I watched the final episode of Madden Nation today. Have any of you watched it? The one thing I noticed right away was the blank expression on all of the contestants. I could see them playing it even if they weren't on TV. The winner stated that he played Madden 70 hours a week. Holy crap, that's a job. He must live with his parents. Also, I saw how they abused the flaws in the game to move the ball. Chuck and pray, anyone? The finals was a joke, about 9 total turnovers; the fumble bug really raised it's ugly head. What a mess. Anyway, just wondering if any of you saw it.

Madden Nation is a joke LOL. Everyone of those guys run back wards with there QB's every play and than chuck it down field without ever getting there QB's shoulders squared up to make an accurate pass. Madden is a complete failure in the game of Football.

Disgusting is simply getting so wrapped up in a game that it takes over your life, whether Madden or APF. Even if APF were perfect I just don't get it. I need time to, you know, eat, and have s*x. Occasionally I have to go to work and pay for food.
Honestly, even with kids, with no job and nothing to do, I don't get it. Perhaps I'm just old, but I don't get it. If you were writing code or developing ideas I could perhaps understand such an obsession because I could possibly understand some type of future in the interest...but playing? All you're going to get out of playing 70 hours a week as a kid is some more acne, a pudgy *** body, arthritic fingers and hands. You won't even notice your balls drop or your voice change. What fun is that??

It's not even the kids fault, it's the parents. When I was a kid I wanted to play Atari and Commodore 64 all day long. I could play for a little while but eventually my parents would kick my butt outside to go get some sun. Nowdays it seems like some parents just want the little a**holes out of their hair and so they let them play 10 hours a day.
It's because I went outside with my fellow compadres, my fellow classmates, my peers, that I've developed the sparkling personality you see before you. Without those experiences fighting and throwing rocks at each other you wouldn't be blessed with the sharp intelligence and amazing people skills you see before you.
Oh wait. Nevermind.

Madden Nation is whack for two reasons:
1. The players are incredibly immature. They define poor sportsmanship.
2. The very game they are playing is a disgrace.
Having said that, people who rag on these guys for playing so long or possibly not having jobs should remember that they do make money from this stuff. And quite frankly, some of those guys make more than the average 9-5 job would pay. If you win the big show you get $100K. 99.9% of all people will never save that in a lifetime... Just something to consider.

100K not much? I think it depends on who has it. Some folks can literally flip that and get rich. Some people will put it in a CD and let it passively grow until retirement. Some will invest in more riskier ventures and become rich. But most people will simply blow it, and to them 100K wasn't enough. It all depends.
Now, if you know a lot of people with 10x that amount saved, I'd like some addresses so I can come by and make some friends, lol.
However, people might be surprised to know that even those considered rich are really deep in debt and have no real savings. The Personal Finance guide (2007) shows that 67% of all people have zero dollars saved. 67% is a pretty high number so the 33% chance of running into someone with just $1 in the bank is a slim one... and it's getting slimmer everyday.

Um, no I have to agree 100K is not that much.
It's a lot if you have no food and can't eat. It's a lot if you're middle income and have 50K in credit card bills. But as far as money, it isn't a lot. If you look at many middle income american families, add it all up, they spend that much buying lunch (at work), cigarettes, alcohol, and cable tv after a few years, if you include the kids. It isn't much at all. Certainly not enough to retire on, and if you figure they're going to invest it in a 401k or something else, then yes, your investment is "minimal" but secure. If you do nothing more than smoke, that is 400k over something like 30 years. 400k!! Imagine what starbucks is, what lunch is, what alcohol is, what kids are, what everything is. 100k ain't sh*t. Trust me.

But, you just described people who don't know how to save a dime.
If you buy lunch at work everyday, you don't know how to save. If you buy THAT much alcohol, I'd suggest rehab. If you smoke, quit. Matter of fact, don't start. Cable? Stick with basic; most of TV sucks anyway. Kids? You don't have to have them, and you certainly shouldn't if you can't afford them. Contraceptives are plentiful. Starbucks? Just as bad as cigarettes, lol.
Since I started working (and that was many years ago), I've regularly (and purposely) saved between 65%-90% of my income in any given year. I'm proud to say that I belong to the 33%, but I didn't get there by making frivolities a staple. So, 100K (or any amount) is what it is depending on what you do with it. Some people will work it right, but most will be foolish and blow it. I couldn't spend 100K in 15 years unless I really lost my mind and went on a spending spree, but that's because I have my spending priorities under control. Of course, I live in an area that's perhaps one of the cheapest in the whole country so that certainly helps... but not entirely because most people I know don't have a dime.
QBGURU
February 28th, 2008, 08:42 PM
But the point I'm making is that 100K is more than most people will ever save in their entire lifetime and that's just a fact. And if you spend without control, you'll certainly never save anything. Unfortunately, most people have no idea on how to control their spending.

I don't want to turn this into a race thing, but am I the only one who notices that all of the white kids are trying to be super hip-hop all the time? I mean I am a white guy and I make no bones about it. I weak polo shirts and khaki shorts or blue jeans, I listen to a wide variety of music. All of the kids on there have the big baggy shorts and hats turned sideways. There is nothing wrong with that, but to see a bunch of white kids dressing and talking the way they do- just seems kind of fake and hyper-marketed to me.

I seriously doubt there is are a ton of people in your "community" that have a million dollars saved up free and clear. What are you 12 or some ****? Thats possibly the most ignorant post Ive ever read. Lemmie guess... your 12 and have rich parents and are so sheltered you think the neighborhood you live in that is full of 2500+ sq foot homes all built in the last 4 years is the norm.
96% of all Americans will retire financially dependent on the government, family, or charity. (U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services)
Almost one out of every 100 households in the United States will file for bankruptcy.
Americans carry, on average, $5,800 in credit card debt from month to month.
A 1992 Federal Reserve study showed that 43% of U.S. families spent more than they earned. thats almost half....
As of 1995 92% of U.S. family disposable income is spent on paying debts, up from 65% in 1975. [Federal Reserve]
Nearly half of all Americans (46%) have less than $10,000 saved for their retirement. And 39% of Americans are anxious about their ability to achieve their desired retirement lifestyle. [Miles To Go: A Status Report on Americans' Plans for Retirement-Public Agenda, 1997] It can either be the golden years or the golden arches.
And those were when the economy was booming. Now we are headed to a disaster it looks like.

LSUTIGERSPHXSUNS is young so go easy on him. My wife is a nurse, I am a grad student. Our combined income is about $80,000 a year and $100,000 would be a LOT of money. You do not realize until you start paying bills how much everything costs, even living solidly within your means (which I think we do). Not to mention with taxes you can cut about 20% off of your paycheck each year at least, which could climb as high as 35-40% if a democratic president is elected. On top of that most employers take off a large % for health insurance as well. It would take us ~8-10 years to save up $100,000.

Republicans tend to impose tax increases that benefit the rich, and Democrats tend to impose tax increases that "hurt" the rich. Households making 100K get affected the most.
Regardless of who comes in, we're in trouble. Our dollar is crap right now. I don't have total faith in any of the candidates, but the last thing I want is a chip off the old Bush, and I'm not supporting any candidate who echoes any of his idiotic ideals that haven't worked for 8 years and wouldn't work in 800 years, lol.
