So Im watching the Jag Pat game on saturday in the play offs and I was outraged! As the Jags worked their way down field they had a fourth down and went for it "THATS NOT SIM!!!" How dare they break the rules of sim! Whats even worse is that after the Jags where successful they went on to score a touch down and then the Pats did the same thing with 4 yards, 4 yards! There is no way in sim you should go for it on fourth and four. Even though they where successful, I was outraged that the NFL would allow this kind of none SIM playing to acure in professional football. I think the NFL should fine both of these teams for not following the rules of SIM, I even think they should go as far as giving them bad Feedback. This is your chance NFL, stop this none SIM gameplay in your pro football league before others are incouraged to do the same, this will ruin the sport, make the game no fun and promote cheating if it is ignored!

I'd like to hear the self-appointed Sim Police talk about this. and posers like run and shoot.

I'm not the sim police, but I know why they say this. One word. TIME.
A lot of that has to deal with them getting a chance to get the ball.
Personally I don't care and you won't get negative feedback win or lose with me.
The game is changing and either the players need to learn to accept it OR play longer games.
One valid rule that is in place is the substitution rule because it breaks an NFL rule so to speak which is illegal substitution. The purpose of this rule in the NFL is for the opposition to have a chance to know who/what you are substituting in on plays.
2k8 uses the formation to determine this.
Bad idea. It should use what players are in on that particular play to determine your package so if it says Spread then it should mean 3 WR, 2 RB. No deception here.
If someone subbed in a wr for a rb then it will display that informaion kings or queens or whatever it is.
This is fair.
I haven't played in a league, but if people would use the package system, which needs to be fixed, then there would be no problem.
Other than that go for it and enjoy the game.
It does get a little boring if your opponent never punts though.
Oh... and quits in the 1st quarter after multiple failures and get down 14+ points to 0.

I love the way anytime anyone goes for it on 4th down in any NFL game the cheesers all post like its some kind of justification for the way they play.
Going for it at the opposing teams end is just fine by anybody, going for it at your end of the field means your a dumb cheeeser.
So get it straight , next time someone goes for it in the NFL before you post here make sure that NFL team is going for it in the first quarter and thier end of the field then you might be on to something.

1. Youre not funny or clever ( You are like the 70th guy to do this)
2. Jaguars KNOW they wont stop the pats offense it was a smart move. In All pro if the guy has an offense that scores every time I would usually go for it.
3. The pats are *******s.

Im sorry to all the non simers who get ****ed when someone goes for fourth to switch things up because they feel like it and your not ready. Im sorry to those who get burned on it and complain, then abandon the game and give bad feedback, now whos the ***** the pats or you. Im sorry you guys have to be whining idiots and you get ****ed because we bring it up to prove there is nothing wrong with doing it, because for some reason you think the NFL never does it. If you've grown up and excepted that there is nothing wrong with it (I occassionally do once every couple games) than this post is not ment for you. If you do complain, your one of the childish unsportsman like players that cant stand getting beat unless someone plays the way YOU feel is right. And of course you wont find this funny.

Nope, Patriots were at Jags 40 yardline. Click here for the NFL.com play-by-play (http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/playbyplay?game_id=29521&displayPage=tab_play_by_play&season=2007&week=POST19&override=true).
Both 4th down attempts where on the opponents side of the field.. it's perfectly sim to go for it there.. even if it's the 49 yardline. Only "Sim Nazi's" like RunNShoot have a problem with this. I don't.. and I'm all sim.
So... again, what's your point? You've proved nothing. People who go for it 4th & 5 on their own 35 are still non-sim in my book, even if you think the jags 40 is the patriots side of the field.
PS. If you're not talking to people like me and people who get upset when you go for it on 4th on their side early in a game.. then i apologize for my aggressiveness. You should be allowed to go for it on 4th really any time you want.. if you're dumb enough to go 4th on your side of the field.. then I'll give you a free education of why even Belichick doesn't go for it on his own side.

Pats were not on their side, they were on the Jags 40. When the Jags went for it it was 4th and 1 on the Pats 32. So yea, both times it was on the opponents side of the field, both times it was 4th and not too long.

What's even more un-sim is that the Pats kept running a 4 or 5 WR formation and did more or less 5 plays over and over. Just because those plays work and the defense sucks *****, it was very un-sim of the Pats to do it.
I had one moron give me a neg feedback because "you did not run 2 RB formations and did not have a legend RB"....

going for it on 4th down in this game is much more different then going for it on madden.
In madden 07 it was guaranteeed 90% of the time to get a first down, especially 3 yards with a run up the middle since the game never helped in the fact taht most likely they'll run up the middle so the linebackers can read it, but in APF you got people stuffing the holes quick as hell and the DB AI is much smarter, i dont have no problem with anyone going for it on 4th down at anytime or anywhere on the field, imo they're stupid depending on the situation.

this season almost everytime the eagles had the ball and it was 4th and 1 on there own 30-40 yard line they would qb sneak it up the middle and get it. they did this atleast 5 or 6 times are they gona get fined for playing unsim?

Are you joking?
Eagles FGs + Punts this season = 105
Total 4th down attempts = 15
You said they went for it on their own side 5 or 6 times.
5% that is for their own side of the field, and 15% overall 4th down attempts.
Every once in a while a situation comes up where its perfectly sim to go for it on 4th & short, no matter where it is on the field.
Unsim players usually have a 4th down attempt percentage much higher than 15% like the eagles had this season.

i honestly dont listen to them perfect sim rules.... i play how i choose. the reason most teams punt it on 4th and 1 is because they dont want there opponent to have the ball with such great feild position its not because they have good sportsmanship. same thing goes with 4th and 5 and 4th and 10 and all of them. the nfl cant give them bad feedback because they go for it on 4th down all the time. if the nfl says something the team will tell the nfl to kiss there azz

I agree with you no doubt. But I'm just trying to clear it up.. eagles went for it 6 times tops maybe.. and that would be 5% of their 4th down's during the season.
What I'm saying is:
If you go for it on 4th down on your own side 5% of the time, thats COMPLETELY PERFECT SIM!!
But if you do it 50-75% of the time and try to rationalize that as the eagles did it "a few times during a 16 game season" then that's not even close to what Andy Reid did.

January 15th, 2008, 06:47 PM
andy reid did it almost everytime on 4th and 1 unless obviously if he was winning. sometimes andy reid kinda doesnt play perfect. alot of times instead of tieing the game with an extra point when theres about 10-20 seconds left in the game he will go for 2 so the other team as no chance of even winning in overtime and i do that in the game alot to because i dont feel like playing 5 quarters of a football game. and for some reason when he is like on the other teams 40 yard line and its maybe 4th and 4 or something he will punt it. sometimes his play calling doesnt make sence at all but we have been top 10 in offence almost every season he was our coach so obviously hes doing something right.

wow the word SIM means Simulation of the NFL and Nfl teams do what they want. If you watched the Colts Chargers game Payton hurried up and hiked the ball so the D could get called with the offsides

What are you talking about, Andy Ried going for the 2 point converstion all the time instead of a tie and OT. When did all this happen? Are you sure you weren't watching yourself play Madden and thought you were Andy Ried.:rotfl:

the eagles havent been in an overtime game when they where in this situation in a few years so you probably dont remember it. the last time they had to go to overtime im pretty sure the other team tied up the game. andy reid cant go 3 hours without any food can you imagine hm having ti play another quarter? as soon as that game is over he is on his way to burger king
