HOWARD UNIVERSITY BASKETBALL MEDIA DAY

As Media Day kicks off at Howard, more media members are in attendance than usual because of the new coah, Andy Thompson, who led Howard to an eLite Eight as a 16 seed in his playing days at Howard. There will be press conferences with Coach Thomspn and his 3 captains, Randy Hampton, Eugune Myatt and Jeron Smith. Smith is the only senior on the team this year.

A.D. Mark Frederickson: Thank you everyone for coming as we introduce our new head coach Andy Thompson and the rest of the 2007-2008 Bison team. I will now let Coach Thompson speak and you can ask him questions as you like.

Coach Thompson: Thank you Mark. First off, I'd just like to say that I am excited about this year's team and very grateful to Howard University to give me this opportunity. I am dissapointed about Coach Adams leaving, and I have learned alot from him. My two assistants will be Robin Cooley, a fearsome recruiter (B- charisma) and Lewis Merrit, who is a great mind on the defensive side. I'm very happy with these two assistnats as I played with Cooley in High School and Miinter was a fierce rival while he played at opur rivals, Morgan St. Now, does anyone have any questions?

Washington Post: Coach Thompson, what are some of your goals this year, and in the future?

Coach Thompson: Well, I hope to win at least 16 games this year, finish in the top 3 in conference play and hopefully, make a postseason tournament.

Baltimore Sun: Coach, who do you think are your best talents on the team, for example, shooters, rebounders, and more of that nature?

Coach Thompson: Well, I believe that my 2 starting captians, Euguene Myatt and Randy Hampton are my best two pure scorers, Kandi Mucole, my starting center is a great rebounder and if he gets on, Theo Livingston can make a few outside shots. Last question now, and then I'll bring my players up.

Comcast Sportsnet: Coach, who are you thinking of scheduling, any Maryland teams, any tournaments?

Coach Thompson: Good question, I'm only going to have the team play in one tournament, the Liberty Bell Classic, and some Maryland and DC teams that I'm going to schedule are Loyola(MD)(In the Liberty Bell Classic), UMBC, Maryland and George Washington, all tough teams. I'm also going to schedule Indiana.Thank you for your time and now, here are my 3 captains, SR Jeron Smith, JR Randy Hampton and JR Eugene Myatt. They'll each take one question each.

ESPN.COM: Jeron, as the only senior on the team, do you feel more pressure to lead this team?

Jeron Smith: Well, I feel that I know the most about this team, and in my freshman year, I actually played with Coach Thomspn, as he was a senior that year, so basically I've been with him for 4 years and know his feel, and I think i can teach the other players that.

Howard Student Gazette: Eugene, you played at Lower Merion HS in Philly, Kobe Bryant's former school, are you excited to go back there for the Liberty Bell Classic?

Randy Hampton: Yeah, it should be fun, and we get to play Drexel if we both win our first game, and Drexel was the other main school I was considering.

Washington Post: Eugene, you were the leading scorer for this team last year, do you think you can repeat that performance?

Eugene Myatt: I think this year we have a better surrounding cast and I won't need to carry the load by myself.

A.D. Mark Frederickson: Thank you, media members for coming, and we look forward to the start of this exciting new season.

HOWARD vs UC Davis
Burr Gymnasium, Washington DC

The Bison opened there seaosn in front of a packed Burr Gymnasium, a sellout at 1,200 people. The students were pumped as before the game, Coach Andy Thompson's Jersey was hung from the rafters, the only jersey up there. The players said they were excited and didn't want to come close to losing this game for their coach. Apparently, they didn't live up to the promise, as UC-Davis came out gunning, with their top scorer Vince Oliver nailing 5 straight 3's. the Aggies were up 21-4 with 7:19 to go. (14 mins forgot to put that, All-American diff) Thompson called for a timeout and after the game he told us, told his players to go out there and dunk the f_____ ball down their throat. The Bison did just that as Kandi Mucole scored 4 straight buckets, all dunks, that got tiny Burr Gymnasiun rocking. Then Jeron Smith nailed an ANd-1 layup and Torrance Timothy drilled a 3 to cap a 14-0 run. after exchanging baskets, the halftime score was 34-30 UC Davis ahead.

In the 2nd half, the starters dominated. Kandi Mucole scored 7 more points and the two captian forwards, Eugene Myatt and Randy Hampton both added 12 in the 2nd half, but in the Bison-dominated scoring fest, Torrance Timothy, the top Bison freshman, scored 22 in the 2nd half, including 4-4 from 3 range. The final score was
89-62

Afterward, Washington Post Reporter Adam Brennan asked Thompson a few questions.
Brennan: Coach, it must've eben an emotional game with the whole ceremony, how do you think the players reacted?

Coach Thompson: Well, Adam, I'm just too happy right now, I won my first game as a coach, my number got hung up and the Gym was rocking, I just can't focus on questions. I'm speechless.

Stats:
Torrance Timothy: 24 pts, 4-4 from 3pt
Kandi Mucole: 15 pts, 9 rebs
Randy Hampton: 12 pts, 5 ast
Julius Hearn:2 pts, 8 ast

HOWARD (1-0) AT MARYLAND (2-0)
COMCAST CENTER
Coach Andy Thompson knew it would be a huge task to try and upset a much-bigger, better shooting Maryland team in comcast Center, one of the most hostile gyms in the ACC. Howard did not come out of the gates as slow as against UC Davis, by staying pace with the Terps. James Gist and Bambale Osby, the Terp's two bigmen both picked up 2 quick fouls and had to come out. Howard's guards were getting excellent penetration, causing Maryland to foul and give the Bison the perimeter. The plan was working but Howard's shots just weren't falling. The Bison were 0-11 from 3PT Range, and only 3-7 from the foul line. Maryland was leading 41-23 at the half, and with the bigmen coming back in, it looked bleak for Coach Thompson's squad.

In the second half though, the Howard guards caught fire as Torrance Timothy and theo Livingston both hit 2 back to back 3's, and then Mucole slammed one home on a fats break to cap off the 14-2 run, slimming the deficit to 43-35, but that was the closest that the Bison got as Maryland pulled away for a 71-54 win, with Greivis Vazquez having maybe the best game of any player in the nation so far in this young season with 35 points and 12 assists.

Stats
Torrance Timothy: 11 pts, 7 ast
Eugene Myatt: 15 pts
Julius Hearn: 3 pts, 8 ast
Kandi Mucole: 6 pts, 11 rebs
Theo Livingston: 9 pts, 3-3 from 3PT

Maryland:
Greivis Vazquez: 35 pts, 12 ast, 7 stl, 6 rebs

NEXT: Howard (1-1) at Virginia (2-0)

question: Don't really know anything about your school, but your coach Andy Thompson was he actually really on the team a couple years ago?

Sorry to see you lose to Maryland, but the one good thing is that you had spurts in the game that were promising. At least in the next year or so they can come together so when you play teams like that you can go from spurts to playing great against great ball clubs all game to keep the game close to even upset them.

HOWARD AT VIRGINIA
JOHN PAUL JONES ARENA
Coach Thompson's Howard squad probably had some butterflies before the 8:00 tipoff, as because of high winds and hard rains at the 2K Sports Classic, the game between the Cavs and Bison was scheduled to air on ESPNU. In a sold-out John Paul Jones Arena, the Cavs, led by Sean Singletray, won the tip-off and Singletary took it all the way down the court for an easy layup, then got a steal and nailed a deep, almost NBA-range 3. That was almost all that went right for the Cavs in the first half. With 6-11 Center Tonyi Suroye injured, the Cavs tallest player was 6-9, making size a major concern for the Cavs. The Bison took advantage of the first game where they were equal in size and pounded the ball to Mucole, who became the distributor, getting 5 assists in the first half. The score at the half was 41-35Which was the first advantage Howard had in the first half all season.

In the 2nd half, Kandi Mucole picked up 2 quick fouls, bringing his total to 4, and Anthony Thomas had to step in at C. Singletary continued to lead the Cavs, who wouldn't go away. With 40 seconds left, MMucole fouled out when Singletary drove, made the layup and was fouled, giving Virginia a 3-point lead. the Bison had a small, shooting group on the floor with Anthony Thomas, Randy Hampton, Theo Livingston, Torrance Timothy and Dominique Davis. Davis had been the hero in the 2nd half, filling in for Julius Hearn who took a hard spill, but was not seriously hurt. Davis had trouble guarding Singletary but played great offense. Almost everyone in John Paul Jones was quiet, wondering who the ball would go to. After milking the clock, Howard ran their offense and with 3 seconds on the shot clock, Livingston drove, stepped back and nailed a three, and with 7 seconds left, Virginia Called a timeout. Howard double-teamed Singletary off the inbound and Singletary couldn't get the ball, and when Virginia guard Calvin Baker threw an errant pass, Davis stole the ball and was fouled while shooting a layup at the buzzer. Davis missed the first foul shot to the left. He back-rimmed the second, and as the ball bounced 3 times, after what seemed liek 2 hours, it bounced through, and howard pulled off a huge upset, [COLOR="Navy"]71-70

Adam Brennan was at the game and talked to Coach thompson after the huge upset on primetime.

Brennan: Coach, you guys took advantage of their size and let Mucole run the show the first half, was this planned?

Coach Thomspon: Actually, no it wasn't. Julius Hearn has been ammazing with his passing this year and make those decisions.

Brennan: Speaking of Hearn, how is he?

Coach Thomspon: Oh he'll be fine, he just is a little sore and he'll play against Penn. This was a huge win and we need to follow it up.

Brennan: Thanks, coach.

Stats:
Kandi Mucole: 10 pts, 7 rebs, 6 asts (FOULED OUT)

Yes, there was a guy named Andy Thomspon, but he wasn't that great, he was their best senior tho.

Also, check out the Virginia post.

And Blue apoocalypse: My Center, Kandi Mucole's been great on teh boards, but yea, size is an issue, I've played kind of small teams and the Liberty Bell Classic is a concern because Loyola and Drexel both are big, and Drexel's C, Frank Eddenbury is averaging 24 PPG and 11RPG.

PENN VS HOWARD
BURR GYMNASIUM
Coming off maybe the program's buggest win, after beating Virginia on national TV, Andy Thompson's crew takes on 1-3 Penn, who is with Princeton, an Ivy League power, led by PG Jon Garber. Howard won the tip, and because of the size equality, Howard was comfortbale driving the lane and giving the ball to suprising 6'8" Center, Kandi Mucole. Mucole, though, got into foul trouble and Anthony Thomas was also stricken by fouls. Thomas stayed in and ended the half with 4 fouls, as Garber was consistently getting penetration. The Bison faithful, led by the student section was loud though, as Penn went 4-11 from the free throw line. Torrance Timothy was red hot after Mucoloe went out, scoring 13 straight points and giving Howard a 2 point lead with 2:20 left in the 1st, 31-29, but then Jon Garber went on a tear, getting 5 steals and scoring 11 points to close out the half. Penn was leading 40-32 at the break. Torrance Timothy had 15, and Garber had 22.

