View Full Version : Chris Nelson's Official MLB 2K8 (Xbox 360) Roster Update Thread

ChrisJNelson

Updated with Version 5, April 21!

Link: http://consolesports.net/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,86/func,fileinfo/id,31/

I believe this roster to be quite possibly the most accurate and up-to-date roster available for MLB 2K8 on the Xbox 360. I have put in many hours into correcting information for all the players as well as fixing each team's roster. I will be updating this roster throughout the season, so be sure to check back at ConsoleSports.net every Monday for the newest and up-to-date roster for MLB 2K8!

Version 5 (released April 21, 2008)

This is v5 of my roster update. Changes/additions since v4 include:

• Accurate 25-man MLB rosters as of April 21.
• Accurate AAA rosters as of April 21. If you notice any mistakes, odds are they are intentional and are being used to fill an incomplete roster, so see the Restricted Lists text document included in the zip for more details.
• It’s a busy time for me with the semester ending soon, so I was only able to get two AA teams done. For this update, I’ve completed the Cubs (Tennessee Smokies) and White Sox (Birmingham Barons). For other AA teams I’ve done, see the lists of changes in previous updates above.
• Other various tweaks and fixes.

Sorry again about the slow pace at which the AA teams are being completed, but I’ve just been busy lately. My goal is to do a team a day from this point on, which would get them all done in around three weeks. Thanks for understanding.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, feel free to contact me. I have no objections to comments about player ratings, suggestions or requests for new prospects, and so on. I can be reached at cnelson13@gmail.com and also on AIM at ChrisJNelson13.

JULY 7th INFO ChrisJNelson UPDATE:
Long time no see, guys. Sorry I've been away so long. While I have been busy, I will admit it's been very irresponsible of me to not take the time to type out an explanation and update for you. So here it is.

I suppose the good news is that I am in fact alive, haha. The bad news is that I will not be releasing any more rosters for MLB 2K8. There are a few reasons for this. The primary reason is that summer classes and a summer fling causes me to fall quite behind on my updating. Unfortunately for you guys, a single Chris is a lot better for doing rosters than a taken Chris. The problem is, once you fall a few weeks behind, it becomes hours and hours of work to catch back up. (Especially with the minor league teams.)

Lately, I've just been too busy to keep up with all that work and the roster is so far behind now I'll never get around to updating it. It also is difficult because I've never really liked this game and don't play it much at all. In fact, it hasn't been in my 360 for about a month and is about to be traded in toward NCAA 09. So I just do not have the time or motivation right now.

That being the case, I'm sorry to disappoint all of you that were looking forward to a full season of updates from me. I can say that I'll definitely be doing Madden updates if EA gives me enough wiggle room in the roster-editing department, and I'm sure I'll do MLB 2K9 rosters. I'll also do a better job of not falling behind and thus not stopping updates altogether.

Sorry again, and thanks for understanding guys.

Chris, this year it would nice to base your rosters off of the openeing day rosters so u wont have to worry about the pa announcers calling the foreign players by the generic names. They have to play at least one game. Just a suggestion. Its kind of weird seeing the real name and the hearing something else.

I really prefer not dtarting my season or franchise until after opening day anyway. Use march to get used to the game and all the features.

with the 360 data transfer kit and a memory card. it's the only way, but with how bad 2k butchered the rosters this year, it's really the only choice if you're planning on buying this game. unless you want to edit the rosters entirely by yourself of course.

SteelCityPhils6: You have to download the roster update from him, transfer it to your flash drive, transfer that to your hard drive on the 360 and put in the the MLB 2K7 game saves folder. I'm sure he will have instructions on his site when its up.

I've been reading that if you use someone else's game saves your account can be banned from xbox live. Apparently they have little hidden codes attached to them and when you go on xbox live your account will get banned. Is this true?

Also, what method did you guys use for data transfer? did you use Xsata or just a flash drive like the other guy said or something else entirely.

This is true, although there is a way around it. Nelson will probably explain it at a later date.

In NCAA 08 this was the case. What you did was use the profile attached with the save. You then load the rosters and sign out of that profile, sign in to your profile, and save the rosters. It will save to your profile so then you can delete the other profile and the other game save.

It is very dumb, it has something to do with cheating on achievments or some crap, and really no one cares about achievment points and gamerscore anyway!:thumbsdow

JWJKP
February 25th, 2008, 08:16 PM
ah...yea, that's stupid. Gamer points, at least to me, are only of importance to the person who owns the account. Sort of a way to track your gaming .... if you want to cheat on that, that's your own issue....Its not like they have any value...

