You won't be able to see Sportscenter stuff in an NHL 2k9 game. Remember, EA Sports purchased the ESPN license years ago (yet, you don't see them using it in their Madden games). The exclusive license fiasco is complete B.S. and it robs the consumer of freedom of choice (to a degree).

I think they need to steal NBA 2k8s ability...left analog to do the stick stuff and move the player and right analog to shoot...

First of all gameplay should always be improved, 2k8 is good but not great.
No more goalies going through posts/nets
Less hitting
No more Dmen facing backwards against an opposing rush
More checking animations + hip checks
More penalties called i put it at 100 and still get games where there are 0 penalties called
Less deflected goals

-i only play online, so i would like online franchise mode, everything they have offline put in online leagues.

-for online rank games more options like playing people that use the same controls, also lock the view so it can't be always facing up or down. if someone can't play going up or down then learn.

-new rule to block out playing people you don't want to play with xbox live. if the person is just a pain to play with and you mark him as a person to avoid, when you play quick match it should never put you two with each other again.

- feedback rating system, the 2 ideas i have is 1. a person should have to play 3 full games to have the feedback even matter, this way you avoid bitter sore losers from messing up your feedback. or 2. able to adjust feedback within 30 min or something. so if you give a guy good feedback and figure it was a good game, but then find out he gave you neg feedback for no good reason you should be able to change yours.

- for the league site a quick and simply way to add stats to games. the in game stats are always right if the games are played but a lot of times it doesn't upload to the site. if a admin could update it his self that would be nice.

-more option when setting up a online league and also have the option they have now work when you ask them to. its a real pain to do the schedule yourself. its take me a long time to move 1500+ games around. also when i do even tho i get the schedule right there no way for me to keep track off home and away. when you pick division it does nothing, and when you tell it to make a schedule it just making you play everyone 3 times. simple tools and updates for league setting that work that's all i ask.

- as for more options if you get the ones you have now fixed and if for some reason we get what we want next season like online franchise make sure i can set up everything i like myself, like max salary cap minor league players.

-k so if none of the things above get done maybe you can give me 1 thing for next season.
"Carry Over Rosters" when the season end just ask before you say "would you like to start the season over" as us if we like to carry over rosters and schedule.

My suggestions:

Return to 2K7 controls as default controls...I have no problem with using the new controls myself, but I have friends come over that are hockey fans, but just don't play video games that much. They want to be able to just pick up the game and play it, not have to go through my explaining that you have to shoot with the right bumper, but if you want a slap shot then you have to hold the left trigger while you hit the right bumper and use the right analog to....etc.... Just keep defaults simple. X shoots, A passes, other buttons are whatever they are.

For season mode, an option to choose the number of teams in the league...i.e. the ability to make an "Original Six" season.

More classic NHL teams...at least 1 for every franchise.

As I think of more i'll post them, like pregnancy, we still have 9 months til the next one comes out.

Improved gameplay is always a must, no matter how good a sports game is; however, I do have one SIMPLE request that should not be turned down...

How about actually putting the surname Gretzky in the database for once, 2K? You have names like Lemieux and LaFleur already in there; there's no excuse to leave out Gretzky.

I have read tons of forum discussions and don't remember if I have seen anyone make the following suggestions, which is my opinion would make 2K hockey the best sports game ever:
1) Create franchise online or at least leagues capable of having computer teams. The biggest failure of all leagues is losers quitting - so let the commish sub in computer control for any MIA human owner and allow a new human owner replacement at any time!!! I can't understand why this has never been done!
2) Allow all positions to be played on 5-6 different remote 360's - this would be a riot!
3) Allow strategy and line changes to be done at faceoffs or any play stoppage - I don't know why this is limited to gameplay time only - I am busy PLAYING the game - it is a fast hectic game and trying to make strategy changes while playing is an invitation to a goal against.
If this was done - all other improvements are moot - the game play and controls are beautiful and don't need rework or will change people's game choice, like the above points.
This can/should be applied to 2k football, as well.

January 8th, 2008, 03:50 PM
1) SCRUMS! Anyone? Goalie covers the puck, opponent crashes net, sometimes a scrum breaks out. In rival games and games with more hitting; more scrums should break out.

2) For the love of God please call a few more penalties. A game with 2 power plays in the entire game should be a rarity, not an every game thing.

3) While we're calling more penalties, why is there no holding call and no high-sticking call? Why are there no major penalties besides fighting; and no game misconduct penalties?

4) Offensive strategy setting to cycle the puck. Every NHL team now will cycle the puck down low; none of the o-strategies in 2k8 has the capability to cycle.

5) Obviously it would be nice if the glitches were removed PRIOR to the release of the game

1.Better Atmosphere:Louder crowds after goals before the opening faceoff, after goals(shootout, penalty shot, regular) and for at 30 seconds after the announcer says who scored and such.Post shots should have a higher ding.Maybe add the sound of players sticks hitting when there is a scrum along the boards or in front of the net.

2.Better Offense and Defense AI:Offense AI lacks that killer instinct on breakaways, shootouts or penalty shots.Players pass up on open shots way too often.I wanna see skilled players trying their best dekes to draw the goalie out of position on a breakaway or during a shootout.I would also like to see more shots taken from the point.
On defense checking needs to be limited to along the backboards following a dump in.I want to see more positional play with players using their sticks to block passing and shooting lanes.Make pinning along the boards much more prominent.Pinning should be made easier for the user as well so that more scrums along the boards are possible.

3.Graphics and Animations:Players faces(especially the big name players) should look even more like their real life counterparts. They just need more polish and a little more detail.Player jersey numbers need to be a little bigger.Skating animations need improved as do the checking animations. The stick flexing during shot would be a cool animation if you could add that.

4.CAP:I would love it if we edit all players faces.Better faces for Created Players would be nice. Most of those in 2K8 is just UGLY.A universal edit option for attributes would be awesome. Also more options in the Create the Arena.

Thank You for your time and effort!!

Playable minor league in franchise. EA has the AHL license, but you can still put in an option to play with those teams, similar to the scouting game. I'd like to use the players I draft without calling them up to the NHL roster.

I agree with the Atmosphere, the crowd noise is terrible. Maybe they should check out a playoff game in Edmonton and see how loud the rink can get and try to capture that....of course a playoff game in Edmonton might be a few years away

I think the defence is pretty good actually and the goaltending improvements were excellent, what I think that needs to be improved is the Offensive AI - even on HOF with CPU Offense on 100 it's still easy to hold them to under 3 goals.

But goals aren't everything, it's mostly the plays they pick, there should be more passing, more give and go and cycle play, more point shots. It just seems like they only go for dekes.

A few things I would like to see is commentary about previous games, like if Crosby was a player of the week (Which they should change to the 3 stars of the week like the NHL does) they should mention it during the game.

I think the Stanley Cup Presentation needs to vastly improved, I think it would be awesome if you actually were able to skate around the rink with the cup and hand it off to your teamates.

I think there should be an awards ceremony presenting the awards.I mean you play 82 games, 20 or so playoff games and there just doesn't seem to be much payoff for winning.

I think they need to give you the option of using the CBA or not for your franchise. I recently had to restart mine as in the second year players like Joe Thorton were in the minors.

I think you should be able to edit computer lines if you want to, that way you can keep the rosters/lines the same way they are in the real NHL making it more realistic.

AND BROKEN STICKS, how many times do you see a player break his stick - this should happen in the video game as well - it couldn't be that hard to include.

I also think each rink should have different ice characteristics. Ice in Edmonton is way different than the ice in Dallas.

I think injuries should be able to happen more often but not be as serious - more 1-2 week injuries rather than 2-4 month, 2-4 months should be rare.

Bring back the Skills Competition before the All-Star game, that was fun and should never have been removed.

Also bring back the drop pass and Icon Passing and get rid of one of the speed bursts (you only need one, it was a good attempt at something different but doesn't really do anything except take away a button which could be used for drop pass or something).

These are great ideas 2K I hope you are reading this.

I mean if NHL 07 for the PSP can have a better awards ceremony/banner raising/trophy presentation/and Stanley Cup Presentation than work needs to be done.

I second the option to avoid players. I think if you want to block play with them it should alert you if you make a challenge in the lobby.

For the last few releases of 2K hockey, there have been many mistakes that are very annoying.
For instance, why are there different pronunciations of a player's last name b/w Bob Cole and the arena announcer? Next time you play the Montreal Canadiens, listen to how they pronounce "Latendresse", or the Lightning's "Prospal". It is shame that details like that get over looked.

The goals that go in through the back of the net. I had 2 goals scored on me, online, in 1 game. My opponent even looked at the replay, in the pause menu, and let them count as if he or she worked hard for them. If I score a glitch goal like that, I would leave my net empty and let my opponent have that one (or however many) back. I guess I play more fairly then others.

I have the PS2 version of NHL 2K8, and I am so annoyed with Bob Cole and Harry Neale's lackluster play by play. I have bought this game for the last 3 seasons and they are the worst that I have had to listen to. It is the same play by play every year.

You guys (and girls, if there are any that responded) have covered quite a few. The ones that I have mentioned are the most annoying to me. I will have a PS3 soon and I will add more if I decide to go with NHL 2K8.

2K8 and NHL 08 both had to put in jersey codes this year if they wanted the jerseys in the game. They promised the NHL that they would not show the public the new jerseys until after all NHL teams have unveiled their new jerseys at their own press conferences.

Once all of the teams showed off their new jerseys, the code was made available; unfortunately, some idiots over at EA Sports obviously leaked their code, as the code was made public long before all of the jerseys were unveiled. For that reason alone, the NHL should refuse to deal with EA Sports (should... but not gonna happen).

Ah, another EA fanboy. God bless such idiots! :rotfl:

"Product defects"? Look no further than the EA hockey games, where you're LUCKY if both your own goaltender and the goaltender for the CPU team manage to save a lowly 50% of their shots!

With or without slider tweaks, and regardless of difficulty levels, the EA hockey games are complete and utter ****. It's a shame, since EA generally does a good job with control responsiveness; however, they have a long way to go before any of their hockey games can be considered DECENT, let alone great.