In the 2nd half, Mucole came back in and got his first double-double of the year, scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds, but both he and Thomas fouled out with 2:01 left, and Howard only holding a 6 point lead. Garber had 4 fouls, and Penn was above the bonus. Coach Thompson called a timeout and set up a pick and roll to get Garber out of the game. Hearn got the ball off the pick from Eugene Myatt and Garber fought through Myatt's screen too hard and had 5. Timothy drained a midrange jumper to put the game away, and Howard won their second straight, 69-61

Stats:
Torrance Timothy: 21 pts
Kandi Mucole: 12 pts, 10 rebs(FOULED OUT)
Julius Hearn:9 pts, 7 ast

HOWARD MEN'S BASKETBALL PRESS RELEASE
Coach Andy Thompson has announced that the Men's Basketball team has offered both of their 2 scholarships and have signed one player they offered to:

Chris Atkinson:6'3" SG: 3* JUCO (#19 JuCo player)
Though Coach Thompson said going for JUCO players was against his better judgement, and that he didn't need another guard, he just couldn't pass up this oppurtunity. Atkinson has a great shot, many rated it as an A-, he is also filled with good potential and has great hustle on the floor. Because of his young group, Coach Thompson is expected to redshirt Atkinson to start next season.

HOWARD (3-1) VS LOYOLA,MD (3-2)-LIBERTY BELL CLASSIC
THE PALESTRA
Andy Thompson said that playing the first game in a new tournament to this seaosn was "cool and special" for Howard Basketball and the game was featured on local TV in Maryland, DC and Philly. All year, the Bison have had trouble guarding Point Guards who can get penetration and against Gerald Brown, the Loyola star, Karl Mucole and Anthony Thomas would have a challenge staying out of foul trouble. Mucole only had 1 foul when he sat down to rest and then Thomas picked up 2. Eugene Myatt, playing his unnatural PF position, also picked up 2 quick fouls, taking a scoring threat out of the lineup. Brown was also great on defense, not letting Julius Hearn create plays and keep up his high assists numbers. At the half, the Brown-led Loyola team was leading 34-21 In the 2nd half, Torrance Timothy picked up his points, but Mucole could not get going and Thomas fouled out with 7 minutes left in the half. Julius Hearn finished with 3 assists, a season low, and Theo Livingston was held scoreless. Nate Cooper, a dissapointing player off the bench so far, led the team in scoring with 14 points. With 3:31 left in the 2nd, and Howard down by 15, Thompson put in his bench and Dominique Davis got hot, made 4 straight jumpers from mid-range and the Bison were back in the game. With 22 seconds left, Howard got the ball back, down by 2. Gerald Brown kept up his amazing performance by stealing the ball from Davis and made all his free throws, as the Greyhounds won 69-62

Stats:
Nate Cooper: 15 pts, 4 rebs
Torrance Timothy:11 pts
Dominique Davis: 10 pts, 3 ast

Loyola:
Gerald Brown: 25 pts, 4 stls, 8 ast

Adam Brennan was able to interview Thompson after the game

Brennan:Coach, it must've been dissapointing after 2 huge wins to ose this game to Loyola, how do you think the players will play in tommrow's game?

Coach Thompson: I think that they'll really want to get back out there and prove themselves.

Brennan:Your defense's woes against good Point Guards continued tonight, do you think that if you play Robert Morris, it will be easier on defense because they're more of a shooting team?

Coach Thompson: Yes, I think It should be easier if we don't let them shoot us out of the building. If we play Drexel, covering Eddenbury will be tough.

NEXT: HOWARD (3-2) vs Drexel (4-1)/Robert Morris (2-3)

ROBERT MORRIS (2-4) VS HOWARD (3-2)-LIBERTY BELL CLASSIC-CONSOLATION
THE PALESTRA
Against a more shooting team in Robert Morris, Howard shouldn't have too much of a problem playing defense, but Robert Morris has only been allowing 64 PPG, even with 4 losses, so the question is whether the Bison could produce enough offense. They did tonight, coming out gunning, going 7-9 form 3PT range, and outrebounding Robert Morris 19-4. RMU had the advantage in size, with a 7 footer and 6'10" power forward, but Coach Thompson got Coach Marvin West of San Jose. St to talk to his team before the game, and he made the point of rebounding is hard work, not size. Torrance Timothy led the team with 16 pts, and Kandi Mucole had 11 pts and 8 rebs. The Bison were also running a great fast break, scoring a quarter of their 44 first-half points on the break. Coach Thompson felt confident going into halftime, with his team leading 40-18 Adam Brennan caught up with Coach Thompson going into the locker room at halftime.

Brennan: Coach, your offense has been amzing? Do you think they can keep it up?

Coach Thompson: They better. They're playing great topnight, bouncing backj form the tough loss.

Brennan: Are you still going to play your starters in the 2nd half?

Coach Thompson: Yep, maybe halfway thru if we're still up this much, I'll pull em.

No one let up on Howard's side, as Thompson did in fact pull his starters halfway through the 2nd half, and the Bison ended up winning 92-53

UMBC (6-3) VS HOWARD (4-2)
BURR GYMNASIUM

Before the game, senior captain guard Jeron Smith, who has never beaten UMBC in his career, gauranteed a win, saying "It's now or never, this is our year." The rivalry has been made even more hostile the last 2 games, with UMBC winning both by only 1 point. The case was true tonight again as the teams were both at their best. Coach Thompson started Smith as Torrance Timothy had a minor injury of a broken toe, hes day-to-day, but didn't play against the Retrievers. The Bison were led by Smith who was at his best, scoring a first-half career high of 12 points. Tyler Greene, who led the country in assists coming into the game, continued his dominance with 7 dimes in the 1st half. Kandi Mucole got a rebound off a Greene layup with 5 seconds to go and fed to a sprinting Julius Hearn downcourt and Hearn made a buzzer-beating layup to make the score 39-39 at the half.

In the 2nd half, Smith kept knocking down shots, scoring 17 more points. Greene got on fire for UMBC, scoring 8 straight points at 1 time, and with 2 minutes to go, and the score tied each team kept matching shot after shot. Tyler Greene came up with a steal with 12 seconds to go, took it the length of the court and gave UMBC a 2 point lead. With 8 seconds left, Coach Thompson called a timeout and must've said something good, because right off the inbound, Julius Hearn drove, kicked it out to SMith, who then drove and slammed a dunk home. Grene missed the halfcourt shot, and the game was going to overtime with the score at 74-74.

In overtime, the captains for Howard were the name of the game, scoring all of the Bison's 15 points, but still, no one on Coach Thompson's squad could stop Tyler Greene, who scored 13 points, and made a clutch steal and feed to tie the game at 89, and with 3 seconds left, Eugene Myatt missed a buzzer beating no-look layup.

In the second extra 5, it was alot more defensive thamn the first. Kandi Mucole was dominating inside, and Tyler Greene almost became a no factor. Mucole scored 6 points and got 4 rebounds, and Greene could only get one assist. But that one was key. With 5 seconds left, down by 3, Greene was looking fdor a shot, then got triple teamed, and passed between Mucole's legs to Eric Freedy, the UMBC Power Forward, who drained a tying 3, and the score was tied at 94.

Jeron Smith then screamed out "This is ours" going into the 3rd OT, and it was his. He drilled 4 straight 3's bringing his points total to 31, a new career high, then added two dunks, and set the Howard record for most points in a game, besting Coach Thompson's 34. his 16 points put away the game, 112-98.

Stats
Jeron Smith: 35 pts
Eugene Myatt: 21 pts, 8 rebs
Nate Cooper: 3 pts, 13 rebs
Randy Hampton: 18 pts, 5 ast
Kandi Mucole: 12 pts, 16 rebs

UMBC:
Tyler Greene: 38 pts, 17 ast
Eric Freedy: 24 pts, 11 rebs

Adam Brennan got an interview in with the pum ped-up Coach Thompson

Brennan: Coach, Jeron Msith was amzing tonight, breaking your points record, ws that expected?

Coach Thompson: Well, Adam, I told him to take over the game, and he did that, and now he won it for himself, and puleld this team through in tough points of this game. I'm so excited right now, it's unbelievable!

HOWARD (5-2) VS GEORGE WASHINGTON (7-3)
CHARLES E. SMITH ATHLETIC CENTER
Coming off a huge win against UMBC in triple-overtime, the Bison were just outmatched from the start by the homestanding Colonials. GW gaurd Mo Rice was excellent from the start, going 3-3 from the field in GW's first 4 possesions. With Torrance Timothy still aiding his broken toe, Jeron Msith couldn't pull oput another magic night and only had one basket in the 1st half. Kandi Mucole and Anthony Thomas both had 3 fouls, and Julius Hearn had 7 turnovers. Coach Thompson's crew was down 44-23 at the half.

In the 2nd half, Thompson finnally went extremely beserk and went with an all guard lineup, and Eugene Myatt inside. On the floor was Julius Hearn, Dominique Davis, Jeron Smith and Theo Livingston. Hampton was soon pulled after 2 errant passes and Nate Cooper came in. Down 23, the Bison went on a 16-2 run, closing the gap to 9. The success was short-lived though, as Mo Rice led GW to a relatively easy win, 84-68.

Coach Thompson and his assistants immediately went to the locker room, and student reporter Chris Green spotted DC native Chris Atkinson in the stands.

Green: Chris, I'm Chris Green (haha) from the Howard Student Gazette. Were you dissapointed from what you saw tonight?

Atkinson: Wel not really, I like ho the team came back and I'd love to be able to play for Coach Thompson and win one of these close ones.

HOWARD (5-3) VS NORTHWESTERN (6-2)
CONSECO FIELDHOUSE
Digger Phelps picked this game as an upset on College Gameday, and apparently, he knew what he was talking about, as the Bison played with a chip on their shoulder, maybe from a game they wanted to win badly against George Washington. Torrance Timothy was back and he was a go-to-guy. Scoring the team's first 15 points, Timothy went 3-3 from 3PT and had 2 baskets with fouls. Julius Hearn had 4 early assists and Kandi Mucole got every rebound in the first half of the opening period. Northwestern couldn't find an answer, and their leading scorer in the 1st half, Micheal Thompson only had 6 points, with Andy Thompson's squad leading 41-29.

Opening the 2nd half, Micheal Thompson scored 7 straight points and Kandi Mucole picked up 2 quick fouls. The Wildcats went on an 8-0 tear and Coseco Fieldhouse was rocking. Down 3, Coach Thompson called a timeout, and after the game he told Adam Brennan that he told his players to give the ball to Torrance Timothy and Jeron Smith. Timothy nailed a 3 to tie the game, then Msith stole the inbound, jammed one home and got fouled. When Smith missed the foul shot, Nate Cooper got the rebound, kicked it out to Dominique Davis and Davis hit a 3. Howard went from being down 3 to being up 5 in less than 10 seconds. From there, eachc team exchanged baskets until Northwestern went on a 7-0 run and built a 1 point lead. With 56 seconds to go, the Wildcats' Micheal Thompson hit a floater and the Bison needed a 3 to tie the game. Coach Thompsin had no timeouts and his lineup was Kandi Mucole, Eugene Myatt, Randy Hampton, Theo Livingston and Torrance Timothy. Timothy drove and was fouled, and his shot rimmed out. After hitting the first foul shot, he intentionally missed the second, and Kandi Mucole got his 16th rebound of the night, went up, slammed the ball, and promplty, gave Micheal Thompson his 5th foul. With the game tied and 31 seconds left, Mucole nailed the free throw and Howard was up 1. Jason okersezlik, the Wildcat's captian, nailed a 3 and the Bison were down 2. Timothy got the inbound, went all the way down the court and nailed a buzzer-beating mid-range shot to give the Bison an amzing upset win.

