View Full Version : What Do We Want From 2Ksports?

To be honest what type of game do we want from 2ksports? Do we really know or are we just searching for a football game that will fasinate our imagination. Some of us want a football game that is similar to the NFL while customizing everything so we can still play with our favorite team. Some want a game with all Legends and no generic players. There are others who just want a game with recognizeable names like retired players.
What it all boils down to me is players do want something of this game to play or have some similarity to the NFL. I grew up watching My team play on TV and truthful I prefer to play a game that has some similarity to my team and a game that is fun and has great inovation than play a game with my team that is not fun. It also appears to me we all want a game that has the NFL similarities but something different at the same time. We want something that can go beyond the NFL as far as gameplay is concerned but keeping it realistic.
I do want a football that shows the reaction from the fans, shows the sideline activities like cheerleaders and the mascot. I want the commentators to talk about the history of the players and let the game track the milestones and accomplishment of a franchised season. I want to see graphics like never before and animation that happens in real life but you never see it on a videogame. We want a complete game. We are tired of seeing one football game has this and the other football game has that. We are now in the age of technology where consoles is able to put all the graphics, memory, and extra without taking away from the gameplay and overall experience.
That is what made ESPN NFL 2k5 standout because it gave you an almost complete experience. It just did not give you the NFL but it gave you more. It gave you the crib, First person football, EsPn 25th anniversary where you can change history or redo it. So if you did not want to play a 5 minute game you can always try a new feature. Thats what you call Inovation and thats what we all expect from 2ksports. They raised the Bar and now we are spoiled. But thats what we as gamers have now come to expect and thats what we all want.
So give me a game that offers more in terms of gameplay. We like to see the weather affecting gameplay. We want to see a receiver fall down on his own and still get up and try to make a catch. We want to see the clothes get muddy and the breath from the players when it is below freezing. we want to see the QB mishandle the handoff to the RB. We want to see the long snapper botch the snap. show a referee getting knocked down and needs medical attention. The little things like that is very important. So we now ask ourselves if there is an All Pro 2k9...What do I want in this game?

personally great gameplay, forget the legends lets have a generic experience kind of make believe and be able to pick our own players to take based on the type of team we want. ie. big NT for a 3-4 etc.

I agree. Just update the turf, add more lines for Dan and Peter and the presentation that 2k5 has.

Full Customization. No legends or generics. Limit Height to 6'6" to prevent towering players. Keep abilities, but add ratings. Allow logo editing, and not just the colors. Allow images on your console's HDD to be used as logos. FULL CUSTOMIZATION!
One more thing. Why is it that everyone was screaming about full customization before this game came out and now most people whine like little girls about playing someone with created players?

Everything bolded is already in 2k8.... you obviously have never actually played it before...

That's it.
Probably won't be for a while... 2K was probably waiting to see if NFL exclusive EA deal was extended. And since it is... right now as we speak, they are probably meeting and working a strategy on how to approach their 2K9,2K10,2K11,etc.

Yeap keep the Legends.
I'd say keep them, but also add in a completely fictional database where you could play a franchise with all fictional players.

A report came out that 2K paid OJ Simpson $50,000 for 2K8.
If 2K owes each legends $50,000 per game, then for money reasons, I'd accept no legends as long as full customization is allowed.

im sure certain guys got paid more than others..... if it's money issues and the production of this game is in question, than i agree w/ u.
even at 20,000 per player, ur looking at over 5 million bucks. Not adding in what else it costs to get this game made.... i like having the legends but........"steep"

but was it a multi year contract, which now i doubt it because then they would've said 50,000 multi year contract so i dunno, this is stupid if they have no plans just ****ing tell us now.

Tuboware67 apparently you miss the point of the entire post. I never said some of these things were not in all pro football 2k8. I was just stating what I want to see in All Pro 2k9. yes 2k8 has the weather affecting gameplay, and receiver slipping down but does it shows the fans, cheerleaders, and other things like ESPN 2k5? I was saying we are tired of seeing one football game has this and another football game has that. We are at an age where consoles are able to implement all these things in a game without taking away from gameplay and the overall experience. Dont you want a game that has everything. In the past games had to limit what they could put in due to Ram, graphics, etc... But now consoles are more powerful and advance and there is no reason why a football cannot include all of this without taking away from the gameplay and football experience.....
I hope you understand now...and yes I have played all pro 2k8..picked it up the day it came out....enjoy and play for fun