And the more important question is for EA Sports: How difficult can it be to make a game where the goalies at least have some semblance of intelligence? That bum Dany Sabourin will win a Vezina in real life before EA ever gives hockey gamers good goaltending.

if this was somehow possible they should have coaching through the headset. like u can speak into it to change ur lines or on the fly coaching. cuz sometimes when ur changing it holding l trigger and pushin d pad u could get burned by the other team. so just like say "Forward 1". and they go out. or "pinch" and the d men pinch. and for online play u would just have to flick the d pad for it to come on like in halo.
no clue if its possible or not

1. Get rid of those freezes. I have 2K8 for PS3 and it freezes every single time at end of November at season one on franchise mode.

2. Since there are classic teams I though it would be great to have them little bit more. Cleveland Barons 1978, Colorado Rockies 1978, Nordiques 1986, Capitals 1986, Hartford Whalers 1987... I know some teams really sucks back then but would it be nice to try play those already gone organisations?

3. More equipments. Because the graphics are so good already there might be good change to wear classics teams as they were. Helmets from 80's and 90's as Jofa VM and then popular Cooper (style Messier) that Chris Odgood and Dan Cloutier still use. Old skates from 60's and 70's and wooden sticks.

4. Uniforms of Hartford Whalers. There are Seals, North Stars, Rockies, Jets, Nordiques but no Whalers. Why?

I know this is hard because of licenses, but more players. AHL and players that are under contract of AHL teams. Also more of those who are young drafted but not still under NHL contract. Would be great to play franchise if there are real players to use (and if the Franchise Mode works whitout freezing).

I agree mostly with all of your guy's ideas, some good ones. but the main thing i don't like about 2k8 for the PS3 is the fact that you only have 4 presentation views, 3/4 , parametric, non-predictive, and side. What ever happened to the crazy close ups of Rink view or Rink Action. Granted it was very hard to see the whole ice but i liked to experiment with it, especially in s.o.'s And the graphics were just awesome in that view.:(

I made a post like this awhile back, but I will repost it.

My List of Needed Improvements(some things might have been said already):

~ Deeper Create a Player/team/arena
-More equipment, and more faces, heads, etc.
-more rinks, and different features.
- The ablility to make accurate jersey and the ability to upload your own team logo (Xbox360) b/c I can view pictures from my computer if I have it connected to my computer so why not make that useful.

~Fix Goalie glitches
- Me and my friend played our FantasyDraft fanchise and he decked my goalie, Roberto Luongo, and luongo threw the puck into the net and it counted and he did not have a penalty.
-When the goalies are Parallel to ice or in the 'Y' pattern, to not try to kcik up their legs in an odd fashin to kick the puck out of the air
- To not turn their back to the play when they do a certain sprawl save
- To not have the power to be a vaccuum Cleaner
- Not have pucks go through equpitment
- I have a video of my goalie swimming in the crease, that's a problem.
- Goalie visio to not freeze.

~ Shooting
- I've missed empty nets becuase my player tried to wind up when taking a wrist shot instead of fireing into the empty net.
- I've scored goals and they haven't counted.
-Sticks Flexing and Breaking <-not the best idea but would be more realistic.

~ Checking
- I have found it extremely difficult to do open ice checks such as hip checks and other open ice hits. I also find my self hitting players and bounceing off them.
- More penalties, its like were playing hockey in the 60's. You gotta physically do damage to get a penalty called. Illegel checks: behind , high, elbowing, these happen all the time and are annoying.
-More penalty shots.

~Franchise
- The Tradedeadline glitch to be happily fixed
- I haven't had problems in November but that could be fixed as well.

~Audio
-New Anouncers (sorry guys you need to be replaced)
- Louder Crowd
-Names be properly Pronouced and no screw ups
Ex: I was playing as the Nj Devils and Danius Zubrus goes to take a face off and Bob Cole and Harry Neil state: "Weekes at the faceoff circle." (Kevin Weekes is the backup goaltender, whoops...)
- For the game to be able to pronouce created Characters names, Car GPS's do it so can NHL 2K9.

~Other
-Trades need to be more balanced, the computer tried to rip me off alot...
- All Star game revamping
-Better stanely cup winning ceremony and better awards ceremony
- Retireing jersey numbers
-Mini games to not be directly taken from 2K7

Good thing from 2K8:
Great goalie ai
I like the pro stick thingy.
All star moves are cool
I Like the depper franchise
Graphics
Like the abilty to alter music and such

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned already or not, but I would like them to bring back the feature where you can name your coach and manage your coaching staff. Im not sure if you can still do it with the PS2 or 360 version, but it really disappointed me when I discovered that the feature was not added to the PS3 version. Also, as a neat addition to this, i think that once a coach gets fired from another team, you should be able to hire that coach to your staff, like you can do on the Madden NFL Games, which are made by EA.

I have two simple requests that should not be denied at all.

1. How about actually being able to claim the CPU players off waivers in the PS2 version next time, 2K Sports?

2. How about some better trading logic, eh? I'm tired of seeing nearly half the league get traded to new teams. I recall seeing Joe Sakic get traded FOUR TIMES in one season!

Quite frankly, the best trade logic I ever saw belonged to an older BASEBALL game. World Series 2K3. That game had perhaps the best trading logic I ever saw. Sure, you still find steals in trades (since trades are mainly decided by overall ratings, which is a somewhat flawed system); however, World Series 2K3 had some specific players that teams would REFUSE to trade. I wouldn't mind seeing that kind of logic applied to hockey games as well.

As stated earlier, gameplay is great, but a few things are still missing. I'd love to see the following:

1) I agree that checking animations need to be expanded to include hip checks.
2) More realistic situational injuries. How come no one ever gets hurt when blocking a blistering slapshot?
3) Similar to the NFL2K series, a narrated game highlight wrap up.
4) Realistic goalie helmet paintjobs.
5) More penalties, including double minors and majors/misconducts along with suspensions.
6) Blood.
7) Full minor league rosters.
8) Broken sticks.
9) The ability to change the appearance of rookies appearances. Some of the ones included in the downloads are not even close to their real-life counterpart.
10) Goal songs!!!
11) Goalie injuries
12) Bing back the skills competition events!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about the most important thing for next year 2ksports. That is making a game that doesn't freeze!!!!!!!!! 2K puts out the best hockey games but so many people including myself are forced to buy EA because 2K's games freeze.
-How about in playoffs having the crowd lowder and more into the games. More chants. Make it like a real playoff atmosphere.
- Better fights! Fighting is a huge part of hockey make the fights fun and the crowd and teams get into it more.
- How about scrums around the net after someone drives to the net like in real life.
-Better rival. More intense when you play a team that you are rivals with.
-Be able to play and manage your minor team like EA did this year.
-Change opening graphics in the playoffs.
That is just some things that I think would make the game alot more like real life. Main thing is make a game that doesn't freeze!!!!!

Feedback should be removed, overly aggressive players who lose and are not very happy about a last second shot will give someone bad feedback. People are refusing to play against me because I won so many games in NHL 2k6, If anything create a different rating or wipe the ratings after each game release for that game. Yes I cheesed in 2k6 but that doesn't mean i did in 2k8 or that I do in NBA or MLB. Every sport is different, therefore ratings should follow that trend.

- IIHF license (better international UNIs - and playing a Junior tournament in between your NHL games in a franchise would be KILLA!)

- AHL, Common already at least let us play with the generic minor teams (at least!!!!)

- why isnt there the codes to unlock everything, for series followers like me, its not fun having to unlock everything again and again every year

- more goalie mask customization and also jerseys

- wheres the rest of the people on the bench ,(trainers, assistant coaches, what about gms in the press boxes)

- i never want to be able to raise ticket prices or hot dog prices, your franchise rocks, but seriously Id kinda like to play subsequent AHL games to my NHL games, then Id KNOW who id like to call up. and if you can't get the AHL then just create the BHL or QHL, just give us all the **** hell its already there

- BENCH CLEARING BRAWLS, or while your fighting, you see at least 1 or 2 fights or tussels going on around you, theres maybe many reasons as to why this cant be put in the game, and i know them and understand, but you gotta know that your game would be BOSS if you did.

1.Improve the Offensive AI to be more aggressive(shooting the puck when they have a shot and trying to Deke the goalie out of his pads).Improve the Defensive AI to play more positional hockey using their sticks more to block shooting and passing lanes along with trying to poke check the puck away.I would like to see mostly scrums along the sideboards for the puck and most of the checking happening along the backboards.

2.More Atmsphere.Louder more involved crowds.New commentators if possible and the post hit sound needs changed.

3.More and varied penalties.Using the Pro Stick on D to poke check never results in any tripping calls, this needs to change.Having ALL Refs in the game would be nice as well.

4.Skating,shooting,and checking animations need updated.Player's faces could use more polish and the Jersey #'s on the back need to be slightly bigger along with the player names.

First let me say that I like the game and that I really don't know why I write this, because 2k Sports don't seems to care much what their custumers think.

You should do a little clean up in the free agent list, Bondra, Mogilny, Ricci and some more players that have stop playing should be taken off that list.

You should also tweak the commentary. How many times they talk about a goalie having a bad game "he gave up 5 goals..." and the game is 2 to 1, or when they speak about the +/- rating of a players they are always wrong or when they speak about the PP or PK performance of a team during the game, they're always wrong on that also.

You should tweak the penality, it's not normal that I can play 2, 3 or more games and the CPU team don't have any panality and I put the penality to 100%.

Fix the one timers and the goals from the blue line, maybe before it was too easy but now it's almost impossible to score.

Fix the hitting, don't get me wrong I like the hitting but not every players should be able to hit with power. Like Hemsky, Brière, St-Louis, Streit, Selanne and many more, they're should be able to hit but not very hard, so the opposing players should maybe lose the puck, but they should stay up or fall really rarely. You did it for the puck control, you certainly can do it for the hitting.

More customising for the goalies masks, more patterns, more logos even some logos that don't have anything to do with the teams, like snake, wolf, ship, lion, tiger... you know what I mean and in the patterns there shouldn't be any black area, we should be able to choose every color we want.