Adam Brennan talked to the exhausted and voice-depleted Coach Thompson

Brennan: Coach, this win was close and intense, how do you think this young team could pull this win out?

Coach Thompson: Well Adam, my good man, these guys have been in alot of close games and torrance was just amazing. Almost as amazing as Jeron was against UMBC. We put up a helluva fight, like I told these guys to, and our hard work paid off.

Brennan: Next you have indiana at home, with Eric Gordon and D.J. White both out wiht injuries, do you think your guys might feel like they could win that game without too much effort?

Coach Thompson: They probably will, but Indiana could beat us 9 out of 10 times with their subs. Hopefully, we cdan make this the 1 time out of 10.

Brennan: Thanks, coach.

NEXT: INDIANA (10-1) VS HOWARD (6-3)

INDIANA (10-2) VS HOWARD (6-3)
BURR GYMNASIUM

Indiana only had 7 players active with their top 5 scorers out, and all of them starters. Coach Thompson said that his Bison could beat Indiana one out of ten times, but this one could be possible, with all the momentum from Northwestern. Torrance Timothy kept up his brillinat freshman season, again being a go-to-guy for Julius Hearn and the Bison. Randy Hampton stepped up on the offensive side of the ball, other than just being a defensive stalwart. Eugene Myatt started to heat up, after a couple of down scoring games. Kandi Mucole was still overmatched in height, but got help from Nate Cooper coming off the bench. Even with the players clicking on Coach Thomspon's team, Indian was hungry for a win. Thompson later said that it was funny that it was INDIANA that was hjungry for a win against HOWARD. Armon Bassett was the main scorer for Indiana and got Nate Cooper into foul trouble. After a late run in the 1st half, Indiana was in the game, 31-26.

The 2nd half was turned into a slow-down, clock milking game. Howard went "big" with Kandi Mucole, Anthonmy Thomas, Nate Cooper and Randy Hampton all in. Julius Hearn ran the offense with the slower, taller lineup. Basset started to cool off and DeAndre Thomas scored 6 straight points for the Hoosiers, giving them a 2 point lead with 1:30 to go. Coach Thomspon called a timeout and subbed in his fast lineup. Eugene Myatt and Randy hampton were the big men, with Theo Livingston, Torrance Timothy and Julius Hearn at guard. Hearn drove all the way down the floor and put in a layup, but DeAndre Thomas took a charge, and Hearn picked up his fifth foul. Senior Jeron SMith came in and got a steal from Armon Basset as he tried to cross over Smith. Smith went all the way and jammed the ball, tying the game up at 60. With 50 seconds, Kelvin Sampson called a timeout. All of the Bison's starters, with Hearn replaced by Smith, were back in, and Coach Thompson set up a feverish press and Randy Hampton denied Armon Bassett the ball. DeAndre Thoams got the ball down low and missed a hook shot. Mucole grabbed only his 3rd rebound of the night, a season low, and kicked it out to Torrance Timothy on the wing. With the shot clock off and 18 seconds left, Timothy held the ball near the top of the key, and with 7 seconds left, drove, got fouled, and made his shot. Missing the free thrown, Timothy then accidentally picked up his 3rd foul by reaching in on Thomas, but was luckily only the Bison's 6th team foul. With 2.3 seconds left, Basset got the inbound, pulled up for a midrange shot, and watched it rim out, and everyone in Burr Gymnasium flooded the court, after Howard's biggest win ever, 62-60

Julius Hearn: 5 pts, 7 ast (FOULED OUT)

AMERICAN (4-8) VS HOWARD (7-3)
BURR GYMNASIUM
DC Rivals American and Howard square off in this always=exciting rivalry, but this edition was anything but exciting. The Bison couldn't buy a shot, and Julius Hearn was the only player to score in the first 8 minutes, and Maeicfan was on an offensive slugfest. Hearn only had 8 points at the half and only Torrance Timothy and Kandi Mucole had also scored, both adding 7. AU was leading 43-22 at the half.

After a dissapointing 1st half following huge wins, Coach Thompson's squad started clicking. After a n 11-0 run, though, the Bison cooled off and the game stayed even, with American leading throughout. A late run with 2 minutes left pulled the Bison's final defecit to 6, with the score ending as a 74-68 win for the Eagles.

Delray Harvin, a student reporter had a few quick words with Coach Thompson after the game.

Harvin: Coach, do you think your guys might've been a little overconfident coming into today's game?

Coach Thompson: Yeah, after the big wins I think they began to think they could beat a team like American, but we still have work to do to win these games.

Harvin: Next up you have a road game against VMI, who are 8-3 and leading the country in scoring offense. Do you think this is a winnable game?

Coach Thompson: Every game's winnable, it just depends which team actually wants to win.

Stats:

HOWARD (7-4) VS VMI (8-3)
CAMERON HALL
VMI, the leader in team 3's, led by the NCAA's leading scorer, Reggie Williams, with 24.5 PPG were coming off a 4 game win streak including a big win against Army, 94-52. The Bison have been much better on defense against shooting teams, but VMi is one on the nation's best. Kandi Mucole and Nate Cooper, who got the start for injured Eugene Myatt didn't let the home-standing Keydets get anything inside, so they had to start shooting. Willie Bell hit 2 quick 3's for VMI, but Torrance Timothy answered with 5 straight points. Reggie Williams came back and got a 4-point play off an NBA-range 3. The whole half was back-and-forth high-scoring with no one player carrying the load. Each player on Coach Thompson's team scored, and neither Kandi Mucole or Nate Cooper had any fouls. VMI shot 61% from the field, and 65% from 3PT range, and the Bison shot 58%, with the Keydets leading at halftime, 49-46.

The 2nd half produced more of the same, as Reggie Williams asdded 14 points and Chavis Holmes, VMI's leading 3PT shooter, made 3 long triples. Torrance Timtohy drove and slashed into the weak VMI interior defense, and Kandi Mucole grabber everything in the area code, Howard went on a 13-1 run, and took an 8 point lead with 2 minutes to go. VMI got to 4 points, but couldn't get closer. The Bison won by a final score of 94-87.

Adam Brennan talked to Coach Thompson after the high-scoring win.

Brennan: Coach, everyone was on for both teams tonight, do you think it was the run that really put you guys over the hump to win this game.

Coach Thompson: Well Adam, I think that the idea that we can beat a team that goes 24-38 from 3 is great, and that we can keep our composure doing it.

Brennan: Conference play starts now, any ideas or predictions of how the team will do?

Coach Thompson: I think we can be a front runner in the conference, but the wins don't count anyhmore, and I'm going to tell the team this, but form now on our record is 0-0 and no team is better or worse than us coming into conference.

Stats:
Torrance Timothy: 29 pts

FLORIDA A+M(6-6) VS HOWARD (8-4)
BURR GYMNASIUM
The Bison were pumped up for a hom opener in confernce play, and the emotion showed on the court, as they jumped out to a 13-0 lead behind lights-out shooting and a relentless press. Julius Hearn was everywhere, hitting a 3 from the tip-off, getting a steal and a quick layup, then another steal and feeding Randy Hampton for an open mid-range jumper. Torrance Timothy hit two deep 3's, and Kandi Mucole added a dunk off a nice feed from Hearn on the fast break. FAMU couldn't find any answer for the jump-start Bison, who every time in the 1st half when A+M looked to be making a run shut them down with a great defensive play, whether it was forcing a bad pass or a poster block. Coach Thompson's team was rolling on al cylinders when they went into the locker rooms, up 38-20.

In the 2nd half, Howard kept up their brilliant performance and led by bench players, mostly Jeron Smith, Nate Cooper and Theo Livingston, the Bison had a 27 point lead at one point. Even after a 19-5 run, Florida A+M was out for good and couldn't overcome the host's, with the final score ending up at 79-60. Chants of "How's The Weather Here?" Were lofting around Burr Gymnasium, as all was well in Bison Basketball world.

Delray Harvin was on hand to interview Coach Andy Thompson after the game.

Harvin: Coach, this was probably your best defensive game of the season, how do you think they pulled this out after a shootout against VMI?

Coach Thompson: Delray, I have no idea, but I do know that we beat one of the best teams in the conference out there and these guys are playing with a purpose, and not many teams can beat them when they play like this, Gotta go, thanks Delray

Harvin: No coach, thank you.

BETHUNE-COOKMAN (3-10) (0-1) VS HOWARD (9-4) 1-0)
BURR GYMNASIUM

Bethune-Cookman knew coming into the game that their best shot to beat Howard was by turning this game into a slow game, but the Bison wouldn't let them. LEd by Coach Thompson's greatly drawn-up press, Julius Hearn and Curtis White were forcing turnovers all over the court. Excelent off the bench, White was a pleasent suprise for Howard, leading the team in scoring the first half, with 13 points. Julius Hearn had every assist for the first 6 baskets made by the home-standing Bison. With two 13-2 runs at the start and end of the half, Coach Thompson was pleased going into the locker room, with this team up 44-27.

The 2nd half was more of the same, with the bench being cleared with 6 minutes to go, and Torrance Timothy being the only starter in, stepped up and scored the bulk of his points late in the game, finsihing 2nd on the team with 23 points. After a relatively silent first half, Kandi Mucole was held with only 2 points, but grabbed 7 rebounds and got 3 blocks in the 2nd half. Curtis White added another 14 points to amass a career-high 27 points, leading Howard to their 2nd conference win, 84-69.

Stats:
Curtis White: 27 pts, 4 stls

HOWARD (10-4) (2-0) VS WINSTON-SALEM ST (5-9) (1-1)
LJVM Coliseum
Howard, coming in as the league's favorite was outplayed from the get-go by the upstart Winstom Salem Rams team. The Rams turned this game into a slow-down, less possesion game and Coach Thomspon's crew and were the first team all year to successfuly pull this off against the Bison. One area that Howard was struggling in was shooting. Torrance Timothy seemed like the only player who could make a shot, and his 18 points in the first half single-handedly kept The Bison a shot to come back, down 36-26.

The 2nd half was more equal as Coach Thompson set up his relentless press and Howard took the 10 point deficit and turned it into a 5 point lead. From then, the Rams were on all night. LJVM was rocking as every time the visitors made a shot, WSS nailed a 3 or made a great play on offense. After finally taking a 2-pont lead with 4 minutes to go, the closest the Bison ever were was 6 points, and the final score was 78-70.

Adam Brennan talked to Coach Thompson after the game

Brennan: Coach, this is a huge letdown game, how do you think the players will bounce back?

