Fair Catch Glitch!!!

This happened offline.

I kick to the cpu. It called for a fair catch, but didn't catch the ball.

I go down and down the ball and suddenly a flag comes up.

I'm saying to myself what is this?
Illegal block in the back on the cpu?
Did one of my guys release too early?

NO!
I get a fair catch penalty!!!!!!!

The punt returner has NO ONE around him and is totally out of the play after the ball hits the ground and is touched dead.

It called the foul because AFTER the ball hits the ground one of my cpu controlled players running his route runs into the punt returner. Nothing harmful just a simple shoulder rub.

I looked at your credits yesterday and I just don't understand how things like this is leaking through to your game.

I hope your QA team is not being run by your developers because that is a no no.
And... I hope your QA team is open minded enought to have a script to test the limits placed on various aspects of the game such as this.

Someone should be intentionally running into the punt returner after the ball hits to make sure whatever flag you have set isn't still set!!!!!!!

Can you reproduce it? I never heard of it. 5 months after release and it happened. That should tell you why 2k didnt catch it.

I was just getting warmed up for a few online games and this happened.

Do you remember that video they had with the players diving for a fumble? I think 2k5?
I had something similar to this when I played offline in the same game.

cpu offsides kick hits my player, which normally means cpu recovery :lol:, but there was diving for the loose ball for quite some time. I mean they going for the ball getting up and going for it again. I managed to get the ball back, but it was crazy.


Were you on earlier?
I saw someone with similar id, but it may have been KV----- I'm not sure.
They posted a quick message of wanting a sim game.

By that time this guy had challenged me.
I posted about that experience in another thread so I won't go to far into it.


I just thought of something.
That might be hard to reproduce because I was playing the cpu and I don't have away to force it to call a fair catch and not catch it unless it is near the goal line and even then that might take some doing.

If I do it against another player it might not involve the same coding.
But I'll give it a shot.

Happen to me in an online game today, screwed up my field positon. Similar situation, I had penned around the 15 and now he gets around the 30, very frustrating.

There's an unrelated fair catch glitch that got fixed in an earlier patch (I think)?

Let a punt get kicked to you, then switch off of your returner, run around a bit, switch back and hit Y for fair catch. Nothing comes up, but your returner apparently still called for it (there's no visual indication however), and if someone touches your returner, they get flagged for fair catch interference. Haven't seen it happen in a couple of months though.

I don't like the QB punt where you get the bogus roughing the kicker penelty when your trying to sack the qb.

Funny, my gripe with QB punt is the fact that Peter states "and the punting unit is coming onto the field", when it's clearly your starters in shotgun formation (or whatever you picked).

Kinda gives it away. :P

I hate when that happens. Although it usually causes my opponents to take timeouts. :cool:

With the Punt if one of your guys brushes the punter it will call fair catch interference. I don't see how it's a glitch. That is the rule in real life. Also if the ball lands on the ground and you wait a while to pick it up then go try to pick it up and one of his guys bumps you, then it will also call the interference penalty. Is this a glitch? It's iffy.