It would be great to be able to make the face of the created player, put the facial hairs option back in and don't forget the teeth.

The injury should be more realistic. How many time the player get injured when receiving the puck from a pass or just having a little contact with another player? The injuries should happen when a player block a big slap shot, or if he receive a shot on the face and when he gets crushed in the board or in the middle of the ice.

The fatigue is just not right, I play all my lines and every team I play against just play 2 and a half line and it seems only my team gets tired.

Adjust the higher level of play, I play on pro because it's just to frustrating at all star, it's just unfair, you get hook, even when you win the faceoff you can't do anything, the CPU is too fast on the puck. The CPU players all skate and control the puck like they don't have any difference in the rating, while my players don't, it's really hard to make the CPU lose the puck, while the CPU make lose the puck just with the wind he makes when he comes near one of my player, if you add the fatigue to that it's even worst, I could go on and on ...

Why a young created player don't have the rookie salary cap?

Fix the bugs before release, the franchise freezing bugs, not that it has happen to me but it should be fixed.

Don't forget to adjust the mask on the goalies head, so their head don't come through.

That's all for now, if I think of something else I'll let you know.

Edit: Don't do too much to the new controls, I really like them this way, maybe a little tweaking here and there, but not too much.

Bring back the all star skill competition.

No, no, a thousand times, no! It's fine as it is. I like the fact that I can sign a player such as Morozov, Koltsov, or Belfour (rather than having to create them). If you don't want these players to be in your game, then just simply "retire" them on your roster file. You can retire these players by signing them to an NHL team, and then choosing to CUT those players from the EDIT LINES menu.

These players should continue to be in the 2K games. It would be wise to keep them in the games until they OFFICIALLY file their retirement papers.

Hmm. I haven't done that method yet for 2K8, because I was busy editing so many NHLers (edited almost 180 of them thus far) and creating rookies (I am still creating rookies). It worked in 2K6 and 2K7; therefore, it's logical to assume it would work in 2K8.

I'll test it out and see if it works for me. Keep in mind that I have the PS2 version.

things i would like to see

1.diffrent anouncers for sure the current ones suck and are boring

2.broken sticks players who get hit have to recover there sticks and ones that get it broken run to bench to get another as well as goalies who lose there sticks in the heat of battle i have seen them some times use there legs and hands till they could get there stick back.

3. penaltys more types of penaltys and called way more often i mean it should be if you put it at 100 every play should be a penalty that way we can set what we feel is right and the to many men on the ice penalty would be nice as well.

4. real maker for those who actually get it why cant we save are team replays the ones we want then durring the pre game intros it will zoom in on are teams jumbo tron were music will play and you see on the jumbo tron your real maker highlights while cool songs play that we can use or add are very own mp3s to play durring the pre game intro also when they show the current copper stopper replays or what ever replays zoom in on or scoreboard jumbo tron what ever you want to call it.

5.2kshare

6.goalie masks the current ones are laime nhl 08 does a great job at zooming in on the goalies and showing off there masks 2k please get some awesome masks and the ability for use to purchase alternate masks uniforms or the ability to create or upload are own

6.sound is not as clean as nhl 08 that games sound track for shots and crowd i was impressed by it.

7. puck physics the puck needs to be sideways on end whatever it very rearly is flat in real nhl and the thing that bothers me unless i facing one way the dump pass is weak if i choose to dump of the board with choosing to shoot it it goes strait towards the goalie i want to be able to pass or dump using the boards and the cpu hardly ever dumps the puck.

8. no more cpu logic sending there star players to waivers i tired of seing the stars of teams get waived .

9.cyber faces there terrible in the game only a few were done good so give us a great way to create or edit them as well as make are own and being able to share them.

10.passing when your making a long pass it should get goofed up were you have to recover depending on who is doing the passing i mean the puck should be bouncing over my stick if its to hard a pass or if the guy passing is not good then i have to recover before i can proceed.

11. accurate ice for each rink and characteristics

12. the ability for replaying goals the refs should stop the clock sometimes and review shots were soetimes they say yep it was a goal or no it wasnt maybe the clock was just ending or maybe they just didnt see it .

13 multiple ref crews with there own penalty stle game calling some crews are passive some call everything.

14. better stanley cup winning celebration maybe you make it as great as you are what i mean is every person who scores a point durring the finals or if your goal has shutouts the cpu keeps track so when you win they celebrate every person who actually does well will hold the cup some kind of team reward were they will al get to hold cup if they do well so the better you play the better the celebration.

15. if we win the cup make it so we can collect some bling bling rings for are teams.

16. please have some kind of reply were i can actually see my teams logo on the pucks.

17. play calling and line changes durring pause or before faceoffs in game is to hard to do it for sure.

18.broken glass froms shots or body slams.

19.this is next gen right why cant we get some of the logos and banners looking metallic

20.i want to see my buildings rafters so i can see the banners hanging

21. award presentations durring games would be nice as well

22. show use the crowd walking around and the outside of theses venues as well as inside like mlb 2k7 does

My wihlist priorities:

1) fix the multiple Users play on the same day bug (PS3) and franchise freezes

2) User Mp3 songs. (MLB the Show is doing it this year!)

3) user controlled StanleyCup celebrations (i.e. pump the cup, kiss it, pass it to teamate etc.)
-then gather and take your own picture to hang up in the skybox

4) revamped fighting, where you can throw punches really fast, like ol' Wendel Clark

Yes, he was good. Hell of a player, but he was also a cheap-shotting *****. The refs should've let Grimson go and do what he wanted with Clark.

I like Clark as a player, but he often disgusted me with his dirty play on the ice. Adam Graves, as well. I almost puked when I heard of idiots like Melrose over the years having such great praise for thugs like Graves and calling him a "classy" player. Classy, my foot! Was he a good player? YES. Classy? HELL NO.

I think everybody has thrown a cheap shot at one point or another; however, what irks me is players who repeatedly do so (Dale Hunter comes to mind). I have far more respect for guys like Esa Tikkanen and Guy Carbonneau than I'll ever have for thugs like Hunter.

I would like for NHL 2K9 to treat on-ice injuries the way NHL 08 does (which is a lot more realistic). Generally, the whistle is blown on a legitimate stop of play. It isn't blown the moment the ref believes that someone is injured. That only happens in the wonderfully boring world of soccer.

Me again!

You should tweak the Power Play, so they're more realistic, we should have the ability to work in the zone (a bit like in NHL 08, but only on PP not all the time like in NHL 08).

Maybe we can do that already, I just can't say for sure with the CPU teams never getting any penality.

1- Collision detection like NHL08 or FIFA08. The players bump each other and react. They don't just "stop" like in this game.
2- WAY better DEF AI. Have the players STOP running away from the puck and go to it.
2a- Don't let the entire team rush one player with the puck!
3- Proper set up defensively for PKs. (The PK team does NOT rush the off player with the puck in real life.)
4-OFF should rush the net NOT the boards.

Bottom line, someone should send 2k a copy of a real hockey game and tell them watch it. Maybe we'll have a "real" hockey game next year.....*cough*....

I should mention that there is one thing which greatly annoys me in both the EA and the 2K games: defensemen often staying behind the blue line when you have the puck in the attack zone. I hate having the puck at the LW side, being pressured, and throwing a pass back to the defender, only to find that the defender is sometimes behind the blue line. Once I throw that pass to him, I have two options: (1) bring the puck in offsides or (2) wait for my players to get back onsides.

I'm not sure how many of you will agree with me on what I'm about to say, but here goes: I felt that EA's NHL 2004 did the best job of implementing passing into the games. Yeah, NHL 2004 had a two-button system for passing; however, what I liked about their system was the fact that you could control the velocity of your pass, and you could pass wherever the hell you wanted to. Being pressured by relentless forecheckers? Bank it off the boards if you desire!

I'd like to see 2K Sports come up with some kind of mapping system that will enable us to pass much in the manner that EA's NHL 2004 did. If they can improve the AI of the game AND provide us the ability to make life-like passes... WHAT A GAME THAT WILL BE!

For me if EA has historical teams and 2K makes no improvements there will be no 2K9

Gameplay

Fix the Hitting

Hitting is insane and the most annoying aspect of gameplay, players go for a check instead of the puck when in the offensive zone..even if you control them and settings seem to have little impact...Gretzky going for a check instead of a loose puck?

Improve the cycle feature - L1 cant be shoot and one of the players

Improve the wrap around ...does it even work?

Position Play - allow some configuration to set aggressiveness / offensive attitude of defenders - play the line or in the defensive zone..

Offense...keep the players in the zone longer

Special Moves - provide some umph to them, they should have better odds of being on net and more than 10 mph...let them impact the goalie or something

Penalties...make them more realistic , minors, majors and misconducts...do they ever lead to injuries?

Historical Teams - Dont make us unlock them This is cruel and unusual punishment and not to mention impossible for some teams...no codes, no saves, no on-line roster help, nothing

- 10+ games to get Montreal 93 and after meeting the goal the team wont unlock - bug or torture ?- for the 94 Rangers and Canucks the programmers must hate these teams or are just plain sadistic - i have tried way to many times and will never get them unlocked...

Historical Teams - add some new ones for crying out loud, let them be in seasons with created teams, more arenas, add players to rosters ....playoff teams before the trades for season play

Arena edits - horns and music

International Teams - add some new ones - that make sense! some real jerseys would be nice...or at least alternates

Visual - broken sticks, real goalie mask art !

Player edit - provide a name reset, so you dont have to delete before editing, let NO helmet be an option, facial editing, teeth / no teeth

Ice girls and Zambonis at intermission when stats are displayed

maybe a new camera angle or two

I am convinced 2K never reads any of these threads and isn't interested in their products after release, but I hope so, because if EA gets the whole show, there will never be any improvements in Hockey video games because they will rehash (Madden) it forever and PS3 might as well be PS2 because the system upgrade has only meant an increase in game costs.

Hello,

I would be willing to bet that 2KSports does, in fact, read their forums. Maybe not every post or every thread, but they have to keep up with current events and their customers' wishes and requests. They are bound to stumble upon at least some of these posts or comments.