Coach Thompson: Well, the Rams were on all night, and chants of "overrated" made me see how far we've come in such a short time. That's all I'm gonna say tonight, let's talk again soon.

Brennan: Sure coach, thanks.

Coach Thompson had his team ready for their 2nd game on National TV, as the Bison came out gunning, led by Senior guard Jeron Smith who was getting the start for injured Randy Hampton, scored the first 12 points of the game, with Smith scoring 7 of the 12 points. But SC State was leading the conference for a reason. Their strong inside game was never more evident as even though the scoring came from guards, including Josh Johnson, State's leading scorer, the hosts came back into the game. ON the last possesion of the half, Torrance Timothy nailed a contested fadeaway 3 at the buzzer to give the Bison a 7 point lead, 34-27.

In the 2nd half, Eugene Myatt regained his form from last year, scoring 14 straight points and giving Howard a 21-point lead, and the Bison never looked back from there. SC State made one last run and closed the gap to 9, but Coach Thompson's squad won their second game this year on primetime, 84-72

ESPN's Dari Noka interviewed Coach Thompson after the game.

Noka: Coach, this win really puts you in position for the conference lead. Are you thinking NCAAs?

Coach Thompson: Well, I think thats the goal and the only real way to do that is by winning the MEAC tourney, but we need to play more good basketball the rest of the year and win this conference.

Noka: Do you think this team has potential to make the tournament?

Coach Thompson: This team really deserves it, they've tried harder than any team I've ever played or coached on. It's amazing.

MORGAN ST (10-6) (2-2) VS HOWARD (11-5) (3-1)
BURR GYMNASIUM

Morgan St, led by Coach Bozeman, came out of the gate gunning for a win, but no one on Morgan could stop Howard's Curtis White. The Bison couldn't score with anyone but White, who was getting constant penetration and hit 2 out of 3 3-point attempts. Leading all scorers with 14 pts, White had Howard on top at the half, 26-23

In the 2nd half, Bozeman came up with a plan to stop Howard's guards and Kandi Mucole and Eugene Myatt had to step up. With 5 minutes left, down 6, Kandi Mucole scored 7 straight points, but the success was short-lived. Morgan St. scored 6 straight points to take a 5-point lead and with a minute left, Torrance Timothy nailed a triple. After a steal with 27 seconds left, Julius Hearn brought the ball up court, and instead of holding the ball for the last shot, Hearn went straight to the basket, was fouled, and nailed the layup. On the free throw, Hearn missed it to the left, and with 13 seconds left, the Morgan St Bears got the rebound, and with 3 seconds left, guard Randall Newport made a mid-range jumper to give Morgan St the win, 62-60

After the game, Adam Brennan talked with coach Thompson.

Brennan: Coach, tonight was a close game against a good team in Mogan St, are you dissapointed?

Coach Thompson: Well Adam, I'm always dissapointed after a loss, but this is a wake-up call that in order to compete with the top of the conference, the kids must bring their best game every night.

Brennan: Thanks, coach.

COPPIN ST (9-8) (4-1) VS HOWARD (11-6) (3-2)
BURR GYMNASIUM
The two DC-area rivals faced off in this battle for the ages, with Coppin coming in on a 5-game win streak and Howard coming in off a close loss to Morgan State. Tywain McKee gave the Bison the familiar sick feeling fo point guards driving right down their throat. After a dunk and a 3 pointer by McKee to give the Eagles a 7-point lead Coach Thompson called a timeout and the sold out Burr Gymnaisum was as quiet as a morgue. From the press table, Thompson was heard telling his team that this was the worst they'd played all year and that if they didn't get their heads in the game, the Bison players would be running suicides until someone arrested him. The players quickly responded as Nate Cooper was subbed in for Eugene Myatt, nailed a fast break dunk to pull the deficit to 3, then Julius Hearn got a steal after trapping McKee in the corner, then fed to Curtis White who promptly swished a game-tying 3. With 6 seconds left, McKee took the ball upcourt, was blocked with 3 seconds by Nate Cooper, then Randy Hampton took the ball all the way and hit a desperation 30-footer as the buzzer sounded. the score was 41-38, with Howard In the lead

Coming out in the 2nd half, Jeron Smith became the true senior leader for the Bison squad. Smith accounted for all of Howard's 13 points in their 13-1 run to open the half. With 3 3-pointers and 2 assists to Eugene Myatt, Smith was the main man, and Coach Thompson was so relieved, he sat down for the first time ever this year. Tywain McKee hit 4 shots in a row, and the lead was cut from 15 to 7. After exchanging baskets and Coppin going on another 6-0 run, the Eagles, led by McKee exchanged baskets with Coach Thompson's squad, and with the wcore at 78-77 with a minute left, Coppin with the ball, Torrance Timothy rejected McKee's 3 point attempt, took it the other way and converted on an foul and bucket. After hitting the free throw and another missed shot by Coppin, the Bison had the win, 85-78.

Adam Brennan talked to Coach Thompson after the big win

Brennan: Coach, Jeron Smith came out and set the tone in the 2nd half, and has been huge in Maryland rivalry games, why do you think he is exceptionally good in those games?

Coach Thompson: Well, these games really mean alot to him because the past few years have been down years for this team and he is cherishing every moment of his senior year.

Brennan: Well coach, I won't keep you, savor this win.

Coach Thompson: Thanks Adam.

Stats:
Jeron Smith: 16 pts, 4 asts (all of both in 2nd half)

HOWARD (12-6) (4-2) Vs NC A+T (8-10) (2-4)
CORBETT SPORTS CENTER
Led by leading MEAC 3-Point shooter Steven Rush, NC A+T was in front of a packed Corbett Sports Center. Rush nailed 3 consecutive treys and then was fouled outside and knocked down the 21-footer. After making the free throw, the Aggies had a 13-0 lead, but Howard would fight back valiantly. Torrance Timothy would promptly drill a 3, followed by a Julius Hearn steal, then feed to an open Eugen Myhatt for an easy layup. After rejecting a Rush 3-point attempt, Kandi Mucole went the length of the court for an easy dunk and foul. Mucole missed the free throw but Nate Cooper, who started in place of Randy Hampton, who's inconsistent play landed him on the bench got the rebound and put it back in, pulling the deficit to 13-9. Rush made a wide open driving layup, and then this game turned into a defensive, mucky game. From that point on, the Biuson outscored the Aggies 14-10, with the game tied 23-23 at the break.

In the 2nd half, Coach Thomposn changed his offense to a motion offense and heated up the press and Howard juts ran away with the game. After a 23-2 run where the Bison only missed 2 shots, Coach Thompson pulled his starters and then Dominique Davis and Randy Hampton combined for 29 more points. The score was 71-40,Howard taing the game, led by Hampton and Torrance Timothy.

After the game, Coach Thompson was unavailable for comment.

HOWARD (13-6) (5-2) VS NORFOLK ST. (8-11) (5-2)
WILLETT HALL
In a battle for first place in the conference, the two leading MEAC scorers, Torrance Timothy and Tony Murphy had a shootout, matching each other basket for basket, and occasionally dishing it off to their teammates. Both Murphy and Timothy had 18 points at the half, with the score tied at 41-41.

In the 2nd half, more of the same offensive face-off occured. Murphy scored Norfolk's first 9 points, and Timothy hit 2 3's, made a layup and was fouled and had 2 assists. As the half went on, each team's bench stepped up as Howard's bench, led by Jeron Smith, accounted for 1/3 of the team's points. Down by 5, Norfolk, led by Murphy, went on a 12-0 run and were up by 7 with 2 minutes to go, but like he had the whole night, Timothy came back with an answer, scoring 8 straight points and hitting 3 out of 4 free throws to seal the Bison's victory, 91-86.

Stats:
Torrance Timothy: 41 pts, 7 asts, 5 stls (New Howard Record)
Jeron Smith: 13 pts, 4 rebs

Norfolk St.:
Tony Murphy: 38 pts, 11 asts

After the game, Adam Brennan caught up with Coach Andy Thompson:

Brennan: Coach, now you're leading the conference and it's excpected that you will be in the top 10 of the mid-major poll. Any thoughts of a possible bubble at-large bid if your RPI gets high enough?

Coach Thompson: Adam, right now we're just trying to win the conference and we're having alot of fun doing it.

Brennan: Timothy was amazing tonight, do you see any Howard player ever besting his points record in a single-game?

Coach Thompson: our scoring record's been broken twice this year, I think it could be possible.

Brennan: Thanks Coach.

Coach Thompson: Sure thing Adam, how's the family?

Brennan: Pretty good, coach.

WILLIAM P. HYCHTE CENTER
MD-Eastern Shore came in on a 20-game losing streak and the Bison of Howard had no intention of letting them stop that streak. Torrance Timothy came right out of the blocks strong, with 15 first-half points and Kandi Mucole recorded the Bison's first first half double-double this year with 11 points and 10 boards. The Hawks of UMES were just outmatched in evry asset of the game, and Howard led, 41-19.

In the 2nd half, more of the same kept up and with 7 minutes left, Coach Thompson pulled his startersand Theo Livingston got hot, scoring 16 straight points. UMES had their lowest scoring input of the year, with only 34 points. Kandi Mucole added to his stellar night with 10 assists, and his totals came to be 14 pts, 16 rebs, 10 asts and 6 blks. The Bison won their 15th game, 94-34.

Stats:
Kandi Mucole: 14 pts, 16 rebs, 10 asts, 6 blks, 4 blks
Torrance Timothy: 24 pts, 3 asts
Theo Livingston: 26 pts, 7-8 from 3 PT

After the game, Comcast Sportsnet reporter Scott Hansen interviewed Coach Thompson that was featured on Sportsnite.

Hansen: Coach, are you suprised by the success of this team?

Coach Thompson: Not at all Scott, we play to our strengths, and like all small confernece teams, we have obvious flaws, but we do the best to hide them and the players are great at preparing for opponents.

Hansen: In your playing days, you led this Howard team to an Elite 8 run (P.S. Everyone, I did make that up) and do you think this team shows the same characteristics that team did?

Coach Thompson: Wow, that is a tough question. I think it does, actually, we have great shooters and we want to win.

Hansen: Do you think the players might get overconfident and look past some of these weaker teams, especially after beating a UMES by 60?

Coach Thompson: I think that that is the one thing these players can't do. They know that any night, they could slip up and lose one, so I think they'll come to play every game.

Hansen: Well coach, it was great talking to you, looking forward for more future success.

Coach Thompson: Thanks Scott, it means alot.

HOWARD (15-7) (7-2) VS DELAWARE STATE (7-15) (5-4)
MEMORIAL HALL GYM

In another MEAC matchup of confernece player of the year candidate guards, Torrance Timothy brouhgbt his A game to the court against Roy Bright, of Delaware State. The Hornets captain was averaging 16.6 PPG coming into the game and that number would increase. Both Timothy and Bright found their shooting stroke early, knocking down multiple 3's, but it was Howard's overall balance that gave the Bison the first half lead, at 32-23.

