I gave up playing basketball games on video game consoles a few years ago since I never felt I really had control of the game and that everything was pretty much luck... However, I decided to buy this game on my PS3 since I heard it was good and 2k9 won't be made! Thank you for putting in the 2k share mode!!!
I have tried the drills and did pretty well, although sometimes I felt I did what the instructions said to do and I still didn't get the credit for it...
I am struggling with both offense and defense... I am trying to better understand the use of the "triangle" and "circle" while dribbling etc... Do most people use the right stick over the square to shoot??
On defense, it's difficult to stick to the player with the ball... I sue the hand up button and also jump to block etc...
Any tips would be helpful.. I've only played the game a few times and admit I am not using the best teams... GWU Colonials and the USF Dons... This could be the problem??? However, when playing their first game, the scrimmage, I still didn't play well...

for the drills there are some that I work on and some I don't even touch cause its pretty much impossible for me to do.
Post offense pretty much never do since I can't get more than 200 points. Depending on how bad the shooter is I sometimes don't do mid to outside shooting also.
However the drills that I dominate and never fail are close shooting, passing, ball handling, rebounding, block shots (might not be the correct name for it), and attack the basket. Those are the drills I pretty much stick too and pretty much do.
Really don't need to worry about outside shooting or defend the ball handler since by the time I want to use it the guys are usually good to pass it and if I do I don't get as much points as I would other drills.
As for the dribbling I just like to use the simple cross over, hestitation and sometimes the reverse dribble. I am more of a two-man game or even running plays so I really don't attack the basket on one-on-one. Thats just my style of play though.
As for the right stick the only time I use this is mostly in the paint. Really don't like to use it for mid range shots and behind the arc. Again this is just something I don't like to use. Maybe that is cause I am really a shooter in real life and the simpliest thing to do is one motion to shoot the ball and well X (for the 360) is the easiest thing to do. For dunking and low post moves I do tend to use that a lot especially after I get an offensive rebound.
For defense I tend to play off the ball handler a little bit more. I only use lock-on-defense from about half court to the arc. Unless they have a fast break or something and the easiest way to stop them is slowing them down by using the lock-on-D feature. Most don't do that, but the computer won't really pull up for the shot even if you give them a little space. If you give to much they will, or if you overcommitt to one side they will drive to the basket on the other side.
As for offense I would say start to use plays to learn how to move the ball for the open shot. I tend to like to start on the inside game first so I will run a two-man game to get that. Once that starts to work, or hopefully, they will start to crash down on your big men and then the outside game opens up. Also if it isn't working just rotating the ball from one side to the other and usually you can find an open man.
For defense I just run man-to-man and usually tend to guard the ball handler. In my legacy I have a beast at small forward so I usually just tend to use him on defense and will use help defense with him so I tend to play a little more off of my guy.
Hopefully that helps out and good luck. With the patch its a very good game to play. I play on MOP and right now with Miami (OH) in my legacy i am like 17-3 in year 6 with a team rating of 85 overall. Overall record is like 120-50 or something like that, but in the last two years so far I only lost like 10 games.