If they didn't, the games would not continue to develop the way they do. So obviously they must listen to some degree. And while they may not be able to implement every request and feature (due to programming or licensing issues), they should be praised for the level of detail and attention which already exists within this hockey game.

Having said that, there is always room for improvement. Therefore, I humbly submit my wish list, knowing all too well that whether or not they will attempt to implement any of my suggestions - still, I will buy NHL 2K9 the day it hits store shelves in the fall of '08.

1. As the volume and game play increases during rivals matches, the same should apply in playoffs. Every hockey fan (and hockey gamer) wants to LIVE the playoff run experience. To play 82 games of regular season and another 20+ in the post-season and have virtually identical results, with a 30-second clip of your team celebrating the Cup and the crowd noise being the same as any other, is exceptionally disappointing.

IMPROVE THE PLAYOFF GAMES IN EVERY WAY: improve the fans' reactions, the music, the sounds, change up the commentary for playoff purposes, increase physical play, improve the AI skills for playoffs and 'occasionally' have the refs put their whistles away for a game or two in every round. Also, create some sort of incentive for winning the playoffs: the short video of your team winning the Cup simply does not cut it. As a fan of hockey and a user of the game, I believe that the weak finish to the game is very poor and should definitely be addressed. Maybe when you win the Cup, you unlock certain items - whatever. But please please please do something about the end of the game. And I don't care to see the credits either, thanks.

2. Small improvements would go a long way. Obviously, programming and space issues come in to play, but little fixes will make for a less-frustrating overall experience. The programming is too predictable and the players all seem to move in the exact same manner - during each beginning to every game, there is no change up with player movement - whether I am watching Toronto or Anaheim, or any other team. The same theory applies to players all celebrating the same way, or looking disappointed after being scored on. A little variety would be appreciated, and certainly will not be much of a hog on the processor.

IMPROVE THE VISUAL ASPECT OF PLAYER MOVEMENT: improve player reactions, create celebrations for star players (i.e. Ovechkin's energetic jump & fist pump, Spezza's spin of his stick, Kovalchuk's bang on the glass, etc.), create diverse expressions and apply them randomly yet appropriately so that each game has a slightly different feel to it. Improve penalties so that when a user sets the slider to '0' then the game is played with no calls whatsoever, and when the slider is set to '100' then everything is called, all the time. Create phantom calls by officials (since they don't use names, licensing should not be an issue), allow for mistaken calls, bad calls, etc. Occasional blunders by the CPU or USER-controlled players is always a bonus. Off-ice antics would also be welcome. REALISM is what this game portrays; realism is what it should provide.

3. The parametric presentation of the game is a fantastic improvement, but I see one more addition that could potentially make this game even more exciting: a side-view that is also parametric. Basically, the same view as if you were watching the game on tv. When in corners, the camera can pan over but still maintains the center ice position but zooms much more effectively.

Speaking of video, suppose that when your star player is on a break-away, once he shoots, the game could switch to a higher-resolution cut scene, where you see the puck flying in slow-motion and possibly (if programming allows), have some control over where the puck goes. Similarly, if you are the goalie and the CPU is on a break-away against you, it would be pretty slick to see a video from the goalie's point-of-view, or perhaps from within the net? A goal-cam, maybe? Additional footage from past hockey games, perhaps? Team-specific intros before each game, and playoff-oriented intros during playoffs, hopefully?

4. Franchise mode. So much to do, so little programming time and space. The fixes are obvious (not being able to pick up CPU-waived players, game freezing in mid-season, etc.) but improving the overall experience may not be all that difficult. The AI should try to trade less often in the early months of the season, and increase trading frequency in the month of the deadline, while having the most trades in the league on the day of the deadline. Also, some players should have statistics that make them exceptionally easy to trade, while others should be virtually impossible to move.

Another improvement that I could see wired into the Franchise Mode would be a variety of involvement in the series: for instance, if I want to simulate the majority of regular season activities and focus on basic franchise growth, I should be able to - and vice-versa, if I want to have complete G.M. control over everything related to the game, I should have that option as well. It wouldn't be all that hard to implement: when selecting the Franchise Mode in GAME MODES, a sub-menu could appear with such selections.

I don't see much point to the FAN BASE section, so if you're going to have it, make it worth while. Perhaps having a half-filled arena with fans for teams that are sucking badly during the season, and packed arenas (louder atmosphere) for teams with winning records or during playoffs would be beneficial and will show how successful a team appears at individual games and not just on a boring chart. Incorporating sales and marketing into the game may be exciting (purchasing banners and advertisements for the boards, etc.) but the producers of the game will likely run into licensing issues. I guess they can always make up their own names for sales within the game's franchise mode: MUDWEISER, FOLSON CANAJUN or LAMATT GLUE....

5. FIGHTING (and blood). As much as I enjoy realism and wish for improved fighting (both visually and effectively), the fact remains that this is a family-oriented game (see ESRB ratings) and as such, blood will likely never appear in the game. However, I see no problem replacing the blood with sweat (i.e. Mortal Combat, edited version). Also, the fighting is ridiculous - quite often, players just skate in various directions and stare up at the sky. No offense, but I've seen better fighting on my old Atari 2600. Improve the fighting dynamics or remove fighting altogether (or replace it with cut-scenes of fights, whatever - just fix it!).

I'm sure that there are plenty of wishes for the next series... And I know I have a lot of little bones to pick with the game, but they're mostly minor things and I can't remember all of them. But I hope that mine are reasonable and not overly complicated to program in to the game. Good luck, 2K!!!

Good luck, 2K!!!Good post.I like to see someone that respects the developers and their time.Someone who tries to offer constructive advice rather than just criticizing 2K.

ps. I have the PS2 version - not sure if any of my requests are addressed in the PS3 version.

Oh yah - a SAVE REPLAY feature would be welcome. That way, when people don't believe me that I can dipsy-doodle around the entire opposing team and score like a demon (haha, ya right!), I could save it on the mem.card for later viewing.

Online franchise, bring everything offline to online. that means rookie draft, salary cap, waivers, RFA and UFA and 30 years to carry over, so stats and rosters carry over season after season.

also change the online format or add a FPS format. what i mean by this is have 10 player lobby's where you can have anywhere from 1v1 to 5v5 online games. doing this will grow the game and you can even have clans and that would be fun. you could even add things to unlock, and custom your player skates and sticks or whatever. you don't have to go that far now but having 5v5 online with every player on there own 360 would be great.

EA has started to do this with basketball and i think you can do 3v3 in NHL08. To me this is a big deal since i don't play offline at all.

one more thing i would like to see is the CPU control team if a person drops from a league, or if i sim the game it plays it out like if you where going to sim a game in offline franchise. that way we get stats and the outcome will be random.

Team chemistry is a good idea, but you should get team chemistry in real game not in practice. Your first line score a goal, the players (offensive or defensive) with points get chemistry, your defenseman block a shot, your defensive line get chemistry, you get scored on, the 5,4 or 3 players on the ice lose chemistry, you kill a penality, you get some, you score on a PP, you get some, you win, all the team get chemistry, you lose, all the team lose chemistry...

An idea I have, I notice when ever my Bruins play in Canada, Chara gets boo'ed whenever he touches the puck. Could they add this? Maybe even with other players as well? Say a player with an overall rating above 82 leaves via free agency, have his former teams home crowd boo when he has the puck? Maybe the idea is too far fetched

It seems like crowd reaction/interaction is up there in terms of wishes and requests.

Hey, 2KSPORTS: we die-hard hockey fans want the best of the best of the best! It's possible that the majority of your gamers don't give a **** about the crowd, they just wanna play and score lots of goals.. But for us losers who love the game that much more....... you know......

one thing I noticed that requires fixing:

The game has a glitch in the scoreboard - I played a match where I won in a shoot-out. No goals were scored in the game or in O/T.

However, when I exit the match and check the schedule to see who is next (in season/franchise mode), the score of the last game shows as 2-0. I think there is some programming confusion, because it's two points for the win - yes, but still the game itself was only 1-0.

This seems to be a trend in all played matches. Mildly annoying.

February 24th, 2008, 05:49 PM
i thought there were injuries in the game. if anything, they may need to be fixed as in you either get WAY too many injuries or you get none.

the MAIN thing we need is:

1. online franchise. 30 man franchise mode would be HUGE for this game. 2k has a VERY strong online league community. satisfy the masses 2k, cmon.

2. let people (as in admins at least) watch other league games. so many times you hear league members complain about cheating or whatever. a lowly game like table tennis allows people to spectate games, how bout you let us watch our games. what would be better than a league playing the stanely cup finals and the members of the league that didnt make it could watch on the side. that would be GREAT!!!!

The number 1 thing that needs to be improved upon in this game is TRADING!!! Most of us play franchise mode and can all agree that managing the team is almost as important as gameplay.

My recommendations:

1. Basic - have the AI include draft picks in trades (they never do this and it's retarded)

2. Allow draft picks to be traded spanning multiple years (ex - 1st round 2009, 4th round 2010).

3. Make AI smart enough to determine Buyers and Sellers at as the trade deadline approaches. It's retarded when a contender trades away it's superstar near the trade deadline. Sellers should be motivated to free up cap space as the trade deadline approaches. They should look to dump high-salary players for draft picks (multi year of course). Buyers should be motivated to trade draft picks to get help for a cup run.

4. Use real NHL contract structures (Jarome Iginla - $40 million/5 years). No trade clauses are a nice-to-have to add an element of complexity to the game but no biggie if it's not added.

That's it... cmon 2K... let's stop worrying about goal horns and really focus on improving the elements in the game that suck!!!

I think the fighting engine in this game is weak I am not saying that it should be like rediculous, but I think instead of more fights maybe there should be the little scrums in front of the net like if an opposing player runs into a goalie also maybe like an instigator player type like Sean Avery who dont really fight but are good at drawing penalties. I think the role of enforcer should more realistic you guys may not approve of fighting but i with a guy like Georges Laraque around teams are much less willing to lay a hit on him and he is more productive. They could put in the intigator rule in were you get a 1 game suspension for a fight in the last 5mins (not sure if thats the rule exactly) Also if its possible they should have a seperate mode on trading deadline day were you get alloted time to try and make your team better. For example if you have a player with an expiring contract at the end of the year that you are unlikley to be able to keep you can get messages and phone calls in trying to aquire your player and have it work the same way kinda similar to the draft in Madden 08. I think they should have scouting in the game for draft picks for College and juniors. Finally a full roster of AHL teams and playable ahl franchises. I think rivarly factors can add some flare like when PITT and PHI get together its always a real physical game.

