View Full Version : Online co-op : does it work for anyone?

Has anyone managed to get co-op working? A few searches revealed one or two similar questions, but no answers. So here is one more:

If we use the Play A Friend mode and invite one of our buddies to a game, we can now move both of the controller icons over to the same team and start a co-op game over Live. The kickoff runs great, but as soon as we go to the next play after the kickoff, the game complains about some type of connection / network error and drops us back to the title screen.

Apologies if this has been answered already, but I couldn't find much discussion on the issue.

No, online co-op always makes the network error that unregisters the game.

Thanks for the info, Tpat. I got excited when I saw I could move both controllers to one side of the screen. Too bad. I know it's not remotely as important as head-to-head play, but co-op is one of the more overlooked aspects to games, unfortunately. Hopefully a patch will fix it if they haven't abandoned this version yet.

I finally got it to work! My Brother and I have been troubleshooting the co-op thing for the past week. First off I want to say we haven't pin-pointed what causes the error message that ends the game and kicks you back to the start menu. What we do know is that some of my teams can't play against some of his teams. For example: My team The Swashbucklers can't play his Gladiators(game ends right after kickoff). But my Swashbucklers can play against several of his other teams. We both have 8 teams so we have been toggling back and for trying to find out what the catch is.
Some of the teams start to let us play and we'll kick off, play a defensive series and after the punt when it starts to go to the offensive playbook it cuts out. So far what we do know is that it doesn't matter if your teamed up on a home or away team, settings don't seem to matter(injuries, challenges, etc.), teams can both have the same players, and CAPs don't matter. One thing we have noticed is that we can still play on a team with an extended playbook but as soon as we pick a play from an extended book(ex: using a 5-2 def) game over. But if we just use the default plays we can play the whole game. I hope this helps you guys, if you have any questions or tips please post them. Thanks AirGibson for posting the comment about the patch doing something, cause I wouldn't have even thought to try it again.

Hi cyco_9,

have you found anything new about co-op online?

I'm really interested in playing co-op online with friends against the CPU, that's the reason why I would import the game (I live in Europe and no version was released here), so any detail you can tell about it would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

Whats up Ledzep, I've posted pretty much everything I know about the online co-op. I've played several co-op games with my brother from across the Continent over the last couple of weeks. We just stay away from the teams we know don't work and keep to the default playbooks. As far as importing the game, if you haven't played 2k8 your missing out. Its not a perfect game but it is by far the best football game available. Playing co-op makes the game even better. Controlling the receiver and breaking off your route is a whole new challenge and very rewarding. Anyways I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info cyco_9.

I used to play 2k5 coop in my old xbox and you're right it's an incredible experience.
Playing as WR was great! I also remember especially when playing defence and forcing a fumble or an INT and then trying to block for your teammate during the return! oh man, glorious!!!

I don't understand exactly the problems of the extended playbooks, but well it seems that eventually coop online is a fact, and that makes me happy enough.

Right now I play madden 08 in my 360, but I really miss the coop. I'm considering buying a PS3 and importing a copy of 2k8 (I'd prefer the 360 version but is not region free so it wouldn't work on a PAL European 360)

by the way, can you change sliders for the coop online games?
Are the sliders the same as in 2k5?

thanks again ;-)