In the 2nd half, though, Roy Bright took over. Bright hit 4 3's and 2 driving layups only countered by a Kandi Mucole free throw to propel a self-run, 14-1. Torrance Timothy stepped up and knocked down a mid-range jumper, which was followed by a Hornets dunk. Julius Hearn came bakc, made a layup and was fouled. After missing the free throw, Kandi Mucole got the rebound and kicked the ball out to Curtis White, who nailed an NBA-range triple. As the half dwindled down, Bright and TImothy led their respective teams to the fray, with the score tied at 60 with 21 seconds to go. Theo Livingston, Kandi Mucole, Nate Cooper, Eugene Myatt and Torrance Timothy were on the floor for the Bison. Livingsotn received the inbound and brought the ball past the midline with 12 seconds to go after beating the Delaware State press. Livingston crossed up Bright and nailed a clutch 3 to give Howard the lead with 11 seconds left. Tony Bright got open as help for the press and took a 3-pointer with 3 seconds left, but the clutch string of plays continued, as Nate Cooper was on the spot and blocked the shot away, giving Howard their 16th win of the year, 63-60.

Delray Harvin caught up with Coach Thompson after the nail-biting squaker win.

Harvin: Coach, this is your team's 16th win, and you guys are approaching the school record 18 wins in your first year. Do you think that 20 wins is an achievable goal?

Coach Thompson: Delray, I think we can win 4 more games, iff that's waht you're asking me. I just don't know if we'll come to play in them, and I'm saying now, we could lose the rest of our games, or win them, it's up to the players.

Harvin: In Joe Lunardi's initial bracketology report you are an 11 seed, how do you think the seeding is?

Coach Thompson: I'd be very happy if that's the seed we got, if we had an 8,9 or 10 we'd have to play a 1 or 2 seed in the 2nd round, and a 12 or 13, the sweet 16 we'd have to play a 1, but at 11, you get a 3 seed 2nd round, and a 2 if all goes well in the sweet 16.

Harvin: Thanks, Coach.

WINSTON-SALEM ST. (9-13) (5-5) VS HOWARD (16-7) (8-2)
BURR GYMNASIUM

Looking for the season sweep of Howard, the Rams from Winston-Salem came out strong, scoring the first 11 points of the game. Coach Andy Thompson called a timeout to get his Bison back into the game. Torrance Timothy started the game 0 for 8 and only had 1 point going into halftime. Howard's leading scorer was Kandi Mucole with 7 points at halftime, while Winston Salem St. had 3 players in double figures. The Rams had the leade at the half, 41-22.

In the 2nd half, Coach Thompson's squad came out firing, going on a 12-0 run, closing the gap to 7, but the Rams were too good on Howard's home floor. After the run, Winston-Salem went on an 8-1 run, and stayed ahead for the whole game, with the closest gap at 7. The final score was 71-62,giving the Rams their 10th season win.

After the game, Adam Brennan caught up with Coach Thompson.

Brennan: Coach, this game was lobsided form the beginning in evry category, including rebounding as Winston Salem State outrebounded you, 29-10, with Mucole getting 9 of the 10. How did that happen, do you think?

Coach Thompson: Well Adam, they're the tallest team in the league, with a 6'10" center and theyre leading the league in team rebounds, so I knew we would have a tough time on the boards, but that was unacceptable.

Brennan: Well coach, I won't hold you back, tough loss tonight.

Yep, I think I could be able to even pull off an at-large because of the big non-conference upsets, as Virginia and Indiana are both in top 20 now, but I think like 22 or more wins is magic number.

Also, Neb all your bickering made me lose, and now I have a projected 12 seed. Geez.

The Bison came out of the gates a (tad) bit sluggish, going 0-8 from beyond the arc and falling into a 21-4 deficit, with Randy Hampton scoring all 4 of the points. To close the final 3 minutes of the half, Howard went on a 21-4 run themselves and tied the game at the half, 25-25, with Julius Hearn and Randy Ahmpton comvining for qll of the points excludingNate Cooper's thunderous dunk as the buzzer sounded that made Burr Gymnasium as loud as it had ever been.

in the 2nd half, Hampton and Hearn led the H-Train to an easy victory, both finishing with 30 points to combine for 60 of the team's 80 points. Torrance Timothy did not play after the first 4 minutes of the 2nd half, where he came down off a made 3-pointer and hurt his ankle. There is no timetable for his recovery. Curtis White was third in scoring, adding in 7 points. Kandi Mucole had 11 rebounds and Nate Cooper added in with 9 boards. Coach Thompson's squad was depleted tonight with Eugene Myatt and Anthony Thomas out due to minor foot injuries. With the win, the Bison are 2 games ahead of Coppin St and the Bulldogs of S Carolina State in the MEAC Standings.

Coach Thompson was unavailable for comment after the game.

Stats:
Julius Hearn: 30 pts, 6 stls
Randy Hampton: 30 pts
Kandi Mucole: 5 pts, 11 rebs
Nate Cooper: 3 pts, 9 rebs
Curtis White: 7 pts (2-2 from 3PT)

NEXT UP: HOWARD (17-8) (9-3) Vs MORGAN ST. (14-10) (7-6)

Howard is now #8 in the Mid-Major Poll and is projected as a 10 seed.

^Pretty suprising stuff righth there with 8 losses in the worst RPI conference in the country. Oh by the way, RPI is 101.

It's just that my RPI in confernece is horrible, no one else is even in the top 250 except for Coppin St, there 247. I did my non-confernce RPi (nerd I am) and it's .634 which would be good for like top 40 in this year's RPI.

MORGAN ST. (14-10) (6-6) VS HOWARD (17-8) (9-3)
BURR GYMNASIUM
With Torrance Timothy, Eugene Myatt and Anthony Thomas still nursing injuries, (Timothy's timetable is about 2 games) the Bison were very thin and that showed form the start as when shooters got tired, shots starrted to miss. After coming out to a 15-2 lead fueled by Theo Livingston's 9 points, the homestanding Bison went on an 0-11 shooting drought and Morgan St. took the lead with 2 minutes leftf in the half, 17-15. Both teams ended up getting hot and the score at the half was in the Bison's favor, 24-23.

In the 2nd half, led by Livingston again, the Bison went on a shooting stampede and hit 7 consecutive shots, 5 of which were Livingston 3 pointers to take a 14 point lead. After having no fouls in the first, Kandi Mucole and Nate Cooper both in the course of 2 minutes picked up 4 fouls each, which sent Mucole to the bench, and Cooper fouled out right away. Whne Mucole came back in, the Bears kept pounding the ball inside and with 3 minutes left, and Howard only leading by 5, the Bison had no big men, leaving 6'5" Randy Hampton the task of playing center. With 2:15 left, the Bears took only their 2nd lead of the game and extended it to 5 with 1:41 to go. Theo Livingston continued his brilliance, htting 2 consecutive 3's and giving Howard the lead with 58 seconds left. After a Morgan 3, the Bison were down 2 and Dominique Davis had the ball with 31 seconds left. After winding down the clock to 11 seconds, Davis kicked it out to Livinbgsotn and he passed to Randy Hampton on the post. After 2 ore quick passes, Livingston got the ball back with 1.1 seconds left. He rose up for the three and was fouled, but got he shot off and after bouncing 2 times, the shot went in. On the line for the win, Livingston became the savior for Howard, as he nailed the game-wining free throw which was his 3rd game winner on the year. The final score was 71-70,giving Howard their record-tying 18th win.

After the game, Adam Brennan talked to THeo Livingston,

Brennan: Theo, you had a career-high night with 31 points and you almost single-handedly led this team to the win in the final minutes. How does it feel to be that go-to-guy in a game like this, and as a bonus, the Howard record-tying 18th win this seaosn?

Livingston: Wow, you said alot there and I just wanna say that this is probably one of the best moments of my basketball career, and the fans were amazing tonight.

Brennan: Well Theo, I'll let you go celebrate.

Stats:
Theo Livingston: 31 pts, 5 stls, 4 asts
Dominique Davis: (started for Hearn): 8 pts, 6 asts
Jullius Hearn: 2 pts, 5 asts
Kandi Mucole: 7 pts, 10 rebs, 2 blks (FOULED OUT)
Nate Cooper: 4 blks (FOULED OUT)

NEXT: COPPIN ST. (18-11) (10-3) Vs HOWARD (18-8) (10-3)

So looking at your schedule I am guessing you got 5 games left plus the tourney. I am seeing 20 wins for the Bison in year 1. I probably already asked this or I am sure you posted it, but how is recruiting going??

boomosby50
March 24th, 2008, 07:46 PM
ok, here is a recruiting update.

Chris Atkinson, 3* SG from DC, JUCO FR, #18 JuCo player. He's commited

With my other scholarship:

Offered to Joey Treedan 4* C from DC (#31 C), used to be only team with an offer and #1 with him, but GW offered him a cholly and I'm just about to offer it to:

Thomas Morris: 3* Center from Philly: 7'2" and a rebounding. I'm #1 on his list with 89% interest. Behind me on the list is

St Joe's: Offered him a scholly (I would guess, he only has 1 offer so far)

And a distant 3rd and 4th: Temple and Loyola (MD)

boomosby50
March 24th, 2008, 07:48 PM
Also, my last option would be 3* PG Nick Richards, because my 2 PG's are only 54 and can only pass, he's B on offense and B shooting.

Those are like the only guys I have gone after though, so that's why its not all 1 and 2 star guys

MAK314
March 24th, 2008, 07:52 PM
When you say #31 C do you meen he's the #31 overall and like #1 or 2 center?

Because I don't think I have EVER seen the #31 Center be a 4*, since 4*'s have to be #100 or better overall.

boomosby50
March 24th, 2008, 08:05 PM
No, sorry I meant to type #11 overall Center, he's #97 overall, but I just took away his scholly

Deuce2223
March 24th, 2008, 08:16 PM
From my expierence you will have a hard time landing a guy once a larger school offers. So it St Joes has offered then chances are you will not be able to get Morris. So I think I would turn my attention to Richards. Also if you are not past the end of in season recruiting, go and look for the top player who doesn't have a single offer yet even if he has several schools on his list that look high. Add him to your list and check back at the end of the the tourney. I just landed a 3* Center that was #191 overall but the #14 center from NY in the last week of recruiting because Georgetown,LSU,and W. Virginia all ended up signing other players even though he was never on my list.

boomosby50
March 24th, 2008, 08:24 PM
Deuce, I'm still #1 on Morris' list, and now his interest with me is at 95%, and I'm pretty good ahead of St. Joe's. his #1 priority was feeling wanted and I think somehow, he didn't feel wanted at St. Joe's.

And thanx for the advice. Next year I'll try and use it

Deuce2223
March 24th, 2008, 08:39 PM
I think I would keep going after Morris then. Dude is 7'2.I don't care how bad your PG are.

Howard (18-8) (10-3) VS COPPIN St. (18-11) (10-3)
COPPIN CENTER

In this heated battle between rivals for 1st place of the MEAC, Howard was fully helathy and they would need every player they could get as this game was an all-out physical battle. Both teams would've preferred an up-tempo game, but because of the lack of pressing as the fear that fast breaks galore would come turned this one into a grind-it-out affair. Tywain McKee and Torrance Timothy, the 2 leading candidates for MEAC player of the year were catalysts for their team in this game, each scoring 12 points in the first half, with McKee adding to his nation-leading steal tally with 3 thefts in the first period. The score at the break was 24-22,Howard.