One thing I really wish for, is the ability to change teams in franchise ( Ie be Fired or sign a new GM contract with another team). Also, the ability to have a REAL Budget function( board of director allowing you funds based off Attendance, TV Contracts and merchandise, Possibility to change prices on items sold, ask for funds to upgrade your arena( Adding seats) and to build a new one( More fan appeal)... Also, adding a deeper Minor LEague system (AHL mostly but also ECHL), Option to set default jersey, Board of Governors too( votes on league wide stuff such as smaller goalie equipment to raise attendances), Possibility of Franchises beeing moved, shut down and expansion....

Oh and most importantly, the ability to create our own play style, positioning and each Ie: 2 Players in front of the net, 1 D man at center of the point the other right between the two faceoff circles and the ''Center'' of that line marauding for the puck around. Very offenssive style that aims for Point and Slot shots with 2 players blinding the goalie but easily scored againsn't (2VS1)

- Broken Sticks.

- Warmup before game: Being able to control guys for like 5 mins before the game starts, just shooting pucks around, etc. (Can skip if you want).

- Scrums after whistles!!!!!

- Fights at appropriate times, I hate seeing my allstar get nailed and then not being able to fight the guy that did it (Button to drop the gloves?).

- More hitting animations.

- Deeper franchise: Being able to get fired/hired on different team (guy above posted this as well), Control of ticket prices/food prices/etc., Minor leagues.

- More correct minor league rosters instead of made up characters.

- Dekeing was good this year but could always be improved.

- Announcers need to be improved, they have been saying the same things for years now!

Thats all I can think of for now! Will most likely add more later!

LAN Support - This would be huge. Imagine having some friends over and playing complete 6v6 games on anywhere from 2 (PS3), 3 (PS3 or 360) to 12 (PS3 or 360) consoles. Also, improve the camera to include the puck and all players being controlled on that console to be on screen at all times. That way it wouldn't be so hard to play the point, guessing where you are in relation to the blue line.

Player Type Ratings - Instead of having to use the Overall rating to quickly gauge players, there should be a rating for player based on their attributes related to their Chemistry Type. That way the best role player will be easy to find.

Custom Ratings - Let us create a formula that weighs a player's various attributes and see it next to the Overall and Chemistry ratings. If I want a really fast player, checking the top in both Speed and Acceleration takes a while. And if I want one that's durable too, it starts to get ridiculous. Let players define the attributes important to them and create their own ratings categories. Maybe even save them, too.

Better Roster Viewing - Let us arrange the columns in the Edit Lines, Rosters, and Trade screens. A lot of times what matters to me is finding a good player to trade for my minors team, but it's very time consuming to check if each player can be sent straight down without going through waivers. Salary is also a huge thing and it would help to always have the option to prominently display it when I'm looking at various teams' rosters. A filter would be nice, too (only show players with two way contracts, for instance).

Goal scoring situations should be more realistic, and not repetitive. I've noticed during online games the most popular and pretty much only way to score a goal is that same typical deke move. Goalies seem to have a brain malfunction when that move is used and its really annoying because everyone that plays online ONLY uses this move. For example rebounds and nice shots and useless because the goalies seem to make unbelievable saves which would never be made in real life. I love the game sooo much and i have always puchased the 2k games for every sport genre but this one move is ruining the game for me. 2k sports please fix this issue and the game will be perfect.

Since Steve at 2k sports decided to half ***** the creation of 2k8 for ps3, heres some of what must be added to make it the newest best hockey game.

-Higher frame rate for fast motion parts in the game for all those not using HD T.Vs
-ALL STAR WEEKEND WITH SKILL COMPETITION
-Improved Deking System, MORE PRECISE
DONT LEAVE OUT THE OLD BREAKAWAY SPECIAL MOVES (GOING TO THE MOON? ORES BEST)
-New Camera setting. (Parametric is beautiful when you can see where your going)
-Signature player moves. EA did a crap job in 2001.
-Improved Stradegy System (EVEN MAYBE CUSTOM??)
-BETTER REPLAYS (what with the rotating replay? Cool when doing a 50-50, not for seeing a Slaps hot goal)
-Fix the Classic Rosters, God darnit 2K have respect for the hockey Gods
-Fix the auto player movement when theres a delayed offside
-Fix the player switch system, I wanna switch to my defense taking on the breakaway, not the left wing miles behind him
-Fix the shot aiming system, I can get a slap shot from anywhere, but any wrist shot goes off the post every time (Crosby sucks)
-Fix the pass aiming system (No comment needed see Complaints Section)
-PLEASE GOD LEAVE IN THE CREASE CONTROL,
-And maybe add in Breakaway cam.......be done .
-GOALIE FIGHTS (NHL Hitz had it)
-Better Fighting System (COME ON It still looks like crap)
-Add in Intermission Segments (remember nhl stanley cup for SNES)

A few of those a good ideas, some of those of fixes that must happen, as alot of you know the ps3 version had a crap load of bugs, from the cpu trade bug, goalie scoring glitch to the lose 3 face offs u freeze ur game. 2k8 was a rushed game that hasn't passed the standards of 2k7 in my opinion. Do it right 2k sports, cause EA's NHL sucks a wee tiny bit less each year (still sucks)

Presentation can be greatly improved with just a few simple tweaks.

1.) Custom Arena Goal Horns AND Goal Songs - Why have we not had the goal songs added by now. That is a part of hockey that cannot be overlooked anymore.

2.) Louder crowd reactions - Goals, near misses, penalties, etc. The crowd is a part of the game, let's hear them.

3.) Better team reactions after goals. Don't do cutscenes, keep the same camera and show the players congratulating in "huddle" not one on one.

Gameplay

1.) Shots from the slot need to have a better chance of going in. This game relies too heavily on cross-crease moves and "jam" goals.

2.) Shots from the point and one-timers are too difficult now. In between 2k8 and 2k7 would be perfect.

3.) One-timer passing must come back!!!

4.) 5-hole goals. Watch an NHL game and you will see goals betwen the goalie's legs all the time. It almost never happens on this game.

5.) The net should dent when a hard shot goes in.

online Team play where people on different accounts can play on the same team together.

I play the PS3 version of the game and I must say that I will NOT spend another 60 on a hockey game untill I can have custom soundtracks. I don't understand why they dont have it yet.

Other things that would be nice for 2K9 would be better graphics (NHL 08 is WAY better graphically but 2K's gameplay is better), also fix all the bugs and freezing issues, take out the stupid mini games and concentrate on franchise more cause most everyone only plays Franchise and Online.

Please make more for milestones, Stat records and better celebrations (for i.e hat tricks, trophies, retired Jerseys) Do NOT change the gameplay or the FA signing.

If you support my idea please say so.

Thanks 2K and I hope to see some minor changes for the next season.

The PS3 didn't support custom soundtracks until a few weeks (or days) before the game was released. You can't even almost blame 2K for that. 2K9 probably will support it, but get your facts straight before pointing fingers.

- add skills comp and all star weekend (if it breaks some copyrights or laws, change the
name to 2K Skills weekend, problem solved!)
- and this is something I hate about 2K hockey....
when you get an all-star game....the computer always, ALWAYS chooses players with the highest overall, please STOP THAT! This is where I prefer EA actually (I am ashamed to admit it) the computer should choose players that are high up in the stats (most points top 10 forwards, top 10 scoring d-men, top 10 save% goalies...and so forth)or at least some sort of voting you can do...(don't know how to create something like that for the game, but it's an idea..(Online it would work when everybody votes for the players, but offline a bit more tricky...)
- add more names to be called when creating-a-player (there's plenty, but not clearly enough)
- when creating a team, let us have more choices in the color / style options when making the jerseys
- when creating a team, let us design our own logos (or import a certain sized/file format pic for logo)
- during franchise - make it possible to sell your team/buy a new one/ move it (just like someone mentioned earlier)
- during franchise, let us recreate the jerseys if we get fed up with the current look, and change the logo perhaps...(maybe the team name too, this might be something for selling the team and so on..?)
- change faces of players - they look like they're clones of each other...
- do something about the animations - I don't want floating ghosts on the ice..
- don't change the hitting! please! its perfect the way it is..

I'll write more when I remember the rest....right now, that'll do..

mjf_80:

Skills Competition: Awesome idea. My 360 was stolen so I'm playing through 2K5 right now and I love the skills competition. Though I hope that if it does come back they improve the AI performance. 4/4 in the accuracy competition is all too common.

All-Star Voting: Another great idea. Up-to-date results could be accessible from the awards screen or something and player performance from week to week (500 votes in week 1, 1,000 votes in week 2, 1,500 in week 3) could affect the outcome and make the lineups an actual race. (Sorry if my explanation doesn't make sense, I'm saying that the best player in week 1 would get fewer votes that the best player in the last week of the All-Star voting period since the game's getting closer)

Redesign Jerseys: Another great idea. Teams do it all the time, let us change the colors and have 2K come up with some alternate logos for each team and include shoulder logos as selectable jersey fronts.

Another cool thing I've read: make created players/players without portraits be represented by their in-game faces in menus. It'd be nice if everybody had a face, you know?

I think there are to many Offsides calls especially on faceoffs right on the blue line where you win the faceoff and try and take it but you get shut down because your idiot computer teammate decides to go off into la la land...

Unfortunately this is one thing that the NHL frowns upon. The developers are able to include fighting but at a minimal amount. A few years ago, I believe that fighting was taken out altogether at the request of the NHL, but then was allowed back in at a minimal basis. They just dont want the fighting to be the key aspect of the game, or the game of hockey being portrayed as violent.

