View Full Version : An Improvement I'd Like To See With The WR's

I know this is harder to do with guys who are no longer playing, but I'd really like to see more realistic, individualism out of the WR's.

For example..Jerry Rice doesnt play like Jerry Rice in this game. He plays like Randy Moss.

ALL of the reciever pretty much play like this. Andre Reed was a posession reciever, but in APF, he can scortch you deep with no problem..Ive sent Dwight Clark on go routes against guys he'd never be able to get deep seperation from. Little Cliff Branch can make one handed leaping grabs 20 yards downfield with Ronnie Lott bearing down on him..Jerry Rice wasnt a guy who blasted by secondaries deep..he was a "catch a hitch/slant/cross on the run, make a cut and go" reciever. He could get deep, but that wasnt his greatest skill.
You can make ridiculous downfield plays with just about every reciever in this game.

I'd love more individualism... but as far as WRs catching too many deep balls... chicks dig the long ball.

How bout those skins.

I think we have a very good chance next week against Seattle......what do you think?

Higgus,

Absolutely. We should've had them in 2005 but Shawn Springs had a bad groin and worse, Ray Brown got cramps during the game and our backup center (who was not a good backup) was our starting right guard. I swear it looked Brunell was DLine glitched the rest of that game :(

We owe them. We owe those stupid Seattle fans who yell so loud you can't even hear the TV announcers.

Only chance Seattle has is Hasselbeck throwing all game... we know they won't run on the Skins.

Seattle's fans can get to anyone.. except for a team whos playing for their dead teammate. Can't shake them this time.. and we got the head coach to do this.

You guys should smoke Seattle no problem. Winning by exactly 21 points against the Cowboys? How much more motivation you need going into the playoffs?

Boffa, what are they going to do if Collins keeps on playing with this glass slipper on and Campbell gets healthy? This is assuming they beat Seattle. That's going to be a tough decision.

This is because of the idiotic defensive play calling I see from 75% of the people I play.

Haha..true, gotta take into account the idiot factor.

I played a dude earlier today who INSISTED on putting Charlie Watters out on an island on Dwight Clark..and doing the same blitz 80% of the game. Lets just say Dwight had a big game.

Gibbs has always liked veteran QB's that don't make mistakes. So, Collins will be in there until the slipper falls off. :)

wasn't that against the back up players and the fact that they didn't really need or care about the game?

Shhhhhhhh.... then they will come out and that was no excuse.
You know the same one they are making them for back in 2005, etc...

The skins should beat Seattle.
I think most of the hype is because Collins stepped into a system he is familiar with and the passing of Sean Taylor.
I had them picked to win all of the games.
It amazed me how other people didn't... considering everything.

Another thing 2K needs to do is have WRs actually attack the ball in the air.

Thats why fade routes don't work in this game, even to my gold Moss (Speed, Hops/Deep Threat, Soft Hands). My opponent is in man coverage with a short bronze corner with no safety help, and Moss doesn't even try to go up to get the ball. He just runs the fade, and then waits in the back of the end zone for the ball.

I have to agree that some players do play out of character, but just because some weren't put in that role a lot doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to do it in the game.
Some exceptions are acrobatics, sideline catches. I think they should be 2 seperate attributes.

I think the attacking issue is a little overblown.
Otherwise we will have too easy a passing system and trust me we won't like it.

I think two things should be in place to help minimize some features.
Defense: Stop having DB's with their backs to the ball out play a receiver who is looking the ball. It makes no sense for them to have their backs to the ball and further downfield and yet they are able to come up and hit the ball.

Offense: Basically the same thing as above for them as well. I don't mind max passing, but we all know if you know it well enough you can shred just about any defense.
If the player is not turned then the max passing effect should not be as accurate.
How can a receiver change on a ball he hasn't seen in flight yet?

If I max a deep throw inside or outside then my player shouldn't automatically adjust as it does not immediately after the release of the throw.
They need to look back and we will find LESS success on some of those adjusted deep throws as we should. The same with other patterns. Not looking back should effect accuracy with max passing.

Don't exaggerate abilities. I'm all for the turbo spin, but too is too effective where it gets unrealistic. I've been testing offline play and using the Legend team as my constant.
The coin toss seems to dictate how the game will run or even turn out IF I play a strict Sim game. I don't even hot route my receivers for the sake of the test.

When the cpu wins and receives, it seems like my games are a lot tougher especially if the cpu scores the 1st TD. Sanders will spin like crazy no matter what and his numbers are big. Otherwise he is average or contained and the game is a walk. Keep in mind I've been running this test since September of 2007.

^^^ Its not overblown, I'm just saying that I want the WRs to at least make an attempt to jump for the ball, and not just wait for it to get to them. These are HOF WRs and they can't even try to attempt for jump balls?!?

IMO the problem is that maybe the QBs are too accurate sometimes. When you watch football in real life, the reason of most of the incompletions is the QB not making the throw accurate or long enough. In this game, even Randall Cunningham threads the needle way too many times. In real life, even Tom Brady and Peyton Manning miss throws.

And if you actually play or watch a lot of football, you will know that the WR actually has the advantage over the DB, largely becuase of how strictly they enforce pass interference these days.

Being a Seattle Seahawks Die Hard fan forever I would have to say I doubt the Skins will beat them but again on any given Sunday anything can happen. If the Seahawks lost in the playoffs I would rather it be the Skins because of the emotional roller coaster that team has been through. I like Todd Collins but we will see what he is made of when the intensity is turned waaayyyy up :)

Not everybody is this game has made it in to the Hall OF Fame. I do get your point though.

The only starters they were missing were newman and T.O.

If those 2 guys make that big of a difference then cowboys fans better hope they don't get hurt.

It is way to easy to pass the ball in this game as it is.

Rice and Ditka play like Gods. I don't really see how they could do much more than they already do. If you want them to attack the ball in the air, try manually controlling the WR.

p.s. T.E's seem to attack the ball very well in the air.

LSUTIGERSPHXSUNS

To offset it, the QBs shouldn't be as accurate as they are, because pretty much all of the QBs can thread the needle every single play.
