I know a few of you followed my SUU legacy last year, with John Gentry taking a 4 win team and turning them into a 32-5 National Chamionship team.

Well, I've brought Coach Gentry back, but this time he's heading down to Jacksonville and the North Florida Ospreys.

I've already played the first season and went 17-15 and lost to Kansas in the first round, so I'll pick it up in year 2. The first update coming in the second post.

Gentry Looks to Build in Upcoming Season

The UNF men's basketball team surprised everyone with 17 wins last year and a first round visit to the NCAA tournament. Despite being defeated by Kansas in the first round, last season left the UNF faithful (all four of them) pleasently surprised.

However, arguably the teams lifeline, PG Chris Timberlake graduated and the team will look to build without the Double-Double Machine. C Jay Grimball also graduated, leaving the team without his 7 rebbies a game.

Although, there is some hope. Gentry landed PG Saul Wells out of Tallahassee, ranked by Rivals.com as the #90 best PG in the nation. He can shoot from deep, drive to the basket, pass, and doesn't miss many free throws, which is something that the team stuggled with last year.

Gentry will hold a press conference on Tuesday to answer any questions that anyone has. The conference will be open to the public, so fans-feel free to come by.

Gentry Press Conference a Flop

Well, no press showed up to the conference today, but we did garner some important information. Coach Gentry still hasn't released the schedule, but we did garner a couple of interesting facts. For one, the Memphis Tigers are scheduled twice. Also, Memphis will be visiting the Ospreys this year. The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are also visiting the Sunshine State, along with the K-State Wildcats.

All four of those games are big for UNF, because it gives them a chance to break into the top ten Mid-Major polls. And if they win all of those games, they may have a slim chance at breaking into the Top 25. A very slim chance.

The Ospreys lost all three of their major conference games last year, but not by much. The lost in Gainesville by three, and to Miami FL by three on a Rios buzzer beater.

Notre Dame blew them out, however.

More coming on the official lineup later.

I may do that. Haha.
I think that online legacies would've been great.
Then, all these great legacies could come together and we could all compete against eachother.

Coach Akpan and Coach Dezaron are following as well. Looking forward to seeing what the Osprey can do. Looking forward to future dates with the Gators and Noles.

First Practice

Well today I got a chance to go to the UNF men's basketball team's first practice, before the Late Night Swoops, or midnight madness game.

All in all, it looked pretty good. The team, which has a lot of freshman and sophomores, obivously needs to work on some chemistry issues. Saul Wells looked great passing and shooting, at one point knocking down eight straight threes, inlcuding three from at least 30 feet.

I asked Coach Gentry about this display of shooting and he said this:

"Well, we always knew the kid had range, so it shouldn't be a surprise."

Well put, coach.

Chris Thiero, the team's new Center, played well, knocking down almost everything from inside.

Saint Louis Preview

Well, we now know that the first game of the season will be against the St. Louis Billikens in Missouri.

The Billikens have a big advantage, espescially on the perimeter. I honestly think that St. Louis will shoot the lights out from deep and put UNF away early. If the Ospreys can force them to go down low, they can win this game. The play in the paint isn't just not good for St. Louis. It's plain ole' bad. And UNF appears to have a good, steady prescence down there with Thiero. That's where UNF can win this game-under the basket, and with kick-outs to Hammonds and Wells for open threes.
