like you, blitz, blitz, and more blitz

^^^ Exactly, I tried 4-wide and 5-wide sets once with an all bronze and silver star o-line, and I still got sacked a lot by nickle and dime backs blitzing.

i like the 5 wide look as it forces the defense to decide to come after you with the blitz and leave someone man to man or sit back in the zone and give you opportunies to pick them apart, the only downside to this is the oline will give up plenty of sacks

The thing with 5 wide is being able to read where the blitz is coming from. In the 5 wide sets there are a lot of quick dump off plays to get 5 - 9 yrds if your opponent is trying to blitz all the time. You just have to set up your offensive playbook accordingly. 4 bronze receivers is more than adequate if you know what you are doing with a bronze qb throwing to them.

If you are going to run 5 wide all game you should atleast be sim about it and use the Run and Shoot Offense. I use to be a offensive powerhouse and just run through people with it untill I got raped by Firstborn3rd 60 something to 6 lol I never used it again not to mention it was called unsim.
The Run and Shoot is a Legit offense but should be used by only skilled sim players who actually know football. Cheesers in 5 wide all game are most likely just abusing AI flaws in the game.

Point is good players sim players will learn how to stop that drivel sooner or later so you should learn to use all aspects of offense instead of chuck and duck.

good point there..and also there is a RUN in the run and shoot...lol people seem to forget that..most run and shoot teams had a pretty good back runnign the ball as well

The five wide I use has 2 bronze receivers (Dwight Clark and Alvin Harper) and a bronze TE (Metz, of course). I don't really see the need to get anything more than that when it comes to receivers. I put all my silver and gold into defense (exception being Elway/Marino/Unitas and sometimes Graham) along with the rest of the bronze.

Works pretty effectively with the occasional complete and total drop by one of the scrubs, but that's bound to happen. I'll give it to the running back every once in awhile, but the second he's dropped behind the line for a loss I'm instantly reminded why I didn't even try that the past couple of drives.

i like to spread the defence out alot. i run alot of 4 wide and 5 wide and never really have problems with sacks i usually always make sure i have someone running a slant or an out or something like that to throw to if i need to get the ball away fast. i usually only get sacked about 2 or 3 times a game and i use randal cunningham i dont really run alot with him but i like to get out of the pocket because im better when im out of the pocket. and i usually scramble to the opposite side of the blitz and that works alot or i just have really quick patterns. i rarely throw ints to because i am safe with the ball i rarely force it into coverage i think i average probably 1 int every 5 or 6 games.

I played a guy who used 5 wide the whole game. First 23 plays bombs to guys streaking, one run on thw second to last play of the game, another bomb to end the game. Went for it on every 4th except for one.
Not fun. Play Sgtgway if you like that kind of game.