Now I agree, fighting is part of hockey and momentum gains. Unfortunately the guys in suits and ties see it another way. The same has happened with football and baseball. No more bench clearing brawls, or even the notion that benches had cleared. And the hitting in football games has been toned down somewhat I believe. These are also reasons you do not see the NHL Hitz or NFL Blitz franchises anymore.

That has nothing to do with why there isn't a Blitz anymore. EA has an exclusive license, so Midway can't make another NFL Blitz and instead made Blitz the League. Wouldn't mind playing a Hitz the League, though... could be a lot of fun.

I do realize the exclusive license and I probably should have thought more about that before mentioning Blitz. I shoul dhave mentioned the NFL Street as I believe the NFL had some things to say about that frnachise as well and its portrayal of players. My bad. But truly, the NFL suits talked with the Madden guys about 2 years ago about toning down things in the game in certain aspects. Again, despite it being a violent sport, they dont want to portray it as a dirty sport. I guess that would be the best way to describe it.

I'll have to see if I can dig up the article from a few years back on this.

I think that fights should occur more often in the next game because I rarely see fights in the NHL 2K8 game I own for PS2. That's one of the things I like about hockey that I don't see on 2K8 too much. So I think fights should happen more often than not on the next release.

mmm you can get more fighting by changing the sliders in options

and btw,
during mid-game,
if you hit lots and hit especially enforcers in the opposing team, you WILL be challenged to a fight on PS2 (I got it for PS2)

you just have to press that damn start:confused: (which is a function I don't like all that much) to start the fight......and that screen appearing that tells you which 2 guys want to scuffle fisticuffs, it's way too small, and most of the time I miss it due to keeping my eye on the game at hand.....

but you can fight more, just it requires keeping an eye out for that tiny screen that comes and goes.....

I think NHL 2k9 should have more integration with the NHL itself, such as actual tournaments like the NFL does with its nation wide madden challenge. At these tournaments actual NHL players could come sign autographs play against the challengers etc etc... Could make alot of money for both the 2k sports franchise and the NHL. The future of gaming is no longer within the confines of your house / xbox live online multiplayer. But actually bringing the gamers to the real athletes and events that make them love the game so much. WHY NOT!?!?? :)

I have 2k7 for the Xbox, and 2k8 for the 360, and I have some complaints, and I know that some have been brought up before.

1) Goalies need to be better, and have to have their own personalities.
(e.g.- Hasek flails around more to stop the puck, or Ty Conklin falls on his *** and lands on the puck.)
2) Brawls/Goalie Fights
There should be an anger meter or something that decides if a fight happens or not, and If enough are fighting, maybe the goalies can fight.
3) No More Glitches!

I'm not sure if it's been suggested yet but a "video replay" system would be great for those "scrummy, 10-guys-in-front-of-the-net-with-5-guys-hacking-away-at-the-puck" type thing. I was gonna write out a long detailed suggestion based on this but I haven't found the time. Maybe I'll do it in a bit.

Edit:

Also another suggestion, Refs need to be more involved in the game. Put out the 4 refs and give them DECENT animations! Like have them signal when a goal goes in or have them signal to center ice for a penalty shot. Etc. The ref is absolutely boring.

-Goalie AI should be improved. Nobody should be able to score the same goal twice in one game.
-Defense AI, should adapt to how your oponent plays, so hes not getting burned everytime
-Fitigue effect, people are using the same star player every time to charge the net full speed everytime he gets the puck. more realisticly that player would be tired after 1 rush per shift.
-momentum, things like fights and powerplays should have more of a positive effect on how well your CPU players perform.

Make online run smoother. Not so many droped games before the face off...Or just after the first goal is scored.

And I swear to god if you guys put out a game that runs at half the framerate online and wait a good few months to patch it (again)... Why I'll.... Complain a bunch. So ya!!

Please make the one timer go in more than once every 30 attempts. You guys went a bit overboard in making one timers hard to score.

Fix the offside. If the player does not have the puck don't cross the big blue line. Simple enough eh?

Kill the feedback system. Too many stupid people out there who can't handle the feedback system responsibly. Just get rid of it.

Also please adjust Brian Mcabes overall rateing. He scores more goals on his own team than he does on the team he is playing against. He blows. I think overall a 70 is fair.

Auto save. For the love of god, please have auto save. I hate having being asked to save my profile after EVERY quick game because it has changed. All settings, tournaments, seasons etc except for rosters should be under one save file on the hard drive/mem card and it should auto save. I think it got a bit better between 2K7 and 2K8 but there is just way too many damn times you are asked to save something.

Shooting. For the most part im a shooter, not a deker. So when I take Iginla in on a breakaway and expect to rip a shot low blocker side when I press the button at the hash marks does he wait and take until the top of the crease to let the shot off? Or im in the offensive zone , turn at the half wall and want to throw (even a weak) backhand at the goalie, but wait it takes so long for him to shoot between when i press the button and when it happens, now im defending an odd man rush into my zone.

AI's Magnetic Sticks. Why is it the computer can fart at me and I lose control of the puck, yet I will have their puck retention and control sliders down to zero and Zack Stortini can hold on to the puck better than Gretzky ever did? I Swear it's near impossible to poke check the computer for the most part. It is NOT that difficult to get a guy off the puck, especially when i have 3 guys literally hooking a guy and another poking at the puck only to be scored on.

Commentary Please put Bob Cole out to pasture. Chris Cuthbert I think would do an excellent job. Most Canadaians (save for Toronto) Cant stand Bob on CBC.

Build a new engine I have enjoyed the 2K series Hockey since 2K4. I think its time to upgrade your engine, it still looks the same as 2k5 and it is not aging very well. EA has you beat on graphics. A lot of jersey colours are completely off(New Jersey, nashville etc) and most of the players look like they have downs. Plus the goalie doesnt even make strides when he is skating out to catch a puck. Looks very akward

I'm just happy 2K made an annoucement that this game is being developed. I'd like to have a customizable offline season where you can choose both the number of teams to participate and the type of teams to participate...i.e. I'd like to make 6-team league using the classic MTL, BOS, NYR, DET, TOR, & CHI teams and get a season going with my friends. Oh, and update the National Teams too.

RoadDoggFL
May 21st, 2008, 10:06 AM
Custom schedules would be nice. I'd like a (I think) 96 game season where you play each team in the opposite conference twice (home & away), each team in your conference 4 times (2 & 2), and each team in your division 6 times (3 & 3). Then a robust stat-tracking system that rates teams' performance against each other with slumps and things like that taken into consideration.

But I'd rather they focus on making a fun game.

-Larger rinks, feels like once youve gotten in to the offensive zone your crammed in there and rushed to just shoot right away.
-Something sick would be if you could choose a celebration after you have scored.
-Highlight reels after each week.
-More realistic moves, Brashear can basically pull off dekes like Ovechkin can.
-A lot more choices of 1on1 moves, pushing the puck around or through defenders, spin moves...
-A lot more realistic hitting, I got Bouchard layin out Pronger in some games.
-More realistic fatigue, I could play my first lines all game in 2k8.
-Definetly more tension between major or minor rivals(Minnesota & the Canucks, Capitals & the Penguins, Rangers & Devils, Kings & Ducks).

How about CrazyCougar tells us the list he submitted to VC? I'm really interested in what they have to work with as our community feedback. Also, I have a new item from my wishlist:

* Classic teams shouldn't be at all affected by roster updates. Why ruin somebody's renaming work when a new update comes out. That's why roster updates should be their own file (almost a started franchise file) and you should be able to choose to download or not download individual teams.

* In regards to franchise, rookies who aren't part of the NHLPA and thus can't be in the game should be on rosters under different names. Maybe keep the same first and last initials, along with accurate height and weight. They wouldn't even necessarily need actual ratings, just give them the prospect star ratings in various categories and let the game fill in the specific ratings from that to let some be busts (nothing too dramatic, and maybe that's not the greatest idea since I'd rather rookies be the same in everybody's franchise).

I believe that the glaring Buffalo Sabres errors should be fixed for NHL2k9.

In 2006, the Sabres changed their uniform color schemes from black and red, to blue and gold.

However, in NHL 2k8, 2kSports left the Sabres gloves, the goalie mask, the helmets, the numbers, and the fonts unchanged.... Still black and red, with the blue and gold uniforms. Not only is this incorrect (and quite obviously so), but it is hideous.

Secondly, the Buffalo Sabres do have an arena name -- HSBC Arena. In NHL2k8, it is merely entitled "Sabres Arena". I don't know if this is for legal reasons or not, but let it be known.

Also, in one of the game screens, "Sabres" is actually misspelled -- reading "Sabers".

Why? On Defense its ok ,i have time for action so I can use any buttons, but on offense not! Sorry ,but Im pro-hockey player and my big problem its quick shot because I have not time for shoots (slapshot) ! So EA has better shooting system (slapshot) for this ,its speeder system than 2k . Why is it unrealistic to shoot with a button, but everybody thinks it's fine to pass with one? How do you determine shot placement (vertically and horizontally) and speed with only a stick? Using 08's right stick shooting, how do I move the sticks to come at the net from the right (with a right-handed shooter), charge to the slot, and roof the puck back to the right as I'm heading left? What if I want to shoot low to the right? The stick doesn't give you the freedom to choose such things (if it does, please explain the movements that will give you both results).

Your problem is with the delay in passing and shooting that 2K8 has, and I agree. It's annoying when you shoot, but your player feels like taking another stride or two first.

The controls are fine, though.

Edit: New wish added to my wishlist (linked in my sig):

"Advanced Sim" settings should let you set waiver notification based on ratings thresholds. I want to be alerted whenever a player with an 85 Chemistry rating/OVR or higher is put on waivers. And likewise, let me set a notification for whenever any of my own players above a certain Chemistry rating/OVR (AND specific players so I don't lose my favorite players to waivers throughout the season) is put on waivers.

-for PS3 the replays seem to be maybe one or two per period, replays should be avail automatically after every shot on net after the whistle blows. the in between periods replay also doesnt show every shot on net only like the 1st 5 or 6 then loops, show all shots on net !!

-several posts have commented on broken sticks which i agree the game should now include.