Keep Legends, but make that a MODE unto itself.
Include the Franchise Mode and leave out Legends, because it really makes no sense if franchise is about improving, aging, players and also players who play drops off.
Unless... you will allow that with the Legends too.
I agree with the original poster. The Console has come a long way and with the space, memory, cpu power, graphics power, etc... the games should be much tighter than they are.
Stop competing with Madden. I think this is taking away from what 2ksports can put out in this game. It is not a level playing field so, they need to invest more time in quality assurance, and brainstorming the full lifecycle of implementing every feature of this game.
Layout the object model for commentary and do it right.
The same with penalties, referees and more signals please.... like after instant replay decision indicate whether it is a 1st down or whatever it is or change of possession, etc...
More variable weather. It shouldn't be just all down pours or all light rain or all heavy snow. Field wear needs to come from where the play is taking place. I'm sure they can do this with some type of masking technique over what would be exposed.
Not all players should be equally dirty either. Again, with a good object model they can apply a varying texture based on that players play.
Penalty play wise for players out of position.
CB in at LB should get run down by OL or caught up in that group or something.
WR at RB should make the handoff have a higher fumble rate.
The same with RB in at QB. Higher rate of fumbled snaps.
etc....
Smarter cut screen animations. I'm ahead by 30 points and the game is almost over, how many coaches will be yelling at the QB for calling a timeout rather than take a delay of game penalty?
Smarter QB stances.
Stop making my RH qb rolling out right stop into a LH qb stance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Again Quality Assurance!!!!!!!
No more exaggerated attributes that make players into Superman!!!
MORE LOS options...
more OL pass blocking options
more motion shift options including canceling a shift.
more motion options including illegal motions even if it means only allowing it in Legends Mode.
more broken plays rather than disallowing plays. Again even if it means only in Legends mode. So if you flip your reverse play the play is now busted and oh well your fault for not knowing how to play the game. I think this would make Legends mode a lot more appealing and offer more bragging rights then just based on sliders. It needs something else to set it off from All-Pro mode.
Def LOS options...
choose to focus a player here or via the playcall screen.
make your m2m switch off or follow.
individual man coverage adjustments in/out/bump/shadow
smarter zones when plays are flipped. Don't make me use a zone left to mean Zone right now because the routes have been flipped!!!!
Add sideline zone coverages where the player covers passes meant for the sideline such as outs or outside fades where they are in position.
I'd like to see better DB animation blitzing and fake blitzing like in real life.
Even if it means an option for us. If I signal a safety to blitz and do a show blitz for the LB then he should do the same and approach the line. If I signal a fake blitz he should do the same, but backoff as well.
Provide a stay at home command for the defense so no more cheap encroachment penatlies using the QB cadence. This will mean getting off slower should they hike, but at least no cheap penalties. Now this also should be done where getting off slow doesn't guarantee an unfair advantage either othewise players will take advantage of it in every short situation.
Better penalty animations. I've seen some sad animations and would like to see them be a little more obvious. Better yet make some obvious and some not so obvious. That is more realistic unless it is a grabbing the face mask.
Better playbook manager
Play Editor where we can create our own plays. Any play!!!
Reverse, double reverse, fake reverse, fake double, reverse w/fake double, flea flicker, hb pass or WR pass, various screen plays, direct snaps, etc...
This includes special teams such as reverse plays or end of the game toss across the field plays, etc... this would mean players designated to throw would lose their B, X, Y, LB, RB abilities, because they need to throw depending on how many choices you have of course. If only one then just cancel out that ability.
I don't expect all of this because believe it or not there is more, but I would like to see a good number of these features added.
Oh... more preset double team plays and qb spy plays.
And make sure there is a DL play that does not rush the QB, but contains the QB's running.
Oh... and a DL play where one of the guys look for a screen on his side.
I told you there's more!!!

I want what the majority of 2k fans want. I want 2k9 to have NFL teams, players and stadiums. Obviously 2k can't make a game like that, but with full customization they aren't making an NFL game, they're allowing the user to make an NFL game. That's basically what I , and everyone wants from this game, the ability to make All Pro 2k9 and NFL game.
2ksports can't legally make and NFL game, but we can.
Make or should I say let it happen 2k.