Microsoft needs to lay off on the banning thing

This is a standard message I am sending to everyone that has inquired due to the volume of messages I have received.

Thanks for your interest in my rosters. My plan is to release a very rough version of he roster within a week or so. Essentially, all it will contain are a lot of player re-namings, position moves and stuff like that. It won't have a lot of created players, won't have equipment fixes, and will probably contain some mistakes.

My plan is to have v2 of the roster come out on Opening Day like I did last year. That one will have all the 25-man rosters for the MLB teams correct. From there, I will work on the minor league teams beginning with AAA and working my way down. Since it is my first time doing the minor league teams, I cannot guess how long it is going to take. Full completion of the 90 minor league teams could take a few months though. Right now, the priority is the MLB teams.

Again, thank you for your interest in my project. I will post on each of my threads at various website forums whenever I have news, and all roster updates will be hosted once again at ConsoleSports.net.

Thanks,
Chris

This sounds like a good idea, if they actually will update the player names on the opening day rosters. I'd rather use 2K's rosters if Kosuke ***udome's name is added to the game, rather than hearing "Fortunowa" or whatever, if Chris's rosters are updated only from the out of box rosters.

EDIT: I guess ***udome is a bad word. Ha.

ATTENTION: If you downloaded my roster soon after it was uploaded and it wasn't working, please try again.

The problem arose because you cannot transfer files across gamer profiles. However, there IS a fix for this and I have re-uploaded an updated roster that will work. What you will need to do is open the included ReadMe document and follow the loading instructions. Sorry for the inconvenience, and contact me if you have any problems.

The plan for v2's release:

Hey guys, as you know v2 of my roster is supposed to come out tomorrow. Depending on how things go with the transactions today, I might be able to get the roster out tomorrow morning. It really depends on how quickly teams finalize their Opening Day 25-man rosters. If it's not all done by early tomorrow, then I probably won't get a roster out until late Monday night or Tuesday because I'm going to be tailgating and going to the Braves game tomorrow.

Either way though, it will be out by Tuesday at the latest so be sure to check back here for info on the release!

1. Did you change any ratings and stances to make them more accurate?

2. And is there any way for you to upload more player portraits? I know alot of us are annoyed at all the generic faces. Like Joba, Ryan Braun, Pence, Soto, Pie, Hamilton, and many more.

UPDATE ON THE RELEASE OF v2:

I finished the roster yesterday and uploaded it to www.consolesports.net. Unfortunately, the guy that runs the site is visiting EA for an NHL 09 community event. I have emailed him and hopefully he'll publish it soon, but until then there's nothing I can do. I also am not going to send it to anyone via email, because I don't want some people getting it before others and I can't spend all my time sending it out via email. So please be patience and keep checking back here and at ConsoleSports. I'll post when it is published. Thanks.

A few ratings but that wasn't my focus for this roster. I'll do more of that later. No stances yet either. Feel free to email me some if you notice some that should be changed.

Chris, I DL'd v2 of your rosters and followed your instructions to the letter. I had ZERO problems getting the rosters moved to my 360.

The rosters were right on and accurate. I appreciate all the work and am happy to have started my KC franchise over after starting 0-10 with the original rosters. I am now 2-2 with KC and 0-1 with their AAA affiliate, my hometown, Omaha Royals.

Great job!!!!

For the Xport, I posted this the other day in a separate thread:

BTW- it is definitely possible to transfer these rosters over using the Xport rather than a memory card + transfer kit. I just slogged my way through it over the last 2 hours (being new to this transfer thing) but figured it out. Once I got oriented to how the Xbox360 file structure works, which the Xport manual was pretty handy for, the biggest (though simple) issue that had me stuck for a while is that the Xport software that came with the Xport is 1.02, whereas 1.07 is available online: http://us.codejunkies.com/support/support_product.aspx?prodID=32. This would not work with 1.02. With the new version installed, you can "Open image" and point to the .z36 file in Chris' zip file and the software will convert this to a .bin file. Then you can browse the contents of the memory card image and find Chris' profile in the Content folder on the 2nd partition (it's the last folder). I copied this profile folder, which contains his MLB 2k8 roster, into the Content folder on the partition 3 of my 360 hard drive. From there, you just follow Chris' loading instructions from the read_me file in his zip, load his profile from the list of profiles on your 360 hard drive, and you're golden.