The 2nd half became the game that was predicted, as both tema sstarted pressing and transistion games were on top gear. McKee and Timothy both scored 15 points each in the first 6 minutes of the half, and the score was close throughout the half. With 2:30 left, and the Bison down 3, Coach thompson called a timeout and designed a play that got the ball to Timohty who nailed a three for his 30th point and tied the game. Tywain McKee then pushed the ball but was stuffed on the other end by Randy Hampton. Julius Hearn took the ball the other way for an easy layup and after another Coppin miss and a Theo Livingston 3, Howard hit their free throws and won the game, 79-71.

Afte the game, Adam Brennan caught up with Coach Thompson

Brennan: Coach, this is the Howard rcord 19th win, and wioth 2 more wins, you guys will lcinch the MEAC crown, how big was this game?

Coach Thompson: Adam, it was huge, I think that Coppin is the best game of the year evry year just beacuase of the rivalry and competitiveness, and this year, more than ever.

Brennan: How nervous would you be if the conference tounrament championship ended up with Howard vs Coppin?

ESPN.COM SPECIAL FEATURE

Team Outlook: Howard Bison
Record: 19-8 (10-3)
Conference:MEAC
RPI: 81
Conference RPI:27
Notable Wins: @ Virginia (now #20), Indiana (now #8)
Notable Losses: Winston Salem St (twice)
Coach: Andy Thompson
Projected Seed: 10

The Bison are led by their prolific scoring freshman, Torrance Timothy: http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/11_Torrance_Timothy.jpg
Timothy is averaging 20.3 PPG this year, which leads the MEAC in scoring and is good for 4th in the nation.

Jeron Smith, the only senior on the team is averaging 6.1 PPG and is the most looked to captain on the team. Smith set the Howard record for most points in a game, with 35 against UMBC, but that mark was later eclipsed by Torrance Timothy's 37 against Norfolk St. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/CTS_20071103_0592.jpg

Eugene Myatt is the 2nd team captain as a junior, averaging 7.2 PPG, and is 3rd on the team in rebounding, with 3.7 RPG. Myatt was the leading scorer for the Bison last year but has gladly stepped into a supporting role this year.http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/33_Eugene_Myatt_2.jpg

Another one of the fantastic freshman for the Bison is Theo Livingston, averaging 8.1 PPG. Livingston is shooting 47.1% from beyond the arc, which is 2nd in the country. Livingston also has been great in the clutch, hitting 3 game-winning shots thus far in the season. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/31_Theo_Livingston.jpg

Randy Hampton, the 2nd junior captain is a starting forward for the Bison and is reliable as a passer and shooter. Hampton is averaging 3.5 Assists per game and has a 48% FG percentage on the year. Hampton is also leading the team with a 4:1 assist to turnover ratio. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/10_Randy_Hampton.jpg

A 6'8" sophomore, Kandi Mucole is the starting center for the Bison and is leading the team in rebounds, with 7.9 a game, which is good for 2nd in the MEAC. Mucole is from Brussels, Belgium but played hugh school ball in Atlanta where he became Atlanta Adverist's all-time leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker in only 2 years. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/IMG_8753.jpg

Nate Cooper provides valuable depth to the front line as a center or forward. Cooper is 2nd on the team inr ebounding, averaging 6.1 RPG. He also scores about 4 points a game and leads the team in blocks per game with 2.7. In only his freshamn year, the Howard fans are excited about his future. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/32_Nate_Cooper.jpg

Julius Hearn runs the point for the Bison and is avergaing 3.2 PPg and 6.9 APG, which is tied for 4th in the nation and is .3 APG behind Tywain McKee of Coopin St in the MEAC leaders. As a sophomore, the transistion from 2 guard to point for Hearn has been a smooth one, as he has become one of the best point guards in the MEAC. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/14_Julius_Hearn.jpg

Curtis White, a 6'0" combo guard from Indianapolis is a solid shooter and slasher coming off the bench for the Bison. White was the 2nd leading scorer for Howard last year, and he has kept up his form off the bench, averaging 10.1 PPG, but could be averaging double figures more quietly than any other Bison player, as his seaosn high is 16 points.http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/CTS_20071127_0261.jpg

Dominique Davis is the bakcup point guard for the Bison and the 5'11" Junior has also succesfully made the transistion from 2 guard to point as Davis is averaging 2.9 APG in limited playing time and made two game-winning free throws earlier in the season. http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/25_Dominique_Davis.jpg

Anthony Thomas is another burly big man for the Bison, and the 6'7" Forward/Center is prone to fouls, averaging 2.9 FPG, but is a great rebounder and shot blocker and provides depth in case of foul trouble or injury.

Coach Andy Thompson, only 25 has done an amzing job with this group, who had only won 15 games the past 2 seasons, and now talk of an at-large bid even looms in burr Gymnasium because of the marquee wins this team has put up.

HAMPTON (16-12) (8-5) VS HOWARD (19-8) (11-3)
BURR GYMNASIUM
In front of a sellout crowd, the Bison came out flat, as they went 0-11 from beyond the arc and only shot 21% in the 1st half. Part of the low percentage was the number fo turnovers they were casuing though. Julius Hearn, Dominique Davis, Torrance Timothy and Curtis White all had 4 steals at the half, and Timothy led all scorers with 12. Even with the horrible shooting, Howard was only losing 34-27.

The 2nd half was back and forth throughout, as Torrance Timothy had a great half, scoring 19 points, and Jeron Smith recorded 5 more thefts, bringing his total to 10, but Hampton was not going to quit. The Pirates went 6 for 6 in the final 2-minute stretch and recorded their 17th win of the year, 71-63.

After the loss, Delray Harvin caught up with Coach Thompson.

Harvin: Coach, this one is painful, how do you think the team will bounce back?

Stats:
Torrance Timothy: 31 pts, 6 stls

NC A+T (13-14) (7-8) Vs HOWARD (19-9) (11-4)
BURR GYMNASIUM
Looking for their 20th win of the year, The Bison came out strong in this matchup of the 2 highest-scoring MEAC teams. Torrance Timothy was shut out in the first half, his first game with no points going into the break, but his teammates stepped up. After a relatively quiet game against Hampton, Theo Livingston, who Coach Thompson calls "The team's X Factor" was 5-7 form 3PT range and had a grand total of 17 points, which was his season high for a first half. Kandi Mukole recorded his 7th double-double of the year just in the first half, with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The Aggies form North Carolina just couldn't find an answer as Howard was leading 42-20.

The 2nd half was more of the same, as Livingston and Mukole kept up their brilliance and after recording his 7th assist with 6 minuts left, Burr Gymnasium was buzzing with the possibility of Mukole getting his first career triple-double and only the 3rd Bison triple-double ever. Torrance Timothy found his stroke and added 15 pointsto the scoring fest. Josh Rush was the only bright spot for NC A+T, scoring 26 points for the losing team in this battle. Mukole's bid for a triple-double was short lived as he finsihed with 8 assists, as the Bison picked up their 20th season win, 90-61.

After the game, Adam Brennan had a few rods with Coach Thompson.

Brennan: Coach, first off, congrats on the 20 wins!

Coach Thompson: Thanks Adam, really means alot to me and this program for that big 2 and the big 0 put together.

Brennan: Coach, Timothy was shut out in the first half, but this was probably the best team scoring effort of the year with Mukole getting close to a triple-double and Theo Livingston scoring a career-high 28 points, do you think thsi can keep up?

Coach Thompson: This was an amazing team effort, and I really hope it can continue. I'd just like to thank all the Bison fans and students for their ongoing support and this season has been amazing.

Stats:
Theo Livingston: 29 pts, 3 stls (7-10 from 3PT) CAREER HIGH IN POINTS!

Lol. I'm hoping to play a couple more games before I get off. Just keep doing the write-ups so I have something to read xD.

EDIT: Oh Yeah:

CONGRATS ON YOUR 20TH WIN!!!!! -throws confetti everywhere-

Yep, its pretty sweet, but If you read a while ago, my goal is 23 wins, because then I think an at-larghe can come my way if enough bad teams are on the bubble, my RPI is 79 now, just keeps goin up and up. I'm also #8 in mid-major poll, and 5 of the top 8 are in top 25, so I think I have a good chance

NORFOLK ST. (13-16) (10-7) VS HOWARD (20-9) (12-4)
BURR GYMNASIUM
In a rematch of maybe the best MEAC game all year, the Spartans jummped out to an early lead, going on an 11-2 run in the first 3 minutes, but Torrance timothy, Theo Livingston and Randy Hampton knocked down consecutive 3'sto tie the game up, and from then on, it was the familiar seesaw battle. Tony Murphy was denied the ball, fouled and trapped and did not score a first half field goal, only 3 out of 4 free throws. Torrance Timothy was th leading scorer with 11, and Kandi Mukole had 3 fouls, along with Nate Cooper's 2. The Bison and Spartans were tied 30-30 at the break.

In the 2nd half, Cooper picked up his 3rd and 4th fouls, and after Mukole picked up his 4th, Anthony Thomas was the lone non foul-hampered big man left for the Bison. Eugene Myatt and Jeron Msith became the leaders for this team along with Rnayd Hampton as all 3 of the captains scored at least 10 points in the 2nd period. Tony Murphy broke out for 7 straight points for Norfolk, but Coach Thompson's stellar defensive setup kept him socreless for the rest of the game. Thomas was also excellent for the Bison, as he added 7 points and 6 rebounds. With 1:57 left, Myatt was fouled and hit a 14 footer to give the Bison a 4-point lead. The free throw made it 5, and after knocking down foul shots, Howard clinched the MEAC with an 80-73win.

Coach Thompson and his players were quickly taken off the court to avoid the bedlam in Burr. Confetti was flying and afterward, the players and coaches came out with MEAC championship gear and Coach Thompson spoke to the fans about how much their support and excitement had helped out the team.

Stats:
Eugene Myatt: 21 pts, 7 rebs
Anthony Thomas: 7 pts, 6 rebs, 2 blks
Torrance Timothy: 18 pts
Randy Hampton: 13 pts
Jeron Smith: 10 pts, 4 stls

HAMPTON (17-14) (9-7) VS HOWARD (21-9) (13-4)
BURR GYMNASIUM
On senior night, Coach Thompson gave Jeron Smith the start and put him at point guard for Julius Hearn, and he showed that he deserved it. Scoring the Bison's first 6 points, then making 3 consecutive assists to Torrance Timothy, Smith was responsible for the team's first 14 points. For the rest of the half, the Bison dominated with Timothy, Theo Livingston and Randy Hampton knocking down any shot they took. Timothy had 17, Livingston had 13 and Hampton had 11 to go with Smith's 9. The Bison had their highest scoring output of the year after 1 half, leading, 60-32.

The 2nd half was more fo the same as Timothy added in another 19, Livingston obtained yet another career high, scoring 20 2nd half points, and Smith finished the agem strong, with 8 points in the 2nd period. Hampton just didn't have it as they were held to a 31% shooting percentage, completely opposite of Howard's 71% from the field. Ending the season on a positive note, the Bison won their 22nd game of the year, 96-60.

