Turn your brightness down from "Surface of Sun" setting to about 50% or less. That will help. Also turn contrast/sharpness down from "Cutting Diamonds" sharp setting to also about 50% or less.
If you haven't changed anything from when it came from the store you are already destroying your set since out the box most TV's are set for "Highbeam".

There should be a zoom picture setting. That might zoom in the picture and not display the bottom bar. However, it will not give you the crispest image. Also, check to see that you have a screen wipe option. It will white out the screen. Leave this on for about 30 mintues and it should be gone. Is your plasma new? I think they require about 100 hrs break in time, or so the guy at HH Gregg said.
I had a plasma from Hitachi. The guy at HH Gregg talked me out of an LCD, saying that plasmas were bullitproof now, and that they were better for gaming. Wrong. I kept getting ghost images. Even 1 five minute quarter of NCAA would result in a image that I would have to wipe clean. The first time it happened, I just about had a heart attack. I thought I had ruined my investment. Let's face it, when you spend that much on an item, it's an investment. I went through 2 plasmas in about 6 weeks. Even the tv channel logos would ghost image. He totally lied. I finally brought it back and got a Sharp LCD. No problem with burn in or ghosting after that.

Be very careful. Val has a DLP TV (the mirrors one) and he has the red bar permanently burned on his TV now. Of course he plays a LOT, but if you don't have some method of wiping the image it could very well happen.

plasma's have the better pictures but if you play video games alot or watch espn with the sports ticker at the bottom of the screen, an LCD tv is the way to go cause it wont burn the images onto your screen no matter how much you play.

a ghost image is NOT the same thing as burn in.
the ghost image will dissapear, a burnt in image will remain.
i get these ghost images everytime i turn the channel, and it doesnt have to be on one channel for very long.
it is normal. dont be frightened. gaming with a LCD set is fine as long as you arent playing anything fast, like sports, same goes with watching fast paced programming on an LCD. the proccessors cannot keep up, resulting in "motion blur"
pros and cons for both types as you can see.

You definetley want to take that Plasma back and get A LCD. That's the risk you take when playing video games on a plasma. That not made for that! LCD will be fine regardless how much you game!

I have DLP and don't have any issues. Maybe I don't play it enough. But play a decent bit.

the tv i replaced was an lcd. i have two other plasmas and i have not seen or maybe not noticed this on the other two i don't see a ghost image on any of them when changing channels either. taking it back isn't necessary i have two 360s and push come to shove i could just not play games on this tv. i've watched some football games and most have some sort of bar on them and this didn't happen but there are more breaks from that static image via commercials and replays, i played for about 3hrs that night so it was there for awhile. wonder if after the breakin period is over if this will not happen as easily? the other two plasmas i have i purchased used so they were already past the breakin.

LCD > Plasma when it comes to gaming, period. Dont let anyone talk you out of that, at least not until plasma TV's can fully process everything the right way.

your on glue man.
maybe the older plasma's had those issues, but the new ones you get today are perfect.
burn-in is not an issue now. and you WILL see motion blur on LCD's. they are the sets that cant process everything the right way.

I have a sharp LCD that has 4 millisecond response time and 1080p. I have never seen any motion blur with any video game I have ever played, and I am an avid sports gamer. My former plasma was a 1080i, and it would blur on Winning Eleven Soccer. Goal kicks down the pitch would blur like no tomorrow. The same game on my LCD did not.
As far as real tv sports go, the only things that blur are golf and soccer. As soon as the action slows down, things go right back into focus. It's kind of a pain, but I never had a piece of mind with my plasma. It had an awesome picture, but I couldn't play the games I wanted without worrying about my screen. I drove my wife crazy obsessing about it. I miss the picture, but I love the piece of mind. Also, my Sharp has black levels that are rated better than plasmas, so I get the brights of an LCD(nothing better for daytime football games), and the darks of a plasma; all without the anxiety of burn in.
You have to weigh the pros and cons, because they are both great sets. I would love another plasma someday, and I am happy with my LCD.

It left an image of the bar at the bottom of the screen. :(
They need to hide the bar when the game is in progress. That would go a long way to solving that problem. I noticed that Madden on the PSP hides the bar as soon as the play is hiked. It just slides up and off the screen, leaving you the entire field to play on. It's nice to have all that room to see in addition to limiting the possibility of damage to someone's TV.

I'd love to get rid of that bar. It's just taking up space when I'm playing.