Update on the release of v3:

While it was originally supposed to be out today (Mon., April 7) I've decided to delay it until tomorrow. But trust me, it will be worth it. The reason for the delay is because I will be able to get ALL the AAA rosters correct if I wait until tomorrow. It's been a much quicker process than I thought, and so far I have Arizona through Pittsburgh done. That leaves me with San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Texas, Toronto and Washington to do. I should get 2-3 done tonight and the rest I'll do tomorrow. So be sure to check back tomorrow and get v3, as it will have updated MLB rosters PLUS newly updated AAA rosters!

Chris - just sent email to your gmail account.

Xport is hardware - let's you transfer direct between your 360 & PC hard drives w/o having to use a memory card, though you can also hook a memory card up to it. It's a good bit more expensive than the Transfer Kit that just lets you use a memory card to transfer - $40 at an ebay store. I haven't used it much but it seems pretty smooth so far.

Well I started a BoSox 'chise since V5 already has AA complete for Boston. But I would be waiting if, say, I wanted to start a Oakland chise, or a Toronto chise. (to answer your question.)

In any case, thanks for all the hard work man!

Especially since AA is done, I could bring up Justin Masterson just like the Red Sox did in real life and he has his real name.

You're the man Chris J. Nelson.

It's good to be able to know you'll provide accurate rosters. (I never hold my breath on 2K roster updates.)

(Nor do I hold my breath in aniticipation of an AI steal. Stealing is against the rules in baseball now... apparently.)

May 13th, 2008, 01:02 PM
Hey guys, I know it's been a while since I've really posted or had a roster update. The thing is, being so busy toward the end of April and into this month, I ended up falling over a week behind on MLB transactions. It took quite a long editing session to even get the MLB rosters back up-to-date again, and the AAA rosters still need to be slightly updated (though most of the right guys are the rest won't be difficult to correct). But because of this, it means I haven't been working on the AA rosters and the ones I have done have also fallen behind.

Basically, my goal is to release a roster next Monday (5/19) with updated MLB and AAA rosters. I should never be busy again during the summer like I was lately, so once I take on the AA teams again it shouldn't be a problem. But I had just fallen so behind it was quite a bit of work just to do the MLB and AAA teams. When you edit daily, it's nothing. But when you let it add up like I did, the work really builds.

The one good thing though, that will at least separates this roster from my previous ones, is that I've gone through and updated a on of MLB ratings based on play thus far and I think they are a lot better. Guys like Cliff Lee (while not rated in the high 90s like his current numbers would indicate) are at least more reasonably rated so they have more potential to play better. Obviously I'm not going to make drastic ratings to anyone based on a month or so of play, but I have made quite a few tweaks and I think they are for the better.

So to summarize, v6 will be out Monday, May 19 and will have updated MLB and AAA teams with ratings updates. I also might get to some AA teams, but regardless they will be priority shortly. Sorry for all the delays.

Chris....no rush man. Your roster's are on point and the thanks that your delaying them for are probably much more important.

No rush man, school and other stuff is more important than roster updates. Plus, it's not like you owe us all anything really. We all appreciate what you are doing and totally respect that you have other priorities.

Sorry for the seemingly endless delay guys. v6 has been uploaded to www.consolesports.net and will probably be published at some point today (5/27). Will post again when it is up.

We'll see what SHE says about that. :D (I'm married 12 years, so I'm not busting your b@lls ... okay, maybe I am a little bit.)

Chris, buddy, you owe us nothing. You provided great rosters and we can make the trades/etc ourselves.

2k8 is one of the easier to edit games/rosters, so it's not difficult at all for people to update a single player's ratings or make a few trades (even forced trades in frnachise mode).

Thanks again. Glad to see you have a life outside of school and roster updates ... I was worried about you for a bit there.

Sup Chris:

First and foremost you have made many users very happy with all your dedication and hardwork you put into your MLB2K custom roster updates. Thanks for the time you spent in trying to help. Look forward to your future 2K devotions if you decide on it.

P.S. I also edited and added your closing statement about your MLB2K8 updates in your initial opening thread post. This way no one can accidently skip past post #77 and continue asking for your status.

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that I will be doing rosters for MLB 2K9. They will be available via the traditional transfer kit method or straight through the game with the new 2K Share feature! I will create an official thread shortly, so check out the forums for that!