Adam Brennan caught up with Coach Thompson after the game.

Brennan: Coach, big 22nd win, how do you like the team's chances in the confernce tourney?

Coach Thompson: We're playing the winner of the 8-9 matchup, which is Winston-Salem State and Florida A&M, who are both good teams. Winston-Salem beat us twice, so I'm kinda nervous about that one, but I'm nervous before every game.

Brennan: The tournament is in Raleigh, and if NC A+T gets to play you, do you think it might be more difficult?

Coach Thompson: I don't know Adam, every game's tough, and that could go for them or against them by putting the pressure on them.

Next Up: HOWARD (22-9) (14-4) VS WINSTON SALEM St./FLORIDA A&M: MEAC Tournament, RBC Center: Raliegh, North Carolina

MORGAN ST. (21-11) VS HOWARD (24-9)
RBC Center
The Bears were simply outmatched by the stromin' stampede form Howard, as Torrance Timothy and Theo Livingston kept up their amazing tournament form, as Timothy put in 13 points, and Livingston added 11 in the first half. Howard was rolling on all cylinders, shooting 8-12 from beoynd the arc in the half, with Eugene Myatt, Randy Hampton, Kandi Mukole and Anthony Thomas being unusual deep snipers. Nate Cooper was held scoreless but had a seaosn high 5 blocks and a solid 7 rebounds in the half. The Bison led 41-29.

The 2nd half became a battle for the most meaningfuul thing that these guys had played for all season: the automatic bid. Morgan State didn't win 21 games for nothing and they wanted to show that in the 2nd half. Coach Todd Bozeman's press made Howard turn the ball over on 5 straight posessions and the BEars took a 4 point lead with 3:10 left. Torrance Timothy and Theo Livingston had both only scored one basket in the 2nd half, but everyone in the RBC Center knew that they were due for a burst. Timothy showed why he was named the MEAC Tournament MVP as he scored 11 of the team's last 18 points, with Livingston adding in the 7. Timothy finished with 30 points, bringing his tournament average to 29.6 The Bison had yet another confernce victory party, as the final seconds ticked down with Bison faithful chanting N-I-T to the Morgan State team. The final score was a fulfilling 82-7525th victory for Coach Thompson's team.

After the celebrations, Quint Kessenich, who was covering the game for ESPN, talked to Coach Thompson.

Kessenich: Coach, Quint Kessenich from ESPN, how does it feel getting that automatic bid?

Coach Thompson: Quint, it's great. As the game crept closer and closer today, the more I thought it would be impossible for us to get an at-large bid, so I'm about as happy as anyone right now.

Kessenich: Where do you think you should be seeded, Coach?

Coach Thompson: Really, I don't care what seed, these kids have worked so long and hard for this and I hope people can realize how good this team is. They hear Howard and they think, oh well they're just a small-school team with a good record. But I think we can become the next George Mason, we've beaten big teams this year, and we have a go-to-guy every night in Torrance Timothy like they had and we have a great supporting cast. If we play like we can, we can go a long way.

Kessenich: I always love long answers. Thanks Coach, and good luck

NEXT: HOWARD (25-9) will have their seeding in the NCAA Tournament announced. They are projected as a 10-12 range seed.

8 ST. MARY'S (19-12) VS 9 HOWARD (24-9)
NCAA 1ST ROUND GAME
With their highest seeds ever, both teams were excited coming into this 1st round matchup and it was worth all the hype. The Bison from Howard came out of the gates and flat out dominated. With Kandi Mukole having one of his beest halves of the year, Dione Simpson had 2 fouls in 2 minutes. The other standout for the Gaels, Patrick Mills was leading the team singlehandedly. Mills scored 15 1st half points, and chants of "Patty, Patty" were circling in the Gaels fans' section. The score at halftime favored Howard, 41-29.

With Simpson coming back in, the West Coast champions were poised top make a run as Simpson and Mills ran their game and no one on the Bison could stop them. when Simpson picked up his 3rd foul, he stayed in, but Torrance Timothy, who had been quiet, stepped up and started driving staright at Simpson. With 3:01 left, and the Gaels down 2, Simpson had 4 fouls. Patrick Mills had the ball stolen from him 3 straight possesions by Timothy and the Gaels big man had to come back in. Saint Mary's came all the way back to tie the game with 31 seconds left and the Bison were going to hold the ball for a last shot. Coach Thompson was going ballistic and almost called a 7th timeout he didn't have. Theo Livingston set up the offense and with 5 seconds left, Eugene Myatt hit a mid-range jumper and was fouled by Simpson. After missing the free throw, Patrick Mills pushed the ball and was fouled on a layup with 0.2 seconds left by Jeron Smith. Mills hit the first and the second shot rimmed out, giving Howard the win and the Bison advance to play Georgetown. The low representation of Bison fans in Anahiem made the victory feel less achieving for the Howard players. The final score was 78-77.

Stats:
Torrance Timothy: 14 pts, 6 stls
Kandi Mukole: 18 pts, 13 rebs

St. Mary's:
Patrick Mills: 27 pts, 5 asts

#9 HOWARD (26-9) VS #1 GEORGETOWN (30-5)
NCAA TOURNAMENT 2ND ROUND GAME
After their emotional 1st round win, the Bison were no match for the Roy Hibbert-led Hoyas. Hibbert scored 22 1st half points and Jonathan Wallace added 14 for the Hoyas in the opening period. Torrance Timothy and Theo Livingston were the only players who scored for Howard, each with 15 points. Georgetown was leading at the half, 59-30.

The 2nd half was the same story, as Hibbert added 16 more over the undersized Bison big men and Jonathan Wallace was 4-4 from beyond the arc. The Bison literally had injury added to insult as Theo Livingston went down with a bruised shoulder. The 2nd half was more balanced for Howard, as even though Torrance Timothy dropped 19, every Bison player scored, and in his last game, Jeron Smith scored 11 in the losing effort, 91-72.

Stats:
Torrance Timothy: 34 pts

G'TOWN:
Roy Hibbert: 38 pts, 21 rebs
Jonathan Wallace:27 pts, 6 asts

Coach Thompson was interviewed by Billy Packer after the season-ending loss.

Packer: Coach, I'd just like to say, great season.

Coach Thompson: Thanks Billy, it's an honor coming from you.

Packer: With only one senior leaving, do you predict a similiar season next year?

Coach Thompson: I really hope so, Billy, and if you could excuse me, I'm going to go speak to my players about their great season.

HOWARD SEASON RECAP

Gametime React on Fox Sports Radio with JT The Brick and Tom Looney

JT: What's up America, I am pumped about tonight's show, as always our college basketball preview show is my favorite of the year. Tonight we have a star-studded group of coaches we're gonna interview, including Bruce Pearl, who is leading the #1 Vols into this year, we got Coach K, Thad Matta, Todd Lickliter of Iowa, the former Butler coach, Brad Stevens, the current Butler coach, Bruce Weber, who's Illinois team is due for a breakout seaosn. We have Keno Davis from Drake, Randy Monroe from UMBC and Andy Thompson from Howard. Looney, tell us about Thompson cause he's our first guest tonight. Also guys, you can call in with your questions for these guys.

Looney: Thanks for the illustrious intro JT. Coach Thomspon led the Howard Bison to a MEAC championship and a first-round win against St. Mary's with a 25-10 record in his first year. Here he is, on the phone with us.

JT: Hey coach, hows it going?

Coach Thompson: Good JT, no, great, excited ofr the season and a great honor to be on with you.

JT: Thanks coach, hey, what do you expect this season from your two super super sophomores, Theo Livingston and Torrance Timothy?

Coach Thompson: Well, JT, I expect great things, especially Timothy, coming off an all-american season and MEAC player of the year, but watch out for our seniors, Randy Hampton and Eugene Myatt at the forward slots. They have great leadership and can really take over games.

JT: Hey coach, we're gonna get some callers to ask you about the season. Hey Mark on Baltimore 1300, what's up?

Mark: Nothing much JT. Coach, do you think you can get these guys into the top 25? You have 3 preseason votes.

Coach Thompson: Really, that's great. I think if we can beat some of the big teams we play, we could make some noise. We have a great starting core and a great bench too.

Looney: Coach, I have a question for you. Do you think your inside game can really support you? Your starting center is only 6'8" and a natural power forward. Do you think it can hold up?

Coach Thompson: Well Looney, Kandi Mukole, the guy who you're talking about, average 6.6 PPG and 8.1 RPG last year, so I'm not worried about him, and we added a 7'2" freeshman who will add great depth to the frontcourt.

JT: Well coach, thanks for coming on, good luck this year.

Coach Thompson: Thanks JT, and thanks to all the listeners and to Looney. Go Bison!

JT: Hey America, Howard is a team to watch this year. IT was said first by me, JT The Brick on FSR Gametime React.

LETTER TO THE FANS

Hello All,

We have a very exciting season on our hands, and I just want to give all the great people who support our team a look-in onto the upcoming season. In the first mid-major poll, we were voted as #11, but I plan to increase that number to the top 5, mark that as one of my goals. Also, after last year's dominating MEAC performance, another one of my goals is to repeat as regular season and tournament champions. In win # and such, out of our 33 games, I hope our team can win at least 27. Also, I hope that we can advance to the 2K Sports Classic 2nd round, which would bring our total amount of games to 35, the highest of any small conference school. Now, here's your 2008-09 Bison:

Starting Lineup:
At Point Guard, we have a change this year. Even though Julius Hearn had a great season, I was impressed with this player's poise and creating ability throughout the year. You Bison starting point guard is Theo Livingston:
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/31_Theo_Livingston.jpg

At 2 Guard, we have our returning MVP, MEAC player of the year, NCAA Freshman Of The Year, and Howard's first ever All-American. Poised for a season for the ages, Torrance Timothy:
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/11_Torrance_Timothy.jpg

At the forward slots, we have our two Senior captains, who will be the glue that keeps this team together. Their leadership, poise and desire to win will be what makes this team great. Your Bison starting forwards are Captians, #10 Randy Hampton and #33 Eugene Myatt:
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/10_Randy_Hampton.jpg
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/33_Eugene_Myatt_2.jpg

At Center, we have our returning rebounding leader, who does some of the best dirty work in the country. With an 8 RPG year last year, his experience this year should make him a force to be reckoned with inside. Your Bison starting center is Captain, #1, the import from Belgium, Kandi Mukole: http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/IMG_8753.jpg

Our newcomers our Chris Atkinson and Sammy Morris. Atkinson is from the JuCo program that produced Bambale Osby, Maryland's starting center last year. The program is located in Paris, TX and has been in the national JuCo title the last three years. As a freshman, Atkinson averaged 15.4 PPG and led the team in SPG with 5.2. Atkinson played with Randy Hampton in high school. Chris Atkinson is your newest Bison:
http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm83/boomosby50/sims.jpg

Sammy Morris is a 7'2" stud who played at Georgetown Prep in DC, but was originally from Davenport, IA. Morris was one of the top prospects in the country in his sophomore year, but after a freak broken leg injury, he almost dissapeared. Transferring from Oak Hill, where he was supposed to play his junior and senior years, Morris became a go-to-guy for G-Town Prep, and we jumped on him the first chance we could get. Your lone Bison freshman, Sammy Morris:

WICHITA STATE VS HOWARD
2K Sports College Hoops Classic-Gampel Pavilion

In the first game of the season for both of the teams, the crowd was not leaning towards either side in Connecticut, and that made this game a classic. Coach Thomspon was quoted "Last year, these teams would beat us, but this year we're better, stronger and older. We'll get em." The Shockers from Wichita came out "on fire" (HAHAHA). The Shockers freshman duo of Ty Reddick and Deron Antonio at the guard slots accounted for Wichita's first 17 points, but Howard's confidence helped them take the lead in this high-scoring first half, 51-42, with Torrance Timothy leading the team in scoring with 14, and Theo Livingston chipping in with 12, along with Sammy Morris in his first collegiate game.