-it would be fantastic to also have the ref's from time to time have to go to video replays to determine a goal due to player in the goalie crease or whatever (pure NHL simulation reasons).

-the ability to sim a game and be able to pick any seat in the arena and watch the game live. (even box seats).

-hartford whalers ? there not avail any mode.

1. broken sticks- the higher the shot power for a player the more likely to break a stick.
2. SCRUMS- my guy gets drilled after the whistle and no scrum? c'mon u should be able to face wash tie up and pull people off the scrum, and it should be able to get out of controll and have fights break out.
3. retaliations- take a slash from crosby send mccarty on his *****
4. better cyling and down low play.better AI positioning
5. D does a better job of trying to keep it in the zone. and delay of game penalties for shooting it over the glass in D zone.
6. new fighting, its not bad but it could be better + goalie fights
7 intense rivalries that is determined by fights and ammount of penalties.
8. deeper franchise mode, ticket prices beer prices, parking, giveaways ect, but also stadium upgrades and ice quality. and would it kill you to let us watch the zamboni do the ice?
9. hot and cold players. especially for goalies
10. intensity increases for the playoffs, fan wise and on the ice. even ice hockey for original nintendo the crowd intensified twords the end of a close game.
11. accurate faces. holmstrom looks like a little kid. they dont have to be exact like Lidstrom or any other big names but u can at least make it close.
12. toss the octopus for the wings lol
13 cup celibrations increased i fell rushed off the ice. take the time to watch it get passsed around, take the team picture ( that u can keep and save) and locker room party!
14. more intresting facts and stories about players and there history.
15. certain celebs or former players in the crowd.
16. weekly highlight show.
17 less ridiculous CPU trading, you turn it on for a week in franchise mode and the whole league looks diffrent.
. save the best for last HIGH STICKING! w/ 4 min penalty if they bleed! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE INCLUDE HIGH STICKING!

-Enforcers are not only in minors, they must play and fight with other enforcers. I already put my sugestion, enforcer have is important for strategy of hockey game. in this way 2k8 better than 2k7 when enforcers stay forever in the free agent, in 2k 8 they are sign but if dont have OVR above 75 they stay in minors without function. i hope that 2k9 is better than 2k 8. I think that enforcer must be used at the line not based in your ovr.
-Is there simulation in this game?! Have a lot of people that like play simulation games, i too
-AI in the game must be increse. Ofense AI in 2k8 decresce
-Trade in game are very easy, you create a group weak and go to free agent and contract sellune and yashin and other top player. You can, in the start form a all star team. Take top players like heatley, overckin is very easy.
-The feature find trader are without function.
-Brawl in the game take more idea of rivalry between team.

There needs to be a curved progression for skill-related attributes. No player in the NHL should be a 20 at anything, unless the game is actually going to utilize a 0-100 scale. 40-100 seems right to me, it really should be impossible for anything to go lower.

Also, they need to introduce playing style sliders. A 99 Pass Bias and a 99 Shot Bias don't make any sense at all. Make the two at opposite ends of a spectrum and the player is one or the other (or in between). More sliders need to be created for things like that when they affect playing style rather than player skill.

Also, point production should affect things. If a player comes up with a few timely hits that help sway momentum in his team's favor, that should knock him a bit towards the "hit" side of the Hit Bias slider. Same with goals vs assists.

there should be player customization. Where you can also edit your favorite players. give them different types of cuts and scars on their faces. make missing teeth. Give players long hair or hair in a pony-tail or conroes like penguins LARQUE. 2k s should look at the face of the players and see where their facial here begins. If a guy doesn't have alot of facial like Crosby, watch the playoffs, he has hair on his jaw to his chin. And a small moustache. you have other guys who have the full thing like NBA's Tony Parker. If a guy has a full beard or not a lot, there are 9 options. 1) is a bare face 2) is moustache 3) is mousstache and goatee, top and bottom 4) is goatee 5) is moustashce goatee and stubble 6) is five O'clock shadow and goatee 7) Jesus christ beard 8) all out, fluffy, uncombed, playoff beard 9) playoff beard meets Kimbo Slice.

So if you want crosby to have a thick beard, he could only have it where facial hair is.

The goalies mask looks small. I was watching the stanley cup and noticed how Fluery mask and colorodo' great ROY mask was huge. In the game the mask fits their face too much. Make them larger. Especially (detroit's) Osgood. Make the mask better.

when players are in another team's zone, have them pass the puck around like they do in real life, instead being worry that you might be laid on your back. More realistic. At least when the other team disrupts the play, let them bump the offensive players not lay him out every time

mega0661
June 12th, 2008, 08:39 AM
Add blood in the game like small cuts, or, slashes after a fight or when a player get hit. Have their helmets fall off their heads sometimes after a collision or big hit. Have a goalies mask come off If a hard slap-shot is deflected off his mask. More player postures and graphics. Various hitting animations. Like a player flying in the air and hitting the glass after a good hit, being tripped up and sliding into the boards, two players putting a smashing check on oen player, player after being hit, running into the side of the glass next the benches, a hit to the face, showing a player on floor being attendant to by a trainer with a slash on his face or something. Have a mode where you can have your player workout in the gym and in the rink. When I say rink I don't mean the generic practice mode but a player training hard with his coach doing slapshots or a goalie kicking away shots by his teammates.

Have famous chants. Curtain calls like the Rangers and other teams at the end of the game. Add more celebrations like Ove(Capitals) " leap into the glasses". Edit your own fans clothing. Have fans wear matching blue, red, green t-shirts.

We should be able to edit the crowd size.

Add more coaches. A gear man or something. SHow people moving behind the glass. Like that little section at the Garden underneath the budwiser sign. A lot of people are seen there watching the game. You can even see them in the playoffs. Even at the infamous walkway to the Garden ice. Add more in******. Like moving fans, nothing to drastic or more guys on the bench instead of just players and one coach. Every other sports has things added to make the sidelines look better. Do the same. Add mouth guards. Have the players show emotion, move their face around. Have their hair move around. Have red wing fans throw octapuses on the rink and show crew members picking them up. Let game-players control players during skate arounds.

Where are the zamboodies?

Too many break-aways.

Once again improve the arenas like in Philly. Make them more friendlier. Have the fans closer together in certain arenas like the garden and others. They look like they're sitting on a concrete steps at central park. Bring the seats closer.

A player playing D with no stick and in order for a game-player to get a new stick they must go to the bench, have the AI of the guys on the bench give them a new one and skate back to the action. That would be detrimental during a powerplay after the D interrupts a scoring opportunity and sends the puck back down the other end or a breakway when they have to get a stick before a guy like datysk rushes to the other net with the puck. in the playoffs having the teams shake hands after the final. Show them holding one of their gloves in their hand and putting it on or snapping the strap on their helmets, pushing down the helmets on their heads during a game, cut scenes.

The backup goalie wears a cap when he is on the bench, sweet eye candy.

Some kind of momentum or frustration meter kinda like what ncaa football has, if a team reaches frustration then the low composure players start commiting... penalties.

A thing I hate is I got to switch the current line on ice to get an enforcer on the ice, there should be a quick button for me to get my enforcer on the ice,say I hit L1+R2 and then I highlight over a player on the ice that I wanna replace for the enforcer.

After a goal, you can press some face buttons(ovechkins celebrations are effin sick)to do some kind of celebration kinda like nfl 2k5, your opponent shouldn't be allowed to skip it only yourself can skip it.

I just edited my last post.

Impossible. But now that you talk about lag, if your plug is unplugged from your system its an automatic drop, If someone connection starts faultering and slowing game down screw network conditions or arbitration, give the sob a loss, there are so many losers that start to download movie files intentionally, its horrible.

The changes I've made to my wishlist since May 14th (link (http://gaming.wikia.com/index.php?title=User%3ARoadDoggFL%2FNHL_2K_Series_ Wishlist&diff=109094&oldid=106513)).

I might paste some but there's some stuff I really like that would be nice if it was kept in mind for 2K10.

Also, let's see the list the devs were presented with, already. Not to say that we're not grateful for your efforts or anything, Cougar... We just want to know what they're working with from us.

The only real wish for 2K9 that I have is for some actual work to be done for the PS2 version, and not just a rehash of last year's title with minimal additions/changes.

I'd just like the developers to not treat it as an afterthought just because it's not next-gen. :(

Well with the Wii version coming out, that might mean they'll update the PS2 version.

I don't post much but I have some simple requests for 2k9.

1. Please allow a savable option to disable the music. I am sorry but I can't stand the music in the game. It gets annoying to have to go and disable all the songs every time I boot the game up.

2. Keep the 2k7 controls. I am sorry but I hate using the sticks. Give me classic controls any day of the week.

Other then that. I'll probably be happy with the game.

You can probably save your settings with the music volume all the way down or even save a soundtrack with no songs on it...

Ok here is my wish list:

Fighting should be improved, like 3 fights and you're out also the option to not drop the gloves and draw the penalty. Add blood and injury from fights i mean it might make the age rating higher but GTA is 18 and its the tops seller.

Penalties, if it wants to be realistic has to have the right penalties like Majors, Game , Match, Gross and bans!

and probably worst of all its been mentioned, why oh why do the computers only play 2 lines maybe the third line will play a bit, i wanna see all the lines used for different situations like after a big hit the computer chuck out the 4th line with someone like Downey out there instead of them never playing 1 game a season when they do get used alot in the real nhl!

No blood in games might be because of the NHL.

If you want lots of blood, you might have to wait for Hitz: The League, or something (which would be amazing).

mega0661
June 18th, 2008, 03:36 PM
Im not asking for UFC blood, I'm talking about if a player gets hit there's a cut scene where a trainer is tending to him. or after a fight you see a bump, black eye, something. Have the helmets come off during fights, better fight action. Better grappling mechanics to make fights better.

RoadDoggFL
June 18th, 2008, 04:11 PM
The NHL might not allow for things like that. That's what I'm saying, we don't know what rules are in place for the game to get the NHL's and the NHLPA's approval.

