Who is the best running back in the game

I'm thinking either walter payton or gale sayers because walter can run in between and around the o-line but sayers is a beast around the line

In my opinion:

1.) Earl Campbell - totally nasty in short yardage plus he'll shoulder charge all the way to a TD
2.) OJ Simpson - similar to walter & gale but seems to break a lot more takes for some reason.. I get a lot of short yardage with him and multiple breakaway TDs
3.) Gale Sayers

if you want a complete back, one who blocks, can pound the ball, run inside AND outside, and has hands to run screens and flats you gotta go with either Emmitt or Barry. Personally, I have had E.Smith since day one and never looked at another back. i love playing those who have either OJ or Campbell simply because all they want to do is run. and once you stop their run, they go into their panic offense, throwing the ball right into my coverage schemes. :D

I think Earl is the best. He's just a beast, its stupid how many tackles he can break.

I like Marcus Allen. He suits my style. He can run for power, he can run for finesse. He can, stiff arm, shoulder charge, spin, catch the ball, has decent speed and most of all he's clutch.

OJ is the only back that i have seen go for a deep pass and actually catch it .

Plus, you dont een have to press another button like shoulder charge, or spin to avoid tackles all you have to press is A,A,A,A,A,A,A,A and he runs right throught the tackle most of the time. Plus he is great at stopping the blitz when most OL (star / generic) would miss it.

Had OJ since day one and never even thought about trying another running back........

and for the guy at the top who said something about stopping OJ and forcing a pass, all you have to do if you want to clear LB's out and send your TE or WR across the middle for a wide open pass is send OJ up the middle deep if they bite you got your WR or TE with space for a first, if not OJ is wide open splitting the S's and will catch the ball EVERYTIME.

Forget about the Sweeps, and screens those are check down plays......OJ can run a post, flat, streek, out, you name he'll catch it

every generic defensive back in this game can tackle him. hes slower then your average snail. dont forget no one in this game uses him hes got to be the biggest sleeper in the game.

The best back in the game without a doubt is Thurman Thomas. He is always overlooked...But he can run between the tackles, outside the tackles, great quickness and cutbak ability, can be a scat-back at times, also has grace ,finesse, and is a power runner. Great on pass blocking, and has hands like a receiver. When I pick up Thurman Thomas I am getting two Gold positions for the price of one. He is a half back and can be a Gold receiver...he is so overlooked

I played people who were so afraid of gale sayers they wouldn't even kick the ball to him and they would manually put their outside linbackers more outside so they could stop the outside run and I think earl campbell is overated because everytime I play him I shut him down because I use a speed defense, I know one on one campbell would win but if you tackle him with two people he will go down everytime

Pre Patch: Earl without a doubt.

Post Patch: I gotta go with Emmitt Smith once you get his workhourse "on". He becomes an absolute monster + with durabilty bonus, he can go for days.

ya gotta go with emmitt in the long run... eveyr once inawhile your gold hb will get hurt:( but not emmitt... i still remember a while ago someone said they did a late hit on an opponents earl campbell and he got hurt and it took him out of the game:) with my big hit team i try to get as many late hits as possible without getting the penatly flag:D