The 2nd half became close as can be, with Wichita St. going on an 11-0 run to start the half, but every basket they made, the Bison had an answer for. The first 4 minutes of the 2nd half saw no shots missed, and 4 players reaching 20 points, 2 for each team. From then on, the scoring continued, and this looked to be the highest-scoring game of Coach Thomspon's tenure. With 1:24 left, and the game tied, Chris Atkinson hit a JJ Redick-esque shot from 30 feet as the shot clock expired, and the Bison had a 97-94 lead. Deron Antonio brough the ball up and Atkinson made a senior-liek play, stealing the ball from Antonio and feeding Torrance Timothy down the court, who hit another 3, giving Howard their first ever 100-point game. After a rejection by Nate Cooper on Wichita's Ty Reddick, the Bison hit their free throws to win this one, 106-96.

Adam Brennan talked to the senior captian, Eugene Myatt, who had 16 points in the scoring fest.

Brennan: Eugene, team looked good tonight, huh?

Myatt: Yeah we did, but Coach drilled us about our defense. I can't imagine what practice will be like if we play the same way tommorow, but we were on fire!

Brennan: On that note, do you think this team has improved, or was tonight just a good night?

Myatt: Both, we added Atkinson, whos an amazing shooter, and over the summer, everyone was getting together and playing at gyms, camps and playgrounds. There's something about this team that's different than the others. We just want it more this year, and it's an amzing feeling.

Brennan: Thanks Eugene.

Myatt: No problem, Addo man.

Stats:
Torrance Timothy: 36 pts, 4 stls
Theo Livingston: 26 pts, 6 asts
Chris Atkinson: 15 pts (5-6 from 3PT) 5 stls
Eugene Myatt: 16 pts, 7 rebs

Wichita St.:

BOISE ST. (1-0) VS HOWARD (1-0)
2K Sports Classic-2nd Round Regional

In this game, the Bison kept up their stellar scoring ways, led by the "super sophs" Torrance Timothy and Theo Livingston and the newly-dubbed "fantastic frehies" Sammy Morris and Chris Atkinson. The 4 players all scored in double-figures and senior captain Eugene Myatt added in 8, followed by Randy Hampton's 5 and Julius Hearn recorded 7 dimes in only 4 minutes of play. That stat was basically the stat of the first half, as the score was 58-34 in favor of the Bison.

The 2nd half was the same story for Howard who looked for a similiar percentage to their 82% from the field in the first half. The results was not quite the same, but pretty darn good anyway. Coach Thompson's crew shot 52% from the field and 100% from the charity stripe, but the Broncos would not go back to Idaho without their dignity (that sounds funny). Boise went on a 21-2 run to end the game, and the final score was still in Howard's favor by a deceiving 90-72 score, as Howard just dominated this one from the tip.

ESPN'S Erin Andrews spoke with Coach Thompson after the huge win.

Andrews: Coach, this is a big win as you guys go on to face the winner of the Gonzaga-Davidson game. Either way, the game will be tough, won't it?

Coach Thompson: Well, yes Erin it will be. Gonzaga has guys like Pargo, Heytvelt and Daye, and Davidson has Stephen Curry who is a scoring machine.

Andrews: Coach, Providence is on your schedule and they just beat #1 Tennessee by 15, are your players intimitated by the Friars, do you think?

Coach Thompson: Well, Erin, I'm not gonna say "we want them" because I'd rather have an easier win, but these are the games that show if we are as good as we think we are. We never look past the next game, and we're not now. All they have is a numebr next to their name, and they beat a team with a number by 15. Though they are great, on the court, every team is the same whether its Duke vs UNC or NJIT vs Longwood. No numebrs matter on the hardwood. You play for the name on the front of the jersey, and not a number in fornt of that name.

Andrews: Very well said Coach, thanks for your time.

Stats:
Torrance Timothy: 31 pts, 4 stls (6-9 from 3PT)
Theo Livingston: 25 pts, 8 asts
Eugene Myatt: 14 pts
Sammy Morris: 19 pts, 8 rebs
Chris Atkinson: 22 pts, (5-7 from 3PT), 6 stls, 4 asts
Julius Hearn: 5 pts, 13 asts

boomosby50
April 10th, 2008, 01:41 PM
MOUNT ST. MARY'S (1-1) VS HOWARD (2-0)
BURR GYMNASIUM

This game was the closest for either team this year, and the lowest-scoring for Howard, but it wasn't very competitive from the get-go. Torrance Timothy was the main scorer in the opening half for the Bison, with 13. Coach Thompson was pleased by his team's early performance, talking with Adam Brennan at the half with the score in The Bison's favor, 37-24.

Brennan: Coach, how do you think your guys are playing?
Coach Thompson: Well Adam, our defense has been great, shutting down last year's NEC player of the year in Jeremy Goode, as he's only hit a free throw so far. Our shooting isn't lights-out like the last few games, but that just turns off and on, and you have to find other ways to win.
Brennan: Good luck in the 2nd half, Coach.

It looked like Howard needed the luck in the start of the 2nd half, with Mount going on a 14-2 run to bring the gap to 1, but Torrance Timothy and Chris Atkinson got their outside shot on, hitting 7 staright 3's between them, and down by 21, Mount had no more comebacks in them. Timothy ended with 32 points, and Atkinson added in 13. For Mount, Goode had 18 second half points, bringing his total to 19. The final score was 81-68.

Stats:
Torrance Timothy: 32 pts
Chris Atkinson: 12 pts
Julius Hearn: 5 asts
Kandi Mukole: 4 pts, 11 rebs

Mount St. Mary's
Jeremy Goode: 19 pts, 7 asts, 3 stls

NEXT UP: HOWARD (3-0) will take on Davidson, whose current record is 3-0 as well.
Davidson is led by Stephen Curry, who is averaging 35 PPG so far. The Bison have a scorer of their own in Torrance Timothy, who is averaging 32.3 PPG. This should be another high-scoring shootout for a spot in the 2K Sports College Hoops Classic Tournament Final

hey everyone, quick question. I wanna see what you guys like in terms of mid-major schools, cuz I've been to alot, and I wanna make it enjoyable as possible once I leave (probly not after this year) So I could go to a school alot of you guys like. Just post up here and tell me if you have a prference. Right now I think I'll wait until the 4th year, when Livingston, Timothy and Atkinson graduate. And also, call me crazy but I think Morris could go pro after his JR year. He's like 71 now, and has A potential, so he might grow like 6 points a year, he could be in low 80's in JR year, and Ive had guys jump with similiar situations

DAVIDSON (3-0) VS HOWARD (3-0)
2K SPORTS COLLEGE HOOPS CLASSIC SEMIFINALS

THis game pitted the top two scorers in the nation, both with about 33 PPG, and that average increased tonight for both of them. For Howard, the scorer was Torrance Timothy. Timothy scored The Bison's first 9 points, but it seemed that Davidson's Stephen Curry had an answer every time. Sammy Morris was guarding Lovedale for Howard, in place of the injured Kandi Mukole, who will be out for at least 2 months. Morris was held scoreless and reboundless by Lovedale, and the Nigerian-born center for the Wildcats was second on his team in scoring in the 1st half with 7 points, but the main show was Timothy and Curry. Timothy was 6 of 9 from long range, and Curry had a total of 19 points at the half to go with Timothy's 24, and the score was tied at 45-45.

The 2nd half was even more of a shootout, as Randy Hampton and Chris Atkinson got hot for the Bison, and Andrew Lovedale just couldn't be stopped inside. Even with the weakness inside, Stephen Curry and Torrance Timothy flat out took over the game. Timothy had 25 more, bringing his total to 49, a new career high, Howard record and a MEAC record. His heroics were probably overshadowed by Curry's shots as the game concluded. Dell's pride was trying to get his 2nd 40-point game of his career, the Wildcats were down two with 3 seconds left. With 37 points, Curry took a desperation three to try to tie the game, and he was fouled by Theo Livingston on the shot. Going to the line for 3 free throws, Curry hit the first and missed the second, so with 1 second to go, he had to intenitonally miss. The ball came right back tohim, but he never got a shot off. Curry looked cocky at the line and Hwoard picked up the win, 91-89.

Coach Thompson was unavailable for comment as the 2nd game between #24 Maryland and #16 Marquette was starting late.

Stats:
Torrance Timothy: 49 pts
Chris Atkinson: 17 pts
Randy Hampton: 13 pts, 8 rebs
Sammy Morris: 2 pts, 1 reb (FOULED OUT)

Davidson:
Stephen Curry: 38 pts, (10-17 from 3PT)
Andrew Lovedale: 15 pts, 16 rebs

Well thats a good choice then (St Joes). I am at Long Island and dominated the 2nd season there at 30-4. I am a #6 seed in the tourney but i havent started yet. I plan on either leaving after this season or after 1 more season since My starting PG and SG will be seniors in teh 3rd season and my centers that i like will be sophs, but its not fun when all u got is 2 centers and no guards. i also hate the NEC so i guess i have to wait to see how it all rolls out.

I think good Mid Major conferences are the A10, WAC and Mountain West. I think if i get an offer from New Mexico, i will go there, but again it depends on who you get offers from. those 3 conferences have good competition so those are the 3 i am hoping to get an offer from

#16 MARQUETTE (4-0) VS HOWARD (4-0)
2K Sports College Hoops Classic-Finals

This game pitted great guards going at each other, with the Eagles putting Dominic James and Jerel McNeal up against the Bison's backcourt of Theo Livingston and Torrance Timothy. On paper, Marquette had the matchup, but Coach Thompson didn't want his guys caught up in that. This time the paper won. The Golden Eagles went out to an early 21-6 lead, led by James' 4 assists and Lazar Hayward's inside play. As the half went on, the lead got even biggerbut Howard made a late run, and the score at the break was 52-36.

The 2nd half was no different as Marquette dominated inside and out. Torrance Timothy again paced the Bison with 19 points, but James and Hayward kept pouring it on. James finished with 15 pts and 11 assists and Hayward had 24 points and 15 rebounds. The final score was 91-65.

Coach Thompson was again unavailable for comment after the game.

Stats:
Torrance Timothy: 19 pts