I know that old games had blood, but between the league trying to change its image and advances in graphics making such scenes more convincing and... well, graphic, things may have changed.

this is something id love.

its been such a pain getting guys to join the league. sometimes the invites dont go through. and the search doesnt always pull up the league.

id love a "join league" button on the league 2k homepage. it would make it so much easier

How good is NHL 2K9 going to be? What will be a rank from 1-10? I hope they listen to people who posted wishes. They are the ones who are right. I hope they have: Delay of Game Penalties (flipping puck out of play in D-zone), broken sticks, referees based on real ones in the NHL, a better skating engine, less hitting from behind, less hitting in the middle of slap shots, better controls, better goalies, the puck NOT follow the player as he is sliding on a slap shot, and no gliding when the players are doing the poke check. (There are a lot of things I could add to this list)

Still not posted. Cougar seems to have disappeared, though another mod mentioned that he's talked to somebody who's seen the game and was excited about it. I'd imagine it was him, but he used his first name.

Sometimes Cougar writes as though he is an insider. a developer with some juice or at least close to somebody of that status. And then at other times he acts as though he is just a messenger. He is quick to suggest that has access to the decision-makers and doesn't hesitate to hint that he is trying to spread the good news. The bad news, however, is another story. He doesn't seem to want any part of negative feedback or discussions about what went wrong. And then, at other times, as you have suggested, he just disappears. There appears to be a lot of disappearing going on at 2K these days.

I have a lot of things I'd like to see in the new game, and a lot of them have probably been said already but, here they are:
1. Customizable goal celebrations, either a set celebration for each player or a different one for each button (ie: X-Ovechkin wall slam R1- Go down on 1 knee and pump fists etc)
2. Include vintage teams in team creations, I wanna make an all-time team with Gretzky, Howe, Lemieux, Bossy and all the other greats
3. Actual goal songs for each team
4. More realistic defense, I hate that stinking magnetic puck, it repels your sticks and attracts those of the coms. Every time I get checked I get slammed down to the ice and lose the puck but I can have 3 men on the same guy (rated like 68 overall) and he does this crazy move (that Gretzky would have been envious of) and scores! WHAT IS WITH THAT!?!
5. Why can't I take players off other teams waivers in franchise mode? This is a horrible defect and must be fixed!
6. Bring back the All-Star Skills competition, this should never have been taken out!!!
7. Highlight reels at the end of every game, week, and season
8. Elaborate Stanley Cup Victory Ceremonies that get bigger and better based on seasonal/playoff preformance and how many cups have been won before (ie first cup in several decades will have a more intense party). The ability to control players as they celebrate should also be included.
9. Customizable leagues with set numbers of teams (6, 10, 30 etc) and allow for expansion teams to be added.
10. Relocating/ expanding arenas in franchise mode
11. Expansion mode where you start out as a small expansion team with a small arena (and I mean like Nassau Colisseum small) as your team improves you can build it up and become an NHL powerhouse.
12. Have the announcers mention when a player reaches a milestone or sets a record and have the player's celebration reflect this, maybe a reaction from the crowd (ie balloons with the number '500' on them fall when a player reaches 500 goals or '1,000' for 1000 points.
12b. In francise mode I had a player on my team (the Islanders) score 187 goals and 98Assists for 285 points on the season, however the season record for points did not change, if this is a glitch please fix it.
13. If they're not going to add any new vintage teams then at least let us carry over our rosters from the old games, it is SOOOOOOO ANNOYING to earn every team and uniform and fix the names and have to redo them every year. Have a carry over feature so that
2k8 rosters can be used in 2k9 or something to that effect so that i dont have to edit all the old teams like i do every year.
14. Try to add referees challenging goals every couple of games
15. Allow for more in-depth create-a-character
16. More depth for create-a-team
17. GRAPHICS need to be improved, this is the one field where you're trailing EA, please improve them and your game will be perfect
18. Fix the goalies, the same moves beat the goalies every time and the other moves never work
19. If you're going to include the Superstar moves MAKE THEM POSSIBLE I think I can get them to work once out of every hundred times I try (no exageration)
20. One Timers, they're way too hard now make them a little easier so that it doesn't take me 25 trys to get one to work

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!!!! put all of this on the PS2, PS2's are six times as common as 360's and PS3's put together. If you don't put all of these features on the PS2 you'll lose so much possible revenue from fans.
If all of these features are included then NHL 2k8 would be the GREATEST GAME EVER!!!!

One of the things I have been dying to see on your games is online co-op play! I have several brothers who live out of state. Whenever we get together, we try to play a 2K sports game (whichever one is in season) together playing on the same team. We can only do that when we all get together in person, though. I'd love to be able to do that online, but your online play only allows you to play against each other and we do not like that.

If four of us get online (from separate systems), I'd love to jump on the 2K Sports servers and be able to decide which team we want to play on... whether that is 2-on-2, 3-on-1, or four of us taking on the computer.

Are there any plans for this? Why limit online play to where you can only play against one another?

No, he's about right. But he makes the mistake of thinking that all current PS2 owners buy new PS2 games at the same rate that all 360 and PS3 owners buy new 360 and PS3 games.

I count as a PS2 owner, but I haven't bought a PS2 game in... I don't even know. And I've only bought a handful of PS2 games new in the few years I've owned it. Yes, there are over 100 million PS2s out there. But the portion of PS2s out there that are used for new sports games is tiny.

in my opinion nhl 2k9 should still improve yourself example:

1)should be improved the big hits.. i think are too many, you should adjust
2) the puck should have ei when unforeseable by the goaltenders
3) if it is possible, insert more animated the players during the game

NYIJK10
July 18th, 2008, 07:44 AM
While I do acknowledge that most PS2 owners do not buy the new games you cannot deny that it is still a sizable group of gamers who do.

RoadDoggFL
July 18th, 2008, 11:59 AM
Is it? And regardless, would 2K regain the cost of a better development cycle through increased sales? Or are most PS2 gamers already set on whether or not they'll buy the game anyway and difference in quality only yields marginal sales differences?

No way to know for sure, but I agree with me.

Their net profit would probably increase (if marginally) by making the improvements to the PS2 version as many EA supporters could be won over. I for one buy both games but many people don't have a spare $100 to purchase both games and have to settle for just one. If 2k9 could make such improvements they could be able to draw on some of EA's supporters to increase their own revenue but that's besides the point let's get back to the topic on hand: improvements for the game.

i think most hockey fans are willing to learn the control scheme if they like the game enough. i know several people that cursed 2k8 for two months after getting the game, till it clicked in their head. now they love the game. i think the only people that buy hockey games are hockey fans. random people just dont go to the store and purchase a hockey games

i just feel like from their own publicity announcements they are taking this in the wrong direction. but lets not kid ourselfs. its probably a lot easier to program zamboni races then to do the kinds of things we want

macpuck
July 19th, 2008, 08:39 AM
Every time you add a silly or unnesseary element to a game you run risk of creating glitches in the real gameplay aspect of it. Zamboni races are nonsense. Polish the gameplay!!!!!

NBA 2K9 Feature List
July 18, 2008 by pastapadre

Though E3 came and went with little news on NBA 2K9’s features, one day after the event ends comes a full feature list for the game that will probably exceed most people’s expectations. It appears to have matched NBA Live 09 with it’s own versions of Online Team Play, uploadable replays, and Player DNA.

Advanced Shot Stick: The revolutionary Shot Stick control system takes it one step further, allowing you to change your shots in mid-air.
Adaptive A.I.: Adaptive A.I. reads, reacts, and adjusts in real time to your strategies. Your teammates initiate cuts, picks, and post-ups based on how you handle the ball, while your opponent modifies strategy to fit game pace.
The Association 2.0: With NBA.com, you’ll have access to all the latest rumors, trades, scores, news stories and more, plus new features like Player Personalities, Ambitions, and Player Roles, a plethora of customizable options, and new mini-game drills making this the deepest and most robust franchise mode on the market.
NBA 2K online features: 2K Sports’ industry leading online service gets all-new features including 5-on-5 Multiplayer mode with Total Team Control and a new ranking system (from Bench Warmer to Rookie to Pro to Superstar), that shows you how to match up against your opponents.
2K share: Create, upload, and share rosters, sliders, and even players created with the all-new Player DNA feature. The Reelmaker has been completely revamped, so you can now direct your own digital video highlight reels, and post them on 2KSports.com or your personal Web page, for all the world to watch and admire.
2K in HD: Drastically improved facial and skin textures, better uniforms, improved eye movement, and more realistic crowd reactions bring the game alive like never before.
All-new broadcast team: Analyst Clark Kellogg and sideline reporter Cheryl Miller join color commentator Kevin Harlan to create one of the most knowledgeable broadcast teams in the game.
Better replays and cutscenes: End each quarter with enhanced, multiple angle replay highlights, and be rewarded with all-new, true-to-life celebration sequences after you capture the NBA championship.

i wish we could of got some of the love 2k9 nba got. 2k hd gaming, more accurate control schemes (not pick up and play) ... bahh. who wants that. GIVE ME MY ZAMBONI RACE!!!! :rotfl:

I wish I enjoyed basketball half as much as I enjoy hockey because the NBA game sounds great. I, too, worry about 2k"s apparent emphasis on "EASY" controls and zamboni races! Maybe the promotion department is simply inept. It would be nice if 2k could make hockey strategy a little more meaningfull. Unfortunately, I've found that changing forechecking patterns has precious little impact on gameplay, etc., etc ....

Took me a while to like 2K9 but now I love it. I dont play online but me and a friend have been playing season/franchise mode since 1996. To date, I like 2K7 best as far as the little things are concerned. ie stats, last 10 game individual performance, keep a list of previous award winners creating a player and so on. Game play on 2K9 is perfect.....almost. I liked being able to create a team and enter it into franchise mode but 2K9 dont offer it. 2K9 left out a lot of those little things but added some nice stuff. I played a full season and so far only froze 2 or 3 times so that improved a lot. I hated the intimidating aspect of 2K7. Playing against my friend when he had loads of them was kinda ****ty...lol

Anyways, if 2K10 had the personality of 2K7 and drafting/signing player mode like 2K9, it would be great.

I didnt play 2K8 due to freezing too much so we played 2K7 for 2 years and managed to get into 7th season then bought new one.
